IPhone loses cell signal after sitting idle

My iPhone will lose the signal bars when sitting idle for a period of time. After shutting down the power and restarting the bars come back. Any recommendations?

No recommendations, but I've been experiencing the exact same problem for about a month now.
It's also interesting that after I reset the iphone I get a message on itunes asking me to send my crash information to Apple!

  • Low cell signal After upgrade to IOS 5.1.1 to my iphone 4

After upgrading my iphone 4 to IOS 5.1.1 ,my cell signal becomes very low and after some time it shows no service.

Do you know if your "Cell Network Search" under "Location Services" is on or off. I have been struggling with the same issue, on and off and this is one of the settings I have changed recently.

  • Won't print after sitting idle for a while

Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. I have to turn the printer off and back on after it sits idle for a while. The printer shows on line in the control panel until you try to print then it goes off line. Wireless network Windows 7.

Hello LARMC, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing idle issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • X200 lockups after sitting idle

I have a x200 that lockups when sitting idle for a while. I have the computer not set to go to sleep only turn the monitor off when on AC power.
It is running Windows Vista Business.
    Please help.

Possibly I've got the same problem on my X200. Here are the descriptions:
    System config:
Thinkpad X200 (with 2G original DDR3, 5100agn, bluetooth, fingerprint reader, integrated camera. WITHOUT turbo memory.)
    Windows XP SP3
With all drivers and necessary softwares downloaded and installed from official source (most of them using System Update).
    Hibernation is on.
Screensaver is on (e.g., 5 minutes).
Password on resume from screensaver is on.
And the problem is like this: when I leave the machine idle for 5 minutes or more, then it enters screensaver. Then I come to the machine to enter, and the problem comes:
If it's the first time that I want to return from screensaver since system startup, the screen will show nothing but the system wallpaper and a mouse pointer. Yes, only wall paper, no logon window, no taskbar, even no task manager after Ctrl-Alt-Del. BUT, after 2 minutes or so, the logon window would appear. I can return to the desktop by either password or fingerprint.
However, if it's not the first time that I return to desktop from screensaver, such problem won't occur. I wonder what the problem is, and whether it's the same one that wreed encountered. I tried to disable and enable hibernation, disable or enable the fingerprint reader, but none worked. All the drivers and software are official...
PS, the machine comes with another problem: after hours of use, when I shutdown the machine, winlogon.exe would report an error, and then bluescreen and reboot. I'll try to catch the detailed information and post another post here.

  • IPhone loses edge signal when waking from sleep, E is still present

For some reason, when I put my phone into sleep mode and then wake it a short time later, I lose my edge signal. Checking email or looking online results in the "cannot find server" error, yet the edge "E" in the top left corner is still there. This problem only occurs about 25% of the time, but when it does happen, it requires me to turn the phone off and on again to regain the connection.
Any information regarding this frustrating issue would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • AppleTV loses video output after sitting and has to be power cycled

I have a strange problem. When I switch back to the AppleTV after having been watching regular TV or any other activity on my entertainment system, I often come back to no video from the AppleTV or it is on the resolution selection screen. If it is on the resolution selection, and I select 1080i, the sound of the startup animation happens, but no video. Either way, I have to unplug the AppleTV and let it start again to get video back. The same is when it starts up and it has no video at all.
Last night it just sat there for a long time with the Apple logo in the middle of the screen and did nothing else... I had to pull the plug to get it to restart.
Do I have a bad unit? I am using Harmony Remote, and I am wondering if it might be sending something that is confusing the AppleTV.
How safe is it to unplug it a few times a day? I can't imagine that it would be a good thing.
Windows XP   Sony DGB800 Audio Receiver - Mitsubishi 65" DLP TV

No Samsung. I have a Mitsubishi 65" DLP rear projection. I would lean toward it not being the problem because sometimes I get video (just the apple logo) and nothing else and sometimes no video at all. When I get the apple logo, it won't respond to any remote stuff, even though the light is white/blue, rather than orange, indicating startup. It will sit on the apple logo indefinitely.
I have tried switching inputs on the TV when I have no video, and it still didn't help. Rebooting the AppleTV fixes the problem. I've unplugged the hdmi cable and plugged it back in and still no help.
It's just odd. It feels broken/unhappy. It's only a week old and this is the only problem so far. I love it but this one issue is really aggravating me. I'm worried about power cycling so much (at all).
I appreciate any help. Should I take it back to the Apple store and get a new one?

  • FCP Freezes after sitting idle then coming back to it

About a month ago, I reformatted my hard drive on my macbook pro and did a clean install of my FCP software (v6). I also got a new external hard drive (Seagate Freeagent Desk for Mac 2 TB, FW800) where I keep all my footage I'm working with. Since then, I've started experiencing a problem I've never had before... often I'll have FCP open, then open up a browser window to write emails or whatever. But then when I try to go back to FCP, it freezes and I get the spinning beachball. From that point, I have to force restart the computer to re-open FCP, because FCP won't fully quit once that's happened. If I just force quit, it goes away from the screen, but the dot on the dock is still there, and it won't reopen.
This definitely only started happening after I reformatted my HD, but I also got the the new hard drive at the same time... I thought at first it was the Hard Drive not waking up, but I returned the HD for a new one, and it's still doing it. So based on that, it seems like it must be an issue with the macbook. Weird thing is though... it doesn't seem to happen when older hard drives are plugged in, ones that I had before I reformatted my hard drive.
No idea what to do at this point...

I agree, sounds like disc sleeping problems with that drive, found this in a quick search

  • Iphone loses pairing record after sync

A few days ago I had to resotre my Iphone. It was working fine until just now. I synced my Iphone a few times then I noticed that space for other went from 193.3MB to 18.6 MB. I knew this couldn't be right. Then when I disconnected my phone and plugged it back in, it said "Itunes could not connect to Iphone because it couldn't find the pairing record." I have to restart my computer then reconnect my phone again. I'm not sure where the problem is coming from. Can anyone help me?

    Andrew T. wrote:
This could very well be the Updates that occurred when 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 came out as well.
But your right going from 20 MB to 200 MB is a big leap. I know the OS itself well at least the package that is downloaded is a little bit over 160MB but I don't remember the OS Package being anywhere near 20MB during the 1.1.2 or even 1.1.3 package phase.
Might of been a small chance your iTunes was misreporting file size. But if you connected to any other iTunes during the 7.5 time and it looked different then that kind of rules that out.
I am sure our users on here if need be could all share any details they have on Other File Size difference between 7.5 and 7.6 But personally mine has always been at least 100MB or a bit higher.
I don't believe your theory on misreporting as it has been discussed here several times and everyone reported the same sizes as I'm speaking of. OS isn't stored in other as it's formatted into the file system. Something in iTunes is causing this and should be fixed. Oh well. At least 7.5 doesn't eat up your space.

  • AIR app seems to become unresponsive after sitting idle

I built a straight forward info kiosk using Flash AS3 and used AIR to distribute it.
The main items of the file:
Straight ahead navigation with buttons that jump to frame markers.
It has a 3 minute timer which returns it to the start page if it is not touched within that time limit.
It has several screens that display web pages in a component web browser window.
The problems I have hit: I have had the kiosk react as if the timer were set to 5 seconds and return to the home page too quickly. I have had buttons not work while others were working.
But a restart of the AIR app corrects these issues and it works fine. It worked fine in my office however I did not test it in auto mode over several days of turning on and off and running all day.
The system it is on is Windows 7. The system auto starts each morning, launches the app, then shuts down at days end.
Could there be an issue with the app being up for 8 hours a day? Does it need to refresh itself?
    Any input is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Chris,
It is AIR 3.2. If I download 3.3 will Flash Pro recognize that and update to 3.3 or do I need to do something in Flash to utilize the upgrade when publishing as AIR?
When you say "some sort of leak"? What would a leak be? I am not familiar with the term or what it implies?
Thank you for the quick response. I will reply with the result in the next few days. I will have to load it up and let it run to see what happens.
    Thank you.

  • Iphone loses signal then cannot refind it.

    Hello,
If my iphone loses its signal for any reason it cannot then refind it, unless I turn it off and then on again. This happens if I use airplane mode, or if I pass through a no-signal area (this happens frequently, unfortunately, I live in a remote place), or sometimes even if there is a brief signal interruption.
Obviously turning off and on is no great hardship, but if I don't notice then I miss calls when the signal is absent.
Is this some simple probelm to solve, or is it a tricky one? Anyone else had anything similar?

Hooray! Seems to be sorted by 5.1

  • After update 3.1 - 3G does not work after phone sits idle

Updated from 3.01 to 3.1 - went smoothly, no problems. Restored my latest backup without issue. All is good. A few minutes later I tried to make a call and it failed. I tried to access the web - failed. Rebooted phone comes up as expected. Made a call, access to web working. 10 minutes later tried to make another call - failed; access to web failed again too. Switched over to Edge, rebooted. Calls and web access work. Waited 10-15 minutes, tried again; Edge still working. Switched back to 3G, rebooted. Same issue - calls/web work initially but after a short time, all calls and web access fail. I went through the 3.1 restore process again -- started over like it was a new phone. Again, the update worked without any issues/errors. I was able to restore my backup and all was good. But, same 3G problems occurred. So just for fun, I ran the Iphone config utility and captured the console log during a phone reboot sequence. After the phone booted up calls and web access were working with 3G. Then, let the phone sit idle for a while and saw these event occur in the log; the first 5 entries were made when I successfully sent a text message. After that message was sent I let the phone sit for a while. The next couple of entries were interesting. After the 'deactivated PDP context' messages appeared I could no longer make calls or access the web with 3G. Anyone else see this?
I never ever had this problem with 3.01 software.

I thought I'd post you a quick response because you described exactly the issues I was having. After my phone was idle for a while, my iPhone would refuse to get data over 3G.
I've tested this thoroughly and I'm able to "trip up" the phone into a state where it can't download data from the 3G network. But turning airline mode on for about 30 seconds then off again resets forces a renegotiate with the cell tower/3g and everything seems to work again about a minute later.
Nothing untoward listed in the console at this point either - The PDP context that you mentioned that was deactivated was more than likely the Internet Tethering. (It's usually PDP context 1, by the looks of things).
I think I might switch off 3G and see if that helps until Apple fix this issue. It is related to the wifi issues that others have reported - As I've seen my iPhone unable to download information via 3G if wifi is turned on, but you don't connect to a wifi network. But I can't seem to reproduce this reliably.

  • IPhone 4S : no reconnect after signal lost + battery drain

Maybe my title is confusing, so here the full story :
Now... I got my new 4S for two weeks now (replacing my 3GS) and I got a very bad issue with it. When I go to my mom's house located in a deep valley where there's no cell signal at all. But just a half mile away (when you leave the valley), the signal is 100% strong. So, neighter my 3GS nor my 4S get signal (voice nor data) but that's not a suprise.
The big surprise (the issue is) : when I got visiting my mom, but 4S say "Searching for network" and the battery drain quickier, but that's not the issue and I had the same issue with the 3GS. BUT, with the 4S, when I leave my mom's house and reach the area where the signal come back (to 100%), the freakin' P.O.S. don't want to re-connect to the network and continue to say "Searching for signal". I had to shutdown the 4S, then reboot, then it work fine (100% signal). The last time I visit my mom, I notice this situation quickly because I tried to use my bluetooth handfree in the car after leaving mom's home and I saw the 4S don't see the network signal.
But yesterday I leave mom's home later by the night and I don't tried to use my 4S on the way back to my home and I go to sleep quickly after that and I just drop the 4S on my night stand and go to bed. When I was to my mom's home, last time I used my 4S was on her WiFi network (to check email), my battery was like 90% charged, and this morning when I wake up... the 4S died and took like 20 minutes on the wall charger before booting at 5% battery (COMPLETELY DRAINED!).
Did some research on the internet, but is this a common issue of the 4S ???

Oh please. The iPhone 4S supports a lot more than you would expect from a 3G phone (2G technology supported).
If you've replaced your 4S due to signal issues that can't be explained by coverage or overcapacity, there's almost very clearly a network related issue, or a widespread Hardware/Software fault due to Apple (most likely).
All non-Apple 3G phones I've used re-establish 3G communication given the best outcome when weighing Advantages vs Disadvantages when switching from GPRS or EDGE.
My iPhone 4S will sometimes switch to EDGE from 3G in an area with good 3G coverage. At the same time, my Android device still indicate a good 3G signal with the H indicator as my iPhone shows an E and in rare cases an o. Rebooting, toggling Airplane on and off, or waiting some amount of time can temporarily restore the iPhone 4S's 3G reception.
I've replaced my iPhone 4S once, and I still have 3G/EDGE/GPRS switching issues that I originally had the first time around. I have yet to try getting my sim card replaced.
I believe that most signal issues come down to a few bugs.
I did a bit of research into these signal issues and I read that Apple are working on a fix to be released in the iOS 5.1 update which you can update using your iPhone in Settings > General > Software Update.
If the iOS update is not public by the 3rd, I will be testing a developer version to find any signs of a fix to these signal issues.
If you think you find a bug that Apple doesn't seem to be aware of then you can provide any information here:
