Ipod freezes in middle of loading itunes library

After reformatting the hard drive on my Powerbook G4 drive (per Apple instruction), I reconnected my ipod clickwheel and it hasn't been working since (using Tiger 10.4 and latest version of ipod updater), mostly showing the folder & exclamation point icon. Have tried:
* Multiple resets
* Multiple restores (using several different updaters), both after and without erasing the ipod using disk utility
• Connecting to a different Mac G4 running OS 10.3.9
Right now I can get the ipod to mount in itunes and begin loading songs. But it always freezes, and at different points (i.e., it terms of which song it freezes at). The powerbook apple tech I spoke with suggested that the ipod was probably in the process of failing before I reformatted the laptop and that the stress of reloading the software onto the ipod sped up the failing process (??). I would have gladly sent the unit in for repair by now if the cost were not just a few dollars less than buying a new unit (funny that huh?). So, I'm just trying to figure out if I have to trash this unit. Is there a guru out there who can help?

It sounds like a hardware issue with your iPod. If you did perform the 5 r's:

...and still having problems, you might want to do one of the following:
Go to the nearest Apple store:

I just updated to the newest version of ITunes well, not just but a few days ago. Anyway I have windows 8, and in ITunes my Ipod 5th gen will not show up. 1. Try the iPod troubleshooting assistant:
If you haven't already done so, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant (choose your iPod model from the list).
If the issue remains after following your iPod's troubleshooting assistant, follow the steps below.
2. Restart the iPod Service
3. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
4. Empty your Temp directory and restart
5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
6. Change your iPod's drive letter
7. Remove and reinstall iTunes
8. Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items
9. Update, Reconfigure, Disable, or Remove Security Software
10. Deleting damaged or incorrect registry keys

Not true at all.
It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium.

My sons dad bought him and ipod and my niece used her itunes library to add music and videos on it. They live in another state and we have questions because we don't want him to lose all of the music or any of the apps.

The problem we are haveing is that she lives in another state and we are not sure how to manange his account without losing some of the songs and all of his apps. There are some songs that are on his ipod that are duplicates, there are some songs that he doesn't like or listen to, and there are some songs on there that I do NOT want him to listen to because of the language and the lyrics. He is 10 there are just some things I feel that he is too young to listen to.

You can use different ID's for iTunes and iCloud.
Just delete the account in settings > iCloud and create them their own account.
if the children are minors, you wiil need to create and be responsible for each account yourself.

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

Glad I helped a little... With the computer issues your having I'm out of my depth. Is you library backed up in the cloud or on an other hard drive? In order for this content to not appear grayed out, you need to enable the Manually manage music option from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. Keep in minding that manually managing your iPod's contents is different from having content automatically sync to your device from iTunes. See here for more information.

HT1567 I have new computer and my ipod won't sync with my itunes library on it.

Trying to sync my ipod with my itunes account on my new computer with no response. When I plug my ipod into my computer it doesn't sync.

How is your iPod configured to sync with your iTunes library? What options do you have enabled/configured from under the iPod's Summary and Music tabs? Perhaps this article can offer more assistance.

I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.

Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(

Syncing an iPod video gogb with my old iTunes library

I have just upgraded to an iPod video g0GB from a fourth generation 40GB model. The problem is that my computer won't recognise the new machine: I plug it in via the USB port and all that happens is that the 'Do not disconnect' notice appears and then the iPod freezes with the same screen and the backlight continuously on. And it does it appear on the Mac, nor will it reset.
I don't want to lose my iTunes library (over 450 CDs' worth of music!), but how can I get the Mac to recognise the new iPod and load this music onto it? This doesn't seem to be the problem others have had with the synchronisation freezing after a while as it doesn't ever start or, as I've said, recognise the existence of the new iPod.
Please somebody help!

Well I never. Got home tonight, the iPod was fully charged and when I plugged it in to synchronise, it worked perfectly.
Lesson is: make sure the thing's charged before you worry it's not working.

Connecting ipod to new computer and using itunes library

Can anybody help. Iam ready to throw my ipod in the bin. I recently bought a new computer and downloaded itunes onto it. When I connect my ipod it keeps saying the ipod is linked to another itunes library and it displays a new itunes library on the computer now with none of my old songs, but they are still on my ipod itself. I do not have my old computer either.
The new itunes library that comes up will let me download music onto it but wont let me sync it to the ipod so i cant put anymore tunes on it. Any ideas?

Connect your iPod to your new computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
