Ipod Nano Restored, iTunes says its in recovery mode

I have an ipod nano, and at first it wasn't recognized by itunes and found posts that addressed this issue. Problem was solved...
Until I plugged the ipod back in itunes then gave a message saying "the ipod is in recovery please restore befor eyou can use with iTunes". The problem is is I have the most up to date software on my ipod and have restored it, but iTunes says it is still in recovery mode.
Could someone please shed some light on this? It's possible someone else had this problem as well..
Thanks in advance

Fair enough. I'm new to the Discussion place so
thanks for the tip. Do you think iPod Rip would be
able to get music from a crashed iPod?
Depends on how crashed "crashed" is. Will it still turn on/boot up to the menu? Does Windows recognize it as a drive when you connect it?
The application is fairly small, so it shouldn't take too long to download/install it and give it a shot. I've had some problems with iPodRip and QuickTime on some computers, and rather than spend time messing with it, I tried iPodUtil instead which seemed to work. The only thing with iPodUtil is that if you use the free trial version, every so often you'll see a popup that prompts you to pay for the registration, which is recommended, especially if the software works for you. You just have to acknowledge the message (every time it appears) and it continues importing your content.

hi, i had to restore my ipod 5G and it says its in recovery mode and its saying ipod software downloading but when its done it says it timed out i tried like 5 times what should i do

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

I have an IPhone 4 which I just updated with the latest software, which put in it in Recovery Mode. It has the picture of the plug with ITunes, I downloaded it now its saying its in Recovery Mode, how do I save all of my previous data without Restoring?
I updated the phone before backing it up on iTunes, now the update wanted me to connect the phone with iTunes and it says the phones in recovery mode and it must be restored before its used with iTunes. I go to click restore and it says it will reset it to factory default and I'll lose all my current data. I have all my sons pictures and videos along with this notes. I can't lose all of this data! Please help!

You have to restore the iPod, no ifs, ands, or buts...
After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod....

  • HT4623 i cannot restore my phone it says its in recovery mode

i cant restore my phone due to it telling me its in recovery mode y isnt it doing the thing

What iPhone do you have? And what version of iTunes do you have? Either on a Mac go to the iTunes menu and "About" or Windows go to Help then About. You'll need to have the latest version which is 11.0.1.

  • When i connect to itunes its saying its in recovery mode on my nano. how do i get it out of recovery mode so i can download music

when i connect my nano to itunes it says i am in recovery mode. it told me to restore so i did and it still is in recovery mode and i lost everything on my ipod. what do i do to get it out of recovery mode?

Reset, can sometimes exit Recovery Mode if nothing is wrong with your iPhone. If there is problem only exit is to connect to iTunes and click the Update or Restore button that iTunes offers you.

  • Has any one figured out how to fix an issue I'm having. My iPhone 5 randomly shuts off by itself. Then it won't turn on when i try to hook it up to iTunes it says its in recovery mode. so then i hit restore and its been stuck on waiting for iPhone.

This happened after I did a software update on my phone about a month and a half ago. My phone will randomly shut off by itself and wont come back on. I had spoke with an apple repair person over the phone who told me to hold in the home button and then plug it into my computer. When the iphone said that there was an error and gave him a code he suggested that I send it in. So I did and about a week and a half later I get it back and its on. Yet the problem still occurs. It shut off twice in the same day and for several hours would not come on. When it did I called apple again and they ran a diagnostic on my phone and said it was a software issue. So then why was it not fixed? They told me they could not duplicate the problem. And now it happens about once or twice a week now. And its happening right now. I have it plugged into my computer and the apple logo with a bar below it has been on for about 20 min now. And itunes is still saying "waiting for iphone."

    Hello Elliiee,
The steps detailed below can help stabilize your iPhone.
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • Am trying to sync my new 3gs to itunes.Says "iphone in recovery mode.Must restore the iphone before it can be used with itunes" Am worried bout doing this as phone came with a note saying " Do NOT restore or update software on itunes when asked otherwise

Am trying to sync my 3gs to itunes, keeps coming up with a notice saying! iphone in recovery mode. Must restore the iphone before it can be used with itunes.
Am really worried about doing this as the phone came with a note enclosed saying "Do NOT restore or update iphone software on itunes when asked to otherwise unlock will be lost"
Is it safe for me to restore or will it block my phone?
    Can anybody help me please?

Sounds like you purchased a phone that was hacked to run on a network other than the one it was originally locked to.
Where, exactly did you get this phone?  If it's already in a state where it says it must be restored, you don't have a choice. If the phone was hacked, it will be re-locked to the network it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can legitimately authorize unlocking the phone.

  • I just backed up my phone in iTunes and then did a restore and at the end of the restore I got a popup that said an unknown error has occurred and now my phone is dead. Shows a pic of USB with arrow to iTunes... iTunes says phone in recovery mode

    HELP!!!

    Try DFU mode:
Plug your device into your computer.
    Turn off the device.
Hold the Power button for 3 seconds
Hold the Home button without releasing the Power button for 10 seconds
Release the Power Button but keep holding the Home button
Keep holding the Home button until you are alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode
NOTE: Make sure the device screen is blank and no logos are present

  • ITunes says iphone in recovery mode after iOS upgrade

Hi everyone - my iPhone 4 is reported as being in recovery mode by iTunes (it has the latest iOs installed)  iT says phone needs to be restored via iOs reinstall but after this happens it still states phone in recovery mode?  Any help or ideas much appreciated.  Thanks M

You probably will have to restore.  Have you made a backup of your iPhone recently?

  • Dropped iPhone has black screen which iTunes says is in recovery mode

The screen looks okay apart from...next to the ear piece hole you can just see a small white chip beneath the screen (The screen itself is not chipped) The phone appears to be off and wont turn on, or maybe it's on but is not lit up so I cant see anything??? I've tried holding the home and power buttons together and several other tips on here with no luck. I have connected the white cable to the computer, held in the home button for at least 10 seconds, and then connected the cable to the phone. It opened iTunes and I restored the phone (I assume to factory settings) The screen is still black and now it's telling me "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes" I've tried restoring it a couple more times but it just comes back with the same message and the screen is still black. If anyone has got any ideas I would appreciate it before I go to Apple.

In what way is it "not letting you?"

  • Tried to download ios 7. Connected to i-tunes and wants to restore my phone - says its in recovery mode. No other options available. Goes near to success then always get error code 29. Have tried to re-set my security software etc.

My iPhone is now dead. Downloaded ios 7 by wifi on the phone. It then asked me to connect to i-tunes. I-tunes says the phone must be restored. Goes a long way down the restore and then get error code 29. I have tried turning off security software and firewalls as suggested by the Apple site but no difference. Can anyone help?

Spent hours trying everything suggested and finally this morning hit on a solution. iTunes must be run as an administrator. Even though you are logged into your PC as an administrator, using the iTunes shortcut does not make you an administrator in iTunes. I found this out by using the diagnostics in iTunes and reading through the results report.
I am using Windows 7, so I clicked the start button and right clicked on iTunes and selected "Run as an adimistrator". The first restore attempt got the 4013 error. I then did the DFU thing, hold power and home buttons for 10 seconds, release power and continue holding home for 10 more seconds.
iTunes gave me the restore message and I clicked it. I clicked the restore iPhone button and it started. The drivers loaded a couple of times. I got the apple logo with the progress bar and this time instead of disappearing, it started to fill in.
End result, a successful restore to factory settings and a happy 14 year old.
    Hope this helps others.

  • Ipod works but itunes says its corrupted...

the ipod won't mount on the desktop either...anyone recommend software that will maybe get it to mount so i can at least pull off the music? or software that will repair it without erasing all the music first?

Have you tried putting it into disk mode (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651) and then see if it can be seen in Finder or iTunes.
