Iphone 4s faulty on/off button

Three weeks ago I bought an Iphone 4s at Walmart but had to exchange it due to a dull screen. I noticed with this one 2-3 times a day the screen won't turn on when I press the on/off button. Has this happened to anyone? Will it get worse with time? I also noticed every so often when I'm using earphones the volume lowers out of nowhere...maybe it's the earphones. I can live with these issues if they continue to happen so few times, but can't if it gets worse. I'm over my 14 day frame to exchange at Walmart & would rather not exchange elsewhere if I can help it. What could the problem be? Thank you.

No, you can't live with it and you shouldn't need to.  Return it for a replacement. At any time, the iOS software may require a reset or restore.  If your sleep/wake button fails, you will not be able to perform either of those actions.  Depending on just a few factors, this could result in the loss of all the data on the iPhone.

  • IPhone 4 power on/off button working intermittently?

Hello everyone! My one and a half year old iphone 4 recently got dropped in the water recently for about a minute. ( I know, stupid stupid me!) I immediately panicked but noticed that nothing seemed to have happened at first glance. However, I immediately switched it off and dried it the best I could (including keeping it in rice). I switched it back on a day later and noticed that everything seems except for the power button and the speakers. Within a few hours, the speakers issue got resolved on its own and it started working alright. However, the power button seems to only work intermittently. For example, if I press it now, it locks the phine after fifteen minutes. Also, sometimes it locks by itself and shows the "slide to power off" slider screen, as if the phone thinks someone has been pressing the button continuously. I'm using assistive touch at the moment and tried to do a restore with iTunes but to no avail.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips to fix the button? Since my phone is out of warranty, how risky would it be to take it to a third party repair store because everything else is working fine and I don't really want a refurbished replacement?
Thanks in advance for any help, guys!

By using AssistiveTouch, you are pretty much doing all that you can, as this is a hardware problem with the button. I am afraid you will have to use it as is, or get a refurbished replacement for $149. If you are due for an upgrade with your carrier, you could actually get an 8GB iPhone 4 for free (if you sign a new 2-year contract), or even a 16GB iPhone 4S for $99.

  • Turn on/off button wont work on iphone 4s

    hey everyone,
for about about 2 weeks now my iphone 4s turn on/off button wont work. It seems stuck and i just cannot press on it I hadnt dropped it or damaged it in any way. To make matters worse I am currently living in Germany and am not due to return to Australia until October. Does anyone know if I can go into an apple store here in Germany and they will replace or fix the phone under warranty? I got this refurbished iphone last year from apple store in August after my previous one had just broken for no reason.
To make matters worse, my phone fell in the toilet this morning. I have since turned it off so as not to fry the battery. Iphone seems still to be working but now im worried that even if i can get it fixed in germany they won't because they might say its water damaged even though I had this problem with on/off button prior.
    any help would be appreciated!!!
    thanks

  • On/off button??

I am wanting to trade in my iphone 4 for the new iphone. My on/off button is stuck, but you can still turn the phone on and off, you just have to press down a little harder. My question is, am I able to press yes when they ask if the on/off button is working? Technically, it still is. I just don't want to have any issues in if I send my phone in.

I'd have them take a look at the store or do it there if possible

Dear apple, I am really dissapointed with you. Around January 2013, my iPhone 4s 16GB White has hardware issues, which was the Wi-Fi grey out. The wifi grey out means that I can't access the wifi on/off button, and also it has no connection. I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? That isn't how it should work, you should be fixing this problem so people can be happy customers and leave happy. Obviously you don't all know how to do your jobs, because if you did, we wouldn't have this problem. I would like a replacement phone, ONCE AGAIN. If this problem occurs again, I will simply stop buying your products, and lose faith in your company, your's sincerely, Jack Maher.

My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3.

Same here.... No fix. Replacing is the option apparently and if you're out of warranty, you're SOL. That was as per the "Genius" at Apple.

On belhalf of my fellow volunteers, the answer is, "We'll try our best."
My advice is to try not to treat this like it is a paid service provided by compensated professionals.  Ask nicely and one of the nice folks here might take some time out of their weekend to offer advice.

  • The on off button no longer works on my iPhone 4s. If I update my iOS will my phone turn itself off as part of the process? If it does I won't be able to turn it back on so I need to know but can't remember from last time!!!

Will my iPhone 4s turn off as part of the process of updating my iOS? The on/off button on my iphone doesn't work so I can't allow my phone to run out of battery or turn off because I will not be able to turn it back on.

    Ok here is a nuance
Try it - when your phone locks
Insert the charging cord which is connected to a power source on the other end  - wait about a minute - and then take it out
    The screen will "wake up"
That is always your way out
I use assistive touch as well to lessen the wear and tear on my home button
Sleep mode is what your phone does when you are asleep

  • I dropped my Iphone in water and the on/off button stopped working, how do I fix it?

I dropped my phone in some water and it was only in there for about two or three seconds. I grabbed it and dried it straight away and made sure to get in all of it, and it was fine, everything worked. But about an hour after the on/off button stopped working, so i have to use the home button to unlock it and have to wait for the screen to turn off after 1 minute of leaving it. I cant turn it off and dont know how to fix it. Will it go away on its own, do I have to send it off to get fixed? This literally happened like two hours ago, and my phone is a bit more than a year old. Can anyone help me?

Make an app;ointment at the genius bar and take your credit card. You can get an out of warrnty replacement for an iPhone 4 for $149.
If you had just done it, the advice would have been to shut it off and put it in a bowl or bag of uncooked rice or silica gel for a week.  Unfortunately, since it's been powered on for several hours, since then, it may have been permanently damaged. You can try the rice trick, but be prepared to pay for a replacement at some point down the road.

  • My on/off button does not appear to be working on my iphone 3.....is there any way around this....anyway around this?...the phone also periodically just switches off.

my on/off button does not appear to be working on my iphone 3.....is there any way around this....anyway around this?...the phone also periodically just switches off.

Likely a hardware issue... no way around that except to get it repaired or don't use it (the button).
Try restoring to solve the switching off problem.

  • I have iphone 4 and his on/off Button is brocken what can I do?

I have iphone 4 and his on/off Button is brocken what can I do?

This seems to be a network issue and is common globally.  Apple seems to need particularly good networks to operate consistently.
I have friends and family with iPhones.  Here are a few experiences:
I know that my friend is on holiday a couple of hours north of where I live.  I cant call her.  I call her partner who has a Nokia.  Same network same place, actually sitting beside each other on the beach.  The Nokia works fine, the iPhone, inoperative and no signal.
My Brother has an iPhone 4.  We are meant to be in a convoy heading north.  I am talking to him on the phone and he agrees to pick up our dad.  he is on the motorway in the city.  He is not in the country in some poor coverage area.  I try and ring him straight back and it goes to answer service.  I try again.  I ring his wife, who is sitting right next to him in the car.  She has a Nokia - no problems.  His iPhone simply lost signal.  He was not talking on it.   His iPhone drops calls or is unable to make calls at all sorts of random places.  The worse the coverage, i.e. rural in the country the less service he has.
My Brother goes to China on business.  He is roaming.  His iPhone never lost signal and never dropped a call.
Our conclusion.  An iPhone staying connected to a network is a delicate thing if you do not have a powerful network with good coverage, particularly 3G coverage if you have a 3G phone.  Your solution is to probably change networks and get one that has better coverage.  Your other solution might be to get  Nokia so that you can actually call people and use your iPhone for all of the cool email, games, iTunes and other functions it has.  Afterall that is what is was designed for - the phone thing seems to be an optional extra.

    Hello!
When there is unauthorized modifications on the iPhone Apple doesnt replace the product. Unfortunately you will need to get a new iPhone!
If you could have contacted Apple when you broke your screen you would be eligible to get a replacement after paying the Out of Warranty service fee.
    All the best!
