IPod Sound Problems - Through Universal Dock

When my iPod is docked to my PC for charging it generates bleeping noises which mess up the sound of any playback.
Examples below are recorded from the Line Out of the iPod dock (which is usually connected to the aux in on my speakers) , The dock is connected to the PC by USB (The problem is exactly the same with firewire).
Noise audible whilst charging http://www.chrismb.plus.com/Ed/charging.wav
Noise audible during playback - http://www.chrismb.plus.com/Ed/playing_connected.wav
Noise audible during playback - Firewire/USB cable is disconnected about 21secs in - http://www.chrismb.plus.com/Ed/playingconnecteddisconnected.wav
I don't have a clue why it does this - but it means that to listen through the dock I have to stop it from charging.
Any Ideas?
A64 4000+, BFG 7800GTX, 2GB Ram, WD Raptor 74gb, Maxtor 300gb 16mb cache     iPod Video 60gb Black

It only makes these noises when charging from USB / Firewire - the problem does not occur when using my Logic 3 AC adapter.
How Odd.

  • No sound or video through universal dock

My IPod Touch 4th Gen will not work in the Universal Dock.  I have purchased Apple cables.  No sound or video through my tv.  Can anyone please tell me how to fix?

I was using just a standard A/V component cable alone with my classic ipod and it worked fine, but since i have purchased the new Ipod touch I was only able to get sound through to the tv with the addition of a dock and standard AV component cable.  Purchased an apple component AV cable hoping this would fix problem and hooked it up to my ipod touch and dont get any audio or video now.  I am trying to play movies that i have downloaded onto my ipod touch.

  • Problem with Universal Dock

    Hi everyone!
I was wondering if any of you guys have had problems with volume adjustment with video iPod when attached to the new dock and stereo. In most cases I have to crank the volume almost to end, but not the all way, because then the sound only comes out of the headphones. As I said, this happens in almost every song. On other the songs - I've found only few - I can't adjust the volume, which I find more pleasing. So I would like to know, is there any way to change those preferences on the iPod, or with some other method?
In case its needed, my iPods firmware is 1.0, which I wouldn't like uprage because of the backlight timer.
    Thanks in advance!

Also have this very frustrating problem. Completely fine playing audio out through iPod touch 2nd Gen with 4.0 update connected to universal dock. Now after the iOS 4.0.2 update, no audio from speakers when I connect to universal dock (headphones and internal speaker work fine), the volume slider disappears when I connect the iPod to the dock and the TuneIn Radio app says "No Volume Available". Hardware volume buttons and apple remote have no effect.
Resetted settings, downgraded back to iOS 4.0.1, restored to factory nothing seems to work. Strangely enough, tried connecting a friend's 2nd Gen ipod touch which hasn't been updated to ios 4.0 (it has 3.1.3) and the same thing: volume slide goes away when connected to dock, and no audio out from speakers. Speakers are good, tested them separately.
Could it be that the ios 4.0.2 update screwed up the universal dock firmware?

  • Problem with Universal Dock after iOS 4.0.2 installation

My universal dock is only two weeks old..It worked fine with iOS 4.0.1.
Today everything was also ok but after I upgraded to 4.0.2 while the phone was sitting on the dock and now I get the error message:
"this accessory is not optimized for this iphone"
Tried to reset settings and clean connectors, but no results.
    Did you experience the same?

  • IPod touch 1g and universal dock: on remote the volume up sets volume down

I have a iPod touch first generation. Today I bought the Apple universal dock which includes a aluminum remote.
The problem is that when I press 'volume up' on the remote, the volume on the iPod goes down. When I press 'volume down' on the remote, the volume on the iPod goes down as expected.
The other controls on the remote are working (prev, next, play/pause). Only the volume control is not working properly.
    What I already tried:
Unpairing and pairing the remote with the universal dock.
    Reboot the iPod
    Reset the iPod
Setup the iPod as a 'new' iPod with iTunes. Sync only the music, no apps.

    Hi,
I bought one dock from apple site some days ago and I think was the dock that had a problem, replaced with another universal dock but the problem persists.
Do you think that two of two dock could be damaged?
    thank you

  • Video Output on iPod Classic using Apple Universal Dock and Camcorder Cable

So, after a little experimentation and research, I've found a way to use Apple's Universal iPod Dock (Apple®-iPod™ Universal Dock-MA045G/A) and my camcorder's AV cable. That's right, no need to purchase Apple's expensive and proprietary AV cables. Of course, if resolution is a concern for you, this post is not for you. Note: if you don't already have a camcorder AV cable, they can be had cheaply online or in retail stores.
Here's what my output is like:
    Composite Video
    Analog Audio
    Here's how to do it:
    Step 1:
Get an Apple Universal iPod dock (if you are fortunate enough to already own one, your cost investment is $0). If not, you can order them online, just do a google search for the model # above.
    Step 2:
Go here (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/mac/2005/11/18/video-ipod.html) and follow the details of the article precisely to allow you to output video and audio. Yes, I know it's an old article for the 5G video iPod, but it still applies if you are using the Universal iPod dock.
I just tested this all, so I know it works beautifully!
    Best of luck to all!
    David

For anyone else with similar issues - Apple removed that functionality in the iPod classic and you can simply buy Apple's cables to make it work.
Sadly, I cannot use it at my gym anymore, but at least there is a solution for the rest of you!
Here is the necessary cable in the Apple store:

  • Why no iPod w/Video 60GB Universal Dock Adapter for UK?

I've got a 60GB iPod with Video, which I use in two locations (home & work). As such, I have two universal docks.
While the 60GB iPod with Video came with a single universal dock adapter, I need another adapter for my other universal dock. Unfortunately, only the 30GB adapter is available for purchase on the Apple Store (UK version).
Anyone know why the 60GB adapter has slipped off the map in the UK? It's listed in the US store.
Alternatively, can anyone suggest a place that might sell them?
    Dean

[I hate to do this.. but.. 'Bump..!']
So, has nobody else in the UK needed to buy a 60GB iPod w/Video Universal Dock Adapter?

Should i take to Ipod's specialist ? or a Hammer will do the job ? Just Kidding xD
Perhaps the Sound Board got screwed !?
    Thanks in Advance
    Jo

I have this same problem! From what I have read so far it seems to be the headphone jack that is the issue. Apparently you can change these out but I don't know if I am brave enough to try it.
I did have some luck with pulling the headphone plug out a bit. This seems to be a temporary fix but really in this case you are no longer connected and it is easy for the plug to fall out of the jack.
Good luck to us both, I guess!!

  • IPod sound problems.

Hi there. I'm having trouble with my iPod, specifically I get distorted/no sound from the right channel on my headphones. This first happened last night when I was listening in bed. The sound from the right earphone started distorting before finally cutting out. I found that I was able to get a fairly normal sound by holding the jack in various positions but when I put the iPod down the sound cut out again.
Has anyone encountered and been able to fix this? The headphones I was using were Sennheiser HD555s (only in use for a few days so is it possible they had something to do with it?) and I also use the iPod with an amplifier + high power speakers set up. Thanks.

wouldn't the foil make the sound mono, though?
grrr. i have this problem, right side too. my friend has this problem, right side too. every instance i've come across on the net seems to be right side.
it seems obvious to me that this problem is due to apple's construction of the ipod. why else always the right side?
of course my friend and i are both just outside our warranties.
question: i opened up my ipod, extremely easily i might add (with my fingernails!), and couldn't see how one might disconnect/replace the small metal box around the jack. i unscrewed the only accessible screw attached to the assembly, but it did not budge. i've closed it back up but want to know: how difficult is the process of replacing the jack myself?

  • Ipod Sound Problem - Urgent!

My ipod plays music perfectly , But whenever i try to listen to it,it only plays in one earphone. I have made sure the balance is normal , and tried several pairs on it. If i fiddle with the ear phones both will play , but It would mean id always have to hold it in place. Any help would be greatly appreicated!

Send it to apple through the apple care web page and see if they can fix it.
This all depends on how old your ipod is and if it is still under warrenty.

  • Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote

I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!

I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.

  • Apple Universal Dock works with iPod Touch 3G right?

I didn't see it in the "works with" section.
They did have iPod Touch 2G though.
So will it work for the new Touch?

I got the 3 Gen iPod Touch and the Universal dock,I can use the dock to sycn my iPod touch with my macbook pro,so I believe the Universal dock can't work perfectly with iPod touch 3G.
