Iphone 4 built in speaker(s)?

If I play music on my Verizon iPhone, it only seems to be coming out of one of the build in speakers at the bottom of the phone. The headphones put out a stereo signal, but the built in speakers seem to only be one channel. This may be a dumb question, but is this normal?

No problem! Check out the [iPhone user manual|http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iphone_userguide.pdf] as it covers a lot of the basics for new users.

  • HT1349 I can only use speaker on iphone. Built in speaker not working?

My built in speaker on my iphone is not working. I have to use speaker to hear caller

I did!!  I went to Apple store, they ran diagnostics and cleaned it, all okay...got new sim card, AND still had the issue.  I really didn't want to do a total restore as they suggested.  It just so happened that I run the free version of Word with Friends.  I was curious if some of the ads may have reckoned with it.  So...I said to self, "Self, let's just delete the app."  So I listened to self. And VIOLÁ!!! Problem solved!!  Good luck with it...maybe if you run some "FREE" apps that run ads...could just be the issue!!

What should I do? Thanks!

  • Should the iPhone 4S play music through built-in speaker?

I have a new iPhone 4S. I just got it loaded with my music. I noticed that there is no sound through the built-in speakers when playing music. However, with headphones plugged in, I can hear music through them just fine. The mute switch is in the up position. My older iPod Touch would play through the built-in speaker if there was nothing plugged in to the headphone jack. Should the iPhone 4S do the same? If so, how can I get that working? If not, will someone please just tell me that so it doesn't drive me slowly nuts thinking there's a problem with the device?
    TIA!

I took the phone to an Apple store. Come to find out that due to some corrosion on the dock contacts, the phone thought it was in a dock. The tech was unable to repair it, so they had to replace it.
NOTE: I had to backup to the iCloud first, to make sure all my apps and settings, etc wre available to the replacement. Upon restore to the new phone, the following issues surfaced:
    1) none of my original "imported" music restored. Only the music I'd purchased through iTunes. Fortunately, I have it on mt PC backup.
    2) most of my books were "corrupted" upon restore. I tried to work with the Apple tech for days on this issue. Finally, I deleted my bookshelf and re-downloaded it, at which time I was able to sync the books between mt iPad and iPhone.
Watch out, because the Cloud still has reliability and functionality issues.
Anyway, the original issue that made me start this thread has been resolved.

  • HT4528 Sound from the built-in speaker badly cracks and breaks

Hi, I need a help on trying to figure out what's wrong with my iPhone 4..
I've had my iPhone for about a year, without any major issue. But recently I noticed that the sound coming from the built-in speaker cracks and breaks to a point it barely makes any proper sound. The weird thing is that this happens only for alarm, text/phone ringtones, and during calls when I try to use the speaker.
At first I suspected it was the hardware issue, but when I play music it works just fine. I tried restoring the phone, but that didn't fix the problem.
I'm thinking about taking it to Apple store or Verizon, but my Apple warranty seems to have expired and I don't know what Verizon can do to help. I should still have the protection plan through Verizon, but it doesn't cover much.

  • Turn down the volume of built-in speaker before playing music

So I was wondering if there was any way to turn down the volume of the built in speaker prior to playing music/video. I imagine that if I'm REALLY quick and pause the action, I can turn it down, but I'd rather not have to race against time.
The context for this, is the desire to show someone else video on the iPhone (say a National Geographic video podcast) without the audio blasting forth.
    Any ideas?

So you're saying the phone doesn't remember the previous setting you had it at and jumps up or something...?
..or you want to hit play and have it not play so you can adjust the volume first...sorry can't help if that's the case. It kind of doesn't make sense from a UI perspective, when I press play or start a video I want it to play....different strokes for different folks tho

  • Problem with my brand new mp3 player Zen Stone Plus 2GB ( with built in speaker )

    Hi .
I have purchased the following Zen Stone Plus 2GB with built in speaker on 24.06.2008.
From day one, it had a charging problem . Initial charging it'snever go beyond 87%.
After using it for 2 days, at the time of recharging , I found my player won`t get dectected in my PC .
I took the set to the vendor for a checkup . He tried to solve it by resetting , formating etc. But he could only able to to format it's sacrificing its 50% of its allocated space.
My vendor then changed the set with a brand new one, againts that faulty one .
Now the new one worked well for 3 - 4 days , but it is now totally dead .
But the set did not give any indication before it become completely dead.
A few dust particles inside the LCD screen was also observed. I can`t understand how come dust particles can enter inside
a player which is sealed box pack .
Next issue is with the battery which CREATIVE promised of giving a backup of approx 20 hrs of continious playback , which with minimal scuffling and with minimal settings lasted for 0 hrs approx ( 50% less than promised ).
Another thing that i must state is the problem of FM Reception . It is simply terrible . In the same area where my mobile's FM reception is fine , Zen Stone's FM failed to give any reception .
I came to know about Zen Stone Plus from of my friend , who is using Zen Stone Plus GB without any problem for long time.
Pls tell me what to do now, since my player is compleately out of order now , and pls suggest me something regarding the issue of battery backup , FM reception ... etc.
Now i am in a total mess . I just dont know what to do with the set that is few days old .
    Pls help urgently .
Waiting for any valued suggestion .
    Bye ...

  • Ipod Built In Speaker Not Working

I've been using my ipod and everything has been fine up to yesterday when the built in speaker stopped working. I can still get sound using headphones but that's it, it worked the previous night, I then charged my ipod in between and now the internal speaker doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I am assuming that you do not have a Fifth Generation iPod buy you have a Fifth Generation iPod NANO and posted in the wrong area.
Try a Reset (hold down the menu and center buttons for 6 seconds). If that does not work try restoring the Nano in iTunes. If neither works you have a hardware problem with the headphone jack and you need to get it serviced.

  • MacBook Pro with built-in speaker with weird problems

Suddenly after a while my built-in speaker is not working properly, I can hear the sound but it is not clear and clean as before. Now there is a blur sound.

For starters... if you launch PhotoBooth or FaceTime, does the camera work?  If you're trying to use it on a website, many sites access the camera via Flash.  You would need to download and install Flash from Adobe:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
    (select the OS X installer)
If your camera is not working with PhotoBooth or FaceTime, let us know.
