Iphone 3GS software update problem
Hi Everyone,
I plugged my Iphone in to Itunes and was prompted to do a software update. The update failed, and i was prompted to do a Restore.
The restore failed with error (6). The phone is completley dead and only shows Apple logo when plugged in attempting a restore. I have deleted the .ipsw file and downloaded again many times but still the same problem. Also have tried holding down Home and power buttons, it makes a noise fron itunes but nothing happens on the screen. Extremely frustrating! Can anyone shed any light on this issue?
Thanks,
Stew
Maybe you can download the newest version directly and restore again, perhaps theres is something wrong of the your first restore...Anyway,the follwing the address of OS 3.13(the newest version):

IPhone 3Gs - iOS4 update problem, iTunes crashed, iPhone wont update
Hello!
Yesterday, I finally decided to upgrade my iPhone 3Gs to iOS 4 from 3.1.2 after having returned to my relatives house in europe. However, during the update, I got an error from iTunes (I can't remember what it was, it had a red circle with a white X and say something "unknown" had happened) and iTunes crashed. Then when I tried to update again, iTunes told me that the iPhone was in Recovery mode and had to be restored then updated.
Well, I was pretty mad about this because iPhoto failed to copy some of my videos and photos that I did not want to loose, but I went on with it. Almost immediately, the message "Restoring iPhone Software" came up and the iPhone screen changed and the status bar on my Mac Book went to what looks like 95%. On the iPhone it looks as though its around 60%.
It had been like this for four hours, and I decided to call Apple support through skype since I am not at home in the USA, they told me that it can take up to or even more than 10 (ten!!!!) hours for it to restore!
So I left it on over night, its now been 15 hours and the iPhone is still at 60% and on my Mac Book Pro I still get the message "Restoring iPhone Software" and its still at 95%.
I have a 12 hour flight to the US in a few days, and I would like to know if there is a way to fix this. The phone was running 3.1.2 before I decided to upgrade.I managed to fix this by connecting the iPhone to another computer, this time a PC using Windows 7 (because the only mac I have is my MacBook Pro late 2009 edition), and the iPhone restore and update worked in less then 5 min.
Also, it looks like the apple rep was mis-informed as the backup DID SAVE my photos and videos! -
Iphone 3gs software update?
Hi,
According the the apple website to identify which Iphone I have, it states that if the model number is A1303, which it is, then my iphone is a 3gs not just a 3g. It also state on a 3gs phone, if I go to 'settings' then into 'general' I can find 'software update'...but it is not there in my iphone1?
I would like to update my phone to the latest ios, can you please help. I already have an icloud account but cant see how to instal it onto my new iphone "3gs" which has just been given to me from a friend as I have recently lost my original iphone 3gs!?
Help appreciated." It also state on a 3gs phone, if I go to 'settings' then into 'general' I can find 'software update'...but it is not there in my iphone1?""
ONLY if your iphone is runnnignios 5 or later. The software update feature is only available on ios 5 or later.

KocoI will ask our Hosts to remove your screenshot as it has personal info on the top portion... for easy editing, I'll just slice it up
I am somewhat confused by what you write and what the screenshot shows -- " 4S " vs. " iPhone 4 " + iOS version for a " 4 " is correct though -
IPhone 4 Software Update: Problem with Contacts!
I recently updated my iPhone 4 software. Now when I open up my iMessages only the phone number appears at the top of the message like so: +1(781)555-5555. The contact name appears when I receieve a pop-up notification, but not when I actually open the message. And I have all of my contacts with their proper phone numbers. This only happens with select contacts. Any ideas? THANKS!
Wierd... If it's only a few select contacts I would just write down the contact information, delete the contact and recreate it.

IPhone 4 software update problem
I just downloaded a software update for an iPhone4, 6.1.3 I believe, which took forever, NOW, the iPhone is "verifying" with Apple which has been going on for more than 45 minutes. Is this normal? If not, what is the solution? thx
Well, if the download took "forever," I would say you have a poor Internet connection, which is also need to communicate with Apple servers to verify the update. I would give it at least a little more time.

I've only had my 3gs for a month; Itunes 10 is indicating that there is an update for it. When I try to download and update the phone, this takes about 20minutes and when it come near to the end, about the last 15 seconds, i receive
a message with code error 3259 - time out as if my internet was disconnected which is not the case.
I did try either with phone connected to itunes and without but it fail everytime.
what should I do?
Many ThanksI'm having the same problem with the lastest update the connection keeps timing out. I've had it before on these updates bbut usually manage to download on the 3rd or 4th attempt.I think it must be a computer setting but I don't what.Any suggestions gratefully received

i have an activation problem with my iphone 3gs. i updated the software to io6 using itunes but now the phone will not complete activation because it keeps saydin the activation server is not available and to re try later. ive been trying for 6 hours but it still wont activate. if i try using itunes then it sayd no sim inserted when there is one inserted, what can i do?
You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money.. -
I am having difficulty in updating my iphone 3GS software from version 4.1 to version 5.1. I tried using my phone but cannot find the update software button even when I have gone through the right process by tapping SETTING, then GENERAL, yet could not find Update Software button. I mean the update Software button is not seen there.
I tried using itunes, yet no way. Each time I connect my iphone to my laptop itunes software comes up automatically and alerts me that a newer version of software for my iphone is available, It usually gives me the option of Download & Install or Download Only. Whichever of the option I click a message will always appear telling me that the iphone update server could not be contacted, then asking me to make sure that my network settings are correct and active or try again latter. Sometimes, when click on the Update button on my itune software. It will display an error has occured.
I have even tried to Restore iphone from itunes, yet the problem keep repeating itself.
Can anyone help me?Dear Tim,
I saw your message. Below are the problems:
Whenever I connect my iphone 3GS to my PC through a USB. My itunes software comes up automatically.
1. After that a message appears from the itunes that states that 'itunes could not connect to the itunes store, an unknown error cccured (306).
2. After the above, an alert message comes up which states that A new iphone software version 5.1 is availlable for my iphone. It then states would you like to download it and update your iphone now? With the options buttons as Cancel or Download and Update or Download Only. Whenever I clicked on Download and Update or Download Only, the next message that comes up is that The iphone Software Update Server Could not be Contacted and suggest make sure your network setting are correct and active or try again later.
The above is the challenges I am facing now. -
