IPod iPad charger

Hello I have an iPod Touch and an iPad and they both have wall chargers however they are mixed up.
I have had no idea which charger belonged to which device for a few months now and it seemed to work fine however I just doscovered the iPad charger is actually more powerful than the iPod one.
I know you can do it with Macs if you have a charger which is too powerful but not with one that is designed for a smaller Mac. Is this the same for the i devices?
My question is is it OK to charge the iPad with the iPod charger and vice versa?
...What about MacBook chargers...? I noticed I can fit the charger from my iPod/iPad to my MacBook charger...what would happen if I was to charge my little iPod with a MacBook Pro charger...?

You can safely use the iPad's charger with iPods and iPhones : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4327 . The iPod's charger is half the power - it will charge the iPad but it will be a lot slower.
The iPad's charger is 10W, which should be written on it somewhere, possibly in very faint grey writing.
I don't know whether it is safe or not, but personally I wouldn't use an iPad/iPod charger with a Mac or vice versa

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

    Hi there Apples or Pears,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the articles below.

  • Is it bad to charge an ipad from an ipod/iphone charger?

I've plugged my ipad into my ipod/iphone charger and it works. But it takes forever for it to charge. I just wonder if it's bad for it to charge from that charger? Am I frying the battery?
    Thanks

    Charging Tips
The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • Is it possible to charge an ipod with the ipad charger

I want to know if it's possible to charge a Ipod shuffle with the 10w  ipad charger?

  • Can an Ipod touch charger be used to charge Ipad 3?

Can anyone tell me if an iPod Touch charger can be used to charge iPad3?  Thank you,

Maybe. If you really, really need to use the iPod (low power) charger, it will be best to turn off the iPad after connecting to the charger. You can check the charging progress after a couple hours to see if the percentage has increased.

  • IPad charger vs iPod

In an effort to reduce baggage weight, I brought my iPad charger on my current trip thinking it would work on my iPad, iPhone and iPod. Well, it works on two out of the three -- iPad and iPhone -- but not on my iPod. Everything I've read indicates it should work to charge my iPod but the iPod simply refuses to recognize that it has been connected to a power source when I plug it in using the iPad charger. What am I missing?

Perform a Reset on the iPod... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • IPad charger used for iPod Touch, now won't charge iPad

Hello everyone! I need help. :( This is what happened. i charged my iPod Touch with the charger that came with my iPad 2 and the iPod charged okay. Now I connected the charger to my iPad and there was no response at all (no charging or not charging sign).
This is the second time this happened. The first time was when my aunt used the iPad charger for her iPhone 4 which charged okay. When I used it for my iPad after, it did not work as in now. What I did the first time was connect the charger's detachable head (see image http://www.thefonestuff.com/product_images/c/441/MB706_AV1__57136_zoom.jpg) to a Macbook charger. The Macbook charged okay and when I reconnected it to my iPad, the iPad began to charge as usual.
I don't understand what happened. Was the charger somewhat "inactivated" in both instances because it was connected to a device that required a different amount of power? Without the Macbook charger, how can I "restore" the charger to its "iPad-optimized" state?
    Thank you for your reply!

Changing the detachable head and changing it back, might wiggle an internal connection that is loose inside either the charger or the head.
It is also possible your charger cable has a bad connection.  Either way, I think you need to contact Apple about it.

  • Why won't the iPod Classic 160GB charge with the iPad charger?

I found out the hard way that the iPad's 10w charger which works on my iPad-1 and on my iPhone 4s and on my iPod Touch *does not* work/provide a charge to my 2nd gen iPod Classic.
I had gone to Europe with a full charge on all of my devices, and on the long flight I used both the iPad and the iPod. Once in Spain, I left the iPod in the hotel safe; the phone and iPad were used throughout my vacation, receiving a charge every day via the 10w charger and European duckhead. The night before I left, I plugged in the iPod, knowing that I would need it for the return flight. Imagine my surprise the next day at the airport when I discovered that the iPod was practically dead. Before boarding, I verified that the charger itself (with the European connector) was still working on both the iPad and iPhone, and it was; but as soon as I connected it to the iPod...nothing.
When I eventually got home to the States, I sat down with both the 10w charger and two or three of the many other USB chargers I have accumulated over the years. With the exception of my ancient firewire connector, every single one will charge every single device-----except for the 10w charging the iPod Classic. The iPad will even get a charge from the non-10w charger; it just takes a very long time to get back to 100%. If I could find my 3rd gen Nano, I would try that, but I'm not sure where it is.
What gives here? Why won't the 10w charger work on the iPod Classic??

I finally got curious enough to get a young person's eyes to read the stuff on the bottom of my iPad Mini charger: 5v 1a which equates to 5W using Ohm's law P=IE (E=IR).
So that beng the max charging rate of a normal USB 2.0 port explains (derived from above posts by Bilbo_cheshire and CMJRoss) why that iPad charger does work when some of the larger iPad chargers do not work with the iPod. The current is limited so it does not cause the iPod to sqeal .

  • IPOD classic won't charge with 10W IPAD charger

I have an IPOD Classic, 120 GB, an IPOD touch and an IPAD.  The 120GB IPOD classic will not charge with the new 10W IPAD charger.  Charges fine with the original IPOD classic charger.  The 10W IPAD charger charges the IPOD touch and IPAD just fine.  Any one have any ideas what might be going on?

It should work.  See here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3044169?start=0&tstart=0

  • There is a problem with the charging cable that wont let my iPad charge. it is probably the little usb thingy. it does charge when it is out of power, but as soon as it turns on it stops charging. anyone got a fix for it? mail me at simenrognli@hotmail.no

My chargers little USB port probably is the fail. it lets my ipad charge only when it is completely out of power, but as soon as it turns on, it stops charging. Any tips on what i can do? The charger is new and has worked until today. i cant bring it to the store because it was bought in my neighbour country Sweden. Thanks in advance.

    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. You can still go if your country has Genius Bars
