IPhone 4s battery, discharge and USB issues

No iOS upgrade or other change: All of a sudden my 2,5-year-old iPhone 4s starts draining the battery very quickly and will neither charge nor connect to the computer over USB. At one point it pulse-vibrated without much reason. I’ve tried several cables and cleaned the 30-pin contact without effect. Doesn’t appear to be a battery-only problem. What is it? Worth considering a repair? Any advice much appreciated before I toss the unit.

No it doesn't sound like a battery problem does it. Apple doesn't repair 4S phones other than batteries which cost $79 US installed. If it's another problem they'll likely offer you and out of warranty replacement for $199 US. You'll have to ask them for the details on what they'll actually do.

  • IPhone 5 Battery Indicator and Reboot issues

    Hello Apple community forum,
I have an iPhone 5 that I purchased approximately 20 months ago. It has worked flawlessly and been well taken care of. Only until recently, maybe 3 weeks after I updated to IOS update 7.1.1, I have been having a plethora of issues and now the phone is virtual useless. I have not jailbroken it or have had any third party hardware installed. It all started when I plugged in my Apple lightening cable for charging and an error appeared "unsupported charging cable". From there I have experienced the following problems:
Battery indicator stuck while charging at any various percentage or during normal use and standby. Only a reboot will provide current charge status.
    Extremely fast battery drain.
Unexpected reboots at various intervals or while accessing Apps or browsers. Sometimes very frequent. One day had at least 60 reboots. one right after the other.
    Cannot turn on or off
Shuts off when I put it in my pocket.
    BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)
Screen exhibits lines or odd characters shuts down or reboots.
Time and date at different positions post boot.
Log file full of errors. (Panaic.ips bug type 110 | awdd Wireless | ResetCounter bug type 115| TCCService bug type 167 | Log-Aggregated bug type 193)
The update worked great on the phone and it seemed faster and the battery lasted a bit longer than usual. However, now it is a different story. I was able to backup my phone and offload all my photos on its good day. I was reading the support site and following a few of these forums. I follow the soft and hard rest procedures and even restored the phone back to factory default (DFU mode). It does seem to run a bit better in default without many apps on it but it still exhibits all the above issues. I bit the bullet and went to the Apple store to talk to one of there G men. He acted surprised and gave me the Apple trained verbal run around. He ran the diagnostic and stated that my battery did not even register as being in the system. From there he opened the phone, inspected it for damage and re-attached the battery and taped it back down. BTW, they hosed my screen cover. Nothing is ever free. They did offer to replace my battery for $80 but did not feel that would solve this problem. If anyone has had this issue and did have a new battery installed, please let me know how that worked out.
I wonder if this latest update exposes some type of hardware flaw that was previously fixed or just a bug(s) in the software code. Yet, Apple does not seem to acknowledge there is a problem let alone advise to any upcoming fix. It does not seem that Apple really cares about my little bit of business. If anyone has any ideas or experience, please let me know. This is frustrating and owning too much of my time. Thanks Apple!

If tried techniques to get the battery to act right, such as rebooting by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, and those things haven't helped, take the iPhone and iPad to the Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test them to see if there is a hardware fault.  Do that before the warranty runs out so you are covered.

  • IPhone 5 battery life and speaker issues

Hey guys. Not sure if anyone else is having this issue but firstly. The battery life *****. And really *****. I let phone completely drain at least twice a month. Then fully charge it. Not a huge user but data I know eats it. We are talking literally within two hours of not using it and it will be down to 59%. Didn't expect this off a phone like this. iPhone 4S beats it hands down. Considering going back to it tbh.
Speaker issues are terrible. Tried the music on full pause. Then exit. Then test but still nothing. Rang apple they say its not a fault but why would other people be reporting it.
iPad 4 users. Do you have issues with battery life too? And very slow charge and very quick drain. This is a joke. Nearly a Grands worth of kit and you feel like your using a Nokia 3310.
    #annoyed!

  • HT4623 Iphone 5 battery discharging too quicklu

Iphone 5 battery discharging too quickly, even with wifi, bluetooth and location services off. The battery is only lasting about 6 hours.  How can i check what is causing this.  It was lasting about 24 hours before.

Just shared. Turn your brightness To as you can see The page. Turn of icloud if not use it If you just buy this phone. Let the battery totally drain couple of time and fully charge again. It will became great after that.my phone take 2 days to totally drain.awsome. If your location to far away from network transmitter it will became little bit hot at the battery.if you very near to wifi you will feel  your iphone5 it surf like a ferrari + no heat at all.     P/n; dont look at pecentage of your battery. Just take note how many hour until its totally drain.

  • My iphone 3GS battery exploded, and made the whole phone bloated.

My iphone 3GS battery exploded, and made the whole phone bloated.  I contact my local apple support and they said it is a normal case when battery is used for more than one year.  Where else can I can some reasonable explanations and solution from apple about my phone.  My phone cannot be used, and I have lost alot of valuable data and photos.  Can I recover them?  What can I do now?

If you've been using your phone as recommended, you've been syncing your data to your computer frequently, and importing any photos taken by the iPhone to your computer (or using photostream).  If you  havent' been doing this, then you've no one to blame for any data loss and any phone, which can be damaged, dropped, stolen or otherwixe become inoperable was NEVER meant to be a storage device.
As far as your battery is concern, is is NOT normal for the battery to "explode" after a year.  Contact an authorized Apple service provider or Apple itself to see what your replacement options are.

That is its way of telling you to connect it to your computer, and open iTunes (if it doesn't open automatically).

  • IPhone 4S battery discharging Way Too FAST

    Hello,
to my utter disappointment the battery life or better the life of a charge of the iPhoone 4S battery is deplorably short. I have read all the negative comments and I had been forewarned by the salesperson that the this might happen (he works part time for the phone company that sold me the phone and part time freelances setting up iPhones for corporate use. And in his experience battery life varies greatly depending on if the battery was treated correctly at the factory, what version battery it was etc. And in his opinion the quality of the components Apple builds into it's hardware (harddrives, batteries etc.) are not cutting edge at all – as one might expect taken all the hubbub Apple creates around it's products – but cheap run-of-the-mill stuff.)
So, I feel a lot like Apple does not live up to it's self-created reputation and standards of delivering top-notch hard- and software – for a hefty price, that is.
I have disabled as many of the location-based services as possible, only activating them as needed. I have turned off any and all of the auto-update, selfcheck, -connect etc. features. I do not receive emails, I do not Twitter, Facebook or whatever Social Media stuff to save energy. Still, the battery discharges at a ridiculously fast pace. E.g. a reminder message (displaying on the startup screen as soon as I unlock the iPhone – unused all night): 25% of the energy level is being used up by that. A lot of the fancier apps using location based services or GPS apps are depleting the battery within an hour or even less (hiking, biking, jogging appps). So a lot of the much vaunted versatility of the iPhone falls short for me because I cannot use those apps without wasting too much energy.
As I said before, I am very disappointed!

We've been to the Verizon store on Mary Esther cutoff in Ft Walton Beach three times now. The first time they said to make sure no apps were running and eliminate those we didn't need. We did that. The second time we were met by a person who told us no one had that problem and it was Apple. The manager then came over and was very nice, suggesting we try to backup the phone to our laptop, reset the phone to factory, and restore. We've done that three times. We've also tried renaming our router access point twice.
We go today and tell the female rep that we still have the issue. She says no one at Verizon has ever heard of it and there's nothing they can do. I ask if we could get another phone since it was under warranty (April 10 was our anniversary) when we first brought it in, or replace it with the insurance we pay $8.18 per month for. She said no on the warranty, and sure for $169 deductible. She threw it back on Apple. Clearly not happy customers. If I didn't have a year left I'd be swapping providers today.

  • Battery, heat, and ringer issues

I recently purchased the Iphone 4s.. this is my first iphone
I did the update that Apple sent out to help the battery and it seems like it worse then before the update??  My phone has been off the charger for 45 minutes, I sent 1 text message, and had 1 phone call.  The percentage is now at 87.  It the last 2 minutes i have watched it go down 2%?  Is this normal?  Also, the phone gets REALLY hot...
If not, what do I do now??
Also, I keep missing phone calls because I don't hear the phone ring... but the ringer is all the way up..
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

We've got the same issues, the BBM contacts went, now the BB won't charge ... we've tried all ways to get it to charge ... typically it's just over a month old so we can't get a full refund ... we are on here trying to find out what we need to do as we can't obtain a telephone number for BB customer services nor an email address only a tweet address which I haven't downloaded onto my handset.  So am stuck!!! Any and all advice very gratefully received as seriously peeved with BB models now.  My first BB was fantastic ... but all newer models have had problems ... think BB needs to ensure that all techy problems are fully ironed out prior to launching their new BB handset!
    1. Connect your Z10 to the wall outlet charger for an hour and then with the Z10 powered on, and with it STILL CONNECTED, remove the battery for a minute and replace. This will normally reset the the on-device battery meter and allow the charging status and percentage to show more correctly.

  • My iPhone 5 battery died and will no longer turn on. What do I do?

Just got my new iPhone 5 two days ago. My battery died and I tried to charge it for the first time but nothing happens. It won't charge via USB or the wall plug. The only thing that happens is the picture of the phone with the arrow pointing to the battery comes on indicating that the phone needs to be plugged in. What do I do?

For how long did you try to charge the phone? If you've tried charging for hours with nothing happening, I would assume there is a fault with either the Lightning cable or the phone itself (possibly a battery fault) since you get the same whether you connect to the PC or external charger. If you can, make a Genius Bar appointment to have all aspects checked...either that or return to where you purchased the phone and have them check it out and replace it under warranty.
EDIT: Something to try is to verify that the lightning port on the phone (and the cable) is free of any dust/lint/gunk/whatever. Try blowing it out or use a soft brush to disloge/remove any foreign matter that could be stuck in the port.

  • Battery discharging and fan running constantly after upgrading to Yosemite

MBP Early 2011. Just got back a month ago from Apple Support for video related issue. Almost EVERYTHING was replaced (logic board, video, ram, battery, cdrom, even my dented case. Thank you Apple!). Has run for a month flawlessly on Mavericks. Upgraded to Yosemite 48 hours ago. Light on magsafe stays green. Battery indicator icon states Battery is not charging (currently at 75% and falling). Power source: Power adapter. While plugged in and operating, battery is discharging and fan constantly running. If I shut down, mag safe light turns yellow and battery will charge to 100%. If left plugged in and running in Yosemite, battery will drain all the way down.
    Have tried:
Rebooting, putting into sleep mode, shutting down completely, unplugging and replugging power supply from wall and MBP while on and off, resetting SMC with Shift Control Option Power keys/buttons.
No third party battery or power apps installed, fresh load of Mavericks from factory when I got it back. This feels like something with the new energy management in Yosemite isn't working as expected to me. Thoughts & suggestions appreciated!

    UPDATE: Resolved!
Disabled all login items but problem persisted on normal boot. Resetting SMC and PRAM had no effect. After booting into Safe Boot, problem did not exist. Looked in console logs and saw this right as problem started to occur:
10/20/14 6:49:07.004 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.gspy.MO3V2Daemon[93967]) Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Library/MO3V2/MO3V2Daemon.app/Contents/MacOS/MO3V2Daemon
This pertains to the Steelseries WoW MMO gaming mouse. Ran the uninstall.command from Applications for this mouse software and rebooted. Fixed.
Light on MagSafe connector is orange, battery shows as charging, fan is not running constantly. I can't begin to understand how this would effect the battery charging functions but, after uninstalling this, the problem was resolved. Hope this will help someone else.

There is no "disk".  You have iTunes.
Have you tried a different cable, a different USB port, rebooting the computer?

  • Iphone shows itunes logo and usb

Tried to update the OS 4.3.2, it gave an error message at the end and displayed ituned logo and usb cable image. I checked it online and found others that had same problem. The phone was fronzen!!!. I pressed the two buttons simultaneously to reset it and it erased everything that I had. Luckily I have backup but ITunes wont restore it. What could have gone wrong?

    Hi,
This can happen if the connection between the iPhone and computer has been interupted or the software has encounted an error whilst it is being downloaded. If you can try another backup and if that doesnt work keep resetting the iPhone it will restore. I have had the same problem. But it can happen with something as simple as the connection being interrupted.
    Good luck!

  • Outlook 2007 Folders do not synch to iPhone w/ mobile me and two issues

My gmail account set up and accessed by Outlook 2007, syncs all the folders to the iPhone via imap to Mobile Me. Great!
1.) Outlook also is used for my Verizon pop account and none of the folders synch via mobile me to the iPhone. Help! This is frustrating.
2.) While on the email topic, I frequently find that the iPhone shows that the mail is synched but it misses several messages. Today I got four messages to my iPhone mail and 60 in my Outlook Email.
3.) Every week or two, I get a message on the iPhone saying that it could not connect that the password or login (to the verizon mail host) is incorrect. I know the password is correct and in fact after a few hours or a day it works fine. I know that the Verizon email service is not down because I can check mail via my pc. What's up? Apple techs say check with Verizon, but I already know it's not Verizon or the settings.

My gmail account set up and accessed by Outlook 2007, syncs all the folders to the iPhone via imap to Mobile Me. Great!
Did you create your Gmail account with the iPhone's mail client using the Gmail account preset? If so, you are not accessing your Gmail account with or through MobileMe, and there is no reason to do so if you have a MobileMe account.
1.) Outlook also is used for my Verizon pop account and none of the folders synch via mobile me to the iPhone. Help! This is frustrating.
Are you accessing your Verizon email account as a separate account email account with the iPhone's mail client, or are you forwarding messages received by your Verizon account to your MobileMe account, or do you have your MobileMe account checking the incoming mail server for your Verizon account with all messages received by your Verizon account delivered to the Inbox mailbox for your MobileMe account?
Regardless, none of the locally stored mailboxes for your Verizon account with Outlook on your PC will be available with your MobileMe account with the iPhone's mail client. All server stored mailboxes for your MobileMe account with Outlook on your PC will be available with the iPhone's mail client.
2.) While on the email topic, I frequently find that the iPhone shows that the mail is synched but it misses several messages. Today I got four messages to my iPhone mail and 60 in my Outlook Email.
If this is with your Verizon account and you are accessing your Verizon account as a separate account with the iPhone's mail client, what is your setting for the account with Outlook for removing messages from the server when downloaded? With a POP account, new messages received at the incoming mail server for the account are downloaded by the email client used to access the account with a setting for the account to remove or not remove messages from the server when downloaded by the email client being used to access the account.
This means you have Outlook launched and running actively checking the incoming mail server for new messages for your Verizon account while the iPhone's mail client is doing the same for the account. This is a limitation with a POP account. You can't have two email clients checking the incoming mail server at or near the same time. When one email client is checking the incoming mail server for new messages and/or downloading new messages received at the incoming mail server when a 2nd email client checks the incoming mail server for new messages, the incoming mail server will temporarily lock preventing the 2nd email client from being able to access the incoming mail server and download any new messages.
Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
This is not a problem with an IMAP account - more than likely your Gmail account is being accessed as an IMAP account with Outlook on your PC and with the iPhone's mail client, and the same for your MobileMe account. With an IMAP account, more than one email client can access server stored mailboxes at the same time .
You will need to quit Outlook when accessing your Verizon account with the iPhone's mail client, or don't have Outlook automatically checking the incoming mail server for new messages.
