IPhoto upgrade with Yosemite

I'm getting a message that iPhoto is locked or my disk is locked after upgrading to Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6. How do I unlock or fix this issue?

Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

We just recently upgraded to yosemite and upgraded iPhoto and now it won't recognize the pictures stored on our external hard drive.  We have all our pictures stored there because the memory on the mac isn't big enough but now it won't pull them up when we go to File/Switch to Library.  I've got iPhoto 9.6.  Help please!

It's connected through a USB port.  Hmmm let me try to see what format it is in.  When I click on the info it says it is in that format (with case-sensitive in there).  It is a 1 TB drive with 102 GB remaining.
That is the problem - the iPhoto library must be on a drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - you need to move it to a correctly formatted drive and hopefully it had not been permanently damaged by being on an incorrectly frmatted drive

  • IPhoto compatibility with Yosemite

I just upgraded to Yosemite today and now I can't open iPhoto. When I try to, it says it's not compatible with Yosemite and I need to upgrade in the App Store. I don't have a problem upgrading iPhoto but I want to make sure that I can without losing my photos. Does anyone know?
    Thanks.

Lanny, I realize that there is a software update for iPhoto. I just want to make sure that I can run the update without losing my photos. Allan, I have Time Machine set up and run backups regularly. Would that be sufficient should I have a problem updating iPhoto?

I have just upgraded my iMac from a 10.8 to a 10.10 with OS X Yosemite and have lost Microsoft Word.  Is there any way to retrieve my lost documents and what is a replacement for the microsoft word program?  When I try to open a word document  a notice comes up informing me 'you can't open the app "Microsoft Word" because PowerPC apps are no longer supported'.  Are there any options here?  Appreciate any info.

  • IPhoto, Upgrades, and Yosemite

I have iPhoto  9.5.1 .  I can upgrade it through the App Store, assuming the upgrade is iPhoto and NOT Photo for Yosemite (I don't have Yosemite - was concerned about the issues I read about).  BUT I have additional  iPhoto libraries on two external hard drives - how do I upgrade these?  I was going to put the entire set of libraries on one drive.  Should I do that and THEN upgrade the iPhoto? I have loaded the photos onto cloud servers as well (I don't want to lose them) so have back ups covered.
    Any advice for me?

You upgrade any and every library the same way: by opening it.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
As for what you read about Yosemite: go back and read what they said about whatever version of the OS you are running... Remarkably similar you'll find.

  • Problem opening original iPhoto files with Yosemite

On my iMac I have Yosemite. iPhoto works but iPhoto Original apps in Applications will not open. Told to update but I have and iPhoto is now
9.6   Earlier apps still do not open. This is the message I always get. Any fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Ok I went to the location and found this:
    mac/library/application support/adobe/plug-ins/cs3/file formats/dng_cameraraw_4-6_091708.dmg
It turns out that it was here all along - I put in camera raw as two words and not one when I asked the finder and I put the exact name of the camera raw update so you can see it.
I must still be doing something wrong as its still not reading the NEFs from either my Nikon D700 or the NEFs from a D200 that I had before I switched to the D700.
I will go and check the path again - I do not know what else to do.

  • IPhoto upgrade with Lion

I upgraded to Lion but iPhoto did not upgrade from '09 to '11.  Check for Updates does not recognize that I have the old version.  Is there any way to force the upgrade?

No, you can only get it from AppStore.
It's part of iLife 11. You could also buy iLife 11 - DVD.

  • Can´t Print with my Xerox 3100 MFP till I upgrade to Yosemite

Till I upgrade with Yosemite, on my Mac book or my e-mac it appears no more possible to use my printer Xerox 3100 MFP.
I try the last driver disponible at Xerox for Mountain Lion but ... it stops during printing with a message "filter failed".
    It was working with Mavericks.
Anybody have an idea ? A compatible driver ?

You may need HP driver update 2.7.

  • I have OS X 10.9.5, what do I lose if I upgrade to Yosemite?

I have a MacBook Pro 15" late 2013, 2.6 GHz with 16GB Memory and running OS X v10.9.5. The hard disk is 1TB with 453.74 GB available. I was going to upgrade to Yosemite but read there were some problems with it, e.g. running slowly and not working well with some programs. So I thought I would upgrade to Mavericks but it is now impossible to do so. The App store does not have it any more. So if I want to upgrade I have to go to Yosemite. I want to know if I can still use my programs and games etc. Is Yosemite still compatible with most programs? Does anyone know programs that won't work with Yosemite?
    Thanks

You might want to check out RoaringApps web site at http://roaringapps.com/apps - they have an extensive list of which apps work on which OS X version. I'm in the middle of testing out what does and doesn't work in Yosemite compared to MountainLion on a MacBook Pro system. I installed on a spare external USB drive so that I can go easily back to Mountain Lion on the internal drive if I have problems or don't like it (just change which disk the system boots from). Not sure yet if I'm gonna take the real plunge into Yosemite permanently or not. It's definitely much different than MountainLion.
By the way if you have OS X 10.9.5 - that is Mavericks isn't it? (Did you mean to say you now have 10.8.5 - which is Mountain Lion) Yosemite is OS X 10.0.x and MountainLion is OS X 10.8.x.
So if you really do have 10.9.5 now, you don't have to worry about being able to re-install Mavericks if you do a full TimeMachine backup BEFORE upgrading with Yosemite install. Yosemite install/upgrade will put all the apps that it knows don't work with Yosemite into a special "Unsupported Software" folder for you (along with various libraries and any other components that the installer doesn't think will work). One thing I discovered is that not everything is saved when you do a full TimeMachine backup - there are exclusion lists that TimeMachine knows about (there is more than one way a file can be in these exclusion lists - three that I can think of off the top of my head include:
        1. having the attribute "com_apple_backup_excludeItem = 'com.apple.backupd'
        2. Being in the file /Volumes/Time\ Machine/Backups.backupdb/*/Latest/.exclusions.plist
-- this only happens if you have already done a TimeMachine backup (otherwise the
           Backups.backupdb folder won't exist)
        3. Being in the list of excluded items in the TimeMachine System Preferences pane (click on the Options button in
              TimeMachine System Preference pane)
So take a look at all these (there may be other mechanisms - so maybe others have ideas -- basically if a file is important on your system, make sure it's in the backups before taking the plunge into Yosemite, in case you decide to change your mind at a later date.
    Good luck...

I recently upgraded to Yosemite. Yesterday when I opened up the iPhoto (which I have it in my external drive due to the size of file) I get the message that it is not compatible with the new system(or something like that) and ask me to upgrade so I did. Then another message pops ups and asked for rebuilding the Thumbnails. So I clicked rebuild. Next it asked me to do one of three things(I can't remember all of them) so I chose the last one which is to download a photo to iPhoto. Now I only have that photo I downloaded in iPhoto file but not the rest of my pictures. The iPhoto library which is stored in my EHD shows it has 349GB but it only show one thumbnail of the last picture I downloaded after the rebuild process. What can I do to recover the rest of the file?
