IPad in-house Application deployment over wireless

I know 4.2 will make it easier to deploy apps over a wireless connection.
I know it is currently possible to deploy iPad apps wirelessly because 3rd parties offer this service to Enterprise users.
I've found some great information about how this is "possible" but nothing on how to actually do it.
Does anyone know where I can start looking to research how to do this?
Your help is very appreciated.

Thank you for the response.
I've already developed the app. I just need to deploy the app to 200+ iPads, and would rather do it wirelessly and without using a 3rd party service.
The areas under developer.apple.com do not support issues pertaining to Enterprise deployment.

  • Image processing over wireless

    Hi,
One of our subsidaries has a setup where continuous video stream is generated from certain application servers processing real time image processing.
The setup goes this way; 3 PC's which run these image processing & are connected to a 3750G switch.
This switch is uplinked to an access point which then carries all these over wireless to the image processing main server.
About two weeks ago, when they tested this ,all 3 PC's had issues running together when operators viewed/worked upon the images on them.
When either one or two of them is turned off, the rest works fine with no disturbance( intermediate stop & start of images ).
Please help with suggestions on what could be the cause. I suspect bandwidth, but since this doesn't cover any WAN links, i doubt that bandwidth is actually the problem.
    Thanks in advance.

It depends. QoS will help if your having congestion on the wired side. WMM QoS will help for over the air. I would look at the switch port and see if you see drops on both the map and rap side. You might just be over utilizing the backhaul. Remember that it is half duplex link so that can be an issue also. I had an install with regular AP's and 3gb video uploads within 30 minutes and the only way to achieve that is only allowing 4-5 clients per AP. the testing you have done seems to show that the max you can do over that link is 2. How much other traffic is using the wireless. Maybe try to isolate those traffic on a separate RAP/MAP pair using AP Groups.

  • Randomly losing network connection over wireless

Shortly after installing the 10.4.5 software update, my G4 iBook with built-in Airport Extreme card has been losing connection with increasing frequency. Built-in Ethernet use is unaffected. I'm calling this problem thrash-and-drop.
    1. When it's losing signal, processor activity goes through the roof. I had Activity Monitor running during a thrash-and-drop. kernel_task CPU consumption goes from under 1% before the event, to over 80% during the thrashing, and back under 1% after the thrashing stops. The activity is so bad the cursor can't be controlled: using the track pad sends the pointer all over the screen or nowhere at all.
    2. This has been observed to occur with two different wireless base stations: A Linksys WRT54G and an older SMC 802.11b router. Either router is within 10 feet of the computer. Only one is running at a time. There are no other base stations in range.
    3. Another iBook G4 (OS 10.3, Airport Extreme card (not built-in)), sitting next to it, shows no change and its wireless behavior is unaffected.
Initially, this seemed more likely to happen when Safari was loading Flash-heavy pages. And after thrashing and dropping a connection, it was able to reconnect after either a reboot or a five minute sleep. Currently, it can't connect to a base station for more than a minute. Most recently, it thrashed and dropped while I was selecting the base station to use. This is true regardless of the application running. In fact, it will thrash-and-drop when there are no user applications running at all, after a fresh reboot.
I've tried the following things to address the problem. None have affected the thrash-and-drop problem. Admittedly, most of this is random:
    1. Back up and delete network preferences in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    2. Turn off IPv6 in System Preferences/Network
    3. Back up and delete network preferences in ~/Library/Preferences (com.apple.NetInfoManager.plist and com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist)
Has anybody else seen this problem? I want to blame it on the 10.4.5 upgrade but I haven't seen anybody else complaining about 10.4.5 doing this to them. If there's something I can do to fix this in a software setting, I'd much prefer that to yet another roadtrip to the Apple store.

    Hi!
I have the same problem of randomly losing network connection over wireless, though mine is hardly related to surfing.
I have an external storage drive in which I use for backup of my stuff, and I access the drive via my modem, using the airport. Of late, I noticed that when copying files from my iBook to the external drive, the connection would suddenly drop before the transfer is completed. This began to occur with increasing frequency, particularly when transferring large files.
I have since abandoned wireless connection, and reverted to my trusty cable. Still, I admit that I'm really curious about the cause of the apparent lack of reliability with my wireless connection. Has it something to do with the airport?

believe me I've tried EVERTHING and my iPad still 'can't scan for wireless networks'. it happened all of a sudden and is really really frustrating. I really don't want to have to drive 40 minutes to the nearest 'genius bar'. I'm about ready to break this thing over my knee. I've even tried the frig trick. it worked for about 30 seconds. and then? nothing. any non sarcastic suggestions?

  • Understanding low compliance numbers for an application deployment

We created a deployment of a driver package to a group of known machines that need the update. After 3 weeks, the required deployment is sitting at only 40.7% compliance. Many of the machines may be on intermittently, so we are not surprised the number is
not 100%, but it does seem rather low. However, the real issue is the summarization of the deployment.
The deployment information in the Monitoring workspace seems to be incomplete. The pie chart shows a big red swatch of over 50% in error, but when looking at the error tab, only 9 machines have information. As a matter of fact, in the breakdown only 131
of the 275 machines in the collection are accounted for. When looking at the collection, 14 machines show as inactive, so that does not account for the large gap.
EDIT: I ran the report Application deployment type compliance, and it says success is 228 machines, in stark contrast to what I see in deployment monitoring.
How can I find out what is really going on with this deployment?

you should look at the logs on the client for unknown machines what are they doing like reeving policies or what went wrong.without logs, would be difficult to predict what went wrong.

It seems that from the exception message that there is an issue loading or locating the EJB local home interface, however I am not exactly sure what is going as I can't find any additional information on this issue in the NW logs.  I have a previous ear that will deploy.  This earlier ear file only contains EJB remote interfaces.  In the newer ear I have implemented and added the EJB local interface and believe that I have the correct configurations, since the NW IDE doesn't show any errors and is able to generate the EJB archieves and the deployment EAR.
Any assistance or help would be greatly appreciated as I have hit a wall on this.
    Thanks

  • Application deployment using SDM or NWDI

    Hello guys,
I'm working on a web dynpro + web services application. It's was developed to work with
SAP Portal, and MDM 5.5 SP06.
But we have a problem here. As you people know, we have two forms of deployment of the application to a portal: SDM and NWDI.
Of course, for security reasons, the company has forbidden the access to the SDM password, so, we are unable to deploy the EAR file directly to the portal server.
We're then working with NWDI deployment, (create activity then activate). But we are getting alot of trouble here.
The developers are creating alot of actitivties to test the application, i mean, everytime they need to test anything, they create a "test" actitivty then activate it to the development portal.
I'm really concerned about those activities, because i wonder if they might mess up with the NWDI and compromise the future of the project.
Then again, the deployment over this method (test activities) almost never work. The developers complains alot because they can't find the deployment logs, and the deploy just don't work. Otherwise, the SDM deploy works everytime on their own portals installed on their notebooks.
So, there is my question: There is anyway to find a document, best pratice or anything to show to the company, that the SDM deploy is recommended or anything by SAP?
There is anyway to show them that the develpoers NEED to test (deploy) the application via SDM?
I mean, i need something more than just the opinion of the developers or my opinion, i need a document or something.
Thanks people, sorry for my bad english!

This thread discuees abuout NWDI and SDM and it might helpful:

    Hi,
So I've setup the printer over wireless successfully, I can print from my laptop and iPad, and the print test works/gives me an IP.
However, every time I try to scan it initializes and fails after starting. I can scan over USB, but not wireless. This includes the diagnistic ulitility (green lights until it tries to scan and fails).
Any ideas on how to get this working?
    Thanks!

Did you ever get an answer to this?  I have the same problem ...

  • Videoconference H.323 over Wireless

    Hi everyone
We are looking at the possible creation of a "video only" network for the transport of our clients H.323 videoconferencing traffic throughout our community. Does anyone have any experience transporting H.323 video over wireless networks? Any success?
Specifically we would like to create a central hub site located in the city which all the edge videoconferencing units connect to. We would put an Aironet 1200 centrally located and 1200's at each client site. The radius around the hub is about 5km. All buildings are line of sight. One client is at the 5km mark and will be the main jump point to the surrounding communities where they already have all the IP based videoconferencing systems sitting on their WAN.
I am not sure if the 1200 with the 5Ghz modules are capable of this distance at a reasonable speed? And have not been able to find someone that had tried H.323 video over a half duplex link? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ken

We have obtained exceptional video and audio performance with a H.323 Video Conference solution using two Polycom Veiwstations at 768Kbps over an 802.11b (11Mbps) network using 350's, however the key to this type of installation is very high signal to noise and narrow beam point to point links (in areas with lots of public traffic).
The project was for a video conference link between a remand facility and a local courthouse. They found that the costs of transporting prisoners between the remand center and courthouse and the waiting times were far more costly than the implementation of a videoconference facility to do simple remand hearings.
The Courthouse and Remand Center are aproximately 8km distance but have no direct line of sight, so we encorporated a central repeater site. Initially this central site was equiped with an Omni 180deg 15dBi antenna and a 350 series bridge, the two remote sites were equiped with 13dBi 30deg yagi antennas directed towards the central site. We had signal levels of between 13-18 dB signal to noise but found that the performance was not adequate to carry video traffic at sustained speeds. Since the wireless network is half duplex the addition of the repeater site makes the end to end network act like a 'quarter duplex' as it were. (two seperate legs each having to wait for the other to finish before communicating).
Before we were sucessful we tried a number of senarios, including the placement of a video bridge at the central location which enhance the store and forward capability of the video and audio data above that of the 350's data buffers at the cost of a bit of latency. In the end we needed to add a second bridge, to separate the two legs with non-overlapping channels, in the central site and replacing the Omni with two Yagi on the two seperate bridges (the bridges linked via 10Mbps switch) just to get the system up and running by the deadline. A lot of our greif we later determind was due to other wireless networks in the vacinity (keep an eye on carrier tests at all locations durring the installation, and use narrower beam antenna's where aplicable) this coupled with the 'quarter duplex' senario greatly hampered the situation.
In hind site we would definately use as narrow a beam width high gain antenna as possible, like a parabolic dish to point at the central site, eliminating much of the sorounding noise. and try and keep the S/N as high as possible as well.
-We suggest using a well grounded nema enclosure mounted as close to the antenna as possible to eliminate loss on coaxial cabling.
-Pay the extra money for higher quality coax, coax can add as much as 20dB/100ft. attenuation depending on the quality of cable.
-the use of signal splitter/combiners with multiple narrow beam high gain antenna's and amplifiers to increase your power output and receive gain (taking note of maximum ERP allowances in your area of course ;) instead of an omni or sector antenna. This will reduce interference from other radio networks in the vacinity.
These precautions hold true for any installation but considerably so for Full Duplex Constant Bit Rate applications being used over a half duplex system like Video Conferencing which requires low and stable latency.
Feel free to contact me with particular questions in regards to your project.

  • File transfer EXTREMELY slow over wireless connection

    Hi there,
I have recently been transfering some files from my TiVo to my iMac via a wireless connection. I don't know if the files are going through my router first, and then coming to my iMac or what, but the transfer rate is really slow; about 50 - 100 KBps. That's Bytes, not bits. I know that 802.11g is 54 mbps, which translates to about 7 MBps, but I'm getting about 1/70th that speed.
I recently moved my computer to a part of my house that has better wireless reception. I have an AirPort extreme card that is 802.11g compatible, an 802.11g Linksys wireless router, and a D-Link 802.11g wireless USB adapter hooked up to my TiVo. 2 dashboard widgets that I have tell me that the connection strength to my iMac is excellent (>75%), and that the speed is full (54 mbps). My iMac discovered the TiVo with the "Bonjour" technology built into Mac OS X. It doesn't make any sense to me. Even if the files are going through the router, everything is operating at 7 MBps, so why am i getting 50-100 MBps? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Trevor

    Here's what I did:
I moved my computer to a place where I could connect to my wireless router through an ethernet cable. I tried to transfer files from the TiVo again using the same application, and the download speed was no faster. I tried having both Airport and Ethernet on, and it was slower. I tried just Airport, and it was no faster than before. So I found a new way to download the shows using Safari and Bonjour. I tried, and it was downloading at (according to the downloads window)... 0B/s. I thought "Great". I can't even download it at all this way. So in desparation, I moved my computer right next to the USB device that the signal is coming from, and I get the same download speeds using the application. I try with Safari, and this time it actually starts downloading faster than 0B/s. The top speed I've seen it at is what it's hovering at right now: 129 KB/s. Now here comes the interesting part:
My internet connection (loading webpages with Safari) was lightning quick everywhere my computer was. That indicates that the issue is with the USB device on the TiVo, and not my router or mac. I looked for an ethernet pot in the back of my TiVo, but I could not find one. I found a phone jack (for connecting to the TiVo service via the phone), and my iMac has a phone jack too, but then I realized that the application I was using and Safari needed to use either the Ethernet port, or AirPort, so that wouldn't have worked. I guess that the TiVo cannot process and export the info at faster than 100-150 KBps. Oh well.

My original ipad has been syncing for over 12 hous, is this right?

If it was charging from zero that sounds about right. It takes 5-6 hours to totally charge.
