IPod Touch does not hold a charge

I had a 3rd generation iPod Touch that would hold a charge for a long time until suddenly (just before the warranty ran out) it would no longer hold the charge.  I could fully charge it and leave it sit unused for about 3 days and it would be dead.  After much tech support from Apple (we tried restoring original settings, removing all apps, etc., etc., etc.), they sent me a replacement.  The replacement has had the same issue since day 1.  I have now been experimenting with other settings and it seemed to hold the charge a little better when the wifi was turned off, but I always used to leave the wifi on and it didn't drain the battery at all.  What is going on??

The recent iOSs for iPods allow the iPod to do more when the iPod is asleep.  I just leave my Ipod in airplane mode when I am not using it.  My 4G go excellent batter life with the original iOS (4.1 I think).  I could just let it sleep with wifi one.  However, wtih the resent iOSs, the batteyr would almost completly drain overnight.

You are still under warranty if your iPod is "new."  Take full advantage of it by either calling iPod tech support, Apple Care if you have it or take it in to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

If only the battery is bad, Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • IPod touch does not sync or charge with specific Mac

    Hello,
I've been having trouble connecting my iPod touch to an iMac4,1 1.83GHz Core Duo running Mac OS X 10.6.
The Mac in question will happily sync with an older iPod nano (back when the screens were black and white), but not my iPod touch which is the latest gen 32gb.
The iPod touch is able to sync with other iMacs at my uni, as well as the PC I have at home.
I have taken the following steps to alleviate the problem but nothing has helped:
    a) re-installed itunes
    b) re-installed apple mobile device
    c) checked for any updates.
Finally, if I start the iPod touch in recovery mode the iMac will detect it and attempt to restore it, but will fail with an error 1611.
Any help will be very appreciated.

    Welcome to the discussions,

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If after you charge it for about three hours and it only last about five minutes the battery is probably dead or there could be another hardware problem.  I would go back to the Apple store and ask them specifically how can it be OK if the fully charged battery only lasts five minutes.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.

My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.  It has worked great for many days until today.
I’ve tried two different Apple cables.
I’ve tried different USB ports on the computer.
I have rebooted both the Mac and the iPod.
I’ve wiggled the cables and checked for dust in the connectors.
The iPod charges using this same cable connected to wall wart.  That’s a good sign.
Both the Mac and iPod seem to work fine separate from each other.  They just won’t talk anymore.

    OS 10.4.11
    iTunes 9.2.1
    iPod Touch 32GB, version 3.1.3 (7E18), model PB533LL

I found this possible solution on another support thread, so I tried it.
    turn off iPod
hold Sleep and Home buttons to start it.
When Apple appears, let go of Sleep button, but keep holding Home button.
When screen goes blank, let go of Home button.
Connect cable and check iTunes to see if it has conencted.
This did not work for me.
I then turned off the iPod, restarted the Mac, and restarted the iPod normally.
I connected them with the cable, and it works like normal.  :-)

I have no clue what you mean by "all the different methods."  Here are my suggestions.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
