IPod 3rd Gen bricked after attempted restore???

I have a 3rd Gen iPod that was originaly formated for windows. I wanted to format it for the mac using the "restore" in iTunes on my mac. There was some issue, iTues said it was unable to update the firmware. Next thing I know is that the iPod restarted itself and I saw the usual progresion bar at the bottom after a firmware update. After all that the ipod will not move past the apple logo startup screen. The hard drive continues to spin (until the battery dies). Connecting it to a computer does nothing. iTunes doesn't see it and neither does Disk Utility. Resetting the ipod just brings it back to the spot in the software where it hangs up again. I feel as if I already know the answer that it's now a door stop (not even a good one)

Sorry for the curt/short explanations, but I am very frustrated.
My computer recognizes my iPod. iTunes does not.
iTunes does not recognize my other nano (2gb) or my friends shuffle. However, when my friend's shuffle is plugged into the computer, the iTunes window will pop up though I still can't see the actual device. On my nano and video, iTunes does not pop up.

I have specified and changed the letter pathway of not only my iPod but my other usb peripherals.

I have "reinstalled" the COM Interface about 5x after various changes.

I have downloaded the recent iPod updater and that dealt with my iPod JUST FINE and then ran iTunes.

I have selectively chose the with processes are on the startup.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

IPOD 3rd Gen not recognized by itunes on firewire but it does on USB

Hi,
I have a 3rd gen Ipod (the one with the buttons) since its release date.
It worked perfectly with FIREWIRE.
Months ago i restore it and now it's a mess.
I have to connect it via USB to sync it with my itunes library, to
delete music, to add new one, or use it as a hard disk. But,
the battery doesn't charge (actually the battery now only lasts for 1 hour)
If i want to charge the battery i have to connect the ipod to the computer
via FIREWIRE, but it doesn't get recognized by itunes, so i cant update
it.
I wanted to restore the ipod but if i connect it via USB, itunes send me a message
that i have to connect it via firewire in order to restore it. But if I connect it
via FIREWIRE i can't restore it because ITUNES doesn't recognize it.
I hope someone can help me.

IPod 3rd Gen Not Connecting to Windows AT ALL

i have an iPod 3rd Gen 10gb. I use firewire to connect it to my iPod. When i connect it, it shows that it is charging but that is all. my computer won't recognize it at all. i tried a new cable, a new firewire card, i bought a USB cable, reinstalling iPod software and iTunes, the 4 R's obviously not restoring cuz it wont connect. i basically tried everything but no luck. any help would be appreciated.

Do you use iTunes 7? If so please read the Topic I posted. Apperently I got the same problem with a new Nano. I discovered that when you attach the iPod DURING a Windows XP reboot it WILL WORK and see the iPod ...... until you disconnect again.

Ipod (3rd gen.) does not mount to iTunes

My ipod (3rd gen.) does not mount on iTunes (using a Mac). When plugged in, it appears on my desktop as if it were a jump drive.
I was planning on re-formatting it with Disk Utility but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I also realised that the Format is listed as Windows NT File System (NTFS) when I have the disk utility window open. If I need to format with Disk Utility, what format option should i choose? (i.e. Mac OS Exteneded (Journaled), Mac OS Extended etc.)

Now when I connect the Ipod to my Mac, it mounts as a Device on iTunes. I want to sync only a few items from my library onto this iPod - when I attempt to do this (by either adding the specific music to the "music" section on the iPod or creating a playlist and using Autofill to fill the iPod), the iPod says that it has Synced but when I disconnect the iPod, there is no music on it. Old iPod 3rd gen not showing up in iTunes

Hi, I realize this may be a futile effort but I thought I would give it a try.
I have an old ipod, 3rd gen 15GB that still works fine, stores a lot of music and plays fine. I would like to update and restore it. I have the old computer I used it with, an iBook G4 OSX 10.4.11 running iTunes 8.2.1, the most updated it can get for this computer I think.
Im just wondering how I can restore the ipod and put mp3s on it. It doesnt show up in itunes but appears to be charging when I plug it in with the old firewire cable. its working ok to the best of my knowledge and I would like to do a hard reset or something but I cant figure out how. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like your iPod isn't showing in iTunes when you connect it to your Mac. I would start with this bit from the following article:

IPod 3rd Gen Backups?

My close to 1-year iPod just "died" a few moments ago in a sense that I was just using my apps as I normally would and the screen just dimmed. I tried syncing, charging, and turning it back on but none of which proved successful so I checked my warranty and I'm still clear to get a replacement. This happened with my brother's iPod (3rd Gen as well) a couple of weeks back as well and we simply got his replaced but he pretty much set up everything again.
Now my main concern here is:
What about all my data on my iPod? I'm aware that whenever I sync there is a backup but I'm curious if it also backs up information like notes and certain application data since I have a lot of important information typed up. Also, how will I transfer the old data onto a new iPod if the backup does contain the above?

How to Connect iPod 3rd Gen to Mac Mini

I have two iPod 3rd gen's but can not connect it to my Mac Mini due to the sync cable which connects to firewire. I've tried looking for some type of adaptor that will allow me to connect the 3G sync cable to my mini but am having no luck.
If anyone has a suggestion or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

OK - just figured out that this is a 2nd generation ipod (20GB). It has a firewire port at the top with a cover over it. I just got off the phone with Apple Tech support and they suggested I try the forums, etc. They didn't know how to connect this ipod to a USB port. Anyone have any ideas?

Loading songs on ipod 3rd gen nano without itunes

is there a way to get songs onto the new Ipod 3rd gen nano 8GB without using Itunes? I have tried Xplay 2.3.5 and the playlist is all messed up. It would show all the songs in my hard drive on every single playlist created, even the On-the-Go list. I would hate to use Anapod because of they limited activation status. Itune is slow, and too restrictive for me. I hate itune with a passion. So does anyone know a way to get songs onto this ipod properly with Xplay or another good program? I have tried everything i know and I am able to throw this thing against the wall. thank you in advance!

I feel your pain. I have been fighting iTunes and QuickTime for 2 weeks trying to get it so that it does not interrupt my wireless USB connection when ejecting the Nano. A simple solution would be to use another program to manage the syncing of stuff to the iPod.

They will as long as you have access to the songs or the Apple ID account used to purchased those songs.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
