    Hey Justinrulz108,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Your issue sounds similar to the device not being recognized in iTunes while in recovery mode. It may be good to attempt the troubleshooting in the following article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Refer to Step 5 "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed" and the sub-section titled "If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode". Here is an excerpt to get you started (see article for full information, including important additional steps):
Your device may not be recognized while in recovery mode. This can happen during an update or restore of your device. Typically when your device is in recovery mode, it will show the "Connect to iTunes" logo on its display. If iTunes does not recognize the device when in this state, try the following:
    1. Open the Device Manager:
Windows XP: Click Start > Run. In the resulting dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return.
Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click Start. In the dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return on the keyboard. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click "Continue".
Windows 8: Move the cursor to the upper right corner, click the magnifying glass, type devmgmt.msc, and press Return.
    2. Click the plus ( + ) icon (Windows XP and Vista) or the disclosure triangle () (for Windows 7 and 8) next to Imaging Devices, Other Devices, Portable Devices, and Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand these sections.
    3. Check these sections for one or more entries called Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode). These entries may or may not have exclamation marks on them similar to the following:
    [continue with steps]
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 to restore the phone using Recovery Mode. You will lose all content on the phone. This is the only way to bypass the lock screen if you don't have the last computer the phone was synced to.

  • Iphone in recovery mode and wont restore

    hello,
I tried updating my iphone 5s to iOS8 yesterday and it was stuck updating for a couple of hours without moving an inch despite me having a good internet connection. so i unplugged it and it went into recovery mode, i knew i would have to restore it but now when u plug it into itunes it says u
it needs to be restored and updated and when i click yes it downloads the iphone software update but when thats finished it just comes up again saying it needs to be restored and updated and when i click yes it just downloads the software update again. its done this about 5-10 times and is getting very frustrating. i have the latest version of itunes so i know it cant be that.
    can anyone help?
    Many thanks

I had a similar issue. Turns out it was my internet connection at home and its inability to download large files without corrupting them (apparently a known issue with my Motorola modem). Usually it's not an issue but I tried it 30 or 40 times before I finally took my device to work and updated it there and it worked on the first try. Do you have the option of trying it somewhere else? Worth a shot anyway.

  • My brother's iPod was disabled for 23 million minutes then my dad fiddled with it. Now it's stuck in recovery mode and wont connect to my computer or go into DFU mode. How do I fix it?

It's an iPod touch 4S, white.
I've tried on various computer types (windows, macs, and even a linux) and nothing. None of the computers even recognized a device being plugged in.
I know it's not the cable, our other idevices use that one fine (I bought several more to be sure and no luck).
My dad is at his wits end and I want this insanity to end. Help please.
It's been locked so long I don't know what iOS it's on.
Dear god, what did my brother do.

    See what you missed here:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) and frozen "Connect to iTunes" screen

I have had my iPod Touch for about one year and have synced with my PC (XP) without incident during that time. Yesterday something happened while connecting with iTunes and I have not been able to find the solution on this board or others. Maybe the charge remaining in the iPod was insufficient. The iPod screen is frozen with the "Connect to iTunes" icon. I can turn it off (black screen) but as soon as it is attached to the PC or docked, the same icon reappears. I cannot make the red slider appear to shut it down.
On the PC side, as soon as I attach the iPod, it wants to install the driver for "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)". I have attempted to point it to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers find the driver, but what it wants is not there. I have completely uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime and related files; and reinstalled iTunes. I have tried every trick I can find in this forum and others to no avail. When the iPod is connected to the PC, the device manager shows Other Devices - Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) with a yellow question mark and exclamation point. This device shows twice. The Apple Mobile Device USB Driver shows under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and is working properly.
I am at the end of my rope. I hope somebody that can help me will read this. Thanks.

    Hi
I am experiencing the same problem as the person in the first thread as follows:
"The iPod screen is frozen with the "Connect to iTunes" icon. I can turn it off (black screen) but as soon as it is attached to the PC or docked, the same icon reappears. I cannot make the red slider appear to shut it down.

I have tried everything I can think of and have been advised to do on the Apple Support pages but this makes no difference.
Please can someone offer a solution.

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. Also, discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user. If the issue remains, Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Hi my iphone 5 is on recovery mode and I connect it with the computer but it's failing to restore the device the message is showing iphone restore failed!!!!!

    Hi Bobi1346,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities and for including the error number you are getting.
There's an article for troubleshooting that error.
    iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014
Try these steps to resolve the issue:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
    Restart your computer.
Make sure your computer is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after you restart.
Learn more about updating OS X.
    Learn more about updating Windows.
    Restore using another USB cable.
Restore your device on another computer.
If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your device, contact Apple for support.
    Take care,
    Nubz

My iphone 4 has died and says connect to itunes.  itunes restore wont work, error message 2001, then 2006 appears.Tried all the troubleshooting help, but nothing works. Any ideas???

I solved my own problem. Hopefully this will help someone else.
I did a DFU restore, then started it up as a new phone on iTunes. Everything loaded properly, then from iTunes did a restore from backup, selected the one I wanted and it still took me to the same screen with 3 options of restore. I chose the start up as new phone from the actual phone and after all the syncing was completed, my phone is back in working order.
