Iphone, Ipod Touch - Send tunes to Airport Express with Airtunes

Does anyone know if they plan to update the iphone firmware with the ability to send your itunes music straight to your airport express with airtunes bass station. It really seems like a no brainer to me that this be added!

No one here knows if Apple has any plans to include this option with a future update, but this would drain the iPhone's battery in a very short period of time.

I can't find an option for it on my iPod, but don't rule it out.
    Apple may be working something.

If Airplay is avaialble on your iPod Touch and it should be, and your AE is connected to a stereo system or to some speakers, yes.

  • Airport Express with Airtunes help!

I'm new to the wireless world so my question is why would I get the blinking yellow light on my Airport Express with Airtunes even when I'm within 5 feet of my G4 that has a airport card installed (802.11B). I also tried putting it in the living room which is one floor down and got the same thing.
I updated the firmware for the Airport Express with Airtunes but have not updated the airport card in the G4 because I'm unsure at the apple download site which software to download.
System profiler reports the airport card is 9.52 firmware version.
So is this what I update to: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120097
The music is only cutting out from time to time but I would still like to see a green light on the Airport Express, its odd that it blinks yellow stating that I have a weak connection.
I'm not sure updating the firmware will help the weak signal, I used the airport utility to setup the Airtunes, but maybe there is a different way to configure the network to make it stronger, like I said I'm totally new to this stuff.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The blinking light doesn't indicate a weak wireless signal, it indicates that you do not have an internet connection established.
Are you using the AE for music streaming without an internet connection?
Haven't tried this myself, but it might eliminate the blinking light:
    1. Open Airport Admin Utility and double click your AE to open the configuration.
    2. Select the Internet tab.
    3. Set to configure manually and enter:
    IP address: 192.168.1.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router Address 192.168.1.1
    DNS servers 192.168.1.1
If this doesn't work, there probably isn't much you can do except establish a good connection to another router to get the light to turn green. The above numbers shouldn't be terribly important either since you are just trying to get the Airport to think it has an established connection.

  • Apple AirPort Express with Airtunes and Netgear WPN824v2 Router

I'm having some trouble getting the AirPort Express with Airtunes to connect to a Netgear WPN824v2 network.
    Details:
    - Router: Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824v2
    - Wireless Network Security: WEP
    - Computer: MacBook Pro
    - OS: OS X 10.4.10
    - AirPort card in computer: this works fine - no problems
    - AirPort Express with Airtunes: the setup routine goes OK, but then the unit cannot connect to the wireless network; the light blinks amber.
Could the problem relate to the password (Hex versus ASCII) or perhaps WEP versus WPA?
Any / all suggestions welcome. Thanks.

sonicdubster, Welcome to the discussion area!
Are you following the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode?
Is the AirPort Express (AX) placed in an area where it can receive a good wireless signal from the Netgear?
Does the AX connect if you disable wireless encryption?
WPA (or WPA2) is much more secure and less troublesome than WEP. If all of your equipment supports WPA, I would switch to WPA.

  • Sending tunes to Airport Express via iPod touch?

I use Aiport, Airport Express and itunes to send music wirelessly from to my speakers from both my iMac work station and my MacBook..... But what about my iPod Touch. ? My iPod touch wifi picks up the Airport Express signal and connects. But can the iPodTouch send the music to my Airport Express network, too? If so, how do I do it. How do it tell it to send the music to the Express wireless network? Right now, as I said, the Touch picks up the Express signal but the music still goes to the pin output (earphone jack) -- not to the Express network. -- David

Currently there is no way to do this.

  • IPod Touch auto connect to airport express network

Okay, I just got my Airport Express up and running. Seems fairly easy to work with.
Is there a way to set up Airport to have it automatically recognize and accept a connection attempt from my iPod Touch...or from any other computer that it may 'know?'
Right now, when I want my iPod Touch to connect to my network, I have to manually enter network name (because it's hidden) and password. Can I enter hardware name someplace in Airport Utility? I notice iPod has a blank 'Client ID' field. Can I enter something there and have the network recognize that ID?
I'm relatively new to all this. Thanks in advance.

You might consider "unhiding" your network so that your devices will remember the network.
Any of the many simple utilities available on the internet will find your network in seconds, so while hiding it may keep a few honest folks from seeing it, the guys to be concerned about can "see" you anytime they want.
The best security would be WPA2 Personal with a strong, non-dictionary password.

  • Can I use Airport Express's Airtunes with a non-Apple modem/router?

I am about to set up a network in our second home, so I am trying to do it as economically as possible. I will have a Verizon modem/router. The Verizon rep says the Verizon equipment is all I need for a computer network (no Airport Extreme Base Station needed). But I would also like to play music on Internet radio stations through iTunes on my Cambridge Soundworks system in a room that is different from the one where the Verizon modem/router will be. Can I purchase an Airport Express with Airtunes to plug in near the music system without also getting an Airport Extreme Base Station to which the Airport Express would be linked? If it is possible to go with just the AE, is it foolish to avoid getting the base station if I would also like to have wireless printing on my network? (I believe I would need the Airport Extreme Base Station for printing because it has the USB port.)

The Airport Express will do what you want in addition to printing if your printer is compatible as it does have a USB port. Just configure the Express to "join" the wireless network that the Verizon router is creating.
You will be able to stream AirTunes to the AirPort Express, which in turn will furnish an audio signal to your stereo system.
If you want to be able to stream any audio source from your computer to the AirPort Express...not just iTunes audio sources...you might want to take a look at Airfoil.

  • Airport express with wired network

    Hello,
I am looking to play my itunes library through my receiver in my living room. There is an ethernet connection there. My mainMac is in another room, also connected to the network. Can I just connect the airport express with airtunes to an outlet in the living room with the ethernet wire into it? (and then the receiver connected to the audio out, of course) My mainMac does not have a wireless card.
I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

ok, so I bought the AX because it seems that I should be able to do what I want. I plugged it into my network, but when Airport Admin Utility tries to scan for AX, nothing shows up. Any clues?
    Thanks,
    Mario

  • AIRPORT EXRESS with airtunes - MAC MINI RECEPTION

    HI MAC BOFFS,
I have just managed to configure a an airport express with airtunes, and managed to get it on the network, but music keeps dropping from the remote speakers. When i get sound it is excellent quality but only for a few seconds.
I have noticed that my reception bar on the top rights does fluctuate and at best is half (and has always) but for internet purposes it never bothered me.
The appartment is stud walls and i have put the router on ch 1 if this helps.:(
Is there anything i should do?
    thank you.
    i sot

    1) The Mac Mini doesn't have great wireless reception. Try experimenting with the Mac mini in the same room to make sure that it is indeed the reception causing your headache. If it is, there are some Mac Mini wireless reception hacks on the 'net.
    2) Are you in an apartment? It is possible that there are many wireless networks around from your neighbors and if they are unencrypted your Mac / AE may be hopping between different networks.

  • Can I use the airport express with a desktop computer that is not wire less- I want to have wifi in the house for an iphone

Can i use the airport express with a desktop computer not wifi- I want wifi for my iphone

I can't seem to find any information anywhere.  It seems like it should work since the AX is showing up on his wifi settings on both his iPhone and iPod.  Not to mention the Apple "Genius" told him that it should work.  However, they also told him that it came with an ethernet, USB and the stereo patch cables...

  • Playing music via airport express with bair tunes???

hi all im thinking of buying an airport express with air tunes. what i would like to know is can i link the airport directly to speakers and play music using my iphone and not have to have my computer on??? or do i have to run it through the itunes on my laptop?? ps i do have the remote app on my iphone any help greatly appreciated. thank u

It runs through itunes on your computer. You use the remote app to control through itunes. Itunes needs to be running. Works great, I use it all the time.

  • Iphone/ Ipod touch Ideas

On the iphone/ipod touch 5 you guys should let the iphone/ipod touch rotate 360 degrees instead of just two ways: portrait and the other, also the ability to control it. so now when people are doing something laying down in a usual position and the iphone/ipod touch is slanted it wont turn in a way where it is bad. so now in that circle you could have the option to turn up all the time or not.

  • Apple Unveils All-New iTunes U App for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch

A colleague just told me about this announcement from Apple -
Apple Unveils All-New iTunes U App for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch -
    http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2012/01/19Apple-Unveils-All-New-iTunes-U-App-for -iPad-iPhone-iPod-touch.html
Do any fellow iTunes U administrators know anything about this? How is existing content presented in the new app? Would we need to change anything? How do we access / make available the new features?
The new features sound fantastic but it would have been nice to have some warning. I appreciate that Apple has to keep specific details about developments confidential but it's slightly disconcerting that iTunes U administrators were not forewarned about this new development and that there has been no mention of it on this forum. Also - and at the risk of sounding like a broken record - it really would be helpful for iTunes U administrators to have a private forum (perhaps an add-on to Public Site Manager) where we could discuss issues and share ideas and best practice etc.

    Greetings Tom;
I watched the Apple's Keynote presentation and I'm amazed!  I'm really excited about the possibilities this opens up for educators.  I, like you am still processing all of the information and sorting out the possibilities.
Did you get the email about the Webcast on Wednesday the 25th at 10:00 AM PT that's going to cover the new iTunes U Corse Manager and how to publish through iTunes U Site Manager?  Hopefully this is available to you in the UK.  We'll keep in touch.  All the best...

  • Can I use my iPhone hotspot for internet through the airport express?

I want to use the airport express with the internet from my iPhone hotspot without a regular ISP

You may be having problems with your battery. However, they were not caused by using your iPad charger. The iPad charger is compatible with the iPhone and can safely be used with it. If your phone is less than a year old, you may want to take it to your nearest Apple Store and have them take a look at it. If the battery is not functioning correctly, they will replace it for you.
