IPhone SDK: auto-rotation sets wrong bounds in view?

Hi all,
Can anybody confirm if this is a bug in the iPhone SDK? I have a ViewController that defines as its view a DimensionsLogger, which is a trivial subclass of UIView that just logs its frame, bounds and center properties when layoutSubviews is invoked.
When I set this view as the root view in my application, the dimensions are logged like so (portrait mode):
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (320.000000, 460.000000)
I rotate it to landscape mode and the bounds are logged:
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (390.000000, 390.000000)
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (480.000000, 300.000000)
Then back to portrait mode:
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (390.000000, 390.000000)
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (320.000000, 460.000000)
So far, so good.
When I add my DimensionLogger + ViewController to a NavigationController, however, the same process (repeated several times) yields the following output:
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (320.000000, 416.000000)
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (390.000000, 346.000000)
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (390.000000, 358.000000)
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (390.000000, 358.000000)
Bounds: (0.000000, 0.000000) x (390.000000, 346.000000)

The bounds value never returns to the original dimensions.
Am I missing something, or is this a bug? The practical consequence of this is that it seems impossible to combine the following 3 UI elements:
- "anchoring" something to the bottom of a view, like a UIToolbar (NOT a tabbar)
- Nesting that view in a UINavigationController
- Supporting portrait and landscape interface orientation.
Also, if I file this as a bug, is there any way to search the bug report tool to see if this has already been filed? I've logged into the tool and I see some search functionality but it only seems to search bugs I've previously filed.

Just wanted to add that I've tried this in the simulator and on a provisioned iPod touch, same results on both.

oops my bad, you did say exactly that you had tried that. Sorry. Also you already Restored too. Only thing I could add, is to Restore as New iPhone, at end of Restore when prompted Set Up as New iPhone. And then see if better. Anyway, iPhone 4S has full Warranty, make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

IPhone 4 auto rotate

Help!!!!!! My phone will not auto rotate. Any idea how to get it to work?

Do you have rotation lock enabled? A rotation lock icon will appear in the status bar next to the battery charge icon when rotation lock is enabled. This looks like a circular arrow around a padlock. If so:
1. Double click the home button to bring up the multitasking bar.
2. Swipe right until the last set of icons is displayed in the multitasking bar (these will include play/pause and skip buttons for iPod or Pandora).
3. The furthest left icon looks like a circular arrow - touch this icon to enable or disable rotation lock on the iPhone.

Impact of setting wrong bounds in user_sdo_geom_metadata

Is it a problem (Performance, Indexing, ...), if the bounds in user_sdo_geom_metadata are set too big - so that all the data is in 10% of this window ?

Hi Toni,
With Oracle R-tree indexing (the default spatial indexing method), there is no problem (performance, indexing) with setting the bounds in user_sdo_geom_metadata much larger than the data bounds.
With the older indexing method (8.1.7 and earlier, the indexes were called Quadtree indexes) there may have been reason for concern (although not necessarily a problem) with setting the bounds of the coordinate system so large.

Tethered to Lightroom auto-rotation issue

Hi, I'm using a canon EOS 1D Mark III tethered to Lightroom via EOS utility. When I shoot, at the time of capture/import lighroom doesn't display my vertically shot images as verticals, rather horizontals. I've tried to toggle with the auto-rotate setting in camera (trying all 3 settings) and nothing has changed. What am I doing wrong?

Yes there is...actually after posting this problem, I realized that my issue was that "rotate image" under the "remote shooting" menu in prefs of EOS util was ticked on. It should be ticked off.

Auto rotate wont work on hp stream 8

i just bought my hp stream 8 tablet. Everything was fine until the screen didnt rotate to the side. ive try to see if i can change the setting but honestly i dont know how to fix it and where is the auto rotation setting locate?

Guess you need to take 2 steps back to get your Stream8 going again. If I was in your situation I'd try doing a "Refresh your PC without affecting your files".
Settings > Change PC Settings > UpdateRecovery > Recovery.
I did this once when I was playing with power settings and why I was seeing battery drain. Took about 15-30 minutes, I plugged in my Stream8 to the charger make sure it stayed up/running while this was going on. When this was done I also needed to redownload all the Msft updates.

Annoying fact: N97 auto rotate while making phone ...

While you are in a conversation and you look back at the screen, you want to press hold,loudspeaker, cut off line or other in call function, the phone will auto rotate to landscape mode, which is very annoying, since the buttons layout will be different and will cause delay.
On the iphone, this auto rotate function is switched off during conversation, which is very practical.
Is there a function on the N97 to turn off the auto rotate during call conversation WHILE the general auto rotate function is switched on in Settings?

Just tried it on fw v2.0, it still rotates during a phone call and there is no option to turn auto-rotation off during phone calls.
I found this design flaw in the UI very annoying. The phone rings, you pull it out of your pocket to answer and the screen rotates to landscape, and let's face it the N97 is not the snappiest phone so I missed a few calls waiting for the screen orientation to get itself sorted. I ended up just turning auto-rotation off, it will still change to landscape orientation when you open the keyboard.
*** Any Nokia employees reading this please forward this issue to the N97 team so that for the next fw update they can either turn auto-rotation off when receiving/during a phone call or include an option for this. ***

IPhone Cuts off Full Screen Photos in Contact View

The iPhone can use a full screen photo of a contact (when a call is initiated), if the original is cropped in iPhoto as '2 x 3 (iPhone) / Portrait'. (To set up full screen view on the iPhone, the user must select a contact, tap the 'Edit' button, tap the contact photo, tap 'Edit Photo', tap 'Choose', then tap 'Done'.) However, the same photo is then cropped to a square shape when initially viewed in the Contact screen, often cutting off the person's forehead. A suggestion for improvement would be to have the iPhone use the square cropping settings of the original photo when it was added to Address Book (for initial Contact view), and then use the 2 x 3 settings when the call is initiated to have the photo fill the screen. Anyone have any workarounds?

I have updated my software recently and the full screen default for the web browser is very annoying and causing my phone to slow down badly.
Has anyone been able to turn the Full Screen web mode default off??
Or how do you delete a software update.

My iPad suddenly stopped connecting to my home network. It shows the network to. Choose from but there is no IP address or other information on the network page. It is set on DHCP and proxy is set at auto. Do I have another setting wrong?

My iPad suddenly stopped working with my home network. It shows the network to choose from but will not connect. When I look at details in that network it does not show IP address or any other info for the network. Setting is on DHCP and http proxy is set on auto. Network is active and can connect on wife's iPad and other home computers. Do I have another setting wrong?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

IPhone: Where to find good Documentation and Samples for Auto-Rotate?

So I'm starting to get into the auto rotation features for my iPhone apps. I've spent a couple hours looking for some apple documentation and searching online, but I'm not finding any "definitive" guide to discuss the process. Any recommendations would be great!
Specifically, I'm trying to learn about the following:
- I have already implemented auto-rotation, but how do I setup my view so when rotated, it adjust the UI to take advantage of landscape mode. (i.e. I want to add extra features, and re-position some things)
- I also would like to the option within a couple views, that when rotated, goes to an entirely new view.

I generally find that vector drawing programs are better for drawing toolbar icons and the like, as vector drawings are easier to tweak and adjust later. I've had great success with VectorDesigner in my own apps; it has a shallow learning curve and a solid basic feature set, although it can be quirky at times. (It also doesn't play all that well with certain development tools: don't try to add VectorDesigner files to Xcode projects, and make sure you zip them before you add them to a Subversion or CVS repository. VectorDesigner files are packages--like application bundles--and those tools don't play well with packages.)
If you want to go a little higher end, Illustrator is the Photoshop of vector drawing, but like Photoshop you'll probably find it very difficult to start out with.
You'll also need a raster graphics editor to tweak exported images. I use Pixelmator for this, but Photoshop will work just as well.

IPhone 6 plus doesn't auto rotate on homescreen

Got the new iPhone 6 Plus for myself and the wifey, mine is fine....the wifey's today doesn't auto-rotate the icons when turned to landscape, yet it did yesterday.

Rotation of springboard on the iPhone 6+ only works in standard zoom. It took me awhile to figure it out. Go to settings ----> Display & Brightness ---->Display Zoom (View) ----> Standard. It will reset the phone, but it should rotate afterwards. In addition, make sure that the autorotate is set to unlock (swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the shortcut functions, portrait or rotate is the padlock symbol - must be off). Hope this helps.

Yes, its best to have each individual apple ids. You can also go to settings, messages, send and recieve, start new conversation from, make sure there is a check mark beside each of your own individual email, not the same one on each phone.

I set selected text color in uitableview cell using cell.selectedTextColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; for iPhone SDK 2.2.1.
Now i use iPhone SDK 3.1.2, So for that i make change as per documentation for that i use textLabel properties. But selectedTextColor is not exit.
So Now for SDK 3.1.2 how to set selectedTextColor?..

The textLabel property is an instance of UILabel, so it has its own textColor, textAlignment, and font properties. E.g.:
cell.textLabel.text = @"foo";
cell.textLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
cell.textLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft;

And you are not going to autosync your iPod with the MacBook unless you tell it to sync or plug it in.

iTunes settings > Store.
When you make a purchase, it will automatically download that purchase to devices set up the same way.
This is not the same as autosyncing your device to your computer (as you first asked).
