  • IPhoto "updating" Issues

Each and every time that I OPEN iPhoto I get the following message: "Updating thumbnails ...". I always let it finish.
Each and every time that I QUIT iPhoto I get the following Message: "Updating library ...". I always let it finish.
I have used iPhoto Library Aid. I chose and ran each option in the order presented (i.e., repair permissions, rebuild thumbnails,
    repair database, and rebuild database).
I read through prior discussions that I found by doing a search on these forums (forum search results), but did not find anything that helped me to resolve the issue--probably because I don't understand what I'm reading.
What can I do to troubleshoot?
Any and all recommendations/suggestions welcomed and appreciated; even if it means reading that the behavior is normal and, thus, does not require a "fix".

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto update issue July 2012

i tried to update iphoto and it got stuck at 99%... for hours..

Back at this abgain.  The version of iPhoto I have on the newer Mac Book is 9.3, and was last updated (automatically) on 13 JUN 2012.
The older version, operating on OS 10.6.8, is version 9.0, and was last autoupdated on 26 MAY 2012.
To recap, both versions of iPhoto are displaying issues.  I rovided screen shots last night from the older version, 9.0.
Following is a series of screen shots to demonstrate what appears when attempting to open iPhoto on the OS LION system, iPhoto version (9.3).
The timeout wheel spins indefinately until I select "QUIT" and close the window.  Nothing happens, unless I select upgrade.  If I do that, a series of status bar windows appear.  Sequencing fairly quickly through 1-9 steps.  I estimate it takes about 60 seconds for the status bars to cycle through "Steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and then on STEP 9, this window appears.
The timeout wheel continues indefinately--until you "FORCE QUIT" the process.
If you attempt to open iPhoto again, the update status bars appear again, and cycle through all 1-8 steps, terminating at the identical window as above.  The cycle is unbreakable.
Does this help?  Any additional instructions?

  • Iphoto app update issue

I had my hard drive replced under Apple's warranty.  I used time machine to restore my software.  Smooth as silk until I was notified by the App Store that I had 2 updates available.  The first was a Mountain Lion update.  I installed it without a hitch.  The second was an iPhoto update version 9.4.2 dated November 1, 2012.
When I hit install, I get this message:
'You have updates available for other accounts"
"To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it"
IPhoto came with my original OS and has only been updated using one account.
Any ideas?  Should I pull an older version off of time machine and try an update after that?

Seems that when Apple reloaded the OS, it loaded iPhoto 11.  I did not originally have that version on my mac.  I just went ahead and upgraded it for $15.  No biggie.

  • My new iPod Classic will not sync with my new Mac Book. My iPhone 5 does, so does 2nd gen. iPod touch. Apple Store cannot figure it out. Tried different Classics on different Macs, same thing. iTunes update issue ?

The iPod Classic I bought a month ago is not synching with my new Mac Book I bought 3 weeks ago. All the software was immediately updated. My iPhone 5 synchs fine, and so does my 2nd generaton iPod Touch. The original computer I synched all of these devices on was my HP latop. I bought my Mac and Classic to the Apple Store for a 'Genius Appt' and they could not figure out what the problem is. The connected my Classic to another computer and the same thing happens. It says device is not recognized. They also took other iPod Classics and connected them to my Mac and other Macs. The same thing was happening. They took notes and said it probably is an iTunes update issue.
I can manually drag songs into my Classic but I lost all playlists because it cannot be backed up as well and they had to restore it. For now I am holding on to it but it's usless to me if I cannot use it the way I liked too. I used it for the gym and bike riding and my last iPod battery died after 6 years. A charge would last 45 miutes. I love the Classic for what I use it for but it's a $275 brick to me now. At least the renewed by receipt so I can get a full refund.
Is anyone else seeing this issue ? The Apple Store employee said he saw a first generation iPad havng the same issue. As of now the Support Dest is unaware of this. As much as I love my new Mac I am disappointed I cannot sync my new Classic to it. Total bummer.
    Any help would be apprecated.

By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.

  • IPhoto update from iLife06 won't open HP Scans. Help?

I decided to install iLife06 and had instant problems. I have a 2.5 Dual G5 running 10.3.9. and am using an HP 4890 scanner. Prior to installing the iPhoto update as part of iLIfe06, everything worked fine. I would scan a photo and transfer it to iPhoto and open it and work on it and whatever. Now...scans won't open in iPhoto. No matter how I try to sneak the scan into iPhoto, (via Preview, etc.), it won't open, freezes and has to be force quit. Reinstalled HP software to no avail. All the prior scans done on the same HP 4890, that were already in iPhoto, open fine, but new ones....nada. Had issue with iWeb too, not happy with this iLife06...how do I get rid of it, get back the old iPhoto, and back to serenity? If I use the original disks can I just install the old iPhoto?

    Hi redcatres,
I do not know the answer of why the scans are not opening in iPhoto. Do you scan and save to a folder (not the iPhoto Library folder), then import into iPhoto?
To get back to iPhoto 5, you would really need a backup of the iPhoto 5 Library folder that has not been updated to version 6 in order to keep your metadata such as comments and keywords, and also all your albums, slideshows, books.
You can go back to 5 if you do not have a version 5 backup, but you will have to reimport your photos and lose your metadata.
    Steps:
    To reinstall iPhoto 5
Drag the iPhoto Library folder in the Pictures folder to the desktop and rename it it iPhoto 6 library
Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash
Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all iPhoto receipts to the trash
Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash.
Insert your iLife 5 CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install. You will have to keep ongoing through the steps of the install before you get to the screen where you can choose a custom install.
    Install iPhoto.
Run Software Update and update iPhoto to the latest version of 5
Put your backup iPhoto 5 library in the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.
If you do not have a backup iPhoto 5 library:
Open the iPhoto 6 library folder on the desktop
-double click the iPhoto Library folder on the desktop to open it
-the two main folders you will need to import are the Original folder and the Modified folder (only if you want to import the edited images).
-the Originals folder has all your originals photos unedited. the Modified folder has all images that you have edited, rotated, cropped, etc.
-Drag these two folders to the desktop
-If you want to save the edited image, find it in the roll in the Modified folder and drag it into the roll of the same name in the Originals folder. It will replace the originals and now will be the original.
-If you don't care to save any edited images, then don't import the Modified folder into iPhoto or don't bother replacing the edited image with the original image like I just described.
-If you import the Originals folder into iPhoto you will have all your originals in their named rolls.
-If you import the Originals and Modified folders into iPhoto, you will have all of the being in the originals folder in the finder. The roll with the same name as the other will have a _1 appended to it's name (in the finder)
-the roll from the originals will be next to the same roll from the Modified folder within iPhoto. You can then delete any of the images from there if you want.
I know this might sound confusing but it really isn't.
Get back if any of this sounds like something you might want to do.

  • After iPhoto update some photos go black when trying to edit them and am unable to edit those photos

After iPhoto update some photos go black when trying to edit them and am unable to edit those photos. How do I fix this as this is the latest update?

If I hold down the Option key while launching iPhoto, I get the option to start a new library. Do I have to import all my thousands of photos into the new library?
In his original post the poster referenced the following. As to the new Library, see the end.
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. *Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. *Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. *A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. *A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. *A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *If none of these help*:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto Update Gliche

I have just downloaded and installed the new Iphoto update, all 1.2gb of it, yet the Mac store still shows it as an update available, even theough the little grey box says that it is already installed.
Support has told me to clear the Updated Folder in the library, which I have done, but the update still shows as available.
Anyone else with the same issue or anyone with a solution ?
    Cheers

    Sounds like another indexing problem.

  • IPhoto update 'paused'

My recent (last week) iPhoto update is 'paused' and will not complete.  I see other users have had the same issue recently.  Being new to Apple, I am not clear on what to do to resolve this.  Is there a task manager in the Apple environment whereby I can stop the update task?  Thanks in advance...

I found this fix for the App Store pause/lock at MacIntouch.com:
    Brian S
Re:"Is Apple hiring stupider coders, or is this just the way software goes, getting more complex and yet less intelligent?"
A few days ago a sign-in to the App Store app failed for me ( as a developer I use several Apple IDs for testing and it had saved one of my testing IDs but needed to do software updates for my primary ID ). My primary Apple ID works for iTunes and signing in via Apple's various web pages, so the failure was surprising. The sheet window sign-in appears and after entering the id/password and pressing enter, the window clocks ( SPOD ) and doesn't return to confirm success or failure.
After a long search and checking the machine (verifying keychain certs and a lot of other stuff), I discovered the following:
The App Store app has a debug menu that may be turned on via:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    in Terminal.app.
The 'Reset Application' debug menu option solved my problem. Maybe this will help someone else.
    Might be worth a try.

If anyone out there can help me I would really appreciate it, if not is it possible to remove 10.5.8 and revert back to 10.5.7?

    Thanks theonlydean.
Sorry should have clarified the library thing. The error log for Wall E mentioned unable to locate library, unable to see image. I only bought game 3 weeks ago and it worked fine until update. Have emailed THQ and there are no patches available.
Thanks for bluetooth info, I had seen update but hesitant to update again considering issues at hand.
    Will update now.
Is it possible to revert back to 10.5.7, 5 year old autistic son is desperate for game and I see it as my only option at this point.
    Thanks.

  • IMovie/iPhoto updates won't install in Mavericks

    Hi all,
Since my upgrade to Mavericks last year, two updates have been pending in my software update screen: iMovie and iPhoto (it currently wants to upgrade to versions 10.0.4 and 9.5.1, respectively). However, I am not allowed to upgrade according to the App Store. The updates have been there forever and they annoy me a little bit because of the "updates are available" notification. I finally decided to do something about it today by posting this question.
When I click the update button of either app, the app store first tells me that "The update is not available with this apple ID". Which makes me wonder why they appear as updates in the first place. It's not like I have two ID's or anything. When I click "ok", a different message appears: "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (null)".
I hope someone can help me with this issue. It is good to note that I'm from the Netherlands but I've bought an iLife '11 license in the USA when I was there for a few months in 2011 (I had an early 2008 MacBook at that time; Yes, that old white thing). The versions of the software that I'm currently running are iMovie '11 version 9.0.9 (1795) and iPhoto '11 version 9.4.3 (720.91). Furthermore, I'm on a 2013 MacBook Air 13" bought in September 2013 before the Mavericks upgrade and the great freebee deal (I cried a lot). I upgraded to Mavericks and then the update issue appeared. I can update all the other stuff without any problems.
    Any thoughts anyone?
    Regards,
    CounterDesk

To complete my information: I bought a family license on DVD in the USA. I'm not sure where this DVD is at the moment, it got lost in time I guess. The country associated with my Apple ID is the Netherlands. I can't see either iPhoto or iMovie in the Purchases section of the App Store.
I contacted Apple Support as you guys suggested. They checked my account and couldn't find any purchase information. I'm now being referred to the Apple Care people. I now also realise that I never installed the DVD on this Mac. I just presumed that the purchase transferred through my Apple ID.
One thing that does not make sense to me is that I cannot buy iMovie and/or iPhoto. It only allows me to start the updating process while the actual updating is not allowed a few moments later. That's why I thought that the license transferred in the first place...
I'm a computer scientist and this has been my greatest IT mystery so far

    Hi,
I scoured the web looking everywhere for a solution to this.
    Exit Code 15
OSX 8.5 with Work@Home DVD media for CS6
I followed instructions to run 3rd party cleaner software
I tried the adobe removal tool
removing all copies of adobe software manually
installing from a new account, safe mode, plist everything suggested that i found did not work.
A colleague suggested that removing the below folder would allow the installation:
    /Library/Application Supports/Adobe
They turned out to be correct, so i am passing this on, because this took far too many hours of my time.
    Cheers,
