IPhoto Not On Mac After Repair!
Hi All!
My Macbook had to go into the store on wednesday after the hard drive failed - I hadn't got round to setting up a back-up and lost all the data. I've noticed that iPhoto, iMovie etc have ALL GONE!!! I've been onto the iTunes store and they're £10 each now, but they came with my MacBook when i bought them!
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Josh
Josh, did your Mac come with MacOS X Lion or later, or with an earlier system installed? If it came with an earlier system, reinstall iPhoto from the system install disks that came with your Mac, but if the Mac came with Lion or later, you can reinstall iPhoto and other iLIfe apps from the App Store, see this document:
OS X: About OS X Recovery
Scroll down to the section:
"Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X"
If your computer came with OS X Lion or later and you erase your hard disk and install OS X, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start (up) from OS X.
Choose App Store from the Apple menu.
Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

Iphoto not working properly after installing snow leopard...
the two main problems are...
1) when editing in full frame, if I zoom in on the photo and try to move around with a two finger scroll, there is a big delay between me moving to where I want to be and the photo actually getting there.
2) when editing with "adjust," there is a delay when changing anything (such as highlights and shadows).
everything was perfect and happened in real time prior to installing snow leopard. when I called apple, I was told it was probably because iphoto is not 64-bit yet (would have been nice to have known that this would be an issue prior to the install). he said that if everything on my computer was added after snow leopard, I would probably be fine.
can anybody give me some advice on what to do here? I wouldn't mind going back to leopard if I can do that without losing everything, but am very open to ideas if anyone here has anything on this.
side note...safari seems to be having issues as well. takes a long time to load pages and sometimes won't be able to open them without closing out and reopening it a time or two. wasn't a problem before either.
thank you,
seanI am having a similar(?) but perhaps distinct problem. My wife and I have separate user accounts on our MacBook. We were sharing the same photo library under Leopard with no problems whatsoever. Now, after installing SL, there is a strange situation. If I am in my account, and I import images from a camera into iPhoto, I am able to view and edit with no problems. However, when my wife launches iPhoto, she can see the event and the thumbnails in the event, but when she tries to edit the picture or even preview in iPhoto (clicking the space bar), the picture becomes a blank dark screen. If you hit add face while on the blank screen, the program can pick out the faces, but the picture is still blank.
If I try to import photos into the library when she is using her user account, the reverse applies to me. That is, I can only preview and edit pictures added under my account, and not hers.
I never had this problem with Leopard or with iPhoto '09 under Leopard. Any ideas what might be going on? I would think to go the genius bar, but I am not sure what they woudl be able to do about it. Thanks in advance. -
IPhoto not syncing albums after email change
A few months ago I changed my Apple ID email address but I forgot to sign out of iCloud on my mac. A couple of days ago I finally did that and when I started up iPhoto it appeared to be re-syncing the iCloud album streams. All the albums are there but almost all of them are empty. The strange thing is that the albums are all there on my other devices and even browsable on my Apple TV.
So how do I get my mac's iPhoto to re-download all the photos from PhotoStream?
I'm using a mid-2010 mac with Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1but I don't understand why they would not show up on iPhoto but can still be viewed on my Apple TV.
They have to be downloaded to your Mac again from iCloud.
If the photo streams do not reappear, try if removing the content of this folder will help: It contains the photos downloaded from the shared streams. Perhaps one photo is corrupted.
~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/
Quit iPhoto
Move the folder above from your User Library to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.
Your user library is hidden by default. To open the hidden User Library:
Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.
In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folders Application Support, then iLifeAssetManagement ... -
ILife not in Mac after reformatting.
Recently I had to reformat my Mac as it was corrupted, and after that, applications which I had previously such as iMovie and Garage Band were gone.
My Mac didn't have a CD with it, and it isn't under 'Purchased' in the Apps Store. I got the Mac in April 2012, the OS is 10.7.5, and it's partitioned with Windows.
Is there anything I can do to retrieve the iLife applications?Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
iLife applications don't come preinstalled with OS X, so that's completely normal.
As you can't find iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand on Purchases, they are hidden. To unhide them, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
After unhiding them, go to Purchases and download those applications -

After repairing permissions, in Mac OS X, I ask the utility to verify permissions again and the same problems are shown, as if I had not repaired anything. What's happening?
What you are seeing are messages. It's ok.. it won't do any good to repeatedly repair permissions. As long as you see Repair Permissions Complete when it's finished, you are good to go.
Also, if you see any messages that say: SUID: That can be ignored.
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore
Keep in mind, the only time you need to repair permissions is for troubleshooting. -

16 mo young Mac Pro will not turn on. Dead. Why. No problems ever! Installed Yosemite and did not boot up after. Did that kill it? To young to die. What happened?what do I do now??????? Help!
Note that you don't have a Mac Pro as stated. Your profile says you have a MacBook Pro. Please clarify as they are entirely different computers. If nothing below works for you, then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
IPhoto not working after Time Machine backup on new MacBookPro - HELP!!!
I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 w/ 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K540)
Backed up from Time Machine to load all my files from my old MacBook Pro which seemed to work fine for all applications except for iPhoto.
At launch of iPhoto, I get
1. "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto."
2. After clicking upgrade (I'm running on all current software), I get "There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto library. Do you want iPhoto to repair permissions for this library for you?"
3. After clicking upgrade and typing in my password, I get "iPhoto was unable to repair permissions for the library." and iPhoto quits.
I've held Option/Command when launching iPhoto and have clicked all boxes and the problem still persists.
How can I get to my photos?See Old Toads suggestion and settings for using BatchMod here

My Iphoto does not work properly after downloading Maverick. How can I fix it ?
With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you mean by not working properly? Explain in detail.
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

Mac will not start up after software up date, just screen with Apple logo and spinning icon? I have tried safe start up, unplugged all other cables, no luck?
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update. -
Why does iPhoto quit every time after I say do not delete the photos from the camera after downloading?
I have not have this issue before. I have iphoto 9.1.1. (531) and Lion OS. I connect the camera to iphoto and started to download the photos. Everything got downloaded up till when the iphoto asks if i want to delete or keep the photos. I say keep and click when at this moment iphoto quits unexpectedly. I start iphoto with option and command and click on rebuild the library and examine and repair permissions. I also deleted cache and looked in the preferences folder but could not find anything starting com.apple.iphoto.
Then it works again however until I start again. I also tried to download individual photos where it works for some and for some it quits. here is the error message:

There is a problem on my mac mini. I install windows7 in my mac then i cancelled the installation did not finish..after that i saw the black screen on my monitor untill now the monitor is black..
It maybe trying to boot from the incomplete install.
Try starting your Mac while holding down the Option key, it should then list all the available boot drives including the Mac OS X one. Boot from the Mac one and then you can wipe the damaged PC one or set the Mac to stay booting in to OS X. -
I would like to download the new iOS, however when I go to do that, a message tells me that I cannot because I need 4.6 GB of storage in order to install it. I only currently have 864 MB of storage available on my 16 GB iPhone 5s.
The storage problem would be fairly easy to solve through deleting photos and/or videos, as the Photos & Camera app shows a current usage of 5.7 GB. I am perfectly comfortable deleting photos off my iPhone if I know that they will remain in iPhoto on my Mac. However, when I select photos to delete, the phone warns me that the photo(s) will also be deleted from Photo Stream on all my devices. I tested this with some photos I didn't care about (whether or not they got permanently deleted from all devices), and it is perplexing, because even though the iPhone warned me that the photos would be deleted on other devices, they have not deleted out of iPhoto on my Mac. I even Quit iPhoto and re-started it, but the photos are still there. Why would the iPhone claim that the photos would be deleted from other devices, but yet clearly the photos are not being deleted from my other device? This leaves me confused and unsure.
Meanwhile, if I select a bunch of photos then click Delete, the phone warns me that SOME photos will also be deleted from Photo Stream on all my devices.
I am very annoyed by the ambiguity of the word "some," and not being able to know for sure whether or not photos I delete off my iPhone will still remain in iPhoto on my Mac.
I would just like a really clear answer if possible: currently all my iPhone photos are showing up in iPhoto on my Mac. If I delete photos off of my iPhone, will they or won't they be deleted from iPhoto on my Mac?
Thanks if anybody can help.xcwomac wrote:

If the Photos have been moved into the Library (Events, Photos, Faces, Places) in iPhoto on your Mac (either because you did it manually or as a result of iPhoto > Preferences > iCloud > Automatic Import being on) then nothing you do on the phone will delete them from iPhoto on your Mac.
If the Photos are ONLY in the Shared - iCloud section of iPhoto then you risk losing them as deleting them from Photo Stream will delete them from there. -
