IPhone to MB Pro via Bluetooth

When I try to connect to my Macbook Pro with my iPhone 4 via bluetooth it says that my Macbook Pro is not supported.  What gives?
Never mind... I see that it's not supported and why.

I have had exactly the same frustrating experience trying to connect my iphone GS to my macbook pro. It was exactly as Steve described it in his original post. I want to connect computer and iphone so I can use the iphone's microphone for Dragon Dictate.
Dragon Dictate has been another frustrating experience and as yet I have not progressed with a solution. I bought Dragon Dictate and installed it on my computer. I also downloaded the free app "Dragon Microphone" thinking I could use the iphone microphone. I was trying to avoid buying a headset and the computer's microphone was not giving me wonderful results, even after considerable voice training on Dragon Dictate.
The free Dragon Dictation app for iphone works excellently. But it is a pain then getting my script back on to my computer (cutting, pasting, emailing, transferring to Word). If I could use the iphone microphone directly with my computer then I would be happy. But at the moment, I am not happy with these aspects of my computer/phone. Otherwise, I love my macbook pro and my iphone.
Can anyone hepl?

  • STILL not able to pair iPhone and Mac Pro via bluetooth. Really, Apple?

Honestly, I thought Mavericks would usher in a new era and that we'd finally be able to pair our APPLE iphones to our APPLE desktops via bluetooth. I know I can connect via USB but I don't happen to have the cord on me and it just doesn't make any sense that bluetooth is not an option in this day and age.
Apple, with all of the amazing things you are doing, why on earth can I still not connect two of your most widely used devices? Why do your computers "talk" to other-brand bluetooth devices, but not your own iphone?
I have an iphone 4s running iOS 7 and a Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.3. All suggestions welcome...anything I'm missing here?

Thanks Allan...just wanted to be sure there was nothing new that I was missing. And hoping the Geniuses see comments like these and pay attention to them. It seems so nonsensical and so "un-Apple" to still not support such a basic way of connecting their devices.

  • Is it possible to transfer photos, files from iphone 5s to macbook pro via bluetooth?

Before I got the iphone 5s, I was using a Nokia phone.  I was able to transfer photos, files from my Nokia phone to macbook pro via bluetooth connections.  It was very simple and POSSIBLE (even though apple support staff said it was not possible to do so).  My macbook pro does NOT need to be paired with Nokia phone as long as it can DISCOVER the nokia phone and vice versa.
Hence, after i got the iphone 5s recently, I'd expected both devices (iphone 5s and macbook pro) to communicate and connect via bluetooth as easily as Nokia phone.  However, I was disappointed to find out the iphone 5s kept "searching" for discoverable device even though my macbook DISCOVERED the iphone!!  Thus, I was NOT able to transfer any files from these two devices.
Any apple technical people care to explain why BOTH are apple products cant work?  A Nokia phone and macbook can.  Very strange, isn't it?

Althought, you can use bluetooth to transfer photos, files from iPhone to Macbook,However,it is so slowly,if you want to quickly copy photos/files from iPhone to Mac,you can use tools or software to help you, such as iStonsoft iPhone to Mac Transfer,This is a very professional tool,Hope this helps!

  • Synching your iPhone to your MBP via Bluetooth.  Is it possible?

Can you synch your iPhone to your Macbook Pro via Bluetooth? Or do we have to use the cable?

  • How can i use my iPhone 4 and connect via bluetooth with my macpro

how can i use my iPhone 4 and connect via bluetooth with my macpro

The only way that you can connect your iPhone to the mac is to use it for a "Wi-fi hotspot" meaning that you can use the celluar connectivity of your phone to connect your computer to the interent.
Do you mean a MacBook Pro of the desktop MacPro?

  • Can I sync my iPhone with my MBP via BlueTooth?

    Hey All..
I'd love to sync my iPhone with my MacBook Pro via bluetooth but when I use the Bluetooth set-up assistant to add a device it doesn't even find my iPhone. I wondered if maybe it wasn't possible to link the two. Also...when I was in bluetooth and "browse device" my bluetooth kept quitting. Not sure if a)Bluetooth cant connect the phone yet b)my bluetooth on my MBP isn't functioning.
If anyone who can help with suggestions it would be great..

Transferring music, video and photos is slow to me with USB 2.0 instead of using Firewire, so it would be like watching paint try trying to transfer such data via Bluetooth file transfer.
Not supported with the iPhone regardless.

  • Able to connect ipad 2 to iphone 4s personal hotspot via bluetooth or wifi, but no internet access when connected via wifi.

I am able to connect my ipad 2 to an iphone 4s personal hotspot via bluetooth or wifi.  The problem is that I only have internet access with a bluetooth connection. Both are running ios 6.1.2 and I have tried to reset both to factory settings. Any suggestions would be reatly appreciated.

Please don't shout!   Using all uppercase means shouting on the internet.  If your keyboard is stuck please say so, otherwise people will think you are being obnoxious.
Now the first question is, when you are saying connecting to personal hotspot, have you always been using the iPhone to connect to the internet?   Are you someplace where the only place to connect is available via tethering to the iPhone's celluar network?  Or do you have other options?

  • Is there anyway to connect iphone to other devices via bluetooth.like nokia and other phones

Is there anyway to connect iphone to other devices via bluetooth.like nokia and other phones

    No
Bluetooth is supported for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone devices/headsets, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, and tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this, it will not connect to any computer/phone/device.

  • Cannot get my iphone 4 to connect via bluetooth to another phone or my pc

I cannot get my iphone 4 to connect via bluetooth to another phone or my PC, despite activating bluetooth on the iphone it just says 'devices' 'searching' 'now discoverable'. I have put the 2 devices very close to each other as well.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks

That's because it's not supported. The iPhone supports hands free devices, keyboards and A2DP audio streaming. Bluetooth can only be used to a computer for tethering. Some apps can establish peer to peer connections for gaming and data sharing, but that's it.
What you're trying to do will NOT work.

Not via Bluetooth. You can connect over Wi-Fi, but this needs to be configured when the device is connected with a cable.

  • My iPhone 5 doesnt see my MacBook Pro via Bluetooth

Anyone have any idea or steps or fixes to my bluetooth issue? While at the office, I was trying to tether my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 5 via bluetooth. My MacBook will see my phone, I attempt to pair, PassCode comes up on both devices, numbers match, but then my phone will say " The Bluetooth network is unavailable.  There was an error connecting to your device's network. Make sure network access is enabled and available on your device" . I have checked my WFI network, Bluetooth network, and Personal Hotspot - Everything is set to "on" - I have reset the network connections on my phone - and I have also restarted my MacBook and reset the PRAM (press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys) but no change... this is quite frustrating.
    HELP Please....

No - Tether to the internet.

  • Can't pair iPhone 5s with Macbook Pro via Bluetooth

I have an iPhone 5s and Macbook Pro with retina display (running on iOS 8.0.2 and Yosemite respectively). For some reason, my iPhone can never see my MBPr but the MBPr can see the iPhone. Pressing the "Pair" button on in the Bluetooth setting panel in OS X will trigger the pairing confirmation to show up on my iPhone. After confirming the pair request, the devices remain connected for no more than 2 seconds. Then they just disconnect. (The status is "Not connected" underneath my iPhone on the Devices list in OS X)
This has been bugging me for a while, even before I upgraded to iOS 8 and Yosemite. I was hoping the upgrade will solve the issue but apparently not. My iPad  on the other hand has no problem in connecting and remaining connected to my MBPr. That's just baffling.
Just some context: the reason why I wanted to connect my MBPr and my iPhone via Bluetooth is because I want to use my my iPhone as the hotspot. Yes, I can use the USB cable, but can't blame me for trying the wireless route (And no, connecting via wifi doesn't  work)
    Any help is appreciated!

  • IPhone 5s and Macbook Pro via Bluetooth??

For some reason I cannot connect my iPhone 5s with my new Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display. On both my iPhone and Macbook Pro bluetooth menus they come up but when I am on my iPhone it keeps saying, "Macbook is not supported." Why is this????

Other than Internet tethering, BT file transfer is not supported.

  • Trouble connecting iphone 5s to macbook pro via bluetooth

My MBP (OS 10.10) and iPhone 5S (iOS 8.0.2) (both late 2013) do not connect via bluetooth.
I want to use Handoff and file transfer between them, which is why I am trying to connect them.
    Steps taken:
    1) I pair the devices here:
    2) My phone says that they are not supported (see below)
Sometimes they connect for about 30 seconds, but then disconnect.
    What should I do?

Found a solution on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
Check the following settings on your Mac:
Go to the Wi-Fi icon at the top of your screen and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your Mac and iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iOS device and compare the name of the network with the Wi-Fi network on your Mac.
Go to the Bluetooth icon at the top of your screen and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
In System Preferences > General, select “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.” If you don't see this setting, your Mac may not support Handoff.
Open the FaceTime app, go to FaceTime > Preferences and turn on “iPhone Cellular Calls.”
Go to System Preferences, and sign out and then sign in again to your iCloud account.
