IPhone 5 stuck in recovery mode. Not recognized in iTunes for Windows

Hi,
My iphone 5 stuck during update to 8.2. It is now frozen in recovery mode, showing a 'connect to itunes' screen. The problem I have is that (the recently upgraded to 12.0.1) itunes is not recognizing my device. I have tried all of the suggestions here: iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows, to no avail. I have not removed iTunes and reinstalled to test that, as I am concerned this will destroy the backups of my phone - which I will now desperately need once the phone is recovered.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
Cheers

Hi AmberX92,
If you receive an error 3194 when attempting to restore your iPhone, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • IPod Help needed from serious Apple gurus - iPod Touch 2g 16g stuck in restart loop. Will NOT enter DFU or recovery mode, NOT recognized by iTunes on Windows or Mac

Ok, so here's the not so sad story. I bought an iPod Touch 2g 16g through Ebay - so forget warranties. Luckily I did not pay much. The description said it was stuck on the apple logo, so I figured it would be an easy put into recovery mode and restore problem.
    Not so much.
If you plug the iPod in and charge up the battery the LCD will come to life after a while with the apple logo, then it displays the spinning wheel with the apple logo over it. That will last anywhere from 10 - 15 minutes, then the iPod will go blank for a few secs and then start up the cycle all over again.
As stated, this iPod will NOT enter either DFU or recovery mode and believe me I've tried it several times several different ways with different timings, connected via USB to a Mac, connected to a different Mac running Windows, and connected to just the charger. Nothing. Occasionally the screen might go blank while holding the power and home buttons but nothing else happens and then it starts it's usual cycle again.
Again, iPod NOT recognized by iTunes on either Mac or Windows side. Since I got off Ebay and seller didn't know much about it, I have no idea if someone tried to jailbreak this or not.
I will not put much money into this machine. So I guess my question is: does this behavior mean that the motherboard is clearly fried? Are there any software programs that might diagnose what the problem is? Could it be as simple as a fried battery?
And most importantly, is this iPod simply toast or is there anything anyone can suggest????
Really any suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated. Seems a shame to just trash an iPod touch that might need a simple fix...
If it helps matters, I can tinker with iPods somewhat and have torn down and replaced several iPod touch 1g and 2g glass and digitizers with no problems. I'm somewhat software savvy but the whole jailbreak thing is new territory... and I can't really figure out the command in Windows or Mac terminals to list all connected devices so I have no idea if the computer even knows the iPod is there, even if iTunes doesn't. Guess that's it... ummm, please help???

Nothing huh? No one's had this problem or this isn't fixable... oh well... if anybody comes up with anything I'll check in occasionally...

  • Iphone 5c in recovery mode not recognized by windows 8

Hey there. I'm having a LOT of trouble with my iPhone (5c) and I could use some expert help. A couple of days ago a vertical black line appeared on the right side of my screen. I hadn't dropped it or damaged it in any way, so I was a bit puzzled by it. A friend at work suggested I restored to factory settings to see if that helped (I didn't think it would, but what would be the harm to try?). Everything else was working just fine. Midway through the restore, iTunes says it can't finish because it can't detect my iPhone any longer. Meanwhile, my iPhone is now displaying the "connect to iTunes image". But now, when I plug it in, Windows does not recognise it. Tried with two different PCs, neither is working.
I'm currently on a Windows 8.1 PC and using iOS 8.1.1 on my phone. I tried all the stuff on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support, but there's no way. Can anyone please help me out with this?

Thanks for the help TJBUSMC1973. I followed the instructions on the microsoft site and when I plugged in the iPhone iTunes did recognize it. However, midway through the restore, it again disconnected somehow and iTunes could not complete the restore (error code number 9). At that moment, the image on the iPhone screen had changed from "connect to iTunes" to "updating" (apple logo with the progress bar below it). Now I'm back at square one.

  • IOS5 Update causes Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I did an iPad1 IOS5 update and on the reboot could not get iTunes to recognize my iPad.
I did all the recommended troubleshooting to no avail. So I called this morning and while on hold I put my password back on my device just as before and BAM iTunes now recognizes device and is doing my restore.
So if you do a backup of your device before the update and you have it password protected, it won't recognize the device until you go through and setup a new device and put your password back to what is was before, then BAM you're good! Good Luck and hopefully you won't have to spend the day I did figuring this out.

  • TS1538 Ipod Touch stuck in DFU mode, not recognized in itunes after 1602 error restoring.

I've tried all of the: Hold Power button and Home items. It's plugged into the computer, screen is black. Windows sees the apple mobile device driver under devices and hardware. The driver's properties says it's in DFU mode. It was constatnly stuck in Recovery mode showing the CD+music note icon and the 30-pin connector image. Connecting the ipod to the computer, windows makes the connection sound but itunes does not open. Opening itunes, ipod is not recognized.
    It's a gen 1 touch, version 2.? firmware, I think.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • Recovery Mode not recognized by Itunes PLZ HELP!

My IPhone 5S is in recovery mode but will not be recognized by Itunes? Any suggestion,  i cannot simply reset my phone because i put it into Recovery because it was not restoring, the bar didnt move and hasnt moved at all for the past 2:30 hours. It was not being recognised by Itunes in the first place, then on i tried to reset it to factory default which did not work and was stuck. when i try to restart it just goes back to the loading bar which does not move at all. So i put to factory default and would not be recognised by itunes again, i have tried
    1) uninstalling and Reinstalling itunes and apple support
    2) Yelling at it with frustration in hopes it would  work (Which obviously wouldnt work)
    3) Restarting the Apple mobile support in the services of the windows pc and checking for updates for the itunes application

  • My iphone is not recognized in itunes for windows

I have followed the directions from apple support.  Uninstalled & reinstalled itunes, everything the page said to do & my phone isn't recognized in iTunes and it comes up as unkown device in windows.  Any suggestions?

If you went through items 1-6 at the bottom of the article and they didn't help then try uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components by following this article exactly: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 (removing all components in the order specified).  (I know you mentioned that you uninstalled iTunes but I wasn't sure if you followed this article or not.  If not, try it again following this article.)

  • IPhone 4 not recognized in iTunes for Windows 8.1

I am using Windows 8.1 and the computer recognizes the device but not iTunes. I have tried deleting and re-installing iTunes as well as the device manager, but neither solution has fixed my problem. Any help is appreciated!

To Helpware, THANK YOU for keeping me from throwing out my Iphone and buying something else!
I can confirm that this also works on the Iphone 3GS with Windows 8.1.
Note: just uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes did NOT work for me. As this answer says, you need to unistall the Apple Device Driver too.
    Thank you again!
