Replacement iPhone only has EJECT option. I cannot restore.

I have a Verizon iPhone4 running 4.2.10 that has a microphone problem. I have received a replacement phone, and am attempting to backup/restore to the new phone.
Following the Verizon instructions and backed up my original phone. Plug in the new phone, which shows up at "iPhone" in iTunes. My only option when I mouse over "iPhone" is "Eject".
Regarding the new iPhone, I have gone through the setup questions, added in my wireless network, and am getting an activation error. (server unavailable).
I have updated iTunes, but have NOT updated my old phone to os5 - I don't know if this is creating an issue.
I am confused on what to do next. Any help appreciated. Unfortunantly, I have lost my voice due to sickness, so calling a help line is not the best option for me right now.

I solved it by disabling the sim pin ...
settings -> phone -> simpincode  ... switch it off

    True, normally there but since Google allows Exchange like support they can push server settings for security like Exchange admins can do for phones that touch corporate Exchange servers.
    Due to this Google can alter what options are available.

    One likely reason is the % battery is not that accurate because of the smaller battery capacity in the iPod compared to iPhone and iPad. Users why use a % battery app post that the % reading changes a lot.

    The phone may be stuck in headset mode. Rapidly plug and unplug a headset 10x to free up the switch inside the jack.

    That is your answer then.
    Large is 960x540
    Medium is 640x480 (or 720x480)
    Mobile is probably 480x272.
    It is offering you the sizes that make sense given the size of your source material.
    As a trick, you might try this. In your project, put a short 640x480 clip in the project as the first clip of the project. Then keep the rest of the project as is. See if it will let you share now in Medium. It will not look as good, because there are not enough pixels to cover the Medium size, but it might work.

The only has the option in disc utility is to re-install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow or loading another time machine back up but after an hour of it processing, that didn't resolve the issue either! The time machine back up is the latest back up of my Mac Book Pro which was using OS X Maverix. I'm guessing I'm going to have to take my Mac to the store but that would be a hassle so does anyone have any ideas?

    Follow this guide using another Mac.
    Insert your newly created Mavericks USB into you Mac, press the power button and then hold down 'option,' until it gives you an option to boot from the USB. You will then be able to erase the internal disk with Disk Utility and reinstall Mavericks straight after.
    After that you should be able to use Migration Assistant to restore your applications and user data.

    Sounds like your iPhone was hacked/modified/jailbroken to work
    with wireless carrier other than the one it was purchased from. The
    update has relocked it to the original carrier. Contact the original
    carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify - only the
    carrier to which the iPhone is locked can unlock it.
    What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
    Be advised that the previous modifications to change from original carrier
    to your local Carrier may have rendered the software unable to be updated or
    officially unlocked.

    That error often indicates a hardware failure.Try restoring a few more times. If it consistently gives you that error, make an appointment at the genius bar to have it looked at.

    Essentially all the things I use my phone for have now stopped working. I constantly have 3G connected (even though i dont want to use it, i want to connect to the wifi in my house) but still when I try to download/ send a picture over whatsapp it comes up with an error message saying the server is unverified, or something equally ridiculous.
    I deleted the app so i could reinstall it (as if that would help), but the app store is started saying "unable to connect", despite 3G, so that bright idea died out pretty sharpish.
    Whenever i try to turn on iMessage, it asks for my Apple ID password, which I know I've typed in correctly because I reset the **** thing about 4 times due to it apparently being "incorrect". Even so, it repeatedly asks for the password over and over as soon as I've entered it, saying it was "unable to connect" before a final "incorrect password" message pops up just to add an extra smack of annoyance.
    I haven't changed a single setting on my iPhone whatsoever. It just suddenly started spiralling into what is now £28/month-worth of pure frustration.
    I don't even have any music or photos on it as I had to free up 3.5GB of space on the **** thing to allow it to update, naively thinking that would solve the problem, but alas it did not.
    I have seen a few questions posted like this one, usually just one of the problems I have, but I seem to have rounded up the whole bunch (lucky me). None of the previously posted questions have received any replies.
    Can some please help me! Honestly, if i see another "unable to..." or "unverified source" pop up again I'll probably smash the thing against the side of my house.

    okay, so lately my iPhone 3GS has been telling me i have no service what so ever for the past two days. But today when i was on the bus going home from school, i had perfect service and everything until i got close to my house (to clarify, i live somewhat far out from the center of town, and my school is right in the middle of town.. didnt know if that would affect anything). So then i asked my Dad about it and he reccomended restoring and updating my phone to see if it helped because im a couple updates behind. So i plugged it in, backed it up, and began to restore and update it. All was well until it got to the "verifying the restore with apple" stage. I was watching the rose bowl and not paying attention while it was on, but remembered that it started that stage at the beginning of the game. Now the game just ended 5 or 10 minutes ago and lasted a goood hour, hour an a half, and its still verifying!! i dont know what to do... HELP!

    The school district "UPGRADED" to the new operating system.  iWeb, which I have been using for years, no longer supports my ability to publish to the district server.  Apple thought it wise to force us to use MobileMe.  Furthermore, Apple decided that MoblieMe is no longer unavailable.  To add insult to injury, the new version of iWeb doesn't even have a "save to folder" option any more.  In other words, I can no longer use iWeb.
    Am I totally screwed?
    Is there another way to publish my site?
    Will Apple make me purchase yet another "upgrade"?
    Is this a total rip off?

    ps.  As a loyal Apple customer (since 1982), I find these antics very frustrating.

    I suggest you upgrade to the latest iWeb version while copies are still availalbe: iLife '11 - Apple Store (U.S.).  That's because it's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
    On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
    Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
    All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
    I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
    There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

    However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
    In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
    HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

    I had to swap my launch day 16gb device (Vodafone UK locked) at the Glasgow Apple store on Saturday as the sleep button had stopped working. Having now viewed my replacement phone against some friends and colleagues ones it's clear that my screen is washed out looking, and even has some faint horizontal lines on it. Is it faulty, and am I entitled to take this back and have it swapped out again?

    The yellow spots that people talk about aren't the issue as it's an all over screen problem with regards to it looking "washed out". The temperature of the colours is certainly a lot warmer than the devices of other iPhone 4 owners I know. Although even between them there are obvious differences even with brightness set the same. On mine the white has a yellow/brown tinge to it, whereas the others have a more blue tinge to theirs.
    Also on mine there are very visible light spots at the top of the screen too, like the back light isn't uniform across the top edge.
    Obviously as I've now been using the phone since Saturday I'm perhaps slightly more used to the colour temperature, but the light spots are a concern and were definitely not present on my first device. The slight noticeable horizontal lines (that are more apparent if you move the device) are a concern too.

    We have had the same issue in the past (but then with BO version 6.5) and is was due to not performing the installation of deski completely. In our case the 'Generic ODBC' (which is used for the universe connection) was not selected to be installed during installation. After the universes were retrieved from the repository database only the 2 operators where visible.
    Solution: throw away the local stored universes, check and correct the installation of deski and re-import the universes again.
    Now remember that this was with BO version 6.5, but it might well be the same problem with XI3.1.
