Did that, but when wanting access to the iCloud to store and sync etc.. it defaults to the old account which I can not delete befor I verify it ---- cant verify it cos I dont have access to the email!!! Catch 22

Put in a request for another verification e-mail to be sent to you.
Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
Also check your Mail rules and filtering, the verification mail may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted altogether. You may also wish to contact your mail provider to see if their spam filters are removing the email before it gets to you.

What does it mean when setting up iCloud that it asks merge with iCloud?

If you already have some contacts on your phone when you sign up for iCloud, iCloud will ask you if you wish to keep these contacts on your phone only and start an additional iCloud accounts for contacts, or merge the two accounts together so that all the contacts will be in the new iCloud account.
Nothing will happen to your photos when you sign up for iCloud photos are not involved in this procedure.

I followed the steps to reset my password, but it's not working because its asking about the old email address and I can't seem to change it. If you need to change the ID for iMessage, go to Settings>Massages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you need to change the ID for FaceTime, do the same thin in Settings>FaceTime.
If you need to change the ID for iCloud, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID. This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.
To avoid losing photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll (if not already there) before deleting the account. To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.

I can't set up iCloud on iMac, in system preferences. Gives Unrecognized Apple ID or password when I try to sign in. However I can set it up fine on my macbook pro. Is this stilla busy server issue. It pops up with a warning that says:

Wonderful Rainbow Wheel when setting up icloud account on mac book air

I am trying to set up a new icloud email account on my MacBook Air, I am using latest software, but i am getting the wonderful rainbow wheel, it is taking an extremely long time to set up and then once it is set up it can not check for mail because it is not filling in the incoming mail server, nor can i manually input.
I would think apples own mail program would work seemlessly on their own computer but it seems not.
Any advice?

When you set up icloud and turn on calendar syncing, you get a panel that asks whether to merge the local data on the device or computer with icloud data. You must have responded NO. If the calendars are now gone from your mac, then your only hope is to restore the data from your Time Machine backup.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.
