IPhone 3GS Shuts Down for No Reason...

Hopefully someone can offer some insight. Recently my iPhone 3GS will shut completely off when I am streaming Pandora. I can start streaming on a full 100% charge and 30 minutes later the phone complete shuts off. When I turn it back on, it still shows an 80% charge on the phone. Not sure why it's shutting down like this. It never used to do that, and I could understand if the battery were dead, but it's not.
When this happens I have to either restart the phone all over, or if I plug it in it will restart automatically. This does not occur when the phone is plugged in and charging, only if it is off charge.
The battery does not seem to drain particularly quickly or anything. It just can't stream for more than about 20-45 minutes at a time. I can browse the web for an hour or more on it and it does not do this.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Have you found anything out with this problem? I too have had this happen to myself and I restored my phone to factory settings and it is still doing it. please if you found anythig out let me know.
Best Regards,

  • My iphone 3g shuts down for no reason

I upgraded my iphone to OS 3.o 2 weeks ago and now it started shutting down with no reason. Any ideas??
    thank you

    Determine the following:
    - If your Battery life approximate? Charge through Wall Charger for ATLEAST 2-3 hours then monitor it.
    - Is there an application that you are running while this occurs? If it's a third party application, Delete it then Reinstall it.
    - During calls: are you sure it shuts down? Maybe unresponsive at Proximity Sensor or a Leather case, a smudge, can be blocking the sensor.
    - Has any liquid been in contact with the iPhone?
    - Do a Restore as New, it could be that your OS3.0 download was corrupted, redownload the update and install it again on your iPhone making sure you have created a Backup of your contents - once the Download and Update has been completed you will be able to Restore from a Backup as the Backups do not have firmware on them.
    Goodluck.

  • Iphone 3G shuts down for no reason

my 1 year old white iphone 3G has been shutting for no reason when the battery level is less than a quarter. and it takes a full 1-2 minute to restart when i force shut it by pressing the home and sleep/wake buttons together. the main problem comes when it restarts, half the battery will be used up to restart it.
can anyone resolve it ? or will apple resolve it ???

  • My iPhone 4S shuts down for no reason.

I have a iPhone 4S that I bought in April. No problem with it until today. For no reason it shut down. I know how to re-boot it but why does it continue to do this? It has happened several times this morning. Is this a software problem?

There is no such thing as a "hard reset".
If basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide fails to resolve the issue, then take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • HELP!! My iPhone 3G shut down for no reason!

I got my iPhone 3G last thursday and there were no problems at all, then I went to Buffalo, NY on saturday and once I was in the Buffalo I was watching a movie I had uploaded into it, and suddenly my iPhone shuts down and reboots. I thought nothing of it, so I started watching my movie again, and again it shut off and rebooted. So I left my iPhone on the Home Screen without touching it, and yet again it shut off and rebooted, it did that about 5 times. When I returned to Canada that night it has never happened since. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be a hardware problem? I would greatly appreciate someones help!

its a software problem... i had the same about 3 months ago... i found out that it was a song from limewire that was doing it... i figured it out by making it in itunes so you could see the file size and the one song was 12mb so i knew it was a virus.. since deleting i have never had a problem since. Try also a restore

  • My itunes account shuts down for no reason.  It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and itunes.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a syste restore on my computer, firewall checked and virus scan done.  Ideas??

My itunes account on windows xp shuts down for no reason.  If even try to delete something from my library it shuts down.   It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and I can't connect to the store.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a system restore on my computer, firewall has been checked, itunes is ok on firewall and virus scan done.  Ideas??

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

  • My iPhone 4S will shut down for no reason

My iPhone 4S will shut down for no reason with plenty of battery life. Why does this happen?

    Hi 123Guardian,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The following article will provide some troubleshooting steps for your iPhone.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that does not resolve the issue, refer to page 150 in the iPhone User Guide to Reset All Settings:
iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
The final troubleshooting step would be to restore your device:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition. Before restoring:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
    Back up your device.
Transfer and sync content to your computer.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Iphone 3gs shuts down & reboots on its own.

The 2 yr old iphone 3gs shuts down on its own and the silver apple icon pops up ~ the phone boots itself up. This has been happening more frequently, since Dec 2010. I could be on the internet, or using any app and it does this. A couple times I had to simutaneously hold down the power and home buttons to turn on the phone, and, or, unfreeze the phone. I always charge my phone, and regularly sync it with the latest upgrade(s). What is going on?

I had this, but I have now rectified the issue. It's an app?
I de-selected all my apps and just left the standard ones on.
I did a full restore from backup but did not sync any apps.
Problem solved, no more dropped calls. No more apple logo for no reason.
I am slowly re-adding my apps, 1 or 2 at a time, I have over 150 so it may take a while but so far I have reloaded about 10 of my most used ones and still everything fine. I will find the one that caused the problem eventually!!
Happy bunny again though, as I have a phone that can actually make a call for more than 5 minutes!!

  • My ipod touch shut down for no reason. now when i try to turn it on again, it goes to the apple icon to the spinning wheel, then it repeats. HELP!!!!

My ipod touch shut down for no reason. now when i try to turn it on again, it goes to the apple icon to the spinning wheel, then it repeats.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone 3GS shutting down randomly...

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone has experienced an issue where an iPhone 3GS shuts down randomly. The issue started tonight just a few minutes ago, the only thing I installed yesterday was iOS 5.0.1. Personally, I don't know what has happened, I do know that my brother has downloaded some songs using the Download Lite App from the App Store. Curiously the issue started occuring after the downloaded one song using that app, but other than that I can't find a problem indicator.

I also having the same issue with my iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.0.1, except most the day went by okay for me until near the end of the day. Perhaps I don't use my iPhone as frequently as you guys are but when I really on to something on it, it just shuts down like a Window virus. (hehe)

  • MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason- help!

MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason.
My MBP has been working fine, until I updated to 10.5. Originally this problem started in Bootcamp running XP, but has now done this once in OS X, just a while ago. There seems to be no difference- even when the psu is plugged in. Just now when it did this again, I pressed the power key and the led on the front blinked really fast, then there was a tone- like it was doing a firmware update (but I did the firmware update months ago!).
I've done a power reset- taking out the battery and holding the power key down for 20 seconds, which seems to have helped, but then again this problem seems to be rather sporadic, and one can never tell when it is going to happen next.
Oh yes, there is a mechanical 'click' that sounds when it does it- like a relay click. Is there a relay power related IC on the motherboard?
Any clues anyone? (I'm sending this exact letter to Apple as well)
    Tom

It's an interesting thread, but I seem to have the problem even when the cord is plugged in. I did have battery problems when I first got this MBP, but they seemed to settle down once I used the computer a bit more. FWIW, I have now got them mostly while using Bootcamp. BC beta 1.3 was really stable and good. It wasn't until I bought Leopard that this problem started. And again, it's only happened 3 or 4 times now.
I'll just have to keep saving. I'm sure Apple will wise up to this sooner or later. (Incidently, I haven't been able to send anything to Apple as I can't find their direct contact addie. Can someone 'remind' me? Thanks!

  • I just downloaded Lion and now my computer just shuts down for no reason. What is its problem?

I just downloaded Lion and now my computer just shuts down for no reason. What is its problem?

I recently made the same mistake.  The thing to do is download the new Quicken Essentials for MAC.  After you install the new version follow the instructions on how to transfer your old files.  There is a way, it just takes a little time and, if I remember correctly, it takes the info from your quicken backup files. Hopefully you had auto back up on and your files are intact.  I didn't and reconstruction was a bear but entirely possible.  The new Quicken is quite different but seems to work quite well.  Good luck.

  • HP Probook 4710s shuts down for no reason!

    Hello everyone,
I own an HP Probook 4710s laptop for about 3 months now.
Recently I played Call Of Duty MW2 and after a while of playing it just shut down for no reason.
I played it before on my laptop but it didn`t shut down.
And just recently I played Age Of Empires 3 and it also shut down.
It happened twice with Age Of Empires.
Tho it never happened when I wasn`t playing games I`m still concerned and would appriciate any kind of help or explenation from anyone.
    Thank you.

Check your Event Viewer logs at the time of the shutdown and look for critical errors and events.  It sounds like a heat problem.
