IPhone and ActiveSync

Does the iPhone work with Exchange 2003?

I was happily accessing my work's Exchange email after they enabled IMAP. They required me to VPN, but that hassle is worth full access to all my folders.
Until... just yesterday our IT dept had to turn off Exchange's IMAP support, it was causing the server to run out of memory, lots of problems.
I did some googling and apparently Exchange has had this type of problem with IMAP clients:
http://www.paessler.com/blog/2006/08/17/ipcheck-server-monitor/analyzing-a-slow- exchange-2003-server/
http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-6230-0.html?forumID=101&threadID=204502&message ID=2128667
Is anyone else experiencing Exchange memory usage problems with IMAP? Is it maybe being caused by the iPhone IMAP client?
Anyone happen to know some Exchange settings that need to be tweaked, so I can ask IT to turn IMAP back on?
Or is it time for iPhone users to unite against Microsofty corporate IT departments, stage walkouts, server room sit-ins, etc. until the iPhone gets the respect it deserves?

  • Exchange 2003 Stand Alone Server No Connection from Iphone and ActiveSync

We have a single Exchange 2003 Server SP2. We have a test user that has an iPhone and I have been trying to get it connected. Have tried everything I can think of, it always fails on creating the account with "Account Verification Failed" Please let me know what I can do to get this working. I have a BES and about 28 other users with Blackberry's all working.

    Hi SC,
Make sure the iPhone is updated. http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/
How is the iPhone connecting to the Internet? Try testing over a local Wi-Fi network that the Exchange server is running on.
Also, you can try emailing the iPhone a configuration profile with security certificates. The iPhone Enterprise support has a configuration utility and a Deployment Guide which will help you verify configuration settings.

  • IPhone and Ipad activeSync go crazy

    Hi all,
We are experiencing strange problem with some users using iphone and Ipad in our company
(We allow users to sync their professional mailbox on their iphone)
i will try to be the clearest as possible:
we have multiple exchange CAS server, our front CAS receive the information and send request to other CAS servers. recently we shut down a CAS server (exchange is still installed on it we only shut it down before uninstalling it)
since this shutdown i have 2 colleague (for the moment) that are reporting this problem:
when they refresh their mailbox, the iphone flush all downloaded mails in inbox and redownload everything ...... here is what i can find on my CAS server logs (it's a small exemple):

  • IPhone and MS Exchange WITHOUT Activesync

A few months back I tried and tried to sync up my friends iphone with his works ms exchange. It wasn't my phone so I gave up.
I have since learned some more info about the server...is MS exchange 2003 and activesync is not enabled. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you try to sync up your phone using the built in exchange utility, it requires activesync to be enabled? Because I entered the correct info for sure and I could not get it to work.
So is there anyway to access a 2003 exchange server without activesync?
I had this same problem on an android phone, I was getting the exact same results as the iphone. Then I downloaded a program that let you chose activesync or 2003 protocal and it works perfectly (obviously in chose 2003 protocol and not activesync).
I realize it won't be push email, and thats fine, 15 minute polling is fine by me. If the native iPhone utility can't do it, is there an app for this?

You can access an Exchange account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's mail client, but IMAP account access must be enabled at the Exchange server for your account.
In order to have over the air syncing for contacts and calendar events ActiveSync must be enabled at the Exchange server.

  • IPhone 2.2.1 and ActiveSync 2.5

I've been using my iPhone 3G to sync to my Kerio MailServer 6.6.2 for months without any problems. According to the log files, Kerio uses ActiveSync 2.5 for syncing mail, contacts and calendars.
Until 2.2.1, this worked flawlessly, syncing everything almost immediately. SInce updating to 2.2.1, syncing works sporadically at best. On the iPhone, I've deleted the email account, deleted the Domain from the email account, and set Mail days to sync to No Limit. I've powered down and done hard resets as well.
On the Kerio server, I removed the iPhone association and re-associated it. I can watch the connection between the Kerio server and the iPhone randomly disconnect, and not reconnect. It will only reconnect if I go to the Inbox of the mail account or change from WiFi to 3G (and vice versa).
Now, it is only the iPhone that drops it's active connection. All other devices maintain their continuous connection. These random disconnects occurred immediately after the upgrade to 2.2.1, and the iPhone is the only device affected.
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Other websites are listing this as a problem for many others as well. How do you revert back to 2.2.0?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

There are issues with syncing with the Kerio mailserver, and I have the same problems as your User. Pushing of new emails is random at best, as is syncing with deletions, sends, etc. My address books and calendar events also do not sync consistently.
Version 2.2 worked flawlessly with instant updates for new emails and changes in mailboxes, contact list and calandars. The change could have occurred on any computer or the iPhone, and everything synced almost instantly.
Interestingly, the iPhone is the only device affected. Local and remote computers using Entourage sync without any problems almost instantly.
In the Kerio Admin Console under active connections, you can see the connections between the iPhone and Kerio dropping and not reconnecting. This occurs whether the phone is using WiFi or the cellular networks. Other computers remain connected as does the BlackBerry Internet Service using IMAP.
If you find a solution, please let me know. This is very frustrating.

  • The same Exchange ActiveSync profile is applied to an iPhone and an iPad and the result is different?

We have an Iphone (IOS7) and  IPad (IOS7). I apply the same profile Exchange to my two devices. The profile has been configured and applied through the Configuration Utility from Apple. After that, there is a difference. I do not have the same result about automatic Lock setting. On the Iphone, the configuration is available and I can choose the length of time before the lock of device. On the iPad, the option is grayed out and not accessible. It’s impossible to make a change on the IPAD. Why the same profile configuration Exchange does not give the same result on the Iphone and Ipad?

It appears the iphone and ipad in IOS6 or IOS7 have separate auto lock timeout setting options. On an Ipad I have 2, 5, 10, 15 and Never. On an Iphone I have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Never.
So, when a policy is applied by Exchange. If only 3 minutes maximun to locked equipment, Apple will gray out the option when only one choice of 2 minutes is available on an iPad.

  • How do I get mail on my iPhone and Mac to sync automatically, so e.g. messages read on one appear read on both?

    Hello!
I use Gmail, and with either Google Sync or with a standard account set up, I'm not able to get my iPhone and MacBook Pro to sync mail automatically, so I end up having to read and delete emails twice.
There must be an easy way around that, that I'm stupidly unable to find, right?
    Thanks!

If you created as an Exchange account on the iPhone (not IMAP or POP) and you have Push on it should all work smoothly; Reading a message on either client should mark the other read (it does on mine). Try deleting the account from the phone, rebooting the phone (to clear out old settings), then go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar, add an account and tap Microsoft Exchange and add the account back.
There is a fundamental difference between BB and iPhone that you should be aware of; on the BB you do not sync directly with Exchange; you sync with the RIM server which then syncs with your Exchange server. The iPhone syncs directly with Exchange using Microsoft's ActiveSync protocol. So in some ways they will behave differently. But ActiveSync should manage marking messages as read correctly.

  • Outlook multi-day (not 'all day') meeting requests showing up as 1 day off on iphone attached Activesync Exchange 2010 accounts

    Exchange 2010 SP2 Server
iPhone iOS 5.01 (4/4s) using ActiveSync
    Outlook 2007 clients
When multi-day (not 'all day') meeting requests or appointments are being sent to email accounts which have an iPhone attached to the Exchange account via ActiveSync, the iPhone accepts the meeting request but then moves the event one day later than what it was originally scheduled and posts it to Outlook - also 1 day later than it is supposed to be.
For example:  A meeting request comes into my that is schedule for 9AM-4PM M-W but when I accept it on my iphone it gets posted to my calendar as an ALL DAY event but T-Thu
We upgraded to Exchange SP2 because some of the threads were alluding that SP2 would fix it - it didn't.  I know the fix is to rip out the event to separate calendar events but this will not work for reqeusts coming from outside.  And this is too tedious.  If anything, it is a serious bug.
    Anybody seen this before?
    Thanks,
    Monty.

I am experiencing a similar problem with a client of mine who is using Microsoft's Cloud-based Exchange server, Office 365.  I suspect the Office 365 server is an Exchange 2010 server, similar to your environment.  Check out my tests below which I think define when the day shifting happens.
I see that you applied SP2 to your Exchange 2010 environment, but have you also applied Update Rollup 1?  See this article:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324.  It would be interesting to know whether that rollup resolves your problem.
I have done some pretty extensive testing and have posted in the Office 365 Support Forum (http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/146/p/53396/192332.aspx#192332)  Here is a summary of my testing.
I am having the exact same problem described by Jim Edmonds and jkwmail (http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/176/p/19921/93304.aspx#93304) with one of my clients who is not very happy about this or our inability to resolve the problem.  Here is what I am experiencing:
When an appointment in Office 365 spans multiple days, the appointment gets converted to an All Day Event and moved forward one day on an iPhone ActiveSync client.
I have completed the following troubleshooting:
1 - Using my GMail Account and my work email account on MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server I created separate single day appointments in the morning from each account spanning two hours and invited my client who is using MS Outlook 2010 and Office 365.
Result:  The appointments show the correct date and time on my Outlook, MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 OWA, and iPhone as well as my client's Outlook, Office 365 webmail, and iPhone.
2 - Using my GMail Account and my work email account on MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server I created separate single day appointments in the afternoon from each account spanning two hours and invited my client who is using MS Outlook 2010 and Office 365.
Result:  The appointments show the correct date and time on my Outlook, MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 OWA, and iPhone as well as my client's Outlook, Office 365 webmail, and iPhone.
3 - Using my GMail Account and my work email account on MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server I created separate multi-day appointments from Friday at 5 PM to Monday at 8 AM from each account and invited my client who is using MS Outlook 2010 and Office 365.
Result:  The appointments show the correct date and time on my Outlook, MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 OWA, and iPhone as well as my client's Outlook and Office 365 webmail.  However, on my client's iPhone, the time on the appointments had changed to an all day event and the start date was shifted one day forward, Saturday, and the end date was Monday unless the appointment end time was after the appointment start time in which case it created an All Day Event on Tuesday as well.  For Example:  If the appointment was from 8 AM Friday Morning to 8 AM Monday Morning, the iPhone would show an All Day Event on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  If the appointment was from 8 AM Friday Morning to 8:30 AM Monday Morning, the iPhone would show an All Day Event on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.  If the appointment was from 8 AM Friday Morning to 7:30 AM Monday Morning, the iPhone would show an All Day Event on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  This was also true for appointments starting on Friday at 5 PM and ending on Monday at 5 PM, starting on Friday at 5 PM and ending on Monday at 5:30 PM, and starting on Friday at 5 PM and ending on Monday at 4:30 PM as in the above AM examples.
*** Again I would like to note that on my iPhone which is connected to my company's MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 server, the multi-day appointment shows up correctly with correct start and end times and is not converted to an All Day Event. ***
It would seem this is a problem with ActiveSync on Office 365 and iOS devices.  What is particularly frustrating is that this exact problem is identified in KB 2563324 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324) Issue 1.6 - "An appointment is longer than 24 hours is changed to a multi-day All Day Event" which states:  "To resolve this issue, install Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2)."  Since this is a cloud based service, we do not have the ability to either see what the current version of the Exchange service we are connected to is or update the service with this patch level.
4 - I performed the above three tests with my client creating the events in MS Outlook 2010 and inviting my work account on the MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server and got the exact same results.
5 - My client's iPhone is running iOS 4.3 and my iPhone is running iOS 5.1.0.  In order to test this without going through the update process on my client's iPhone, I set up his Office 365 account on my iPhone and performed the tests in numbers 1-4 from above, viewing the results on my iPhone, and got the exact same results.
6 - Today, I tried this with a different Office 365 account, performed the multi-day test in number 3 from above and got the exact same results.
7 - Today I also upgraded my iPhone to iOS 5.1.1, performed the multi-day test in number 3 from above and got the exact same results.
8 - I have confirmed that all time zones are set correctly.  I have checked the iPhone, OWA, Office 365 Webmail, etc.
I believe the problem in my case is with the Office 365 environment and not the iOS device.  However, trying to get support from these large companies seems to be very difficult?
Does anyone from Apple know if this is an iOS bug or a problem with Exchange 2010/Office 365?
    Thanks...
    Jp

  • IPhones using activesync causing excessive transaction log growth on Exchange 2010

    Hi there.
We have around 60 iPhone or iPad users who are retrieving their emails from our Exchange 2010 SP2 servers using activesync.
Back when everyone was using the 3GS this worked just fine but late in 2011 we noticed that the transaction logs on our exchange servers were growing out of control. They should be roughly two times the volume of emails sent or received but all of a sudden we were getting fourty times as many! We only send just over 1GB of emails per week but have 50GB of transaction logs in that time.
I've spent ages trying to track down the cause and have an open TAC case with Microsoft that's been dragging on for several months now. We have recently proved that it's activesync causing the log growth - disable it and everything returns to normal - but they don't seem to be in any rush to identify a fix and I suspect their answer will be "Stop using iPhones".
Has anyone else seen this behaviour before and if so did you find a fix?
I was hoping iOS 6 might provide a solution but I'm reluctant to get everyone to upgrade because of the well publicised problems with maps and now I see that there are different Activesync bugs involving cancellation of meeting requests.
Anyone who can provide me with a resolution will win a prize as I'm at my wits end here.
    Thanks

I have seen the issue twice in two weeks.  Two different users, the commonality is both an iphone, and an ipad.  In both cases the ipad was on wifi.  I was able to turn on device logging in the ECP and in 20 minutes captured over 1 MB log on i-pad.  I disabled the i-pad via the ecp and issue disipated.
When I reviewed the log the content that was being sync'd was over 5 months old.  I instructed the user to back off to 30 days.  Device is still stable, and the 30 days is just a temporary solution.  I have opened a case with Microsoft for further review of the session log.  What is interesting is that the log is consumed with a particular fetch and message class:  ipm.note.eas  <- EAS is the Exchange Archiving System stub created by Zantaz.  I confirmed with our admin that we did not do any sync on the EAS server.  I am looking into if the User initiated an Outlook resync of stubs.

  • Public Contacts on iPhone with ActiveSync problem.

    Hello everyone,
First of all I'm going to explain a little about the situation we currently have.
So, the managers in this company told us they wanted a "Public Contacts" list within Outlook, which could be synchronized with the company iPhones via ActiveSync.
What we did was make a new AD user account, which is in linked to an Exchange user mailbox. We gave our employees full "Manage" rights on this mailbox and added the "Public Contacts" list in their Outlook.
The problem then was, that they could edit the contacts.
So we started to test with certain rights within Outlook. We deleted the employees from the "Full Manage permissions" list within the exchange mailbox and gave them view rights on the Public Contact-list within Outlook. (Commentator rights)
When we did this, they could view the contacts, but they could not edit the contacts. This was exactly what we wanted, so we started to test with the synchronisation with ActiveSync (iPhone)
We added the exchange mailbox in the iPhone and we could see all the contacts.
However, the only problem that we have now is that our employees can edit the contacts on their iPhones, while they CAN'T edit the contacts within Outlook. (on PC)
I hope someone could help us find a solution for this permissions problem.
They can't edit the contacts on the computer, but they can on the iPhone. :(
If something is not clear, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance! :)

    Hello Eric,
First of all, thanks for the reply.
    We've done the following:
    - Create a new AD Account called "Public Contacts"
    - We created a new mailbox on the Exchange Server called: Public.Contacts"at""company""dot""com"
    - We connected the Public Contacts account to this new mailbox.
    - We gave our test account called "Helpdesk" NO
rights on the mailbox on the exchange server (so no Send As and no Full Manage rights).
    - Then we went in the Public Contacts mailbox (within Outlook) and went to contacts. Here we gave the account "Helpdesk" Commentator rights. (View Everything, but nothing else)
    - We went into the account "Helpdesk" and went to contacts. I could not edit any contacts on my computer (Which is a good thing).
    - So I've got it running on my PC now, but on the iPhone I won't even see the contacts. I've added the Exchange mailbox to the iPhone and used the Helpdesk account to login to it.
Before we could edit both the contacts on the PC and on the iPhone. Now I can see the contacts on the PC, but I cannot edit them... but on the iPhone they won't even show.
I will definitely try out your suggestion though.
    Thanks!!!

  • Hello! How can i setup and what to enable that my secretary has my shared calendar on her Iphone and that she can edit it? We are on Exchange 2010, Outlook 2010, Iphone 4s. Can it be done through some app? Thank you!

Hello! How can i setup and what to enable that my secretary has my shared calendar on her Iphone and that she can edit it? We are on Exchange 2010, Outlook 2010, Iphone 4s. Can it be done through some app? Thank you! I'm trying to avoid creating my exchange activesync account on her Iphone and then sync only my calendar.

Thank you for your time. I'm trying to avoid that because she can then simply turn on mail syncronization and then she could read my mail. Another reason is our password policy, that enforces changing our windows logon password every 90 days. Of course changing windows logon passwords demands changing exchange account logon info (password) on Iphone. I have read somwhere that there was an app but it was removed from app store. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry, I meant the letters look "faded" not faed.

  • Jabber for iPhone and iPad cannot receive calls

We currently have Call Manager 9.1.1 and Presence 9.1.1.
I am starting to use the Jabber Client for iPhone and iPad, but am having trouble receiving calls dialed to a particular extension.
If I can go settings for the iPhone Jabber client as an example, I am succesffuly connected to all accounts: IM, Phone Services, Voicemail, and WebEx.
When I go to the keypad, I can succesffuly dial internal extensions and make outbound calls to any numbers and they come accross as using my extension.
When calling the extension, my desk phone rings, but not the Jabber client.
Not sure what could be causing this issue to occur for Jabber not receiving the calls.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Paul Gaydos

Should still work. But would be good to check indial into jabber with the phone unplugged, just for testing purposes.
also, you have checked the partition and configuration on the TAB device is the same as on the deskphone?
Can you attach call manager traces when making a test call and attach to the case.  Let us know the extension and device names you have used in the test, and a timestamp of the test.
    thanks

  • How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).
