Iphone identity confusion

My wife and I both have iPhones. My wife is not at all technical, so I set her phone up and logged it into my iTunes account. Everything has been working all right for quite a while. However, now I have discovered that when I look in the Contacts on my iPhone, it says next to my wife's name "me". When our daughter wants to reply to an SMS from my wife, I receive the SMS. When our daughter calls my wife on Facetime, it rings on my iPhone.
I do not see in my iPhone settings anything that would explain this. I also cannot see in the Contacts why my wife is identified as me.
Thanks for any help in this.

That happens because both of you are using the same Apple ID.  Your wife needs her own Apple ID to use for iCloud syncing, iMessage and FaceTime.
She can continue to use (if this is what you want), your Apple ID for iTunes and the AppStore, so that both of you can continue to enjoy the same music and apps, specially those that you have to pay for.

  • Hiding iPhone identity from Exchange server

My company has recently decided to ban the use of all Iphones in the company environment. My question is, if it is possible to hide iPhone identity for the Exchange server or to fake it would be a Blackberry?

There are ways around this, it probably depends on what they mean by "ban" and the reason they are doing it. Do they mean they won't actually support it with their IT staff? Or do they mean they will fire your butt if they see you connecting with an iPhone? Because there is a mobile device management tool for ActiveSync that displays the device name and address, so they will know. They can, from the server, unpair your device, meaning it won't be allowed to connect.
If, on the other hand, they mean they simply won't help support the device, then you can probably manage on your own--in our organization the iPhone has been the most trouble free of any ActiveSync device.
One option is to try and use your company webmail address if they have one. Try using Safari to visit and read your mail. Kludgy, probably slow, and a pain in the *** but might work for occasional use.

  • IPhone 5 confusing Wi-Fi data with Cellular?

I bought my iPhone 5 just a few hours ago. When it was set-up, naturally it used 4G to access the Internet. Once I got home, I connected to my home Wi-Fi.
It is my understanding that the iPhone will always prefer Wi-Fi to 3G or 4G. Plus, the entire night while I used it, I never saw anything other than the WiFi symbol in the corner.
I got a text message from Verizon saying that I had used 75% of my allowed data. (2GB on the plan, but it is prorated) I checked MyVerizon, and it said I had used 427 MB of Cellular Data!! I clicked a link to open a detailed chart, which informed me of only four instances of Cellular data, which totaled up at 1.8 MB. This is a number that makes sense.
So I turned off Cell Data entirely, but left the Wi-Fi on, and continued to download videos from YouTube. Moments later, I got another text from Verizon saying I had used all my prorated data! I checked and Cellular Data was still off! The note even said "With this turned off, all data will be restricted to Wi-Fi"! So I clearly didn't use Cell data, but Verizon thought that I did! Now I'm over my limit and possibly in huge trouble.
The figures given seem consistent with my overall usage, though 99% of this usage was on Wi-Fi. I would stake my life on that fact. No joke. Is it possible that my Wi-Fi data is somehow being confused with Cell Data, even though it's turned off?
In the morning, I'm going to visit the store that I bought it from. However, any info that you guys can give me would really help.
    Thanks.

I am having the same issue. I am going to call Verizon this morning. We purchased two new phones and only used them on LTE for about an hour while we went to dinner. All the other time we were in our house with WiFi indicated on the phone. I checked by usage after finding this post, 318 MB used on the new Verizon shared data plan. Each phone used over 150 MB. The only thing we were doing was surfing the internet and sending iMessages while we were at dinner. I looked back at the items that I was doing in the house and I remember after activating the phones and doing a backup that each phone had about 40 apps that needed updated. I believe that 150 MB per phone was due to this period of time.
This is a great example of Apple and Verizon not informing the consumer of a money making feature on the new phone. Verizon promoted the shared data plan to me in the fact that by using WiFi when available would mitigate any overage on data. Apple doesn't inform the consumer that there is a cellular over WiFi feature as there was on the Beta version. I sure hope this gets fixed because I have only once in the last two years ever used 150 MB of data in a single day. We normally only use 1.5 GB in a billing cycle. UGH!!

  • Iphone 5 confused battery or not

At one time I was convinced that my iPhone 5 had a defective battery, but some events have definitely confused me so I am here to ask the experts what they think.
I was going to send my phone in for service (battery service) the day I go in for surgery since I won't need a phone for a few days.  Something very strange has happened to my phone, though.  It got almost worthless for 3 days.  My phone was getting about 2 hours of usage time to get down to 40% battery.  At this point my phone would shut down, and wouldn't turn on until I charged it.  It would show the charging symbol when I tried to turn it on.  After 3 days of this annoying behavior, something changed.  My next charge lasted 5.5 hours of actual usage which I consider pretty decent for a 1.5 year old phone.  It has lasted for at least 5 hours of actual usage ever since.  I know that batteries can't rejuvinate themselves so I am wondering what is going on.  Does anyone have any ideas.
It might sound looney, but I was almost wondering if the government was hacking my phone and causing my phone to loose battery.  Maybe they finally got bored and now my battery is fine.  I think I am kidding about this, but I can't understand the events that have happened with my phone.

More likely it was some app calling home in the background or you being in an area of poor cell coverage that was causing battery loss. If it seems to have corrected itself - I would just wait and watch
    OR
Chat with Apple support - they can run a remote diagnostic and see what is up with your battery

  • IPhone Provisioning confusion?

    Hi
I've recently paid to get the iPhone developer certificate and I'm a bit confused about the many jargon terms, all of which seem related to giving me permission to build iPhone apps.
Can anybody explain in plain English the difference between the
    •Profile
•AppID ... which seems to be both a text string I chose, and a 10 digit code which I didn't
    •Certificate Name
•Profile Identifier (a long code string)
I have read about this many times on iphone provisioning portal, but I just can't understand which is which.
AppID: presumably this is an ID for a specific app? Does this mean I have to get a new one every time I write a new app? What about if I'm just writing test apps for my own use that I'm not putting on the store?
It says in the organizer that my profile expires in 3 months time. I paid for a year, so should I be worried about this?
Fianally, when I make an xcode project, I get this set as a Bundle Identifier:
com.yourcompany.${PRODUCT_NAME:*****identifier} (I put the asterix there because I don't even know if those digits are 'mine'!) Does this seem correct?
Thanks for any light anyone can shed on any of these topics.
    Steve

I believe that when you see a date of 04/01/1978 it is what they call a "AS IS" and was sold in a large lot to a vendor. I got one from a seller in NY and when I called in for support that is what I was told. Apple will not support this phone. They said that I would need to get support from the seller. last time I ever buy a phone on ebay lesson learned.

  • Iphone identity switch!

Accidentally -- I was just trying to load music from my iTunes onto my iPhone -- I switched the identity of my iPhone to my daughter's ... although it is still my phone number, it now has all her settings, apps, contact info, etc.
(What happened is that when I hooked my iPhone up with my Mac, it said the phone was not identified, and it gave me two choices to sync with -- hers or mine. The reason I chose hers is that my phone actually had been stolen while on vacation, not in my posession anymore, and I am using her old phone now although of course with my original phone number on it. I assumed all my info was in the account that was under her name, and I was afraid to mess with the account that actually had my name because I didn't want to do any syncing with a stolen phone at this point.)
Anyway, that's just an excuse for what I did. Now I just want to know how I can get back my own settings and info onto my (aka, my daughter's old )  iPhone! Help!

Assuming you still have a backup of your old phone you can erase the phone and start over, this time restoring to the correct backup of your old phone.  First open iTunes on your computer and go to preferences.  On the Devices tab is a list of available backups.  Hover your mouse over them to reveal the phone number, serial number and IMEI number of the phone that the backup represents.  Identify which one is the correct one for your old phone.  Then do the following:
Go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase the phone.
Go through the activation assistant screens on the phone to reactivate it.
During this process you will be given the option to Restore from iTunes Backup (see image below).  Select this and choose the backup of your old phone (as identified earlier) to restore from.

  • IPhone Purchase Confusion

I bought an Iphone 5 from a seller in Hong Kong on eBay (which I now regret) who had claimed that the iphone was factory unlocked. It wasn't, because I tried activating it at my local Sprint & AT&T Store and failed. I am SIM locked out of my phone because no SIM card I have tried works. I did a test using my phone's serial number and found that the carrier was Sprint (??). It said this:
    Serial Number: F17JC9DXF8GH
    Part Description: AS-IS, IPHONE 5, BLACK, 16GB-USA
    IMEI Number: 990002243113022

    Bluetooth MAC Address: 98:fe:94:15:7d:6d

I don't know what to do to even access my phone since Sprint doesn't sell SIM Cards for me to unlock. If I go to an Apple store will they be able to reset my iPhone or atleast tell me what my carrier is? Because according to the test it said Verizon was the initial carrier..and it apparently was also registered somehow in 1978.

  • Iphone 4 confusion with Find my Iphone. Need help!

I bought my sister an Iphone 4 from Craigslist a couple days ago. Today someone knocked on our door asking if we had just gotten an iPhone 4, saying theres was stolen. The person said they used Find My Iphone to track it here. I'm just wondering since i restored the iPhone can someone still use "Find my Iphone" to locate it? Or use it's last location when it was on? If this phone was actually stolen i want to give it back but if its just the person's friend making a story up obviously i dont want to give it to them.
    Thanks

Don't trust this person. I previously had an iPhone 4. When I log in to Find my iPhone it still shows up but "No Location Available" because the new owner entered their own Apple ID to block me access.

  • Confused iPhone wi-fi syncing to two iTunes libraries

My iPhone is confused. It is syncing to two different computers. I have always had it synced to my home MacBook, and only charge it via USB during work on a Windows7 computer. Never a problem in three years. Now with ios5 and iTunes 10.5, after setting up automatic wi-fi syncing with the Macbook at home, I now see that it is also set-up to auto-sync with my work windows computer. On the iPhone, both computers are individually listed in the Settings/General/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, and I can sync to both and get no warnings, etc. Funny, the windows computer does not have wi-fi capabilities, but when I do connect it via cable to charge, i can initiate and complete a wi-fi sync. There are no apps at all on that iTunes. What is it syncing?
Also, I never had music on my phone before, and I tried to add a few albums from my home iTunes library yesterday. When I pressed sync, iTunes said the phone was synced to another iTunes library. To continue, it would erase my iPhone completely and load everything from that computer. But, that's where all of the content came from in the first place!
How do I remove the windows work computer from the Settings/General/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync page so only my home MacBook is listed, and clear up all the confusion my iPhone is having?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
    I have the same problem.
I have 2 sync profiles for just the same Imac.
The top profile is syncing correctly, only that profile is missing Podcasts and iTunes U.
The profile bellow will not sync and that one got Podcasts and iTunes U in it.
Can i combine the 2 profiles or can i remove the inactive one and get the other profile syncing Podcasts and iTunes U too?
    Thanks.

  • Syncing contacts with iPhone misses one number

Syncing iTunes 11.4 (18) under MacOS 10.8.6 on my MBPro, with my iPhone 5c using iOS 8.1.2 leaves one (at least) phone number unsynced.
A new contact phoned me, so I put his number into Contacts on my iPhone.  Later, he emailed me his physical address, so I put it into Address Book.
Then, I plugged in my iPhone and synced.  His physical address got moved to contacts, but his phone number did not get moved to Address Book.
I have synced several times again.  I get no anomalies during the sync process, but his phone number remains only on my iPhone, and not in Address Book.
    I tried Quitting Address Book,
Then launching iSync -> Preferences -> Reset Sync History -> ("Are you sure...?) -> Reset Sync History -> (button got dimmed).
Then iSync -> Sync Devices -> (no messages.) -> Quit.
Then Launching Address Book. -- no help.
    Then Quitting Address Book,
    Quitting iTunes,
Launching iTunes -> iPhone -> sync -- finish.
Then launch Address Book -- No help.
Still no phone number for him in Address book although there is a phone number for him in Contacts.
iTunes -> Gil's iPhone -> Info -> Sync Contacts is checked, All contacts is selected.
iPhone -> Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> iCloud -> Contacts = Off
    Any ideas?
One oddity is that this iPhone 5c is my third iPhone to be attached to this particular computer's iTunes.  All three of them have been named "Gil's iPhone".  Maybe the identical name for different iPhones is confusing iTunes?  How could I research/change that?
    --Gil

OK.  I found it.  Cockpit error.
On my iPhone, Phone -> Recents -> "i"circle -> shows what looks like a Contacts record with address and phone number.
However, Contacts -> theName -> shows a real Contacts record with address, but no phone number.
I didn't realize I had to transfer the phone number to the Contacts data base.  (It still seems odd. I created the contact record from the phone number somehow.  Maybe something in that process didn't work properly.)
BTW,... How do you transfer a phone number to the Contacts data base?  (Drag across, copy, switch to Contacts, Edit, Paste works.  Is that it?)
I then added email address to Address Book and Synced again -- worked as expected.  Phone number was copied to Address Book and email address was copied to Contacts.  All is well.
    A little confused, is all.

  • Iphone 4s voice to text failure

SIRI is working. Voice to text for test messages and email is not. Purple dots spin and spin and then stop. I am AT+T. I see some evidence that others have this issue but no evidence yet that Apple is aware/addressing. Anyone know more?

    Two things to consider:
    1) Voice recognition occurs through Apple's servers and not in the iphone itself. There have been occasions, albeit rare, where everyone using the 4s experiences this lack of voice recognition problem. We have learned that in those instances where the problem is broad based it is because Apple is having a problem with their servers. The problem is not your phone! In the past, Apple has usually "solved" the server problem within several hours to a day.
    2) If the problem is specific to your phone alone, one tip offered by Apple support is:
    * bring up the shortcut screen (double click home button twice)
    * hold the message icon button till it wiggles
    * then tap the home screen again.
This procedure may reset the voice recognition. Support says that sometimes the iphone gets confused and needs a "nudge".
    Hope this helps.

  • HT204053 I created a different Apple ID for Icloud on my new IPhone and having problems with getting Itunes, etc.  How do I change my Icloud Apple ID to be the same ID and password?

I created a different Apple ID for my Icloud on my new IPhone (said a free email was available or something similar) rather than the other choice offered of using my same existing Apple ID.  Now I keep having issues accessing my account and my password isn't working to access Icloud to download Itunes.  Can I undo this new account I created and just use my one existing Apple ID?  This is my first IPhone and confused with this part of the setup!  Thanks.

If you know the answers to your security questions, you should be able to change your password without using email authentication (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HE36).  If you don't, you may be out of luck.
