Iphone only has audio thru speaker phone

im experiening my iphone 4 to only produce audio thru the speaker while on the phone. i can't hear or speak thru regular ear speaker. any suggestions ? i've been thru the utilities but can figure this out.

The phone may be stuck in headset mode. Rapidly plug and unplug a headset 10x to free up the switch inside the jack.

No phone audio but speaker phone works

Since the 2.2 upgrade my phone audio will be dead unless I turn on the speaker phone. Doing a powerdown reset has fixed this in the past, but today no help. I searched the fourms and found others with 2.2 audio issues but in their case the speaker phone is not working, opposite of my issue.
Sometimes it will work normally. Anyone else have this issue or a solution. This problem did not surface until the 2.2 update.

I had the same issue and a restore from backup and a reset to factory default settings did not work. I did notice that when I tried to turn up the volume the phone thought that my headphones were plugged in. I plugged my earbuds in and I could make calls and hear just fine but when I took the earbuds out I could only use the speaker phone.
So I took it into the Apple store and they said that there is a sensor in the earphone jack that can be clogged with dust and dirt. They then preceded to pull out a can of air and sprayed into the headphone jack and it now works just fine. So if you have a can of air give it a try.

New Palm Pre OS 3 days old and I can only hear using my speaker phone

I am pissed. Sprint can't seem to help me and Palm want to charge me to assist me. Are you having problems with your pre os? Plus there is no settings and/or tools and worst of all no freaking manual to research issues. Okay calming down but right now I think I am giving this thing back to Sprint and they can send it back to Palm!

I BELIEVE I HAVE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM WITH ONLY BEING ABLE TO HEAR WITH JUST THE SPEAKER PHONE. I WAS LISTENING TO PANDORA THROUGH A HEADPHONE JACK THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE CAR SPEAKERS. WHEN I GOT HOME I PULLED THE HEADPHONE JACK OUT ( WHICH I HAVE BEING DOING FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW) AND RECEIVED A PHONE CALL ABOUT 10 MINS LATER. I COULD NOT HEAR THE PERSON CALLING BY USING THE INTERNAL SPEAKER AND HAD TO USE THE SPEAKERPHONE.
TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM I DIALED MY VOICEMAIL AND TURNED THE SPEAKER PHONE OFF. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME HEADPHONES HANDY. PLUG THE HEADPHONES IN, YOU CAN HEAR THE VOICEMAIL THROUGH THEM AT THIS POINT. I REPEATEDELY UNPLUGGED AND PLUGGED THEM IN WHILE SIMUTANEOUSLY MUTING AND UNMUTING THE PHONE (TRY TO DO IT AT THE SAME EXACT TIME AS YOU PLUG AND UNPLUG THE HEADPHONES). IT TOOK ME ABOUT THREE TRIES AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. NO NEED TO SEND THE PHONE BACK IN. JUST PLUG AND MUTE AND VICE VERSA A FEW TIMES AT THE SAME TIME AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE.

Yes, I have near-perfect hearing too (for scope, squeaky brakes hurt my ears) I come from many conversations on many phones and types and first off, CDMA technology is great for coverage, terrible for voice quality. HD Voice in Europe made for some of the best phone conversations I've ever had.
Back on track, feedback is most noticable (similar to the landline phone) when using the iPhone without a headset, but for me it's not an absolute criticality mainly because I use VoIP apps alot, so maybe it has desensitized me some over the past year.
But whenever I'm on a call, and the other person has me on speakerphone, I have alot of trouble talking because of the feedback loop caused. So the less of my voice I hear the better I can talk.
Have you tried a bluetooth headset yet?

Help! iPhone 4 has terrible static problems, phone now unusable.

I have a 32GB iPhone 4 from 2010. Over the last couple of weeks the phone part of the device has become unusable: every single phone call I make or receive is marred by so much static that it's impossible to conduct a phone conversation. It starts crackling as soon as I place a call. This happens regardless of where I am (often in my house, where I've had fine reception for years), on the Edge or 3G Networks, and regardless of whether I'm using Bluetooth. It happens whether or not the speakerphone is on. And there's no way it's caused by interference -- this happens at work, in my car, out and about, at home, etc. If it's an environmental problem, then all of San Francisco must be having the same issue. (The only place it didn't happen lately is -- you guessed it -- the Apple store!)
Went to the Genius Bar today and was advised to:
a) reset Network Settings -- no improvement
b) Restore to original software -- no improvement
The Apple Genius said he couldn't see any problems, but trust me, something is wrong. I cannot make any phone calls, period. There doesn't appear to be a problem with the regular audio component of the phone -- it records audio and video just fine. But the phone is completely busted.
This is iOS 5.0.1, on a 32GB iPhone 4. Service provider is AT&T.

I have exactly the same problem. I contacted my carrier, and was rudely informed there was nothing they could do as it was a problem with the phone. I swapped SIM cards however the phone still didn't work. I am disappointed with apple's customer service and products. The phone I am having trouble with was given to me as "a new phone" (I'm guessing its been refurbished) after I had problems with the wi fi.

Replacement iPhone only has EJECT option. I cannot restore.

I have a Verizon iPhone4 running 4.2.10 that has a microphone problem. I have received a replacement phone, and am attempting to backup/restore to the new phone.
Following the Verizon instructions and backed up my original phone. Plug in the new phone, which shows up at "iPhone" in iTunes. My only option when I mouse over "iPhone" is "Eject".
Regarding the new iPhone, I have gone through the setup questions, added in my wireless network, and am getting an activation error. (server unavailable).
I have updated iTunes, but have NOT updated my old phone to os5 - I don't know if this is creating an issue.
I am confused on what to do next. Any help appreciated. Unfortunantly, I have lost my voice due to sickness, so calling a help line is not the best option for me right now.

I solved it by disabling the sim pin ...
settings -> phone -> simpincode ... switch it off

IPhone 6 loses audio out on phone calls

While making a call I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. It happens both in one-to-one calling and also going through response trees to get to the right person. The keypad work to choose an option, but as soon as the person is on the line, they can't hear me. Usually If I recall, it works, but sometimes it doesn't.

Fix common issues
Follow these steps, testing after each with Voice Memos.
Unplug anything plugged into the headset jack.
If you're on a call and holding your phone next to your ear, speak into the microphone and make sure you don't block it with your fingers or shoulder.
If you're using a screen protector or case that covers the microphone, remove it. Clear any debris from the microphones.
Restart your device.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
If you've tried these steps and people still can't hear you well on calls, contact Apple Support.

My iPhone only outputs audio on the left channel.

Randomly and without changing any settings, my iPhone has started only outputting the left channel of stereo audio, i.e. when I play a song on it I only hear it through the left channel. I've tried different sets of headphones, same story. Also it has stopped responding to volume changes via the inline remote - play/pause still works....
What could be wrong??

I am getting audio output from only my left earbud. However, the volume control mounted on the right channel cable is functioning fine. I plugged in another set of earbuds and they seem to work fine.
Can anybody help? Or do I have to visit the Apple store for a replacement of earbuds?

IPhone only plays through one speaker

Just recently my iPhone has stopped working on one side through the speakers. This is also is the same thing when listening through the speakers.

When you say "speaker" do you mean the speaker on the iPhone or one of the channels on the ear buds?
If one of your earbuds isn't playing music, the cord may have gotten damaged. Try another pair of buds and see if the missing sound channel comes back.
If it is your ear buds, call (800) my-iphone and talk to tech support. I had a pair of buds get static-ky aproximately 1.5 months post purchased and Apple shipped me a replacement pair at no cost. They will expect you to return the defective pair, so don't think this is a way to get a free "spare pair" of earbuds!

Using iPhone only with WiFi without local phone companies

When abroad it is better to use only WiFi (where available as Roaming is too expensive) but most of the times all calls are again going through local phone companies, despite making "off" for Cellur data, 3G and Roaming on Settings. How I can be sure the calls and other usage of my iPhone 4S is only with WiFi? Or how to exlude telephone companies for sure?

Her phone will automatically stop broadcasting using Wi-Fi if you put your device to sleep or after 90 seconds elapse with no devices connected using Wi-Fi. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.

ITunes is telling me I don't have enough space to do a backup, even though I have 26 gb free. My iPhone only has 6 gb of stuff on it.

I tried pointing the backups to a 1tb empty external drive, and it still told me I didn't have enough space. All this to try and fix the problem that I can't connect to the cellular data network with my iPhone 5. So far, I have had an extremely negative experience with this phone.

16gb iphone only has 13.09 gb capacity on itunes?

Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if anyone could help me?
I recently bought a white 16gb iphone 4s, and along with the other problems with battery, and siri being utterly useless within the UK for buisness searches I've recently just discovered that my Iphone has decided that its now a 13gb iPhone.... Now im not great with technology and it may be a very simple solution - I've currently got it in my head that the missing 2.41gb?! is taken up with software?!
When i plug the iphone into iTunes i look at capacity and it says that its 13.59gb
is there a simple soltuion, is it possible that my messages or something else may be taking up this room on my iPhone??

I have (re)joind ASC for a real purpose. I'm sorry for losing my previous account (thanks apple for the iCloud/MobileMe accounts fun) so one can see I did helped ansering some of the questions, but... today I have got upset about this storage advertising from vendors, and searching on the web I came to this topic, so I was willing to let other people know they are not alone with this issue.
I shouldn't be marked as a troll when I am complaining about real things, and sorry for offending anyone here. I am complaining about this to all storage vendors, but considering I have most of my products from Apple.. well, it just happen to be Apple's forum when I am complaining this time.
I know things are not going to be "fixed" anytime soon, but if nobody complains about this issue, then this issue will never be fixed. Complaining opens a small chance to change sometimes...
