IPod In Car Kit

Hi, Can anyone help me. I am wanting to buy the "In car kit" for my ipod. But am I being a little thick? It is difficult to get an understanding of how this works. Do you have to have a cassette player stereo? As I have a CD player. Does anyone know it will still work? I am either missing something quite fundamental or it won't work with CD players. Please Please help me. Sarah

Sarah,
If it comes with a cassette adapter and you do not have a cassette player in the car, you cannot use that piece of equipment.

  • Interface or converter for 1st generation 10GB iPod to car kit ?

Hi, replaced my old but well doing 1st generation 10GB iPod by a new 4GB nano because the old accu is almost all down. Have as well installed a bn iPod car kit instead of my car CD player. My idea was to use the old 10GB iPod in the cars glove box, because the weary battery wouldn´t bother any more since it´s connected to the cars electric supply.
The PROBLEM is: the connecting plug of the car kit fits all new iPod models, but not to the old 1st generation iPod.
Is there a converter or sort of interface available?
Or does anybody know how to solve this?
Thanks in advance for any hint and tip! Would be a pity to use it simply as a storage HD...

Yeah, 1st gen came with Firewire port, you can try to find a firewire adapater which is not easy at all. However, you can plug an audio fm transmitter with the headphone jack of your iPod

  • Using Ipod Nano 3rd generation with car kit

Just a simple question... I recently got an 8GB Ipod Nano... want to play it in my car with the Belkin car kit. Even with the volume turned up at max on my ipod I still have to turn up my cd player volume in the car high - is this normal? Also, is FM the best frequency? Confused... just want good quality listening. Thanks

Others have asked this, and the answer I've always seen is no.

Thanks for the fast reply! Does this mean that I can load songs from the eMac running 10.3.9 to the WINDOWS formatted iPod? It seems not-- it sounds like I must first transfer all my music / photos / videos that are in iTunes on the eMac to the IBM Windows PC and THEN copy them to the iPod. Is that correct?
AND I believe the PC only has USB 1.0 - so that will be slow, eh?
BUT I guess I could preload a LOT of stuff onto the iPod from the eMac and then just let my daughter enjoy-- no need for her to connect to the PC, just enjoy the nearly 30 gb of "stuff"--
Thanks for any comments-- I'm told that the iPod WILL RECHARGE via the USB 1.0 port on the PC-- but if it is formatted for MAC will the iPod still recharge? (Trying to avoid a separate iPod recharger as my daughter overseas for 4 months, and the fewer things she has to lose, the better...!)

  • IPod Touch (2G) TomTom Car Kit Issues

I have an iPod Touch (2G) and have been successfully using the TomTom Car Kit for all my navigation needs for the last 14 months.
Recently, around the same time they announced a "mandatory update to restore GPS signal" on their website, my TomTom app stopped receiving a GPS signal.  Now when I contact TomTom support, they tell me that all their kit does is amplify the iPod's internal GPS receiver (???) and that this is an iPod issue.  I have reset my iPod and reinstalled the app with no success.
    Am I missing something?

There is no GPS circuits on the iPod touch. Period. For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. See:
    iOS 5: Understanding Location Services
Therefore what you were told does not sound reasonable for the iPod.
You are using the accessory that does include a GPS receiver, right?

  • Ipod nano with car kit

I have just fitted an Alpine car kit to play my nano in the car, but although the track info is coming through on the head set, i get no sound!
We've tried another nano and it works fine.
    any ideas?

Try turning the volume up on your iPod.
You may also want to reset the iPod while it is connected to the system...

Also, this system connects to your iPod via the dock connector, right?

  • New ipod update breaks Mopar Jeep integration car kit

I updated to iTunes 7 and did the ipod update on my 5G ipod that came with it. It has broken my Mopar ipod Jeep Integration kit to listen to my ipod in the car. I get the message from the car that says "update firmware," which I assume means that the car can't recognize the new firmware. I'm downgrading now, but what I want to know is, are future ipod updates going to break my car kit every time? Is it something apple can fix or mopar? Does anyone have this problem with their car integration and ipod updates? Also, can I run iTunes 7 with the last working version of firmware, or will I lose the new movie and game features? Any other stories/workarounds/information would be great, the documentation with the Mopar kit is horrible...

I downgraded to the last ipod update by downloading it from apple and don't seem to have any problems with iTunes 7 or my car now, aside from iTunes telling me my ipod isn't up to date yet. I still would like to know if I will ever be able to update my ipod again or if I am "stuck" with this version of the ipod software? I don't like that I can't update it again without it breaking my car integration. Hopefully they fix that in next release.

  • BT car kit hijacking iPod playback.

Hi there. I have a handsfree BT unit from car-kit.com installed. Back with the 3.0 firmware, everything worked just peachy. I would have the iPhone plugged into the auxiliary port of the car to listen to music. If a call came in, the music would pause and the call would be put through the BT. When the call ended, the music would resume playing through the aux port.
Since upgrading from the 3.0 software (quite some time ago), this no longer works. The iPhone will be playing music through the aux port, a call will come in through the BT, but when the call is finished - the music will resume through the BT (in horrific mono sound quality). I have to manually switch the audio source back to headphones every time.
It's gotten obnoxious enough that I simply no longer use the BT functionality on the phone - I'll just wait until I've parked to check who called me. Has anyone encountered this or heard of anyone who has? Is it simply a firmware issue, a quirk between this firmware and this particular BT device, or some combination thereof?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Many users have faced this issue; It's a combination of iPhone firmware / BT device. Nothing you can do about it at the momment, I guess, but for wait for the next iPhone firmware in the next months.

  • Cover that will work on touch while using tomtom car kit

    Hi,
JUst got a Tomtom car kit, and trying to find if there is a cover that will fit the touch while its in the tomtom dock, as don't really want to have to keep taking my cover of every time I want to use the tomtom.
    thanks
    Mark

    Hi illaass,
I tried the suggestions and they do work for Tom Tom car kit.
I had to close the car kit application and restart it until it showed as docked but then worked fine in navfree.
I also disabled wifi on the iPod touch so that it had to use gps
I have now purchased uk Ireland tomtom application.
The palm Bluetooth GPS does not appear in the devices list still though.
Are there any applications that can be bought to support this as car kit is not any good when on foot?
I do have a USB power pack but that means carrying power pack and car kit with iPod docked in it.

  • IPhone G3 S with built in BlueTooth car Kit problem

    I have an iPhone 3Gs.
When I connect to my car kit (Motorola T605) the kit always falls back into music mode.Tthe phone works in this mode but when I use either the iPod feature or a GPS navigation app I get no sound through the car.
It worked perfectly with my older iPhone with 2.2.1.
Any ideas as to what is wrong or what I can do to rectify the problem ?
Do any of you have car kits that work fully with the iPhone 3G s that you can recommend .. It looks like I might have to change my car kit.
I have updated my 2.2.1 3G phone .... The same problems exist. It seems to be a version 3.0 software issue to me.

    Hi Tim,
I have just spent 2 hours on the phone with Motorola's tech support (They were useless at best !!!). I got nowhere at all. They blame all the problems all on Apple and say their kit is NOT guaranteed to work with all phones with A2DP. I wish they said that in their sales literature and i told them that .. they seemed to be unable to accept the idea that their saying it works in writing is somewhat misleading (Wrong in this case) and perhaps even a breach of sales law.
I then spent over an hour at my local (and very experienced) car audio store. they were more than helpful but they also could not get things working correctly.
I do have a Sony car stereo system and this has a lead for an iPod to play through the stereo system.
I connected my iPhone to this ... it worked .. sort of ! .. I had to play around a bit .. I managed to get Audio to work and my navigation App (Navigon Europe) worked this way also.
The store then played around with a Parrot MKi9100 car kit that they had on a demonstration stand.. This was significantly better and I am having my motorola T605 removed and disposed of in disgust tomorrow and the Parrot installed.
The Parrot will also charge the iPhone via it's cable unlike the Motorola and Sony setup.
I did speak to Parrot themselves and they have said to me that any of their models in the MKi range will be fine with the iPhone with version 3.0 software as they have done software updates .. The updates can be applied by the owners simply and quickly.
Just for information for you and others with similar problems ... We also tried several car stereo systems that say they have bluetooth and iPhone compatibility built in to them .. Alpine in particular ... Not one worked !!!
The Parrot is being fitted as I said earlier tomorrow ... I will make a further report when it's all done to let you know just how good it is and how everything works.
    I hope this helps.

  • Car kit for 6210 Navigator

I've just upgraded from a 6230i, for which I have a Cark126 car kit, to the 6210 Navigator. I can't find anything like my current car kit for the Navigator. I really wanted to just plug the phone into a cradle and have it immediately charge and connect to the car's handsfree.
What do you all think is the best way to go 'hands-free' in the car, with my new phone? My hubby says he's capable of wiring a hands-free kit if it's straightforward but that he's no car or electronics expert!

Both the CK-100 and CK-300 have a charging cable coming from the control unit.
The charging cable plugs into the bottom of the cradle and then every time you put the phone in the cradle, it will be on charge and held legally. The actual connection to the car kit itself is over wireless Bluetooth.
If your car has aux in on the stereo system then the CK-300 is the all singing, all dancing option as you can operate more controls of the phone from the control button of the car kit AND have music from the phone playing through the car stereo PLUS a 3.5mm jack that you can connect an IPod to.
However you do not have aux in, the CK-100 will give a good simple solution and still give you the wireless music option but played directly through the car speakers.

  • Best car kit/FM transmitter out there

I've finally gotten myself a 8GB Ipod nano. I travel in my car a lot and would like to play my music library in the car. What is the best car kit/FM transmitter on the market for a reasonable price??? I've seen some go for over $100, but I don't want to have to pay this much. I would have to go through the lighter as I don't have an aux. plug-in to my stereo. Thanks.

I think you shouldn't buy a Griffin transmitter made especially for iPod. Rather go to your nearest electronic store and buy something that sends music via your headphone plug-in. The price can go under 20 bucks!
There might me some people out there who disagree with me, but this is just my opinion.

  • Nano and car kit

    Hi
I bought a 5th gen nano for my girlfriend for Christmas and I can't get it working with her car kit. My iphone and her old ipod mini work fine on it but when the nano is plugged in it still plays out of the internal speaker. I though maybe there was a new kit or something for the nano but I haven't seen anything about that as well as the nano works in an old iHome that was used for the mini. Any thoughts?

I had a nano plug from my car stereo,,,the 30 pin connector did not work,,,the audio sound store, set me up with an adapter from the aux input that connects to the headphone jack,,and promised me an adapter in the next couple of weeks for the 30 pin...

  • TomTom car kit audio

I currently get very good audio quality from connecting the iPhone directly to a cassette adaptor through the car speakers to play iPod content (2001 BMW M3 Harman Kardon system).
However when I connect the cassette adapter into the line-out of a TOMTOM car kit for music playback (when using sat nav simultaneously), suddenly the audio becomes very distorted, and despite playing around with EQ settings on both the iPod and the car system, cannot manage to obtain decent quality sound.
Unfortunately my car is not modern enough to have a direct audio input, and so the cassette adapter seems the only option for the moment.
Would anyone have any kind suggestions to make it possible to secure good quality sound through the car kit please? Would a better quality cassette adapter help for instance? For what it is worth, I think that the car kit is great for docking, positioning, hands-free calling and enhanced GPS performance - and so it would be a real bonus to secure some quality music playback as well.
Really appreciate your comments, many thanks

    Aaron,
Thanks for your point about volume limits - I raised that with TomTom:
"The level of distortion that I get when playing music through the audio lineout of the car kit is exactly the same as when the volume limit for the iPod is set too high when connecting it directly to the car stereo. This is the reason why you must set a balance of about 70% volume on the iPod and the rest of it set by the car audio volume in order to obtain a clean sound overall.
As soon as you connect the iPod via the car kit lineout, you automatically lose the ability to set volume limits on the iPod, and you can only control the volume using the car system.
There is a volume limit setting on the iPod (through general settings), but this becomes irrelevant as soon as the car kit becomes involved.
Therefore the problem does not lie with the car system or the cassette adapter, it lies with the car kit.
I just wonder why you have to lose the ability to control volume settings on the iPod as soon as you connect to the car kit.
Can you suggest a solution for this?"
    I received the following replies:
"I cannot offer you an immediate suitable solution for this challenge. I have sent your question to our 2nd line technical department.
I hope to have an answer for you as soon as possible, please bear with us while we find a solution for your query."
    And then:
"Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the volume settings once connected to the Car Kit. The only option from that point is on the audio device that the Car Kit connects to."
So it seems there is no solution to our problem - we just have to accept it.
Please let me know if you think of anything else.
    Cheers

  • N73 and voice dialing using Bluetooth car kit

    Hi,
I have a N73 using v3.0638.0.0.01, its a vodafone phone. I have it set up with my CK-7W car kit and it works great except when I want to make a call. If I try and use voice dialling through the car kit it never finds my contact and simply say "no match found". If I put the phone directly in front of me and oice dial using the car kit it works.
Everything worked fine until the firmware was updated and I have restred my contacts from backup. The problem here is not that voice dialling isn't working, per se, but that it wont interact with the car kit since the firmware was updated.
    Any ideas folks.
    Chris

I have an iPhone 3G 16gig. I just bought a Kensington Liquid AUX Bluetooth Car Kit, paired everything up, and tested it out in the garage. The only downside (at that point) was that the included remote only controlled start and stop, not forward and back tracks. Later I tested it on the road and thought my ears were playing tricks on me when I heard the music changing pitch. Once I figured out it wasn't me, I changed tracks and even tried streaming radio and still, pitch up/pitch down, song faster/song slower. I noticed it got markedly worse when I tried to use another program while having the ipod play in the background, which makes me think it is a hardware issue; possibly the processor speed or "RAM" or however iPhones work. I am planning on trying it with my ipod and a bluetooth attachment I have for it to see if the music distorts. If it is the hardware on the phone, looks like apple forgot to mention as a selling point that the faster innards are needed for true A2DP stereo bluetooth! Another part of their brilliant scheme I guess!
