IPhoto export images w/Adobe RGB

I shoot in RAW (Nikon), import image file to iPhoto, do some minor edits, and export to JPG (max quality) or TIFF. When I open with Preview and do COMMAND-I, I noticed the exported file now has Adobe-RGB as the color space.
How I can export (from iPhoto) to sRGB color space?
Can I convert/re-assign the color space from Adobe-RGB to sRGb in Preview or any other appication?
Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Where do you export the file to? Are you using iPhoto to do the editing or a 3rd party editor like Photoshop?
Is there a menu option in the camera's settings windows that lets you assign a color profile? If there is what is it set to. Does editing a photo that hasn't come from your camera result in the Adobe RGB profile?
How is your iPhoto Advanced preferences set up?
If it is not checked then check it, import a RAW file, do you edits and check the profile. If it is checked, uncheck it and run the same text.
For photos already edited and exported out of iPhoto you can use this Applescript to losslessly embed the sRGB color profile in the files: *+Embed sRGB Profile-Applescript+*. You can download it from Toad's Cellar. It must be applied to image files outside of iPhoto.

  • RAW Images using Adobe RGB

This appears to not just be an issue with iPhoto but more of the RAW image support in OS X itself.
All RAW images that are opened in preview have the color profile Adobe RGB attached to them - this goes for all RAW images that I export to JPEGs from iPhoto. While this isn't really a problem if I am to keep/view/print images from my MacBook alone - but the colors of my images get messed up when I export some images for my wife to view on her PC - or when I use the Facebook feature of iPhoto to upload images to my Facebook account. The conversion to sRGB makes them look all washed out.
Is there some way to have OS X use a different color profile when processing RAW images... so I know that what it will look like after I make adjustments and export them? Like I say - this isn't an iPhoto issue - but a OS X RAW Image issue... so forgive me if this is not the correct forum.
    Cheers!

    Thanks TD,
I think that applies to JPEGs that are brought into iPhoto as opposed to RAW images that OS X processes.
I am sure Facebook does process the file somewhat... mostly resizing the image to meet its specs. But as for the color I am sure it is to do with the color profile used. As I a say, the images look the same (washed out) when opened on my wife's PC (or my two PCs for that matter).
I tested this by exporting a RAW image to JPEG in iPhoto... open it in Preview - the color profile used is Adobe RGB (as this is what OS X RAW Processing is using). I apply (convert) to sRGB and the colors become washed out (just as when uploading to Facebook). So it's apparent that it's a Color Profile issue. I just wanted to know if the OS X RAW processing be set to use another Color Profile.... Adobe RGB looks good... but not so great if the file is to be viewed with or exported to sRGB.
    Cheers!

  • Iphoto exporting images with no name and mail with no reply info

One of our Macbook pros, running osx 10.8.5, is sending email via iphoto that ,
#1) creates a photo with NO NAME that cannot be saved no matter what you do,
    and
#2) the email can not be forwarded, seems like because there is not "reply to" information.
the Prefs are filled out correctly in the iPhoto email settings.
Why did they configure iphoto to do the "send" FROM iphoto in this OSX version? This worked fine before as it would open up your mail whereby you could arrange and double check things.
So i was trying to do a work around by sending the email to myself but the email and the attachment can not be forwarded. As well the image CAN NOT be dragged to the desktop to be saved. USELESS!
just a Ghost email and attachment.
    very frustrating.

InDesign has a feature that will automatically search for other missing links when you fix a missing link. When you relinked the first of your grayscale images, you may have accidentally relinked to the saturated image. When this happened it searched the directory that the newly re-linked file was in for all the other missing files. Since your image names all matched up to images in that directory, they all got re-linked.
This auto-relink feature can be toggled in the relink dialog:
If you have a backup of your file, you can revert to that version, and try to relink your images from that one. In the future you should make sure that images all have unique identifiers, it is bad practice to have images with identical names.

  • IPhoto 5 and Adobe RGB - RGB 1998

    Dear fellow members,
    1. I've been using iPhoto 5 for a couple of years and haven't questionned about this version <<compatible>> with Adobe RGB (RGB 1998). I understand that the sRGB is already an embedded profile of iPhoto 5, but is Adobe RGB embedded either?
The reason I ask this question is because I wish to work in Adobe RGB, from my new digital still camera, to my other post-processing softwares [from Adobe and Phase One manufacturers].
I understand that Adobe RGB offers some more tonalities and color spectrum, this is the reason why I wish to move from sRGB to Adobe RGB.
    2. If I wish to publish photos on the web, I should be careful about exporting in sRGB for a broader audience, though.
But does iPhoto knows it automatically, I'm not sure, however, I can try to convert to sRGB in Preview.app and compare...
    3. Looking at pictures on a browser, Safari, or Firefox also differs: Safari manages Adobe RGB, but not Firefox
    (see e.g. http://www.gballard.net/psd/golive_pageprofile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html) .
    4. From what I've learnt, I also had to recalibrate my Ti667 screen from the Apple preset 1.8 to Gamma 2.2.
    5. Finally what does Generic RGB mean in the OS X system?
Thank you for your comments and responses.
    Best Regards.

    Mr. Scuttles:
1 - It depends on what camera you're using as to the profile used. Canon cameras use a profile titled Camera RGB. It's an RGB profile that is very similar to the other RGBs except for the Adobe. The Adobe has a wider gamut (range) of colors. If your camera embeds Adobe when you shoot then you don't have to do anything.
2 - If you edit in iPhoto the modified version will retain its Adobe RGB profile. So if you plan on using the photos on the web and want to use sRGB you will have to embed that profile with a 3rd party application. I've modified a ColorSync Applescript to do that. You can download it from Toad's Cellar. It's much faster than using Preview as it can do batches of photos at one time. Just drop the files or a folder of file on it and let it do it's stuff. It's a lossless process. It's a tad slow however, but does a very good job.
5 - See this Technical document for the Generic RGB and Apple RGB differences: http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2005/qa1430.html
If you open the ColorSync Utility application (in the Applications/Utilities folder) you can view and compare the various profiles.
    Do you Twango?

  • ProColor RGB or Adobe RGB ?

I have always run Adobe RGB on PS (now CS3)... have it "automatically convert".
*When I go to PS it is normally because the Output will be to a Printer in the End (and also a web version) ... (also have my camera set to Adobe RGB, "although" I always shoot RAW ... never know when you might run out of space lol)
OK, so because LR is PROphoto RGB ... is it NOW better to Export ALL my images from LR using PROphoto RGB and not have PS CS3 "auto convert" all my images to Adobe RGB anymore? (my default in PS CS3 is to work in Adobe RGB)
    * YES, whenever I Print in office ... or send a Profiled JPG to a Printer SITE ... I am using a Printer ICC or converting to the ICC.
lol, have a feeling I might know the answer ... but want to confirm if it is in FACT better to be working in PROphoto RGB all the way?
And that most is doing it this way ....

Or is the "working color space" of LR inconsequential since you cannot get an image out of LR without seleting an embedded color space that the image is converted to? I read somewhere that ProPhotoRGB isn't really the working color space of LR, it mentioned Mellisa or Love Child. If LR has its own color space and simply converts on output. Monitor display is simply another output to sRGB, if calibrated having an ICC file to assist in conversion.
There are two color spaces to consider. One you can control, one you cant. The internal color space for all processing in LR is ProPhoto RGB using a linear encoding. We cant mess with that and theres no reason to.
We can export to three color spaces, two smaller than the internal color space (sRGB and Adobe RGB (1998)).
I dont have any issues doing everything in ProPhoto RGB 16-bit. With a totally raw workflow, thats easy. Where things get a tad dicey is using existing rendered images in LR. They have a color space before you import them. So in theory, you could be moving from sRGB to ProPhoto RGB (internal color space processing) then out to either sRGB again (which seems like a good idea) or Adobe RGB (1998) or finally, ProPhoto RGB. It would be cool if LR could somehow honor the original and output color space. So if you start with sRGB, you get sRGB (but again, theres a conversion to ProPhoto RGB/linear gamma if you do any corrections).
If you stick with 16-bits going out of LR, I doubt youll have an issue doing this theoretical sRGB to ProPhoto RGB dance but I suspect if the original color space was sRGB, that was for a reason and I suspect many want to honor that. Of course, if you start with a color space thats not one of the three spaces that are supported for export, its kind of moot. IOW, you can end up witb any color space you wish, as long as its sRGB, Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB.
Melissa RGB (Love Child RGB) is a cute name for the space thats used to represent the histogram and percentage values. Youre never really dealing with this space.
Applications dont have a color space? Well they use a color space for processing so yes. In the case of LR, the internal color space used is ProPhoto RGB as defined by this specs white point and primaries (chromaticity values) but using a linear encoding (what some would call a gamma of 1.0). Melissa RGB is the same expect its using the sRGB tone response curve (what would incorrectly be called a 2.2 gamma encoding). Then you have three options for a color space in which to encode your images upon export out of LR.

  • Adobe rgb to srgb conversion

    Hi!
Does anyone know how to change the color profile of photos stored in iPhoto 6 from the Adobe rgb format (that their currently in) to srgb format? And would I need to duplicate all the originals so as to not permanently lose the larger color space of Adobe rgb? I'm wanting to get photos printed by an online printing lab that I understand uses srgb format. If I do the conversion before sending them off, will this mean the color I then see on my screen will match the prints I get?
I've read a number of discussion threads on the color profile topic, but I am still really confused!

Have a look at Old Toad's post here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12400600&#12400600
and the Automator app he created to do the job, linked to in that post.

  • Adobe RGB to SRGB export Lightroom CC

    Hello
I am getting quite the discoloration when exporting my Adobe RGB photos into SRGB with Lightroom.
Some colors like blue gets heavily saturated, while reds/browns hidden inside in grass and foliage gets an ugly boost, making grass look very unatural.
This color shift is visible in both Windows Explorer, XN Viewer and when i import the exported photos into Lightroom itself. Adobe RGB exports looks great. SRGB looks whacky.
Is there any trick i can use to get more accurate color conversion in Lightroom? Right now its kind of Texas.

I have put your file through my Lr setup and this what I found.
    1) Paper gamut warnings are very different from yours, noticeably I don't get any warning on the top left corner of the blue sky and get warnings is less of your backpack than you do
    2) I virtually get no monitor warnings (just some gamut warnings on the backpack)
    3) This is a screenshot of an AdobeRGB export and sRGB export (100% quality and 300 pixels per inch) [I have sent you the originals via Dropbox, please see private message]
Perhaps the sRGB is a bit darker but the there isn't a huge difference between the sky.
It could be your profile and/or your wide gamut display (as @twenty_one has said). My display is a Samsung S27B970, calibrated 2 days ago with an i1 Display Pro from x-Rite.
Have a read through Tony Jay replies to this recent thread Soft proofing sRGB on wide gamut monitor - Lightroom Forums. It might be worth to soft proof using your monitor profile, which is what Tony Jay is doing for image 5 in his 1st reply to that thread.
Edit: Tony Jay replies are a year old, so not that recent.

  • Adobe RGB changed to sRGB after export in Aperture 2.1.1 Why?

I have tried taken pictures with color profile Adobe RGB, but all images exported via Aperture 2.1.1 shows up as sRGB in the EXIF. Does Aperture convert the color profile somewhere?

When exporting, you get to choose your color profile. The export pre-set you chose uses sRGB. So, after choosing your export preset, click on the preset drop-down menu again and go all the way down to "Edit". This will allow you to change the profile to Adobe RGB from sRGB. That setting now will always be used for that pre-set. If needed, you can create other pre-sets by clicking the plus symbol in the bottom left corner of that edit dialog box.

  • When preparing email IPhoto 11 converts images to gneric RGB profile

I like the new email features in iPhoto '11 ver 9.1.1. The one thing that bothers me is the way some images are converted to the "generic RGB profile." Why not leave them alone in their initial profiles like sRGB or Adobe RGB. If I am sending "Actual" attachments the initial profiles are retained. The problem arises with the smaller attachment sizes.
    BTW Aperture does not convert...

I'm unable to duplicate your issue. Are you using the new iPhoto 11 email capability?
Try the following: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Launch iPhoto and try again.

  • Critical issue with exporting images in iPhoto 08?

I have been exporting selected photos to a thumb drive under iPhoto 06. I then take the thumb drive and put it in a pioneer palsma and go to GALLERY mode. Works fantastic and I can then review the images with my clients. Never had a problem with iPhoto 06. I upgraded to iPhoto 08 recently and export selected photos to the thumbdrive under the new upgrade. When I go to Gallery mode on the plasma the photos do not come up and it hangs up the plasma..... ??? Seems to be a problem somewhere with what "08" does with the photos? I ran a number of different test with two different thumb drives using photos from iPhoto 08 and cannot get them to work. I go back to an old iMac that was not upgraded to iPhoto 08 and both thumb drives they work fine on the plasma. In fact it is almost impossible to mess the operation up with "06". I have tried to export the photos in "08" in all the various size options and still no success. I would appreciate any help to this critical problem I am facing since I use this function of showing my images on a plasma on a daily basis . After about 10 to 12 hours of working htis problem I am totally loss as what to do. Thanks for your time.

    Thanks for your reply.
    1. I select the photos from iPhoto - varied between 5 and 20 (ran different test)
    2. Click on FILE
    3. Select EXPORT
    4. Under the FILE EXPORT tab I have tried all the various options with no success
    5. KIND - I make sure they are JPEG files - I have tried the Original also which is actually JPEG files
    6. JPEG QUALITY - I have tried all 4 options from LOW to MAX
    7. SIZE - I tried all 4 size options from SMALL to FULL
    8. FILE NAME - I use filename
    9. Select EXPORT tab
    10. I export to the thumbdrive and I chcek and they are on the thumbdrive
    11. I also tried to EXPORT to the desktop and copy them to the thumbdrive
I click on the photos on the exported images I placed on the thumb drive and they come up fine on PREVIEW on my MAC. No prroblem with the images until I try to use them on the plasma. I go back and use images from iPhoto 06 that I did not call up with the "08" program and they work fine.
Hope that explains what I do. Thanks again

  • Converting RGB images (sRGB or Adobe RGB) to 709 color space.

I'm trying to determine the correct way to convert RGB images (sRGB or Adobe RGB) to 709 color space.  I can't just use the "covert to profile" function to do this because it does not produce results that fall within the 16 to 235 range that 709 dictates.  I've read that you can simply use the "Levels" adjustment and change the output levels to 16 to 235.  While this would clearly compress the luminance to the correct range, I'm not entirely clear if the end result would be a proper conversion (i.e. if color and gamma, for example, would be technically correct.)
I noticed that converting the profile to "HDTV (Rec. 709)" does alter the image, so I'm wondering what the result would be if I did both this AND used the levels control to compress the output range to 16 to 235.
Thanks for any feedback on this.

    (1)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rec._709
    (2)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rec._601
The transfer functions for Rec.709 (1) refer to the range [0..1] or for 8 bits per pixel [0...255].
It seems that the clipping, black=16 and white=235 has to happen after the application of the
transfer function. If this should be true, then we don't have a level compression but a level
clipping at both ends, as already for Rec.601 (2), like here:
The ICC-Profile HDTV(Rec.709) in Photoshop contains the primaries and the white point
(both like that in sRGB) and the transfer functions for [0..1], coded by a LUT with high resolution,
as found by Profile Inspector. There is no clipping.
By the way, that`s the internal profile name, I don't know the file name of the profile.
Softproofing, source in sRGB, target HDTV(Rec.709), without clipping:
With numbers not preserved: no change of the appearance, as expected.
With numbers preserved: shows the effect of different effective gammas.
Your questions are very clear and I'm not sure whether my comments help. The information
in the internet is not convincing.

  • Image Processor applying Adobe RGB profile

Image Processor thru CS4 64bit is changing my CMYK files to Adobe RGB when saving as jpg.
I have 'Include ICC Profile' checked.
It is not running any other action.
Could someone enlighten me as to why this is happening please?
And if there is some code I can change to force it to retain my chosen profile?
    Hope someone can help
    Thanks

I had a look at the version that ships with CS4. There is a function named 'this.saveFile'. That function has an if statement 'if ( this.params["jpeg"] )' and finially in the if statement there is another if block... ( line 1551 )
                if ( DocumentMode.RGB != app.activeDocument.mode ) {
                    ConditionalModeChangeToRGB();
    If you change that to...
                if ( DocumentMode.RGB != app.activeDocument.mode || DocumentMode.CMYK != app.activeDocument.mode  ) {
                    ConditionalModeChangeToRGB();
The scirpt should now save your jpgs as cmyk if the doc is cmyk or rgb for other modes

  • IPhoto 5 not exporting images as jpg anymore

    Hi all
Yesterday I downloaded the trial version of Fireworks to be able to do some work on my web site. Previously to the download I could export images out of my iPhoto and have it displayed in my finder as .jpg . After downloading Fireworks the images are sent to finder with just the name I've given it with no .jpg. I've tried, in the export box, to change it to jpg when prompted but this doesn't work. Suddenly all the pictures I try to export are not accepted by my web site.
I tried loading the pictures to Fireworks and then saving them but again when looking in the finder under pictures there is no jpg, or any other attachment with the pictures.
I have since un-installed Fireworks and restarted m computer but the problem still exists.
    Any thoughts?

    Michael:
Launch Image Capture and make sure iPhoto is selected as the application to launch when you connect your camera. IC's preferences is where you make that selection. Did you run any updaters shortly before this started?
As a note if case you have iPhoto delete the memory card after the upload I suggest you do not as there have been too many cases of incomplete uploads and complete erasures. It's safer to have the camera reformat the card.
