IPod minimum volume level is too high

Hey,
The title pretty much says it all. I got a used iPod for Christmas. I'm having 2 problems: the volume range seems to be very limited, and the minimum volume is too high. (Akin to this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111969?start=0&tstart=0
Anyways, I was wondering if the Volume Adjustment feature will lower the volume of the songs on my iPod, or only on the computer.
iTunes 11.0.1
Windows 7
iPod Classic 160 Gb
Thanks!

I read that theser is a volume issue with some players in the FAQ.
I tried following the link for more information, but its broken. What did it say ?

  • [SOLVED] Microphone recording level is too high

    Hi,
since yesterday, I've got an issue with my headset's microphone (it's a QPAD QH-1339). The recording level is WAY too high, at 2 % level it's already starting to clip and I hear noise coming from the motherboard (a Lenovo ThinkPad T540p laptop). First I thought it might be a problem with PulseAudio but after testing with arecord I realized it seems to be ALSA related (same problem there).
Here are my sound related packages:
$ pacman -Ss alsa | grep Installiert
    extra/alsa-lib 1.0.28-1 [Installiert]
    extra/alsa-plugins 1.0.28-2 [Installiert]
    extra/alsa-utils 1.0.28-1 [Installiert]
    extra/pulseaudio-alsa 2-3 [Installiert]
    extra/zita-alsa-pcmi 0.2.0-1 [Installiert]
    multilib/lib32-alsa-lib 1.0.28-1 [Installiert]
$ pacman -Ss pulse | grep Installiert
    extra/libao 1.2.0-1 [Installiert]
    extra/libcanberra-pulse 0.30-4 [Installiert]
    extra/libpulse 5.0-1 [Installiert]
    extra/pavucontrol 2.0-2 [Installiert]
    extra/pulseaudio 5.0-1 [Installiert]
    extra/pulseaudio-alsa 2-3 [Installiert]
    multilib/lib32-libpulse 5.0-1 [Installiert]
    lsusb:
    $ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter
ALSA and PulseAudio config files are stock; I've reinstalled alsa-lib, lib32-alsa-lib, libpulse, pulseaudio and lib32-libpulse already, making no difference. The built-in microphone seems to record just fine (apart from the horriblenot-so-great sound quality). It also seems to work somewhat if I set the recording level in the ALSA mixer to 100 % but Skype of course changes the recording level as it likes. When enabling the monitor (to hear myself) the sound quality from the headset's microphone is just perfect so I'm pretty puzzled what to try next.
If you need more information, let me know. Thanks in advance!

Try to set the capture level lower, you may do it by amixer or alsamixer or your systray applet.
I think your card is non fully set.
    What says
lspci -vnn |grep 'High Definition Audio'
Try to disable pulseaudio and remove the module. See wiki and in particular this section.
I know, their aren't the definitive solution, but we should have to toss a bit of straw from the haystack to find the needle.
Well, I should point out that it's an USB headset with integrated audio controller (was a bit unclear in my first post, sorry). The sound card integrated in the laptop works just fine but the integrated microphone is awful (in a non-ALSA, non-PulseAudio way ) so showing you the output from lspci won't help much I suppose. But at least it has a Mic Boost control.
Maybe it helps if I describe the behavior in the PulseAudio volume control in more detail.
For the integrated sound card, the input level behaves linear (I know it's logarithmic but that's not the point ). At 0 %, it's completely quiet, at 100 %, it's clipping. In between, everything's fine.
For the USB headset, 0 % is completely quiet, 1 % is clipping already, just getting worse until 40 % which is the ALSA base volume. There it's quiet but at least the volume indicator shows something. At 41 %, it's clipping again until 100 % which seems to behave like 40 %.
Now as Skype thinks that 40 % is too quiet it changes the input level (reasonably enough I guess). Too bad that anything BUT 40 % means white noise coming from the microphone...
Disabling PulseAudio is not really an option as Skype doesn't work with anything but PulseAudio. Besides that the problem also occurs with arecord.

  • IPod Touch play count WAY too high

My 16GB 2G iPod Touch has a play count which is far too high. It is like 1500 for songs I have added today. Any way to solve this?
I have tried resetting the play counts, skip counts and restoring my iPod. No luck.

I'm having the same issue. I've got an iPod Touch 1G, fully updated. I'm seeing tracks that I've literally not played in weeks maybe even MONTHS come up with hundreds, and songs i've played maybe once or twice come up with thousands. I reset all the play counts to try again but it didn't make a difference, next thing i knew, a whole load of new tracks were up there in the thousands.
It's REALLY annoying, cause I've got a Most Played smart playlist, which doesn't really work in the first place as it doesn't update itself no matter how many times i plug my iPod into the computer, and even if it DID work, it wouldn't be very accurate, and I'd have a load of Janet Jackson interludes clogging up my most played, which gets annoying after a while, no matter how entertaining they are when they're part of the album!
    What can we do?!

  • Audio level way too high after disc burn

    Hello!
I just burned my first test disc of a project and have come across a strange problem. The audio on all of my tracks has jumped to an extremely high (and unacceptable) level. It is well above the level set in FCP and even what plays when simulating the disc from within DVDSP. The ac3 files out of compressor seem to be fine. In fact, everything seems okay until the actual burn. When playing the disc in DVD Player, it's so loud that in many places there is actual peaking. Is there a setting I'm missing, maybe? I tried searching, but didn't find anything like this.
    Any ideas?

    Hey Drew,
Gotcha, I just realized it must be fixing something with markers. I haven't had a problem with that yet though, fortunately. I've been exporting directly out of FCP using Compressor, so there's no intermediate file. Like I said, the encoded ac3 sounds perfect, so it seems like it's something happening in DVDSP. Do you know of anything in that program that might have caused this? If it makes any difference, I burned the disc by simply hitting the "burn" button rather than building. Could that cause this sort of thing?

  • My microphone levels are too high or too low. I cant get a perfect medium

    I am using:
    Audio Interface: Focusrite itrack solo
Microphone: Blue encore 200 series with phantom power
Computer: iMac O SX lion 10.7.5
This computer was bought from someone from Amazon.com. Everything seemed to be alright with the computer almost brand new no problems.
It didn't have garageband on it when I recieved it so I bought the garageband app from the app store for $14.99.
I am also currently running the updated software for garageband.
I am a singer and songwriter and I have worked with pro tools in the past but I just cannot seem to be able to level out my vocals when I record.
I can sing soft if I need to and it sounds okay I think but when I actually start to sing louder and step away from the mic a bit because I am a loud
singer. My levels still hit red when I sing louder (normal)
I would also like to add that I have adjusted the gain 01 on the focusrite to almost every position and still hit red everytime I sing like the chorus or a part that has a louder tone to it.
My first question would be why am I still hitting red when I sing loud?
Also, I noticed when I went to the compressor on the track itself i can turn that volume up or down. Is that normal to have to turn the compressor volume up or down to level out the track?
I'm not even sure what the compressor does exactly but all I know is when I plug my mic in turn everything on and try and set my level on the focusrite, without turning the compressor on, I have to turn the gain almost completely up to hear myself through my headphones. (Which couldnt be good) and I am using turtlebeach psx headphones for gaming but they still have a very decent sound coming through them and they are also recognized by garageband and my computer so I was thinking maybe that had no problem to it. Is there a correct way to level out my vocals?
    And one more question.
I have noticed when I am recording either guitar or vocals garageband will all of the sudden (out of nowhere) pick up this horrible delay which is about a second long delay and is very annoying. Is there something I could do to prevent that bad delay?
    Thank you a bunch

  • Ipod Nano Volume level

Hi, I have got an Ipod Nano 2nd Generation and use earphone that sit on your ears not in ears as I find them uncomfortable. The only problem with this is that I find that the volume is not very loud, I have it on the maximum, I know there is a volume limit set on all mp3 players but does anyone know if there is any way of making it louder?

At this point, the software people with iPods purchased in EU countries were using to remove the cap do not work on the 2nd gen nano. No word on when it will. So other than maxing your volume limiter and trying more expensive earphones there really isn't anything you can do right now.

  • Ipod touch play counts way too high

Yep, another one. Apple going to do anything about it yet? Had my Ipod Touch 64gb for a week, there's no way I listened to Happy Birthday by the Birthday Massacre 64 times. haven't tried to make a smart playlist yet, but from what I gathered, they haven't made that easy or possible either.
Not asking how to fix it because I don't think anyone really knows, but a simple requisition to apple to FIX IT.

    agreed!

  • Video levels slightly too high on Export

    Hi everyone,
i had this issue on earlier versions of Premiere Pro when exporting .mov files with the DNxHD codec from Avid’s Codecs LE package, starting from Premiere CC this now occurs in several other export formats like .mxf with DNxHD or XDCAM HD.
To demonstrate the problem I simply used a HD Sequence with HD Colorbars.
Attached is a screenshot of the original waveform (nicely between 0.3V and 1.0V + super black) and a screenshot of the exported video.
Perhaps this is a RGB <>YUV issue?
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Original
    Wrong Export

I tested a couple of other codec’s by now and it seams to be related to most if not all codec’s that focus on delivery of broadcast material.
I find this very concerning because although the shift is minimal and not visible in the final image it is this little that get your files rejected by TV-Stations...

  • Increasing volume levels from Ipod

I have loads of AAC & MP3 files loaded on my Ipod but the volume levels are too low when played through the car AUX is there a way to increase the volumes before or after they download to the Ipod.

If you boost the volume of the songs in iTunes, you must then sync the iPod to iTunes once again in order to reflect the changes. If you have done this and still cannot hear a difference, then there is something amiss.
Same with iPod Volume Boost. It matters not that the iPod was manufactured for the European market, it should works with all iPods.
It work with two iPods in our family that were purchased in the USA.

  • AppleTV distorts sound, output level too high

    Hi
I have a problem and have already tried a number of solutions.
My AppleTV sound is distorted, due to the output level being too high. Initially I used the TVs headset jack-connector for connecting to my amp, and lowering the output level from the TV didn't work. It is distorted from the source (AppleTV)
Now I have bought a seperate D/A converter for connecting the AppleTVs optical output directly to my analog amplifier. Still doesn't work. Sound still distorted.
When playing music through AppleTV, I have the ability to adjust the volume level on the source device. And then everything is OK.
But airplaying video/youtube from my ipad (I do that a lot - playing kiddie-flics for my toddler) there is no option to reduce the sound level.
Effectively most content airplayed will be distorted - and I am sick of it. I have a high-end amp and speakers. I do not expect audiophile quality from the AppleTV. Still I didn't expect defective/destroyed sound... And no, the AMP isn't the issue, as this has been replaced as well, due to an upgrade. Same issue on both AMPs.
Any good suggestions? Or should I simply accept that the design criterias for the AppleTV doesn't involve a reasonable audio quality? Or is my particular product defective?
    Thanks,
    Claus

If the audio is clipped there's not much you can do other than re-record. But there is this: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/RX/

  • Why is the volume level different from song to song in iTunes & on iPod?

When I play back songs in iTunes and most of all on my iPod the volume level is different depending what songs I am listing to. The biggest problem is with the songs that I get from my CD’s because the volume is very low. Why does this happen and can I fix it? Thanks, Robert

iTunes uses a feature called "SoundCheck" to attempt to equalize playback volume. There are actually 3 Sound Checks: 1 is for iTunes playback (set in Preferences), 1 is for iTunes burning (set on the Burn Disc dialog), and 1 is for iPod playback (in iPod Settings).
Make sure they are all enabled.
They are far from perfect, but they should help.

  • Audio level too high

I created a slideshow with music behind it in iPhoto. It plays fine althought the audio level is noticably higher than another project I made with a different song. I added both projects to an iDVD project so I can burn 1 disc with both slideshows. They both preview fine in iDVD. Now after I burnt the dvd the audio tracks are distorted when I play them on my home DVD player. It seems the audio level is too high. Is anyone able to tell me how I can adjust my background music level? Thanks for the help.
    d

Thanks for the reply John. I thought I saw a setting to change levels somewhere but I think that was when I was importing a movie from my camcorder. I will try to edit the levels as you suggested later today and report back.
Incidentally, the audio is not distorted when I play the dvd from my computer. I am also going to see if I can get some other players to try it on.

  • Ms word95 to pdf - "security level too high"?

I'm a brand new user of Acrobat 9.0 (on XP system) - all kinds of problems (including major file crash and loss during 9.0  installation - more on that later). for now, I need to get started immediately on converting some MS Word doc files to pdfs - What I get from 9.0 is the message that "The Security Level is Too High".   If it's referring to the MS word docs, they are unprotected (I've checked and tried several - Word shows they are not protected, and as far as I know, never have been).  They were originally created on a mac with macWord - but were not protected and converted to windows with MacDrive7.  They show in MS Word in good condition and unprotected.  What do I need to do to get them into acrobat and into pdf format? I've also check the knowledge base here and elswhere without any clues except one chap who seemed to be having similar problems (along with serious crashes) using 8.1. Other than that, I'm mistified.
I've also tried using the context menu 'covert to pdf' method and also creating a new pdf (blank) and inserting them.  In both cases the security message aborted the process.  Need to do this right away. I'm not technically skilled, so if someone can give me some clear instructions I'd be grateful.  - red

Thank you all for responding so quickly. First, I'll mention the serious message and a warning. DO NOT INSTALL ACROBAT 9.0 IN AN ENVIRONMENT WITH WORD 7.0 (or any old(er) MS Word version before 2k).  The consequences are ghastly, including the deletion of half or more of your program files (including your email clients, av software and other primary programs), the corruption of your browser, registry (including restore points) and other not so nice events - worse than most bad viruses.  That's a problem Adobe and I will probably be taking a look at next week. Mean time, they indicate that they are going to add the matter to their KB and elswhere so that users have a heads-up on the issue.
As for the conversion problem from Word 7.0 .doc to .pdf - Bill, you just about nailed it. It was, indeed, a problem that could be circumvented by going to the printer dialog and setting the printer to  'Adobe pdf file' (something a novice wouldn't think of, nor line tech-support for that matter.).  As far as Word/pdf 'printer' is concerned you're just printing the file. However, as I understand things, that's how Adobe attaches the Word documents - It does it through the printer interface. Once that setting is changed to 'Adobe pdf printer' the file is simply picked from the print queue (or before) and loaded into A9. Save it from A9, and the job is done.  So, Bill, If Adobe hadn't found the answer, I do believe you would have been telling me exactly how to do it after a few more posts. The credit, though, goes to Neo Johnson, tech-support supervisor in New Delhi.  The last two days (almost 9 hours of phone time) were spent with various tech-support agents at Adobe; but,  he was the one who finely thought about the interaction between A9 and Word and figured it out.
Ok -that's the brief.  The rest is a little history/background for whomever is interested (skip, otherwise - not important).  The problem begins with failure to install - first, setup can't find the msi file - it was there, and I browsed it, so that was solved. Then 'invalid licensing - process stopped' messages appear. That was a little tougher and http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405970.html  and some other articles had me doing repair, reinstall, and other complex (for me) procedures. One of the problems was that flexnet had failed to install, which was a stumper for me (I couldn't find it to download separately - barely knew what it was/did - and finally understood that Adobe was supposed to install it. After that,  I did several uninstalls, to no effect. Finally I did a few moderate and then deep uninstalls (with Revo) and several reinstalls. Things got progressively worse.  On one reboot, my desktop came up and all the program icons were broken links.  I examined targets and such and then went to my 'program files' directory. To my horror, nearly all my primary program (including thunderbird email client, AVG etc.)  files had disappeared. The folders were simply empty.  Firefox still loaded, but the tabs were non functional.  Several checks and some light disc analysis indicated the files vanished. No trace. However, my document folders and data were intact (also backed-up). I went to restore and found that all the old restore points (including the one's Revo sets before uninstalling) were gone.  If it had been a virus, it couldn't have done a better job at making a mess of things.  At that point, I knew the registry had been toasted and I was facing a complete OS reinstall.  Instead, I opted for reinstalling some of the critical programs (and because the document files appeared to be intact).  After the first few - thunderbird, firefox etc.  - I was relieve to find that they were picking up on the old settings and restoring themselves to their previous states. I still have a number of these to do - and a few must be re-configured. But that's going ok.
Then the saga of Adobe, several phone calls; several times the phone connection was cut off and I had to call again and start over from the beginning with a new person. The matter always had to be esculated to the next tier - more time, more cues, no solutions.  They went over the firefox settings, the adobe settings. They were puzzled about the broken links.  Attempts to open doc files (after a fresh install of winword) were resulting in 'invalid win32 application'. All kinds of problems made progress difficult.  We cleared up the 'invalid....' messages by reparing the file associations (in XP folder options) and then opening the docs in Word and resaving them as something else.  It was a labor.  Finally, there was simply no answer except, like the post here, Word 7 is simply too old and uses different scripting. The only solution was to either buy (ugh, ouch!) Word 2007 (and hope that it would load them and save them in A9 useable form) or, try installing Word2k (which I have) and processing them through that; and, then using Acrobat 8.x to load those and save the pdfs for A9 to use.  However, when Adobe said they could not provide me with a free (even trial) version of 8.x to do the job - licensing problems etc. -- It seemed like a really ugly solution.  Finally, I'm begging Adobe to give me a free copy of 8.x and in steps Neo.  He can't provide the free copy, but he asks a few questions himself.  We go to Adobe and reset some of the security settings (something other agents didn't know or think of). No dice - still can't load the docs.  But then he says, Open up Word. Ok.  load the file and then hit 'print' - ok, the print dialog comes up. 'Now,' he says, 'open the properties and see what printers are listed.'  Ok I do that, and I'll be... 'Adobe pdf printer' is among them.  "Just what I thought," he said, Adobe was hooking up with word, but didn't have its printer to attach." So we set 'Adobe pdf' as the printer and lo and behold, the docs loaded into Adobe as pdfs.  End of that story. (so bill, you had it too - wish you had answered the phone in the first place!)
Clean up.  So, there's a few simple solutions, I think (though i'm no techie and you folks will certainly have better ideas). First, I don't buy the story that early versions of Word are either 1) unsupported by MS or, 2) nobody uses them, as valid reasons why not to fix the problem of the "unloadable" docs.  I figure there are at least a couple of aproaches and easy patches that will correct the matter. One is from the Word  side - to is to set the current printer setting to use 'Adobe printer', get the file and then reset the printer back to what it was - default.   The other is to patch A9 to detect legacy source applications and bypass things that would normally make the file unloadable, unless, of course, they were actually protected or, read only files. In that case, Adobe could simply inform the user to 'unprotect' them, the same as it now does with its   'Security Setting too High' message for later versions.  I'm sure there are even better ways. But, that would fix things as far as file loading and conversion.
As to the installation and crash problems - those need to be addressed. Even if its only a few dozen people that might have the same problem, it needs 1) to be given as a noticable warning and keyword in Adobe documents (which now simply indicate that it can process .doc files);  2) it needs to be examined to  insure systems that have Word 7.x or older can install without problem, and certainly without harming their system.  Adobe has a good reputation and does a good job. That's worth protecting with all customers, even if Marketing can't quite see why and the bean counters can't find much profit in the task.  It's what I expect from professionals and to do less certainly subtracts from Adobe's standing. That should be worth a great deal, I would imagine.
Anyway, thanks folks - got to get some sleept, and then get those pdfs done and sent to people who are waiting for them. - best to you all, red.

  • White Levels Too High?

    Hey Everyone:
I am sort of new here, but I have a question. I run a television station and through our broadcast equipment I receive static on some videos I produce that play on a Public Access Channel. In speaking with the cable company we experience problems with they told me that our video levels are too high. The levels are causing static reception on the audio of our video broadcast. It appears that the yellows and whites are causing the most problems. In Final Cut Pro 4.5, I having been playing with the 3-way color corrector and it seems to have calmed down a bit, but I want to eliminate it completely. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to solve this problem with out sacrificing a lot of the video's quality. I shoot with a Canon GL2 and the video quality is superb. Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Chris Steuber

    Welcome to the forum Christopher,
I'm not an engineer and don't know proper terminology (though I'm quickly learning , but others on this forum may be able to provide better insight...mine may be a bit vague...
Continue to use CC3way, as it gives you the best control over your image levels.
Are you using a Waveform/Vectorscope, either inside FCP or externally. You should use these tools for proper setting of levels. (preferably externally)
Are you using the FCP 'Range Check' function? This will at least signal you that there are luminance or chrominance hot spots.
Ken Stone has some great info about using CC3way.
One additional thing to consider is the hardware that is in play regarding the distribution of your signal.
I've worked with our local Government Access and Public Access channels (on Adelphia Cable locally) and some of these issues had to be addressed at the head end and some at our end of the signal flow chain...depending on which channel...and we occasionally had to push the Cable ops to tweak their settings, or we had to tweak our hardware at times as well.
In addition to 'hot' video, you should be aware of 'crushed' black levels. As I understand it, digital is not nearly as forgiving as analog when dealing with A/V signals.
Bottom line is, it's your responsibility to make sure your product conforms to 'broadcast standards'.

  • Volume level on my Ipod Nano

I bought two iPods nano for my daugthers, after load both iPods the volume level is not the same in both, is there a setting to be modified in order to get the same level of volume in the second one?

Go to Settings>Volume Limit and make sure the triangle is in the same place for both (the end if no limit is set). If it's the same, make sure that you use identical settings and audio conditions when comparing the two, and then try with a different set of headphones. If there's still a difference, then the one with the low volume might need to be sent back to Apple
