IPhone Dropping WiFi

OK, I have been having this problem for months, always with the hope that the latest update would fix it, to no avail.
I have an iPhone 8GB (non-3g), running OS 3.1.3
The phone will see strong signal, and I can have it connect to Wifi access points without problem, however, after a few seconds, it drops the Wifi connection and reverts to Edge for data service. This will happen weather the data connection is being used or not.
I have the same problem on all networks. (so its not a "reset the router" problem)
I have read numerous threads here and elsewhere about similar issues, but most have been left unresolved it seems, nevertheless, I have tried the following common suggestions without success:
"Forget this Network" - then retry connection. No change.
"Reset all network settings" - no change.
"turn wifi on and off a bunch of times" - no change
"Hard restart" iphone - No change
"Restore" using itunes - No change (though this did not reset me back to fimware 1.X.X that my phone had when I got it)
Anyone have any ideas that might work? I'm sick of this phone being a constant headache.

Hi rayfound,
It may be a failure of the wifi card in your phone as you have done everything possible to rule out software.
When you restore your phone it will not downgrade beyond the last major change so you can't go back to OS 2 if your currently running OS 3.
My only suggestion would be to visit the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store. You can make an appointment online. They will service your phone for free if its under warranty or tell you how much it will cost to fix the issue.

  • TS1398 iPhones drop wifi even with full strength signal.

I am running ios 6.0.1 I have a  Duel band wifi 2.4 and 5. Iphones drop wifi regularly. I can get back on wifi by going to settings, shut off wifi then turn it back on.  But that is not the point.  Why does it drop?  iPads connected  on the 5 band work fine.  . All was fine with iOS 5. Does any one know why?    The fix??

I can relate to this problem but with a twist. I bought 2 (32gig) ipod touches last week and have a strange problem with the wif fi dropping out. One of the ipod's works perfectly with great range and little drop out, the other identical ipod touch continuously drops the wireless signal and I keep having to log on constantly, which is a real pain as I am using the ipod for home automation and media control. Wondering whether to take it back for replacement. Has anyone any ideas here please ?

  • Iphone dropping wifi then reconnects while on skype or viber but not netflix

while on call in skype or viber at home, my iphone 4 would drop the VOIP call, wifi icon immediately switches back to 3G then after 2 seconds switches back to wifi again(I never have to go connect again manually, it always comes back by itself).  All happens without any intervention, and once the wifi icon comes back i can dial skype call again.  This could happen 3 or 4 times on a 30 mins skype/viber call.
I have a 1st gen 3G iPad as well and I use it to watch movies on netflix, it has never dropped the wifi like that even after watching movies for more than an hour.  Its just very strange. I've search around the internet and people who have iphone wifi drop problems always have to go reconnect to wifi manually or restart the phone to connect, which is not my case.  I've also tried resetting the network settings on the iphone, didn't help.
I have 2 PCs, a Macbook pro, and a PS3, all using the same wifi connection, and like the ipad none of them have any problems with the wifi at all (not all connected a the same time, i usually have the MBP and the 2 iOS devices connected at all times). And for the iPhone, the wifi drop seems to isolate to Skype and Viber calls only.  Anyone have any idea how to fix this? by the way, i have never tried VOIP call on other wifi networks other than my house, so I don't know if this is because something is wrong with my equipment at home.  VOIP call on 3G network when wifi is not available doesn't have any problem.
I have a AT&T iphone4 on 4.3.2, wifi is through a Linksys router (g i think), I'm also using an AT&T microcell that 70% of the time doesn't even show up on my iphone.  Thanks!

I have the same issue with my Iphone4, never had this with my Iphone 3gs.  I have tried a different router (I have a d-link and a netgear) and no difference.  I read on another forum that bluetooth might interfere.  Yesterday I ran a test and after I turn bluetooth off I did not have any dropped Skype calls.  before this my Skype call would drop or I would have a really bad connection about 8min or so into the call.  I think this is because the iphone will start up bluetooth and it interferes with wifi.  I am not 100% sure this cures the problem but it might.

  • IPhone drops Wifi?

I've noticed that my iPhone will be connected for a while to my WPA-encrypted Wifi network, and then it will switch back to EDGE. However, after a while, it will reconnect. Is this possibly due to network interference? (I can see that there are other networks on the same channel 6). My PowerBook G4 doesn't seem to drop the connection, though.
To be expected? I've reset all settings and done a soft reset.

I had the same issue with my 2.0 upgrade, i.e., every time the handset went to idle/dimmed the display, when I unlocked the display it had reverted back to EDGE and I had to manually reconnect to my LinkSys router. I had NEVER had any issue with older 1.x firmware revisions.
I "fixed" the issue by whacking everything on the iPhone, used iTunes "Restore" utility to re-install the 2.0 firmware without dropping the backup the automated upgrade made from when I started with the 1.1.4 software. I then manually resynced all the data I wanted to the "clean" 2.0 install and the WiFi issue (along with some others, like disappearing downloaded apps) was resolved.

  • MacBook Pro and iPhone 4S Repeatedly drop WiFi

First off I didn't know what category to put this question in because it really is AirPort, MacBook Pro, and iPhone 4S at once.
So I have a different home network setup than most, I have 2 routers on my network. Now before you start pointing fingers, all other devices work perfectly on it. I have two Netgear WNDR3300s, only one is DHCP, UPnP, NAT, etc... And they have separate channels. My family members' iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPod 4, and iPad Mini, all work perfectly on this network at a blazing 20Mbps (Tested using Ookla's SpeedTest Website and iOS App). My iPhone 4S and MacBook Pro continuously drop the wifi signal at random times and I am no more than 5 feet from the nearest router. Here are the details in a less condensed form...
    Network:
    Cable Modem Arris TG722
    v
    Cat 5e Cable
    v
Router 1 (DHCP, NAT, UPnP, Channels 6g and 157n) Netgear WNDR3300 DualBand Router
    v
Cat 5e Cable (Connected to 1 of the 4 LAN ports on BOTH routers)
    v
Router 2 (No DHCP, No NAT, No UPnP, Channels 11g and 149n) Netgear WNDR3300 DualBand Router
    v
    MacBook Pro
    iPhone 4S
    MacBook Pro
    - Mid 2010
    - 13 Inch
    - OSX: 10.8.5
    - Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    - Memory: 8GB 1067MHz DDR3
    iPhone 4S
    - Bought about 3 months after release
    - Condition: Like New
    Routers
    Netgear WNDR3300
    Firmware up to date
    Non-interfereing channels
    Connected via CAT-5e
DCHP, NAT, UPnP only on one.
Something to note is that I do have AirPlay on my network passing through a first gen AirPort Express and second gen Apple TV on an Ethernet CAT-5e connection. I most often drop wifi when streaming to the AirPort Express, however it also occurs at other times. The devices do drop it randomly however, I was streaming music and it dropped 3 hours in when I did nothing.
I consider myself very tech savvy, of course that is opinionated. At this point I am clueless because of the randomness of the connection refusal and how all other devices are ok.
Not sure if I mentioned it but if I try to recconect to the netowkr after it drops it either says "Timed out" on Mac or "Unable to connect" on iPhone.
I am so confused now... If you have any ideas please let me know!
P.S. The two devices operate much better on my network when it only has one router, but I must have 2 for the range and versatility.
If any more information is needed please let me know.

I upgraded to OSX Mavericks and I am still having the same problem on both devices. It is occuring more and more often to the point where I almost broke something .
Something weird to note is that every time it drops, I will try to reconnect. When I do so, it says failiure still, but the new window on Mavericks has the diagnostics button. As soon as I hit that button the wifi jumps right back, working perfectly. (Of course then I will lose it 5 minutes later).
If anyone has any ideas please let me know!!!

  • IPhone 3G WiFi Dropping, Signal Stength Still High, Extreme and DHCP?

I've been having problems with my iPhone 3G WiFi (I had the same with my First Gen iPhone too), where it lost the ability to connect to the Internet, although the WiFi connection was still active and showing full signal.
A reset of the Extreme and a various combination of resetting network settings / forgetting network / renewing DHCP Lease etc on the iPhone normally gets it going again, but not something you want to do every 30 minutes !
My Extreme is connected to a NetGear DG824M ADSL Wireless router, that I used before I had the Extreme (bought for a longer range and the 'n' spec so quicker wi-fi moving files around in the house, to Apple TV etc).
The NetGear's Wi-Fi is off, and the Extreme is working in Bridge Mode. I can get Internet connectivity with all devices with either the NetGear DHCP option on or off. I've tried tying DHCP addresses to the respective Mac addresses.
I've read elsewhere that the Extreme should be serving DHCP for the rid the iPhone of this issue, but cannot set this up. I must admit to being a bit confused over the basics here.
My ADSL Connection is with BT, and therefore I believe PPPoA (?) which requires a username / password.
Any help in setting this up, and indeed if this could even be the issue with the iPhone dropping much appreciated. I've searched every forum posting here on on each Mac site for months without any joy !
    Thanks

If the problem appears to be isolated to only your AirPort Extreme, in other words it doesn't happen while connected to other Wi-Fi networks, a "hard reset" is justified:
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then gently press and hold its tiny reset button. Don't apply any more force than required to feel a tactile click. Keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • TS1398 why does iPhone 5 keep on dropping wifi connection?

I went to the apple store today and have received a *new* iPhone 5 to replace my faulty iPhone 5. my previous phone kept on either not detecting wifi, being unable to connect or continually dropping wifi signal despite being in range. replacement appears to be behaving exactly the same. I have an iPad, and two iPhone 3 that have no issues at all with the same wifi access points. can anybody offer any advice on why wifi is so poor on iPhone 5? thanks.

I have tried resetting everything and it makes no difference. Problem is same in different locations. Apple store verified problem which is why they exchanged phone for new model but wifi is still poor and drops frequently even though the iPhone 3GS in the family work perfectly on same access points.

  • Ipad 3 drops wifi, iphone 4s next bto ipad with no problems, any ideas?

ipad 3 drops wifi and goes to lte, iphone has good signal, any ideas?

Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Networks
Then tap the Home button to close the Settings app. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1update

Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1 update, it worked perfectly before, my wifes 3gs connects fine and stays connected while my £400 paperweight losses connection, thinking of going back to nokia! Sort it out apple!

If the "oh so Great Apple" were to monitor these forums then they might see all the problems
that the people who have paid good money for their devices are having, i suppose they can do no wrong
In your eyes, i just thought that if you pay a lot of money for a product that works fine, and you update
It with a firmware update that they kept going on about how good it was and it can do this and it can
Do that, then i think they should sort it out. I don't care if i "don't deserve to be an apple owner" or not,
The fact is i paid my money and it should do what its suppose to do, i moved from Nokia to Apple because
The N97 was crap and i put up with it for too long, and they didn't do anything to fix the bugs they just stopped
Selling it and basically said tough s**t, so now this is happened i hoped Apple whould be better but they seem
To be just like the rest.

  • IPhone 4S with iOs 8 dropping wifi when unlocking the device

    Hi,
my iPhone 4S with iOs 8 (8.1.3) is often dropping the wifi connection when unlocking the device. This started to happen only with iOs 8, iOs 7 was just fine.
When unlocking the device after at least 2 minutes of inactivity, it seems to be weekly connected on the wireless network but then it drops the connection and reconnects back again at full power. This happens:
    - really, really often, but not always;
    - with any access point I tried (different wireless chipsets), both on DHCP and static addressing
    - with any wireless channel
    - both on 802.11g and 802.11n
    - rebooting the devices sometimes temporary fixes the problem (for 12-24 hours), sometimes it doesn't
    - restoring the firmware in DFU mode didn't help, neither did resetting all settings and restoring as new device.
I really don't know how to fix this, I can't find anyone else having this problem on the Internet.
Here's a video showing the problem:
    http://youtu.be/4ua9CPzKBfQ
    Thank you.

Started happening to me on my IP5 with ios 8, on public & private wifi, completely random and was really frustrating, I forked out for a IP6 128gb and was ok but its started to happen again so it must be an IOS8 issue. The unit keeps dropping wifi and asking for passwords it knows, ignores your input then comes back by itsself after a few minutes
To be honest Apple should be disgusted with themselves. The phone is pointless without wifi and if this is the solution it will not work as you cannot go to every router everywhere you go. $700 is a lot of cash for a useless bit of kit.

Just connect with finder and drag&drop files one at a time and everything is fine, but when you select more files and try to copy them to iphone together Leopard completely freeze. Totally. You cannot force quit finder, cannot run activity monitor, cannot kill finder in terminal or even restart the computer. Just shut down with holding the power button...
