IPad in recovery mode requires update?

About 3 weeks ago, some "friends" of mine put a lock on my iPad without telling me what it was. After several failed attempts, my iPad now displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. I've never backed it up to a computer, because my computer has been broken since before I got my iPad. I've been at a friend's house this weekend, so I'm trying to fix my iPad. I put it into recovery mode like you're supposed to, but when I click on Restore, it says I need to update the software on my iPad in order to restore it. I've downloaded the update 4 or 5 times, and every time it gets finished, it pulls my iPad out of recovery mode and says I need to enter my password into the iPad in order to connect it to iTunes and install the update. Does anybody know how I can get around this? I can't find anybody with this same situation. Also, if worst comes to worst, will Apple be able to do anything with it? I don't care if they charge me or not- I'm sending my "friends" who did this the bill.

Something went wrong with the update and you are in Recovery Mode.
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

  • IPAD ON RECOVERY MODE AFTER UPDATING TO IOS 7.1.1

hey guys...while i was updating my ipad to the newest version of ios it suddenly stopped and went to recovery mode....i connected to itunes and tried to recover it...but due to my slow internet connection it was unsucessfull...i just want to know wheater erasing the contents on my ipad from FIND MY IPAD works or not....please help me

If your iPad is stuck in recovery mode, DO THIS: (ON Screen USB pointing to a CD with a Music Note).
    1. Make sure your iTunes is up to data, if not re-download itunes.
    2. after re-installing ITUNES, plug your ipad via USB into your computer. ITUNES will automatically pick it up and a pop up box will probally say that your iPad stuck in recovery mode would you like to restore?
    3. Click the restore tab.
Note - If ITUNES if out of date, this will not work.
Note - Do not do this over WIFI
Note - Do not interrupt the restore
Note - If you did not make a previous back up, your IPAD will restore back to the factroy settings.
All this happened to me, fortunately I made a back up. I hope this helps.

  • My iPad entered Recovery Mode after updating to iOS 7.0.2

Today I received the push notification of the iOS update (7.0.2), after installing and rebooting the itunes icon came up. So I connect my iPad to my itunes and it says I have to recover back to factory settings!

maybe all of you ppl didnt see my first post. so ill post it again and i dont care if its considered "smug". the only sure way to fix a device in recovery mode (itunes logo on device) is for u to restore it using the latest version of itunes on ur pc. if u tried to update and it put it into recovery mode the leading cause of this is that something went wrong with YOUR internet connection, computer, or connection to device during process. all of these are not apple's fault. im sure if they werent busy fixing real bugs in there system they would apologize for the giant update that you just tried to install on your incredibly complicated device failed because something on your end couldnt handle it.
disable ur overbearing antivirus software temporarily
redownload itunes, dont uninstall, just redownload
restore your device and try not to use a crappy internet connection or a crappy over used or third party cord
this WILL erase your device. if u lose a lot of info because of this, maybe next time use one of apple's 2 different ways to back up your content on a regular basis as suggested by pretty much every apple thing out there. its there for a reason. not to just look pretty and confuse u.

  • Updating software came up with error now asking to connect to iTunes but when i do says ipad in recovery mode and must restore the ipad before connecting to iTunes ?

I was updating my daughters ipad last night to the latest operting system, when finished it came up with an error message, her ipad then went blank and came up with the picture to connect to itunes. But when I connect to itunes it comes up with the error message "itunes has detected an ipad in recovery mode. You must restore this ipad before it can be used with itunes" - can someone help with how I can do this

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

While downloading software update for Itunes, got message saying detecting Ipad in recovery mode and telling us to restore Ipad to original settings, which we don't want to do.  Also cannot turn on Ipad; shows Itunes symbol with connector.  Help!

No promises but a System Reset is worth trying:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide.  Pay special attention to page 162.  Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad
Finally, the User Guide can be downloaded at no charge via iBooks and a less comprehensive version of the Guide is included as a Safari bookmark.

  • Ios 8.0.2 update failed and forced iPad into recovery mode.

I attempted to download and install the 8.0.2 update to my iPad without using iTunes.  At some point during the install, it failed and sent my iPad into recovery mode asking to be plugged into iTunes.  I have pugged into iTunes and attempted numerous times to restore the device to factory settings.  iTunes will spend a couple hours downloading the update and then fail to install it.  One time I got an error code that said "The iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occured (3014)".
My iPad's data is now lost and I can't get it out of it's locked up condition.  It's become a very expensive paper weight.  Yes, I 'm outside of warranty.  But my device's hardware was working perfectly before I tried to install their new software.  Does Apple do anything to help?

    Hi baleslie,
Thanks for giving the details of the error you are getting.  That would frustate me too.
Recovery from the error "3014" is discussed in this article
Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
It primarily sounds like an issue contacting the update server. Please check it out.
    Take care,
    Nubz

    Hi Everyone,
my Ipad 2 is stuck in recovery mode after updating to the latest IOS 5. Tried to restore, it comes up with unknown error -1.
Ive tried all that I can including the tips given in the apple forums and internet. Please help.

    Hello soccerlime,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The error code "9006" in iTunes when updating or restoring your device indicates that access to the iTunes update servers is being blocked.  Please take a look at the information below to help resolve this error.
    Check your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    Take care,
