Ipod touch 4th gen needed a new screen and sleep/wake switch.  So, I replace them.  I was able to get to settings and do "erase all content and settings".  I am not able to totally shut this device off as it keeps restarting after a few seconds.  I have used itunes to restore and also recover.  Device will actually shut off and stay shut off if I leave it connected to the computer.  The moment I unplug (3 seconds) the apple logo appears, it boots, unlock screen appears, I can unlock and operate normally, unplugged or not.  Just cant get it to completely shut down unplugged.  Any thoughts?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
  - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem. Maybe you installed a bad component or damaged something during the repair/replacement.
Apple will not help since you worked on the iPod yourself.

[Music files are still there, and I can play them on my computer directly from the iPod [just one track at a time] but not in the usual way, through headphones.]
On the Summary page of iTunes for the iPod, it shows 50-plus gigabytes of "Other" content and no music, which was not previously the case.  I assume this is related to the problem.
I can bring up individual tracks on the iPod and see cover art, but cannot play the music.

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

  • What should i do if my ipod touch 4 gen. has a white screen and it goes away rarely. Should i return it and get a new one

What should i do if my ipod touch 4 gen. has a white screen and it goes away rarely. Should i return it and get a new one?

If the problem persits after restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod then you likely have a hardware problem.  In that case an appointment at the Genius Bar of an apple store or returing it to Apple is in order.

  • Brought a second hand ipod touch 4th gen, tried to restore it and the battery died now it will not charge or switch on

Hello everyone I brought a second hand ipod touch 4th gen and it all worked fab except it wouldn't let me put any new apps on it so my friend suggested I restore it which I did but while it was restoring the battery died. Now it doesn't seem to be charging and I have left it for ages through the laptop and tried it through a geniune apple plug in charger but its not working. When you plug in the cable to the laptop or plug the little grey apple comes up on the screen but only stays on for about 5 maybe 6 seconds. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried all the trouble shooting suggestions on apple but none of its worked, Shall we just bin it and learn from our mistakes.
Thank you to anyone who can help

  • Ipod touch 4th Gen needs resetting everday

Over the last couple of weeks my ipod 4th Gen has started to become faulty. First it turned off, and I had to do a reset to get it working again, this was fine for a week, but then it happened again. I could only get it started again by doing a reset. It then failed the next day and needed to be restored via itunes. And now everyday it will turn off and need to be reset at least once a day. Sometimes the reset gets stuck and the ipod drains until there is no power left and will power back up when recharged, but will again turn off and require a reset.
If I'm using the ipod when its on, I might get 20 mins out of it. I dont think it has worked for more than an hour. But If I have left it, it could still be on 6 hours later until at some point it just turns off again.
I have just tried to reset all settings as stated in another thread, and during that the screen went off and itunes says the ipod is back in recovery mode and needs to be restored. This is getting more frustrating by the day. I will not be impressed if I have to pay £160 to get it repaired. For the cost brand new I expect it to work longer than a couple of years.
I went to get an appointment at the store in regents street but the genius bar was shut due to the iphone launch.
Does this sound terminal, or does anybody have any other ideas?

Playing gangstar vegas on an ipod touch 5th gen always lagging and the graphics are not smooth sometimes the ipod is too like when typing it will show the letter a second after i touched it,i will not purchase other apps if this continues will this problem be covered by the warranty

Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory.
    Next as necessary:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Ipod touch 4th gen missing about 12 songs and I can't get them to sync back.

After syncing my ipod, about 12 songs are missing and won't go back on. I've tried to take my music off my ipod and then put it back on but those songs are still missing. All the songs on my iTunes are checked. The music settings in iTunes for iPod says sync entire library and that's marked. And the songs are still on my iTunes... just not my iPod.

Try unsyncing and resyncing all of your music.  To do this, remove the tick mark next to Sync Music from under the iPod's Music tab and click Apply in the lower right hand corner. This will remove all tracks from the iPod. When it has finished, re-apply the check mark and again apply the changes to resync all music back over to the device. Make sure that Sync Entire library is still selected and that Sync only checked songs and videos is NOT selected.
    Any luck there?
Where are you getting the total number of songs at on both iTunes and your iPod Touch?

  • After updating to iOS 7, iPod touch 5th gen randomly partially blue screened and then restarted.

I was using my iPod touch 5th generation to listen to a podcast through the podcast app and searching the ebay app for some stuff and three quarters of the screen turned blue and part of the top of the blue part showed alternating colours of between what was on the screen and blue. Then my iPod restarted (and took a long time at that) and then it was just as if my iPod had restarted. Please help. This is first and only time that this has happened and nothing else was open on my iPod.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen vs. Original iPad and WiFi

Can anyone explain this to me?
I have an original iPad, it's old, well abused, but works well, stuck at iOS5, and a new iPod Touch 4thGen, not abused, iOS6 and works "ok".  Here's my issue,
using the same WiFi router that I do for ALL of my equipment, there is one spot in which my iPad will get WiFi just fine, but my iPod Touch will not get WiFi at all. Same exact position for both units, not touching either device, so there's no "hand position" issues.
I think it's an iOS driver issue, others seem to disagree. Other devices that work in the same exact spot: Droid tablet, Samsung Galaxy IIs, Windows XP/7 laptops/netbooks, and a Kindle Fire.  Seems to me, it's unique to the iPod Touch and it's annoying me enough that it is quite possible the Touch will be my last Apple purchase.

there is one spot in which my iPad will get WiFi just fine, but my iPod Touch will not get WiFi at all.
WiFi antennas are not created equal.  The iPod Touch has a different configuration than the iPad which will also affect the antenna.  The same goes for other WiFi devices, each will have its own unique antenna behaviors.
Have you checked that "Spot" to make sure you have a strong signal?  Building construction and placement of metal appliances can affect signal strength.
Have you checked that "Spot" to make sure you do not have WiFi interference from WiFi routers at your neighbors, from 2.4GHz cordless phones, 2.4GHz baby monitors, Microwave ovens (also operate on 2.4GHz frequences).
