IPod Classic Song Skipping

Hello,
While changing the volume on my new iPod Classic, the song sounds like it's skipping. It used to only do this when the clock screen saver was on, but now it does it all the time. Also occasionally, it skips over the ends of certain songs.
Thank you

  • IPod classic, songs skipping halfway through or at beginning.

Certain songs will be skipped, halfway through their playback on the iPod, no matter which device I hook it up to, or the song will show up, then be skipped.  They play back fine in iTunes, so what can I do to fix this? iPod support won't help because I'm out of my warranty, and they want me to spend $29.99 just to get an answer.

I'll add that the particular songs that skip (at least 50) played just fine before.

  • How do you backup ipod classic songs to computer?

how do you backup ipod classic songs to computer? i am only seeing how to backup my itunes library. i want to backup the specific music on my ipod so that when i get a new ipod, i can just restore that music that i've already filtered from my library to what is on my ipod. thanks!

I have about 6000 songs on my itunes library and i've filtered it down to 4500 on my ipod (so far) that I like and really listen to. I don't really want to go through all of that again...

  • When ripping a CD to iTunes to sync to iPod classic, songs are not listed in sequence.  Some are missing only to find them further down the list

When ripping some CDs to iTunes to then sync to my iPod classic, songs are not listed in proper sequence.  Some are separated from CD and listed elsewhere, what gives??

You probably have you Itunes music set as list and not as albums. Go to view at the top of Itunes and check as albums.

  • IPod Classic 160GB skipping songs after a few minutes play

I've got an annoying problem with my iPod Classic 160GB.  It gets to about 3 minutes or so into a song (sometimes more sometimes less then just skips to the next one.  It's about a couple of years old (I got it as a replacement when the battery of my 120GB Classic failed) and has been excellent.
It doesn't just do it when I'm walking along - I've put it on my desk now for experimental purposes and it's the same thing.  They all play fine in iTunes.
Most of my iTunes recordings are now Apple Lossless - the lower bitrate songs and podcasts seem to play through fine.  I've hard-reset and restored the machine.
I have heard some noises coming from the hard disc - could the HDD be failing?  Very disappointed if so - and what else can be done short of converting my large iTunes library to a lower bitrate?  But that defeats the object of having the Classic's high capacity which is the ability to store and play higher quality recordings. It never did this in the past - nor on my original 120GB

I've done the iPod diagnostic tests on the HDD (select-menu then select-back) and it comes up with no errors or bad sectors.  Hmm

  • Ipod classic songs randomly skipping!!!!

So I have been having LOTS of trouble with my Ipod classic 80 GB ever since I updated iTunes and it was like my Ipod wasn't working well, I restored it and then it started to restart all by itself, iTunes would freeze while syncing and the max it  would go was upto 30 songs and then freeze! ... after doing alot of research I found many people having the same issue, and they tried using MP3 Val and it helped resolve their issue.
I too did it and all errors in the songs were fixed BUT when syncing it to Ipod again the same thing, BUT this time the songs are skipping after 10sec where as earlier it would skip like crazy!!!
I re-installed iTunes again but no use!! and yeah I have even selected the 'convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps' yet no affect!
Please guys!! some one...anyone ...PLEASEEEEE help me

Ok so I got the stats related to my Ipod's hardware..

    PowerOn Hours :520
    Starts/ stops :745
    Temp Current :28c

  • Ipod Classic occasionally skips during random songs

Hi people, hope you can help. I've tried searching for this problem in other threads but can't find my specific problem.
I got an Ipod Classic 120GB for Xmas. I have used iTunes to download music onto it. It plays ok for several tracks, then randomly it'll get partway through a track and suddenly skip to the next one. Where my problem appears to be different,is that it's not the same songs, the next time the track that skipped will play properly! I've reset the Ipod, re loaded everything using either computer in the household, and the problem still exists.
We took it back to Curry's. It was left with them to listen to, when we went back they agreed it was doing this. As it was over the 28 day period they sent it back to Apple. They have now returned it to me saying their tests did not find anything wrong, but they have put the latest software on it.
We brought it home, and you guessed it, exactly the same problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Different people have different issues.
    1. Some people have songs that "skip" but the song keeps playing -- there's just a gap or pause in the song.
    2. Some people have songs that end abruptly but another attempt to play the song works fine.
    3. Then there's my problem, in which the song ends abruptly before it's supposed to and it does it every time.
I don't know about 1 or 2, but I believe I've figured out what's going on with problem no. 3 and how to fix the broken songs. Read on.
During a mass transfer/sync of songs, iTunes "infects" about 5% of my songs with gaps in the data. The tags embedded in the file tell the iPod that Song X lasts x:xx, but when it reaches that glitch iTunes put in the data stream, the song suddenly ends and the next one begins playing (or the end-of-playlist menu comes up of it was the last song in the list). If I go back to the beginning of the a broken song, it will end at the same point. If I press the select button and scrub past the point where the song suddenly cuts off (about 30 or more seconds past the break), it will play the remainder of the song, so that data does exist on the hard drive. Also, the songs play perfectly FROM MY HARD DRIVE using iTunes or QuickTime. But the clone iTunes put on the iPod has some genetic drift, as any attempt to play that file from the IPOD's hard drive (via manually managing music and using iTunes to play the song) will result in the same abrupt end as experienced when playing through the iPod.
The fix is to delete the faulty file from the iPod and have iTunes put a fresh copy on. THERE IS NO QUICK, EASY SOLUTION. Identify the songs which end early on the iPod and uncheck them (You can't manually manage music, and you have to sync only checked songs and videos). Then sync the iPod. Then check the songs again and sync the iPod again. iTunes will put those songs back on the iPod.
Actually, it's fairly quick to fix the broken songs, but identifying the broken songs is time-consuming. I last had iTunes transfer my entire library (14.2 GB) on 4/6/2009, and I'm still going through to identify the songs iTunes failed to transfer properly. I'll need about another month.
I've reported this problem to Apple. [I recommend you do the same|http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html].

  • IPod classic 160GB skipping songs

I bought a new 160GB iPod only four days ago. I've noticed a couple of problems:
    1) When playing a playlist, the iPod will sometimes skip a song. For example, when song 1 is finished, it will play song 3. It skips only some songs, but they are always the same ones. The songs played perfectly on my 80GB 5.5G. Unless I manually select them, they won't play along in the playlist. I've tried restoring and I updated to 1.0.1 but it didn't help.
    2) I noticed the battery meter jumps all over the place when selecting different things on the iPod, especially videos. One second it was 3/4 full, the next it was 1/4, then back to half, thten it goes back to normal. Maybe it was doing that because it's a new battery, but I did calibrate it last night (fully discharge and fully charge) so maybe that fixed it. Haven't tried it yet. But has anyone else encountered this?

My iPod Classic 80G is doing something similar. At times it will not play the selected song from the list. For example, I am in the podcast directory for a video podcast and I select the Sept. 19, 2007 episode. The iPod queues up and plays the Sept. 18,2007 instead. I exit out and go back to the directory and reselect the Sept. 19, 2007 episode; Sept. 18, 2007 episode plays again. I normally have to restart the iPod in order for the desired podcast episode to play.
This also occurs with music. I select Track One and track three begins to play. Reselect track One and track three plays again.
I am running iPod Classic software 1.0.1

  • IPod Classic is skipping songs!

My daughter's 80G iPod Classic has started skipping songs on playlists, any idea why?

Can you be more specific regarding the noise it is making?
I'm having problems with this and not sure if this is normal for this size storage space - I have the 80gb and used to have the 30gb.

  • How do i copy Ipod classic songs to new computer when it says "Ipod synced with another library" and cannot find that library

Have a new PC and have a classic Ipod with about 6000 songs and had my itunes on an external HD a Maxtor One Touch II. Make a long story short the songs are not in the external HD no more songs. also looking in the C drive of the computer \My Music\itunes does not have the songs. Have checked hidden files so that I can see all the files. To make matters worse the I-tunes program on the external Maxtor was corrupted and the only way to fix it was to download a new itunes. So I wanted to repopulate the library but it appears I am not able to. Can anyone explain to me how I can copy my songs from the Ipod classic back to the library in the external HD?

I have about 6000 songs on my itunes library and i've filtered it down to 4500 on my ipod (so far) that I like and really listen to. I don't really want to go through all of that again...

  • IPod Classic 160Gb - Skipping issues

    Hi all,
Recently I have updated my iPod Classic 160gb to the new version.
    I have noticed the following:
When I push >>| (next) button to go to the next track, the next track sometimes
will start playing in the middle of that song!
All my songs are mp3, I don't know that their bitrate (192, 384 or vbr, ...)
I only noticed this behavior yesterday.
    Has anyone noticed this too?
Is there a solution for it?
I only have 4400 songs on it ....

The issues are real. A thread that had over 100 posts about itunes and the classic ipod freezing has been locked and no one can post anything more. Just to post what I have already posted:
I have a new 160 gb Silver model. The ipod and itunes frezes after it is recognized by itunes. Itunes freezes half way through the sync process when only sycning one album. It will freeze for 80 seconds and then the rest of the songs will sync. It will then freeze up again for 80 seconds, and then after all the songs are synced, it will freeze one more time before I have full use. I have tried 2 160gb ipods, I've restored and added a library. I have bought a new computer from a previous XP. My new Vista operating syatem does the exact same thing. Tech support is clueless and cannot add anything to why this is happening. I have the latest version of itunes and the latest software version for the ipod.

  • IPod Classic songs were wiped out - will not sync with iTunes

iPod Classic turned on and has zero music - somehow wiped out.  Will not sync to iTunes - iTunes freezes when iPod is connected but works fine when no iPod connected.  iPod was reset to the original date of 2000 and mostly sits with the apple logo.  iTunes has current version - tried resetting the iPod but iTunes still does NOT recognize the iPod.

Fixed it after some more fiddling - restored iPod from the frist sync a few days back, and then tried again.

  • IPod Classic 80GB Skipping songs

    Hello there,
I am facing a trouble with my iPod, there are some songs that it keeps skipping, see, it starts playing the song, and every time at the same second of the music, it just skips the song and goes to the next one of the list.
It doesn't happen with all songs, it happens only with the SAME files, and I can say that these files are NOT corrupted, cause they play normaly on my pc AND, if I press and hold the forward key on the iPod to pass through the moment that the song is skipped, it plays the rest of the song without any problem, so, it happens only in an exact spot of the file, does anyone knows what's happening?
Hope you've understood me, my english is not so good.
    Thanks for helping.

I have the same problem on my ipod 80gb classic that I purchased recently. It is VERY annoying that many files have this skipping problem on the ipod but play perfectly fine on my other mp3 players (creative/sansa etc) and on itunes...
The problem is, there is no way to know in advance which songs in your collection (huge) will skip. When I had been to the local apple store for help, they suggested that one possibility is for me to re-encode all my 80gb of music, how wonderful?? And they also started trying to give vague justifications like DRM protection issues that can cause this...asking me to reinstall itunes quick time etc...crap.
Added to this is the scroll wheel which is not so responsive...
I had some respect for apple products, and used to have the opinion they do a few (only) things but do it perfectly... but that feeling is gone, big disappointment.

  • 80gb ipod classic is skipping songs and...

My ipod is not playing full songs sometimes.
It might play a few seconds of it then it skips to the next one.
I'm noticing that all the new music i have downloaded recently are the ones that are being skipped more often.
Also, when i actually want to skip to the next song [after i press the 'next' or 'back' buttons on the ipod] it stays playing the same song for awhile before it actually skips and plays the next song.
I looked at the discussion boards and noticed that a lot of people are having the same problems. They are saying it might be the latest itunes that is causing this. Can someone please help me out here?
[oh and all the songs are working perfectly in itunes on my computer...all the problems are only occurring in my ipod]

  • Ipod 5g Song skipping problem

First posting on the forum so please bare with me.
I have recent updated my ipod firm ware to 1.1 since i purchased the radio head phones. It would seem since then and having read a number of other posting there may be a problem with this update. That said the other postings suggest turning off the album art which seems to fix the problem. Im not using this in the songs that have problems.
I have already reset and restored. both have not fixed the problem.
The only time the problem seems to go away is playing podcasts. Other wise every song or album plays for a random time then skips to the next track.
I also get a high pitch scratch as the music is playing and then skips to the next song..
    Can anyone help??????
Mini Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

After hours of reloading it would seem to have solved the problem.
    Thansk for the help
Now i need to sale the radio ear phones on ebay.
