IPOD battery .. help  needed

i bought one 30gb ipod a month back .. ( may 26)
my IPOD battery gets charged within 2 hours !! ( the battery symbol show a "Charged" sign ) ...
also i think i am not getting the right battery life out of my ipod ( i am expecting atleast 10 hrs play .. is that ok???) ... basically my ipod drains off after around 5 - 6 hours of play ....
any suggestion on this .. is welcome

Apple used the best battery technology that was
available and for the price. I have yet to just sit
and listen to my IPOD for 13 hours straight, 6 hours
maybe but not what the battery is rated at in terms
of hours. How the songs are encoded also affect how
long the battery lasts. No two batteries are going to
give exactly the same results.
A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500
discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a
partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full
discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead,
charge the battery more often. There is no concern of
memory when applying unscheduled charges.
Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of
performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges
exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory".
Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent
recharges do not provide the periodic calibration
needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the
battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full
discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this
problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off
point in the IPOD will do this. If ignored, the fuel
gauge will become increasingly less accurate.
Simple Guidelines:
Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts
additional strain on the battery. Several partial
discharges with frequent recharges are better for
lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially
charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there
is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs
from nickel-based batteries.)

Hi
Thanks for your help. One question when you listen to it like you mentioned do you change songs frequently or just let it play?

    Hi
I did the battery test yesterday on my 30GB video as recommended. I let it play an album continually with no backlight what so ever and no equalizer. I don''t have the exact time that it took to run out but the last I checked was after 13 3/4hrs and it was still going but was deep in the red. It had add 2 accidental stoppages during this 4 about 2 mins. However I was pretty pleased with the results. I don't expect that they would have been much different with the backlight as this should have turned off after a few secs.
However I am getting pretty annoyed with the fact that just skipping about 4 songs begins to run down the battery. I haven't done a test of how long the battery will last with skipping a few songs and having the backlight, however, I have noticed significantly less than 14hrs if I do this. Is this meant to happen? And is anybody else thinking like that why didn't apple make a battery that would withstand peoples normal usage? Also does anybody know if the battery packs are any good and if they damage the internal battery?

  • I want to update my ipod 5g help needed

    hi
i am having ipod touch 5g and i want to update it from ios 6.1.3 to ios 7. is it out for ipod 5? is my ipod compatible with ios7? if ios 7 is out for ipod 5g plz send me an original apple link to update  my ipod. plz help me

To start with you don't want to update to iOS 7 yet unless you are developer because currently it is beta. As beta code it is not for us by everyone at this time. It is supposed to be released in the fall.
If you do keep looking around you will probably be able to find a site to download it now. There is every chance that installing that code now will brick your iPod.
My recommendation is to wait for the release this fall.

What do I do now? I really want to get this fixed as soon as possible. I happen to love my iPod. Please, please, someone help!

    Pippa

    Pippa,
What you describe is normal. Everytime you skip songs you fire up the hard drive. It spins, therefore drawing power. The backlight would also draw power.
Any hard drive based music player is going to have the same drawback (not really a drawback if you ask me), so it's not Apple, it's the technology.
If you are that concerned with battery life, why don't you get a Nano? It's flash based and so would draw less power to skip around. It doesn't hold as much or play video, but if battery power is you dilemma, then that's your answer.
Also, if you absolutely need the storage or video; there are solutions. I would assume that anytime you'd need to listen to music for that long, you'd be somewhere where AC power was available (unless you are flying fromm New York to Tokyo ) So that leads me to solution #1...
    1. Get an AC adapter so you can charge your iPod from a wall outlet. I'm thinking about getting one because I use my iPod at work to drown out all the distracting noise, so this would be practical for me.
If you are truly that mobile...Solution #2...
    2. Get a supplemental battery source for the last minute emergencies. I have heard nothing about them having a detrimental affect on the iPod or iPod internal batter.
If your mobility is mainly driving...Solution #3
    3. Get a car charger. Since this would be another situation where you may be away from a viable charging source for a long time, you can buy a charger, much like one for a cell phone.
    This one's a joke
    4. Don't listen to so much music Wait, that's what you bought the iPod for...forget that one.
    I hope this helps.

I bought a new laptop and can access my itunes library but when i try to add purchased playlist songs to my ipod message appears asking if I'm ok with erasing all other songs on the ipod. How do I add purchased playlist to ipod without erasing existing ipod playlists?

No, you can easily migrate your entire library from one working compter to another.
If you fail to backup or migrate your library and find yourself with nothing but a new empty computer and a device full of content iTunes is designed to only recover the iTunes purchased content, however third party tools can help recover everything if needed.

  • Wet iPod - urgent help needed

My wife just dropped her iPod Classic in a sink full of water. The iPod was in a leather case and she pulled it out immediately. What steps should I take (other then an iPod funeral)?
    Thanks

    OK, what now?
I kept the iPod warm and dry for a few days. Wife didn't want to wait a week so I plugged it into her computer and got the message that the battery was low. Left it plugged in for several minutes and then a "Sad iPod" icon appeared with "www.Apple.com/Support/iPod" below the icon. After searching around the support pages a bit I've come to the conclusion I most likely need to send the iPod to Apple for a batter replacement. Before doing that would it be appropriate to plug the iPod into its charger and let it try to recharge for an hour or so OR will there be a chance of more damage being done?
    TIA for any feedback.

  • App Store not working on 1st gen iPod touch HELP NEEDED!!!

I have a 1st Generation iPod touch and I have been using App Store very often to download apps. I do not have my iPod syched to my computer, so I cannot download apps with it. I just use my iPod's app store. Up until the other day, it has been working. I tried to download an app, but it showed no screen shots, and by tapping the price to download it, it did not do anything. It did this on every app I tried. Every time I try to download an app, it doesn't work. Is it because my iPod is so old? What is the problem?

    Try resetting the iPod..
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • IPod touch help needed

My son's ipod touch appears to be frozen. The screen just shows a continual circular pattern in the center and when I try to connect it to my computer it gives me the message "iTunes could not connect to the iPod because an invalid response was received from the device". Please help!

try resetting it. Hold down the home and sleep key, past when you see the red slider and until you see the silver apple. See if that'll reboot it.
You shouldn't lose any data or info. The reset is just a forced reboot and often clears up glitches.
If it won't reboot then you may have a bigger issue.

  • VIDEO IPOD BATTERY HELP OR DID I GET MESSED OVER AGAIN

    Hello boys and girls
my original ipod that i had for several years was stolen....after some debate and penny pinching i decided to buy an IPOD 30gig video ...great i thought..now i can have my music and meditations when i work out again
there is a radio shack nearby so i got it there...i also ..very cleaverly i thought... checked to make sure all the other stuff i had spent good money on ...docking station...fm transmitter for car...Altec speakers [great sound by the way] other stuff would work with it and the new video ipod fit perfectly into the docking station
JOY TO THE WORLD...Mother Apple had been kind to me and i was going to have music again and had told that this IPOD was much easier to use then the one i had for 4 years that got swiped..
THE JOY ENDED WHEN I GOT HOME...
First of all I discovered that the FIREWIRE card i had bought for the first IPOD was no more good...now i have to have USB 2 which of course i didn't have
since i work at night and go to school trapsing across town to get a USB 2 card and the appox $30 for it taxed me a little and reduced the sleep i got...however i was antcipating being able to use my ipod that night when i worked out
    WELL....that's when the nightmare started...
To be scientific and logical about this let me list what happened and is happening...
    1. Initially when i hooked the IPOD to a USB 1 port the coputer recognized it for about 5 sec then lost the connection. Pretty sure that was because the batteries weren't real charged
    2. i put the ipod back in the old docking station and plugged it into the old now useless FIREWIRE card...Ipod is happy it says it is charging...it charged all night an d still said it was charging
must be a very hungry iopd!! well i have lots of electricity to feed it
    3. i hooked it up to the ac adapter..still charging but FINALLY got full
    4. except now when i disconnect it from the ac adapter it goes dead...will not wake up when i connect it to the new USB 2 card Mother Apple said i needed and i staid awake to get
    5. SO NOW...am i stuck waiting FOREVER while it maybe gets repaired..unless i've just done some dumb things and can get it up and running without sending it in...
    6. will radio shack just give me another one that works...i only bought it two days ago
    7. that has been a pain you know where fromt he beginning
    8. guess i have to call Apple ..probably monday..sure they're not open today...and guess what ..it will be when i normally would be asleep 'cause i work at night
will try to post this more concisely in next msg if you read this God Bless you

I'm sorry about your troubles with your ipod , and i would imagine that radioshack would take it back , if not then send it back to apple since that kind of problem is not abuse or anything and it should be covered in the warranty.

  • ITunes and iPod, serious help needed

First of all I'm running OS X Tiger 10.4
I just got my 5th gen. iPod video today, and I sync'd it and everything, the iPod works just fine.
Although, everytime I plug it in, my iPod will be listed on the source list in the left of iTunes, it will take a few seconds to update, then my iPod icon will disappear from the Finder.
If I then click anywhere besides "My iPod" in the iTunes source bar, like Library > Music or just a simple playlist, iTunes will unexpectedly quit. The Finder though does not give me a message saying that iTunes quit unexpectedly, it just happens. During all of this the iPod does NOT say "do not disconnect" as if it was updating.
    Help is greatly appreciated.

I am not really sure as I have been playing it safe, sticking with OS 10.3.9 and iTunes version 6. Everything works, so I don't want to break it.

  • Ipod Mini Help - Need Idiot's Guide to Set Up

Help! I got an ipod mini for Xmas from my boyfriend. He loaded 500 songs onto my ipod from his ibook. However as we've split up I haven't really used it but I'm going travelling for a year (this weekend-nothing like being prepared...!) and would like to take it with me and set up play lists etc.
I haven't even connected my ipod to my laptop as I've heard that when you connect to it/itunes that yr ipod contents can be wiped if you are already registered with another PC/Mac. So basically I don't know what order I have do stuff so that I can get some tunes I like rather than listening to ex-boyf's taste in music.
Hope this makes sense - never posted on this before and am a bit of a technophobe.
