IPod over heating for no apparent reason?

I've had a 4G 20GB iPod for about three months, it was bought used but since then it has been running absolutely fine with no real problems aside from I think one reset after it seemingly hung.
The other day however, it wasn't connected to my iBook and it wasn't even turned on but I took it out of my bag and it was red hot to the touch. I went to turn it on and I got the sad iPod face (eek!)not to mention some rather painful clunking and whining sounds coming from inside.
Well, setting it into diskmode and restoring it seemed to work but I'm still a bit worried about what could have caused the overheating and subsequent problems to begin with and I'm hoping that it's nothing extremely serious.
Any ideas?

Actually I did run a disk utility this morning. Unfortunately now I get a little error message saying that the 'disk you have inserted cannot be initialised' whenever I plug it in now.
I get that sinking feeling that maybe my iPod is died a rather painful death I did wonder if it were a HD problem BUT mother, wonderful person that she is has this morning proposed going halves on an iPod video. I think this should be a lesson to me not to buy an iPod second hand again unless it's from someone I know.
Thnk you for all your help though people who answered and offered your thoughts

  • My iPod nano (g6) for no apparent reason, randomly lowers volume to zero.

I'm on the treadmill listening to tunes and suddenly the volume lowers.  I can push the + button and volume will come back up, but in 5 seconds you can watch it start to lower again.  It lowers to off.

What happens if you try listening to music with another headset?  This issue often arises when you are using the remote and mic headset and it comes into contact with moisture. If that the case, you'll likely need to have the headset replaced.
Maybe a hard reset of the nano to see if that helps. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume down buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  After that a restore if necessary.
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Otherwise, if the problem still continues after using a different set of headphones, moisture could have seeped into the Nano as well, meaning you'll need to actually have the iPod serviced/replaced instead

  • Web Gallery keeps updating for no apparent reason

Hi. I have a couple of pictures in the film strip, and moved to the Web module. LR 2.4 for Windows keeps updating the web gallery over and over again, for no apparent reason. It shows "Update Web Gallery" on the progress bar at the top, completes the task, and after a couple of seconds does it again, and again... . Any idea what could be triggering this unwanted behavior, and how to avoid it?
    Thanks.

You don't state which type of gallery (i.e. HTML or Flash) that you're using. I've only seen it happen with Flash and only when I've switched back and forth between modules. Others have reported seeing it whilst staying in the Web module. For this latter group the usual fix is to delete the preferences file.
More details of where to find the preferences file can be found at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0

  • Desktop appearance problem:  For no apparent reason my Mac running OSX 10.4.11 imposed a mesh-like pattern over the folders on my desktop and also across the top of the screen and down the right-hand side where I have the dock.  How do I remove it?

For no apparent reason my Mac (2 GHz PowerPC G5) running 10.4.11 has put a mesh-like pattern over the folders on my desktop and also a band of the same pattern across the top of the screen and down the right-hand side over the dock.  (See screen grabs below.)
It doesn't affect any operations but makes folder names and drop-down menus difficult to read through the pattern.
I'm not aware of changing any settings so suspect I must have clicked on something without noticing.  How do I get rid of the overlaid pattern, please?

I'm in the middle of working. I've been on the phone with the geek squad and they are not helpful at all.  Has this ever happened to anyone?
Any idea why and how I can make it stop. It's so annoying and driving me crazy. Please advise it's beyond annoying.  Thanks!

I think this has been brought up here a couple of times and IIRC always had sth. to do with a graphic tablet. Do you have one? And of course the usual stuff: system version, Illustrator version etc.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Songs re-downloaded on iPod for no apparent reason when updating

I have a 30gb iPod Photo with the latest firmware and iTunes version. The problem is that whenever I plug in my iPod to update it, many songs that were already on my iPod are re-downloaded to my iPod for no apparent reason, thus lengthening the time it takes my iPod to update by quite a bit (sometimes it's a couple hundred songs that update). Why are these songs being re-downloaded to my iPod when I already had them on there? How can I keep this from happening? Thanks.

    Hi Jensen Gelfond,
If you change your iPod settings in iTunes to 'manualy manage songs' it will stop the auto update re-updating your songs.

  • HT1351 I have ipod touch 64GB. It worked fine for a few months but now for no apparent reason it has stopped syncing my playlists. Operating sysytem on my ipod is iOS 7.1.2. My itunes is 11.3.1.2.

    Please help.

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • Ipod freezing and restoring for no apparent reason

sometimes my ipod just stops what music it's playing and for no apparent reason ,goes back to the homescreen. when i update the ipod, all the play counts from before the "crash" (not really a crash, but that's the term i'll use) are wiped clean, as if i never played them. What's going on?

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Stoe and sign out and then sign back in
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Reset networks settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
Could just be an Apple problem. So far I have seen another post today with same problem.

  • TS1424 has anyone experienced their payment method on iTunes Store being declined for no apparent reason?

For no apparent reason I got a response back from the iTunes Store saying " this card can not be used for the iTunes Store"
I have been using the same card for over a year no problem. Checked with my back looks good on their end.
Has anyone ran into this before?

Thanks for the the information Tyler. I'm still in awe, I heard that if an LCD is over heating or the phone is over heating, there would be a warning message telling me that the device is over heating, not sure how true is this?
Nah I never dropped it yet, its too fresh and precious to me but the funny thing is no matter what care I took since the three weeks that I've had it, it still developed this problem.

  • HT1937 I have an imac and an iPad. emails are synched but suddenly, last night, the calendar on my imac was erased for no apparent reason but it is still on my iPad. what has happened and can how do I resynch calendars?

I have an imac and ipad. Last night the calendar was erased for no apparent reason. It remains on my ipad. what happened and how can I get the calendar dates back on my imac?

    Hello Chisels,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you want to get content from your iPad to you iMac, there are a few things to try.
First check to the iPad to see if it is syncing with iCloud. To do this, go to Calendar app and click the Calendars button in the upper left hand corner. If it says iCloud, then all you need is to enable iCloud on your iMac if you are running 10.7 Lion or later. That preferences is System Preferences > iCloud, if you are
If on the iPad it says “On my iPad”, the following steps will guide you to get it back your iMac.
First, in iTunes, go to the preferences by clicking in the drop down menu iTunes  > Preferences… Go to the device tab and make sure to check the box that says Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from Syncing automatically.
Then follow the steps in the following articles to make a backup and the sync the data.

  • Backing Files Stop Working For No Apparent Reason.  Help?

I have a portal application accessing a remote WSRP PageFlow portlet. The remote portlet populates a backing file and the producer application reads the data. It was working fine and then it stopped working for no apparent reason. The data was simply null, no errors or warnings. I put traces in the backing file and verified that the life-cycle methods were indeed being called and that data was there, and yes, both were indeed the case. Data is being set on the SimpleStateHolder and it's just not transferring over to the producer side.
In order to rule out environmental issues, I've done this on multiple machines. Also, I started a whole new project, got backing file setup, verified that it worked, started developing with it and one time I deployed and it was broken again. I rolled out the changes I had just made but it didn't matter. The earlier code still failed to work although it had been working moments earlier.
So, any ideas? Has anybody else encountered backing file issues like this and if so do you have any suggestions on debugging or fixing them?

  • My nano's keep dyinig for no apparent reason.

This is the third Nano that has just stopped working for no apparent reason in the last 6 months. I'll plug it in to charge/sync and when I unplug and go to play it never turns back on. I also get a message that the USB port is no longer recognized by my computer. I've tried other computers and get the same message. I can see perhaps one ipod being currupt but all 3?

Could be a hardware or battery issue. Make an appointment with Apple Genius Bar and see what they can do.
