IPHONE SDK FOR DEVELOPERS.

Hi Mates,
After many trials, I managed to download the iPhone SDK. I have the following folders :
AccelerometerGraph,
BubbleLevel,
CryptoExercise,
HelloWorld,
PVRTextureLoader,
SpeakHere,
TouchCells,
UICatalogue.
I am not sure if all the folders were downloaded well.
I have some problems to start. I have Windows Vista. Can the iPHone SDK run under Vista or does it require Mac OS.
Thanks to help.
Judex.

Thanks for the "friendly" note, but as a "friendly" reminder to you - this is a user to user help forum that is primarily composed of "average joe" users of the iPhone. And what I mean by that is, this is not a computer programmer's forum.
Nothing personal against the OP for this thread, but he missed the minimum system requirements for the SDK provided at Apple's website where the SDK can be downloaded. Based on this alone, and I could very well be wrong, but I venture to say that he is not a computer programmer, or is not a programmer by profession.
I certainly could have worded my reply differently to be 100% accurate in regards to technical details for the computer programmer and anal retentive type, which I venture to say these discussions are not primarily composed of.
I included the part about the iPhone running an optimized version of OS X in regards to Apple's minimum system requirements for the SDK primarily to keep it simple since I expected - "why doesn't Apple utilize resources to support Windows with the SDK?"
Most people who ask that question are not computer programmers as a hobby or by profession either.
To keep it simple for what is likely the majority here, which probably does not include many computer programmers by profession - Apple could port the SDK to Windows, but since Apple sells computers and other hardware including iPods and the iPhone, along with their own software, Apple chose to support an Intel Mac running Leopard only for the iPhone and iPod Touch SDK - with both the iPhone and the iPod Touch running an optimized version of OS X.
Thanks for the note and clarification.

  • Iphone sdk for iphone os 2.1 final dmg does not install

    Hi all,
    opening the dmg file
iphone sdk for iphone os 2.1 final dmg
    fails with the error -4960.
A small message box pops up defining this error.
Is it because I have a PowerPC still so that developing apps for the iPhone / iPod Touch is not possible, or is it due to a download problem? (I resumed the download a couple of times in Safari)
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Thomas

The iPhone SDK requires an Itel Mac. [See here|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/download.html] in gray text below the +Download now+ on the left of the page.

  • Using an application built with the iPhone SDK for business

    Hi,
I've just finished making an application for a university project I am working on, its designed to show the benefits of using mobile technology in businesses. But I didn't totally think this through. After demonstrating this application to them, they've now asked if they can have this software on there devices to test and evaluate it. I had to say that I honestly don't know.
Is it possible to distribute an application I have made only to those who I choose? More specifically this is an application to be ran on iPod touches, how would I only allow my colleges to install this application?
I've heard of businesses using iPhone for business, but how exactly do they do it?
    Thanks,
    Si.

    Thanks etresoft,
I have a Developers account so testing the device on other iPod's/iPhone's shouldn't be a problem then. But what about distribution on a large scale, if they decided to use this for every employee, 1000+, is there a method to do this?
After researching I have discovered that a business can have an enterprise developers account, would this qualify for installing a private application on 1000+ devices? This will probably never happen, but as this is a uni project, I need to cover all aspects. Including if this is feasibly possible.
    Thanks,
    Si.

  • Problem in downloading IPhone SDK

    Hi Everybody,
I am trying to download the IPhone SDK for learning the iPhone application development. I have created an apple id. Should I get that file via torrent? If so, is there a checksum/hash I should check?

  • IPhone SDK, any way to send/receive a text SMS?

I've been looking through the iPhone SDK for a way to send a SMS from my application. Also I'd like to inspect the SMS inbox for specfic messages that have been received. Has anyone been able to send/receive a SMS from their application?
    Thanks,
    Tony

I think this is a limitation of the Beta SDK.
I've read that there are many limitations in place for 3rd party-developed apps that are designed to maintain integrity of the OS but I can't see Apple being so Dickensian.
Hopefully, much more will be unleashed with the full release of the SDK.

  • Problems building w/ Snow Leopard and iPhone SDK 3.0 Snow Leopard

Suddenly having problems building and codesigning after upgrading to Snow Leopard and iPhone SDK 3.0 Snow Leopard.

Any ideas? This is really strange.
The same error occurs when trying to build for Device - 3.0, and any other version it seems.
This is especially frustrating as I'm simply trying to update an app that I released before I upgraded.
I will love whoever helps me forever and ever.

Found the new SDK on the CD. Now I am running XCode 3.2.
I'm talking to myself now for the benefit of future readers.
On the Dev Center I see the note:
"Important: You will need to re-install the iPhone SDK for Snow Leopard if you plan on developing iPhone applications after upgrading your Mac to Snow Leopard and installing Xcode 3.2."
So I'm going to download and install the iPhone SDK 3.0 (Snow Leopard) from the SDK downloads area on the Dev Center page. This seems weird to me as it's 3.0... but I'm running 3.2 now... I guess this will just update my 3.2?
I also notice that when I run XCode 3.2 I don't have Simulator as an option anymore in my profiles.
Going to go ahead with the update now and see how it goes.

  • Downloaded iPhone SDK, ran Xcode, no option for iPhone - Mac OS only!

    Hi everyone,
I downloaded the free iPhone SDK and ran the installer. Whenever I launch Xcode however, there is no tab for iPhone applications - only Mac OS. I took a peak inside the packages folder in the download and spotted files named "iphone SDK", so I'm confused.
Any idea on why Xcode runs but there is no option for iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Xeno

    Hello,
On my PowerPC G5 I have a similar issue where I installed Mac OS X 10.5.6, but after installing the iphone SDK I do not see any refs to iphone when in Xcode.
I even tried the suggestion here:
    http://3by9.com/85/dont-have-an-intel-machine-but-want-to-code-for-the-iphone-an yway-follow-these-steps/
This however, resulted in the same issue.
Any suggestion on how to resolve this would be most appreciated.

  • Looking for older version of iPhone SDK

I have a Mac mini OSX version 10.5.8.
I'd like a version of the iPhone SDK that will run on this.
Does anyone know where I can find it?
    Thanks.

If it is an Intel with 1GB of Ram you can buy SnowLeopard to upgrade the OS. If it has 2GB of Ram and a Core2Duo Intel, you can then buy Lion ( from within Snow ) to upgrade 10.6.x to 10.7.x from the MacAppStore ( part of SnowLeo's 10.6.6 free update ).
Xcode v4.1 itself is freely available ( from the MacAppStore)  and you can make and freely distribute Mac OSX apps with it, but you can only install/test/submit ios-apps to Apples Appstore if you get a paid subscribtion with Apple.
Leopard is a dead OS for doing developing. ( and also in general soon , the ppc part of it is end of life ).

  • IPhone SDK - Ideas for pop-up menus

I have a screen where there are quite a few items which are of the multiple-choice type. In other platforms we use a combo box (pick lists) to do this.
On the iPhone SDK the only thing that comes close is the UIPickerView which is too heavy IMHO.
Currently i am using a full screen pop-up with a UITableView inside it for the menu items. It is functional but not cool.
I guess i could create a view which is rendered as a pop-up and add it as a subview to the parent and make it behave like a pop-up menu.
Has anyone tried do implement one? I would greatly appreciate your ideas on this.
    Thanks,

Yes, once you master the tutorial on creating these type of
    menus, you can
have them as dropdowns, or flyouts (as they are commonly
    called when
attached to a vertical menu system).

  • Cannot use AddressBook Framework for iphone SDK

I am trying to use the AddressBook Framework with iPhone SDK, and I added the following framework to my xcode project:
    /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS2.0.sdk/System/Lib rary/Frameworks/AddressBook.framework
When I compile, references to classes such as ABAddressBook and ABPerson cannot be resolved. ('ABPerson undeclared ...'). However, It seems the C interface to AddressBook is defined.
I am using the framework in the iPhone SDK directory, and I have #import <AddressBook/AddressBook.h> in my header file, but it is not working for me. Any tips would be appreciated.

It does explain the OP's problems
Conserning add and checking if there are changed records in the addressbook I hear people complain about it and got refered to apple to report it as a bug for the sdk.
And since we still are limited when it comes to mentioning the api I will rather link something someone else wrote on the topic before.
Have a look here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5495200 that should give you some of the basics.

  • Any SDK for iPhone?

NOTE: This is not a complaint but a humble question.
Does anyone know of the availability of an SDK for iPhone?
If none, do you know if there's any plan for it in the future?
    Thanks!

It's clear from some things Jobs has said that some people will be able to develop "real" iPhone apps/widgets. But I bet all such apps will have to get vetted by Apple and flow from iTunes Store->iTunes->iPhone...just like if you make a console videogame you have to talk to the console-maker before you can release it. Quality control.

  • IPhone SDK:  What are my options for getting help?

I am an experienced programmer, but new to the mac and iphone. I've installed the sdk, but am not able to build the sample programs. I see from this forum that others have had the same problem, but I don't see an answer. I understand that there are many helpful people on this forum, but what do I do if I can't get my question answered? Should I spend the $99 to enroll and be able to get an answer?
BTW, my question is about not being able to target the iphone or simulator, and getting an "ibtool cannot open files of this type" error, even though I've installed the iphone and simulator sdks. More at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8559012.
I appreciate any help, whether it's with my build problem or advice on where I should turn to for help.

    gvsguy wrote:

If you're really using a G5 iMac, I doubt you'll get much help from Apple. The iPhone SDK is only supported on Intel Macs, so they probably wouldn't be able (or not very willing) to help. Google is more likely to be helpful, assuming someone has found a way to use the iPhone SDK on PPC Macs at all.

  • Which version of iPhone SDK is available for MAC OS 10.3.9

    Hi,
I want to develop an application for iPhone using my MAC OS 10.3.9 version.
Which version of iPhone SDK is available for MAC OS 10.3.9?
Can I install and work with iPhone SDK 6 or 7 version on MAC OS 10.3.9.
    Regards,
    Punit

but the installation steps of SDK says that it can be installed on MAC OS 9.3.x also by customizing it during installation for the MAC OS 9.3.x.
If possible, could you post a link to where this information is.
OS 9 does not have a version 9.3.x so I am not sure what you are referring to unless that was a typo and you meant 10.3.x?
I think you might get better support in the Developer forum. If you don't receive any other response here in this topic perhaps posting there might attract more knowledgable SDK users.

  • IPhone SDK developers...

    Hi,
Is there a 'forum' located somwhere (anywhere!) in the "developer's connection" pages?
It seems odd to me that there is no forum for those of us developer types to talk with each other regarding iPhone SDK development.
For example it would seem silly to ask in THIS forum area (anywhere under the iPhone main heading) ...
"Where can I find anything in the SDK that allows me to see/modify/update the SYSTEM PREF Bundle??"
Is there an off-apple-site (usenet?) group anywhere for these kinds of questions?
    thanks,
