IPhoto 8.0.3 update causes iPhoto Places to malfunction

Well I applied the latest update to iPhoto, only to discover that this update basically rendered the Places-functionality unusable.
When I try to drag the map, the map tile under my mouse cursor gets selected and moves with my cursor.
I already tried to delete the iPhoto plist-file once and create another iPhoto-library. Nothing worked for me.
I hope Apple will post a fix for this soon, as I happen to rely heavily on this functionality.

Thank you for your hint. Yes, I have read all 151 messages, none of which helped. Seems there is an issue with Safari 4.0 and WebKit. I reported the issue to Apple via the feedback.
This isn't the first time that Safari caused problems with other programs. I clearly remember that the 4.0 beta version caused text input problems with MSN Messenger for Mac.

  • IPhoto 9.2.1 Update causes screen flash between desktop and blank

A customer brought his MacBook Pro to us after updating his iPhoto to 9.2.1.
When he boots up, it loads and flashes between his desktop and a blank bluish/black screen in 1sec intervels.
If you pull up iPhoto it will stop and everything runs "normal"
I have run a Software Update on iPhoto and the System as a starting point.
    MacBook Pro
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    iPhoto 9.2.1
    Any suggestions?

At this time, I'm leaving iPhoto on.
The Finder works just fine. Don't see any problems.
    I restarted.
At first it did not blink. Saw the desktop.
Then it began to alternative between a color and the desktop.

iPhoto is missing part of the substructure it needs to run. You need to reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • IPad Mini after iOS 8.3 update causes iPhoto 11 repeats

After upgrading both iPhone 5S and iPad Mini to iOS 8.3 I sync them to my Mac Pro 1.1 Lion there is a peculiar repeat of iPhoto 11 continually trying to load photos.
It counts the quantity then the iPad or iPhone dismounts. It remounts and it starts again. I shut the iPhoto down and restarted the app. It continues to do it. I will rebooting the Mac Pro and try it.
Heads for of you still running Mac Pro 1.1 with Lion.

You can preform a DFU restore.
    Follow my steps:
    - power down your iPad
    - Hold down the home button and don't let go
    - Plug the iPad to your computer
    - Do not let go the home button
    - ITunes will prompt you that the iPad is recovery stage
    - Restore your iPad
You should be all set and updated issue free.
    Cheers!

  • Lion update cause iPhoto to crash

I open this and it keeps showing the spinning logo. I was browsing this forums and did a few things like removing the preference files in the Library folder, even removing iPhoto and redownloading it and reinstalling it, Installed iPhoto library manager and rebuilt library and it also did not work. The Macbook Air is using the 10.7.4 Lion and iLife '11... I installed all updates and spend around a week but still nothing works. Please please please help. I need to get iPhoto working before my project end of this week. I have removed com.apple.iphoto.plist and com.apple.iphoto.lockfile.plist .... and then while those 2 files on desktop. I click on Option + Command to rebuilt 1,2 and 6 option... iPhoto still opens with the spinning logo. I have the 256gb SSD. Please help.

    Stuart:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Then, if necessary, reinstall the 10.4.10 COMBOupdater followed by a repair of disk permissions.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Updating iPhoto Libraries for latest Update of IPhoto version fails

I have ILife 11 and have IPhoto Libraries in different locations and now that the program says they need to be "updated for the latest version of IPhoto", but when I start the update the Mac always gets the rolling Beachball "eventually" and the error report says system hung. What do I do? I am in Lion OS. Are my libraries too big? They are on large External drives. (1TB or bigger). They worked with the my older IPhoto's versions so why not with the update? This was from an auto update message from Apple for IPhoto. When locating a library, a message tells me I need to update it to work with latest IPhoto, and asks, UPDATE? I hit yes.
Can I put these libraries in someplace special for my Mac to be able to update them? Can my Lion be reinstalled as a possible fix? If so how? This is wrong for Apple to screw up their loyal customers computers. Photo libraries are precious.
    IPhoto Fans please help.

  • IOS4 4.1 firmware update causes camera function to malfunction

After updating to firmware 4.1, the camera function is not working properly.
The images taken are not in a red hue from the normal picture. Is there anyway to fix this or should I revert back to the previous firmware?

Update on my prior post. I used Disk Utility and Disk Warrior on each of the four disks that were connected to my AEB. DU and DW found and fixed damage on every disk. While that was going on, I reverted to firmware 7.3.2. Reconnected my disks to the USB hub, connected the hub to the AEB and all four disks show up just as they did before the 7.4.1 update.
Using the retrospectoscope, I should have disconnected the USB devices before applying the update. Think I will stick with 7.3.2 for the foreseeable future.

  • IDVD causing iPhoto corruption?

Newly purchased iLife '11. Installed iDVD only ( did not come w/ my Mac )
Now iPhoto has the ø symbol over it and states "You can't open the application
iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete" Also updated iDVD to latest
    7.1.2

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For OS X 10.7.5 the latest version of iPhoto that can be run is iPhoto 9.4.3.  To get that version install iPhoto from the iLife 11 disk (do a custom Install) to get iPhoto 9.0.  Then use the following updaters to get to iPhoto 9.4.3:
    update to iPhoto 9.3
    update to iPhoto 9.3.2
    update to iPhoto 9.4
    and finally to iPhoto 9.4.3

  • I updates my laptop and it won't let me update  my iphoto?

i updated my laptop to the newest software recently and i was scrolling down my dock and iphoto wouldn't open because it needed to be updated,, i tried to update it but i would click accept and put my apple id in but nothing would happen and i tried to do it again but it wouldn't work.

No information - nothing to do but make wild ugesses
My personal wild guess is that ti upgraded to Yosemite and that you have not upgraded iphoto to version 9.6 - if that wild guess is correct then backup your iphoto library and upgrade/update to iphoto 9.6 from the App store  - if your current version of iphoto is iphoto '08 (version 7.x.x) or older you also will need to download, install and RUN the iPhoto library upgrader after installing iPhoto 9.6 but before launching it

  • Places not updating in iPhoto

After attempting to import latest photos from my iPhone, Places is not updating in iPhoto it just keeps spinning and the photos are not importing plus I cannot quit iPhoto and shut down my Mac.  Any suggustions?

I was able to force a download of my photostream by disabling Automatic Import and Automatic Upload in Preferences>Photostream.

  • Assigning place to photo causes iphoto '11 to bomb

I have just upgraded to iphoto '11. No problems installing. Upgrade library. No problems. Then downloaded and installed update. Strange why the guy in the apple store didn't even mention that an update had been released. No problem... untill I tried to assign a place to my photos. The assign places search function insists that i have pressed each key twice, e.g. Brighton becomes 'BB' backspace 'Brr'. The rolling beachball churns until I have to force quit. Have reset keystroke repeat to minimum. No effect.
There seem to be a number of bugs creeping into previous faultless apple software releases, i think they need to improve their quality control.

What updater did you run on iPhoto?  The double letter bug was fixed with the iPhoto 9.1.1 update I believe.  Go to the Apple Downloads page and download The iPhoto 9.1 and 9.11 updaters.  Apply both of them in order. Then try the Location entry again.
If you still freeze up launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new library.  Import a couple of photos into the new library and try assigning a place again.  It it works as intended then your current library is damaged.
If that's the case try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Deleted photos caused by update of iPhoto

I just updated all of the programs on my computer, and when I restarted my computer all of my pictures were gone! This has never occurred to me after updating any program. How can I import them back into the new version. The same thing happened with my iTunes! Pleaseee helpppp!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Sounds like a damaged library. Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
See if that won't bring back the photos. If not then you may have to rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Iphoto froze when downloading update, have lost all pictures. Can I retrieve?

I'm being told to re-download iphoto from ilife - but won't this mean I have lost all my valued pictures? Why does downloading new updates cause so many problems? When I tried to update my iphone to IoS5 it froze the phone and I lost all my contacts, messages and info. Unbelievably I then couldn't retrieve from my backup as it demanded a password and, despite hundreds of attempts to input it, I was told by Apple tech support that there are big problems with iphone backup passwords. They admitted that they can't help with passwords as the Mac and iphone generate new passwords every time you charge your phone on another machine that not your own. HEEEELP.

1 - reloading iPhoto does not affect your photos - they are in teh iPhoto library
2 - even if you have a problem you surely always have a good backup - if you don't you are guaranteed to lost your photos and all other files sooner or later
3 - If you have iphone and IOS 5 questions teh iPhone forum is a great place to ask
You question is not clear and rambles so I am not sure if this really answers it or not - if it does not please ask a specific question about iPhoto including details of errors you get

  • IPHOTO Library file will not open after update of iPhoto 9.6.1

I am trying to open up my IPHOTO Library in IPHOTO 9.6.1 with not success.
My computer is a Mac (27-inch, Mid 2011), 2.7 GHZ Intel core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB graphics card, 1TB Hard Drive.
My iPhoto 9..6.1 appears to be created on March 16, 2015 and was modified on March 20,2015 which I assume is from a security update 2015-003.
My iPhoto Library was created March 22, 2012 and was last updated March 1, 2015.  To the best of my knowledge, it has not been open since it was last updated.  Unfortunately there are no current backups to the file.
When I launch IPHOTO the screen shows a rotating sprocket then after a period of time I receive a message:
Your photo library is either in use be another application or has become unreadable. Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again.  If the problem persists, try rebuilding your iPhoto library,  to do this , quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed.  You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
When I follow this am left with four  items to chooses from:  repair permissions, rebuild thumbnails, repair database, rebuild database.  The first is selected and assume this is by default. I am not sure what the best choice is to select.  Secondly since i have no backup of the file and I am not sure the file is corrupted, I started trying to create  a copy on on an external drive however the file (192GB Size) new completes a copy routine. I considered a backup process which would take multiple hours.
    Looking for direction.

    1. make a back up. No matter how long it takes.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
    2.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
