Ipad not found in Finder on iMac

I recently purchased a Nikon camera and installed the software that came with it.  I mistakenly made the application the default for photos.  When I connect my iPad to my iMac, that software automatically opened up.  I was unable to figure out how to turn off the default for this program so I just uninstalled it.  Now, when I connect my iPad, or other devices to my mac, it does not show up in the Finder under devises.  How do I correct this?

The iPad won't show up in the Finder.  It will show up in a couple of other places, i.e. iTunes and Image Capture.
Here's how you would have solved your problem with the Nikon app:
With the iPad connected via USB execute the app Image Capture. Select the iPad under Devices on the left.  At the bottom of the left sidebar is a box that says:  "Connecting this iPad opens:".  Use the dropdown box to select the app you wish to run when the iPad is connected.  You can also select "No application".

  • Applications Volume not found in Finder (Mac owner for 3 weeks)

Hi, I goofed today. I had an error in my Verify Disk (Below), so I thought I would boot from my OSX CDs, and fix it in Repair Disk. I ended up actually going through a new installation, choosing the non erase option. (I did not know how to boot from CDs)
However, the install would not complete. I booted from the Backup Drive and that worked well and copied the backup to my Mac HD. (Using Carbon Copy Cloner on a LaCie FireWire Drive)
All seems well except in Finder, when I select Applications, it says Volume not found. However, when I choose Applications from my Macintosh HD Volume, the Applications are there and work fine. Documents, Photos Music is all accessible from Finder left side Icons.
What do I need to do to get my system back to normal?
For future reference, how do I fix the initial problem, and how do I boot from the OS CDs
    Thanks for your help

Actually, it sounds like you have some sort of an alias problem. Just exactly where in Finder are you getting the error? Is it the Sidebar? If so, drag the Applications folder out of the Sidebar, it will go "poof"--then just drag the folder from MacHD into the Sidebar.

  • Says ipad not found

purchased and ipad mini and when I goto sync songs to it from my library,it says ipad not found

    Catnja wrote:

I have no clue who "they" are and I don't know why "they" told you to do that.  It's wrong, wrong, wrong.
Put things back the way that they were.  Then, connect the iPad via cable and follow the directions here.  (Look for setup instructions.)  Hopefully things aren't too messed up.
    Some background...
First, the computer's iTunes will know that this is a second device.  It uses the serial number but it's probably to your advantage to name the iPad so that you know the difference.  You configure the sync characteristics for this second iPad in the same manner that you configured the first iPad.  Second, the computer's iTunes library can contain apps, music, movies, etc. from two (or more) separate Apple IDs BUT it's advisable to keep track (keep reading).  Third, an iPad can contain apps, music, movies, etc. from two (or more) separate Apple IDs.  The only caution is if an iPad has apps from more than one ID; in that instance, the user must have the ID name and password to download updates.

  • Pages from iMac synced to iPad not found by iPhone 4

Seems odd that the doc I created on my iMac can not be seen with my iPhone 4. The doc was "added" from my hard drive to Pages in iTunes with my iPad running OS8 in Apps tab. The iPad was Synced from my desktop. On the iPad>Settings>iCloud>Backup I selected "backup now". I used my iPhone 4, 7.1.2 selected Pages and could not find the doc–on either the iPad OR the iPhone. Am i missing something?

    Hi minnehaha,
It is not quite clear how you are attempting to to the transfer of your document from iPhone to iPad, but this article should give you some help in getting this resolved -

  • Calendar details in iPad not found

Hello. My calendar details in my iPad from 21 April and previous dates could not be found anymore. Meanwhile, these entries still exist in my MacBookPro. I am afraid that synching would also remove the entries in my Mac. What will I do?

  • USB drives not found after erasing them: iMac.

I had a couple of USB drives that showed empty but had almost zero capacity. I erased them via Utilities. Fine. (didn’t get to the part about emptying Trash….doh.
Now my iMac does not show the drives in Finder (although I get a reminder to eject msg when I remove it).
The drive is recognized on my Macbook.
So now I can’t use my memory sticks in my iMac.
How can I get the iMac to recognise the sticks?

Finder preferences not shown, but see attached. The stick is seen in finder and is mounted, but not in Devices.

  • IPhoto albums not found in Finder window

I have all my photos well organized in iPhoto, in albums and folders - all labelled exactly what they are. However if I go into the iPhoto Library via a Finder window all I get are numbers which mean nothing to me. My titles don't show at all and I've no idea how to quickly find the image I want.
Incidentally, when I'm in iPhoto the titles do show in the information panel.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks

    Hi Dijw,
iPhoto 5 now stores the Album information in a data xml file. The Albums folder within the iPhoto Library folder is no longer used. At some point, usually after a rebuild, you will no longer have that folder in the Finder.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
    Do this for each album.
    Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.
One important thing to know is you can set up a graphic program to be an external editor (when you double click an image in the library} such as PhotoShop or PS Elements. You set up that within iPhoto Preferences. Just make sure you save the image flattened and with the same name. The edits will then be relected in iPhoto when you hit "save".
I have just found this useful piece of info at Macoshints.com
"Since Apple developed its "digital hub", with iLife and now iWork, I have wanted to have a system-wide panel that would let me choose pictures from my iPhoto library without having to open the application.
For example, if I want to add a picture to a TextEdit RTFD document, I had to launch iPhoto, chose the picture, and drag it to the document. Waiting for iPhoto to launch can be long if you have a lot of photos.
But there is a way to get around this, using an Automator action.
    1. Open Automator, and click iPhoto.
    2. From the list of actions, select Ask for Photos, and drag it to the right-hand pane.
    3. Save this as a plug-in, and select Script Menu (the script menu that displays in the menu bar) so it is accessible anywhere. (If this menu is not visible, launch the AppleScript Utility in /Applications/Applescript, and check 'Show Script Menu in menu bar.')
Next time you need a picture from your iPhoto library, select this action from the AppleScript menu, and you'll have a media browser that lets you do so without opening iPhoto. "

Now for the titles issue...titles you give images in iPhoto stay within iPhoto. The original file name always remains the same in the Finder.
Now for finding the photos in the Finder.
iPhoto 6 Library folder in the Finder
As you can see the structure is now related to rolls. Rolls are created for each folder you import and each import session from a camera.
It is very easy to change the names of film rolls within iPhoto to make them easier to find images within. Open the info panel in iPhoto by clicking on the "i" icon. Once it is opened, click on the roll title in the viewing window.
Click on the word "title" in the info pane and type in your new title. I like to use a date and text format such as 12/25/05 Christmas at Mom's, 1/05/06 my birthday, etc. Once the roll names are changed within iPhoto, they are also changed within the Finder, making it easy to locate an image.
When importing from a camera, make sure you name the roll with a date and text before the import.

  • Item Not Found in Finder

I just noticed today (not after any particular change or update to the OS) a large question mark to the right of the spotlight search in the finder window.  Clicking on the question mark yields "The item can't be found" as a dialog.
Any idea what this might be, or how to remove it?
    Thanks!

The icon was linked to an application that has been removed or updated. You can delete it with the right mouse button, you will see a dropdown list with the delete option.

  • Self-created invisible system file not found via Finder's Find command

I need to see what is being created on my hard disk. To achieve that, I create a test file, call it .new in TextEdit, remove the hidden .rtf extension, and place it in one of the folders in /Library/Application Support. Then, I use Finders Find command, and ask to search This Mac, Created date: today, System files are included, File visibility Visible or Invisible, leaving the input field (for file contents or name) blank. The newly created file isn't found. I type its name into the input field, with the same result. I change its name to .new.plist . Same result. Suspecting that "System files" acutally means system files and doesn't include the Library on the top level, I place that same item in /System/Library/PodcastProducer. Same result.
Seriously, this is entirely incomprehensible. The Find command obviously doesn't do what it says it does. Could anyone tell me how to get it to, or name some alternative?
    Thanks a lot.

Actually you CAN get ressults for .whatever files and folders. I created a saved search for my home folder with the criterion of "File visibility::Invisible Items" and then "None of the following are true::Name contains" DS_Store, Icon or localized. The result is a list of 65 invisible items including things such as the files /Users/francine/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences.0017f20dca84.plis t (a dot file), /Users/francine/Library/Preferences/com.freeverse.5012 (something with the invisible flag set), the dot folder /Users/francine/.fontconfig, and many others of all of these types. I thought it was interesting that lots of them were inside the ~/Library folder, even though I did NOT specify including system files.
I don't know why the original poster can't get Spotlight, using the the Command-f method, to display dot files. When I was setting my own invisible items search up I did manage to crash the Finder once, so it may be that the query for invisible items is buggy. Here's the Raw Query:
    (true) && (((kMDItemFSInvisible = 1) && (!((kMDItemDisplayName = "\DS_Store"cd) || (kMDItemDisplayName = "\Icon"cd) || (kMDItemDisplayName = "\localized"cd)))))
If you go to a folder, do Command-f, then change from the default "Kind" to "Raw Query" and paste the above in as the query, you ought to get all the invisible files and folders, except the .DS_Store, Icon and localized files (of which there are likely hundreds of 'em in your home folder).

  • External Hard Drive Not Found in Finder

I have an Oxford 120gb external hard drive that I am using with my PPC iMac G5. It is connected via firewire. My computer is not showing the drive on my desktop like it normally does. I have tried using a different firewire cord, using a different firewire port, etc. After booting up the drive, System Profiler indicates that the drive is there. It gives me all the information about the drive. What could be causing this, and are there any possible solutions? It's freaking me out, because I haven't backed up our digital photos in probably 5 months or so! Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
PS - I've tried restarting the drive and the computer/connectng the cord in every combination I can think of, still to no avail!

The good news is that I think I'm narrowing down what my problem is. The bad news is that I've got a huge video project due next Sunday and I'm not able to transfer video from my Canon GL2 video camera to my computer!
I am now putting it together that neither firewire port is working. The reason I say this is because I've tried my external HD in both ports, using two different firewire cords. AND I have tried capturing video to my computer using two different video cameras, and on both firewire ports.
I've trashed the old quicktime receipts and installed the newest version. I'm on OSX 10.4.9. I've also done the "turn everything off, unplug everything, drink a guinness (or two), sit for 30 minutes, plug it back in, plug the power cord back in while simultaneously holding down the power button, then hitting the power button". Still nothing but the good old "maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec!"
Here's what is odd. After trying the Guinness method once, it worked. So I was finally able to start capturing video. While capturing, I hit a break in the sequence, and this somehow kicked me back off the firewire port.
My external drive is showing up in Disk Utility, and will now usually show up in system profiler, but only in profiler if the camera is not also plugged in the firewire.
ALL that to say, even if this is something that can be fixed by Mac's repair program, I'm still screwed on my project. Any other ways I could at least get the video from my GL2 onto my computer? In crisis mode...
Also, are there any details available online on how to open up an iMac to reset the SMU? Or perhaps a PRAM reset? I've never "been inside", but am more than willing to try if I had a proper walkthrough on how to do it (what to look for, etc.). I know the link in the response above talks about how to do it from outside of the Mac, but I've also heard talk of opening the case and looking for the logic board...

I've got a 1TB Toshiba hard-drive. When I connect it to my laptop, I can't find it in Finder or on the Desktop. I can find it in Disk Utility though, and it lights up and sounds like normal (that really really soft whirrring sound)
Any ideas what is happening? And how I can fix it?
I've got a lot on it that I don't want to lose...
    Cheers!

Your Finder Preferences may need to be modified.
Was this HDD used with your Mac previously or with a PC?  If the latter, then the format needs to be addressed.  If you reformat it for Mac or a common format for both Mac and PC, all user data will be erased.  You may have to copy the data to another HDD or use an application such as Paragon:
