Ipod Touch won't mount after 10.5 install.

I upgraded to 10.5 over the weekend and am now unable to mount my ipod. When connected, the charge icon will appear but it won't connect to iTunes to backup or update. I've never had any problem getting it to connect before. Software update ran so I believe that the system is updated to 10.5.3, but I can't say right now as I am at work. Restarting with the ipod attached doesn't help, nor does restarting then attaching ipod. I know the USB slot works as I had my TM drive attached to it just before I tried to update. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you've covered most of the suggestions in this kbase article. Confirm that, then try the steps indicated in this other kbase article.
Hope this helps...

ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2.
I updated to itunes 11.0.2 today, after delaying it for a looong time (I have it @ work and don't like the new layout).
Since then, none of my ipods will mount/show up/update. I've tried all USB ports, 3 ipods, 3 cords. Wondering if you know of any issues. I've restarted the mac about 15-20 times today since as soon as I hook up an ipod, itunes immediately spins the beach ball and won't let me click out of it.
I've restarted the ipods 10+ times each.
All of the ipods DO show up on my desktop though. Just not in itunes anywhere with 11.0.2.
One more thing: It's not the cables or the ipods: they both mount fine when connected to my laptop (running old *** 10.4.11 and itunes 9.)
Machine is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

  • Ipod touch won't work after installing a new app.

    Hi!
Last night, I decided to install a new "Alarm clock," app and test it out by setting it to ring a minute later- what a BIG mistake, because during the time it was supposed to ring, it made my Ipod touch completely crash instead. For the past few hours all it's been doing is flashing back and forth between my homelock screen (with the "slide to unlock," bar at the bottom) and the Apple logo, with the round 'processing' image infront of it.
I have tried many different things to get it out of this funk but nothing has worked! I tried resetting the Ipod by holding down the menu and power button, the screen went black temporarily, didn't show the "slide to power off" bar and then just reloaded with the same two flashing images. I tried restoring it, but it wouldn't restore, until I did a special reboot that I read about via online boards- where you have to hold the power + menu buttons for 10 seconds, then release the power button whilst holding just the menu button for 10 seconds- but, whilst the Ipod did go through the whole restoring process thereafter, it didn't manage to sync up.
Now, not only does my ipod STILL flash back and forth between those two images. I keep getting an error message of (0xE80000001)! I used a different cable to try and sync up, but the blasted thing still won't stop flashing back and forth between those two images, and the ipod is not being recognised by itunes so the ipod keeps beeping, in and out of itunes and won't sync!
My ipod isn't 'jailbroken,' I haven't touched it's software or altered it in any way, to how it was sold to me. I would've liked to have brought it back the the Apple store to be looked at, but I don't think they'll help me because the top left hand corner of my Ipod is completely missing after my niece dropped it a few months ago- the Ipod still worked (up until I installed the **** alarm app) perfectly well until now!
Also, I have a mac, so any tips on how to access/help/fix this problem would have to have instructions for a Mac OS not Windows please!
    Many thanks!

I keep getting an error message of (0xE80000001)!

  • Ipod touch won't start after restore

Ipod touch 3rd Generation-  battery was completely dead after sitting for a week or so. I charged it but couldn't get it to turn on.  Went into recovery mode, connected it to the computer and re-loaded everything, but when restore is done, the IPOD still won't start or display in itunes.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My Ipod Touch won't restore after full reset!!! please help fast!!!

My Ipod touch 3g 8gb on 3.1.3 got some major problems recently. When I wanted to take a snapshot it just doesn't appear in photos. When I wanted to save an image from Safari it doesn't appear in photos. Then I got fed up and pressed Reset Settings. That finished and the photos problem wasn't solved. Still. I chose Reset all settings and content. I confirmed it and Ipod Touch was doing it for like 20-25min. After that it just won't start up. I am trying to restore it right now with iTunes and again to 3.1.3 (3.1.2 or other doesn't work). I clicked restore, everything went fine but now, it is stuck at like 95% and won't move. I really don't know what I did wrong and what I have to do to fix it. Any suggestions?

  • IPod touch won't mount or sync with iTunes?

ok here's my problem, 2 days ago i bought an 8gb iPod touch.
The first time i plugged it into my computer it mounted to iTunes and synced with iTunes seamlessly and quick.
Now when i plug it in, it will not even show up in iTunes.
    So far i've tried
    -restarting my iPod Touch
    -deleting itunes then re-installing iTunes
-restoring factory setting on iPod touch
-turning the ipod off, then once i open itunes, turning it on
nothing happens, itunes works fine, but my iPod just will not sync or mount to iTunes 8
    please! someone help me!

ok i figured it out.. not what was wrong but what to do.. you have to restore your system without having the iPod connect of course.. then uninstall itunes and quicktime then delete every trace of them from your computer. (once you reinstall iTunes you will get back everything you had) then once you restart your computer reinstall itunes and restart your computer again. now plug ur iPod Touch in the computer and it will work then.
same thing happened to mine.. it took a while to figure it out but i got it...
you have to uninstall them then delete it from program files... now it works perfectly

  • IPod Touch won't sync after restore

iPod Touch, 1st gen., system software 3.1.3
I know this is an old device and there probably aren’t many people still using OS 3.1.3 but this is what I’ve got.  All was working reasonably well before I performed a restore, hoping to remedy some slowness.  However, since reloading both software and contents, I continually get the following message while performing a sync: “The iPod “Laurent Fignon” cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found.”  While podcasts are updated, photo albums will not load before that message appears and the sync ends.  I’ve tried the restore a couple of times since, thinking that might help but I continue to see the same message when trying to sync.
Rest of the platform is MacBook Pro 4.1, OS 10.6.8, iTunes 10.6.3

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
After trying a couple of less labor intensive suggestions, I downloaded and reinstalled iTunes.  Performed a reboot.  Started iTunes.  Tried to sync the iPod Touch.  Still stopped mid-way through with the same message - "The Pod cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be  found."  As the sync had been quitting at the point where it said it was installing photos, I unchecked the "Sync Photos From" button and tried to sync again.  This time the sync finished successfully.  However, I'd like the photos from the album "iPod Touch" in my iPhoto library to be on the iPod Touch.  It is listed as an album in iPhoto and I can view the pics there but iTunes apparently can't find them.  There is no folder in user/Pictures/ called "iPod Touch".  I don't think I can open the iPhoto Library file.  Anyone have another idea?

  • Ipod Touch won't restore after memory cleared

    Hi,
i have an ipod touch 2g that was on 3.1.2 software, and i needed to clear memory and start over. i clicked the option "erase all content and settings" in the settings menu of the ipod.
after it had finished clearing the memory i plugged the ipod back into the computer and put it into the mode with the cable and the itunes icon (the mode that it was in when it came in the box) after it went into that mode it showed up on itunes as a "device that needs to be restored", so i clicked restore, it extracted firmware, and now has been stuck on "waiting for ipod" for 10 hours, with the ipod's screen showing an apple and an empty loading bar (has stayed empty for 10 hours)
    anyone help?
    thanks in advance

    Welcome to the discussions,
Did you try to connect in recovery mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If this does not work, locate the *.ipsw firmware file on your computer and copy it to a save place and delete the original file, leave the folder empty and don't delete it. This will make itunes get a new copy from Apple instead of using the one stored on your computer, maybe it got damaged. Then try again to restore.

  • My ipod touch won't work after software update.

Last month I downloaded a software update for my iPod Touch and afterwards it wouldn't work or connect to my PC. It just showed a picture of the USB cable with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo.
I fixed the problem by plugging the iPod into my other PC - where it connected no problem - and I Restored it. I then plugged it back into the first PC and re-synchronized it there. It worked fine after that.
I just downloaded a software update for iTunes and the iPod Touch, and I have the same problem. I know that I can go through the same time-consuming solution as last time but how do I fix this so that it doesn't keep happening?
My PC does seem to recognise the iPod as a camera when it connects. Could that be it? Help please.

    Have you tried everything here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
It is normal/expected for the computer to recognize the iPod as a camera.  It would only be a possible problem if you installed a program such as for a camera or scanner.

  • IPod touch won't boot after memory issue

I've spent the evening diagnosing my daughter's 32G 4th gen iPod touch. She was getting very sluggish performance and syncs. I took a look and she had under 200MB free. The vast bulk of the memory was being held in apps, according to iTunes (I never could get Settings->General->Usage to finish for me). She has very few apps on the iPod, but I suspected that tumblr was the culprit since it downloads so many images.
I removed tumblr via iTunes and found out that my guess was right. But then I saw that the supposedly freed memory (over 20GB!!) was filling the "Other" bar. I read that excess Other memory could be cleared up by doing a restore, so I disconnected the iPod, did another sync to get a fresh backup, and then tried to restore. iTunes told me that it could not restore because there wasn't enough memory on the iPod. At the same time, the iPod rebooted but never got off the screen with the Apple.
At this point, I can get rid of the Apple screen by holding down both the power and home keys to reset, and after the reset, I hold just the power button. The Apple appears briefly and then it shuts off.
I can also get into DFU mode connected to iTunes on our iMac. I understand that if I go forward with that, I wipe everything on the iPod, a fresh version of iOS gets installed, and then we can do a restore from the last good backup I did - hopefully without reinstalling all of that Other memory.
So, after that lengthy explanation.... Is the clean start my only hope with this thing? If I took it to my Apple Store, might they be able to get it working without the factory reset? Any ideas?
I then need to present the options to my daughter before proceeding.   One thing is clear: No more tumblr on the iPod.
    Thanks in advance!

    You're welcome, glad it worked

  • Ipod touch won't restart after putting it in standby

    Hi,
After putting my ipod touch on standby for a few hours, it doesn't start up again until I connect it to my computer via USB. The battery's always fully charged but it still doesn't restart from standby. Any idea what to do?

Same problem here and there are also other topics covering this.
I have an "end of September" very first version of the 16 GB iPod Touch and after 1.1.2 update this problem appeared. Unfortunately 1.1.3 does not fix this.
If the iPod "goes to sleep" and you leave it in this state for some of time, it just freezes/locks up and the only way to recover it is either to press Home + Sleep buttons (as AAPL points out) or connect it to your computer via USB cable.
Someone suggested to totally restore the iPod (with iTunes) WITHOUT importing the last backup (that is select "New iPod" after restore), but it does not work.
By the way, it seems to work for about a day, but then the problem reappears. I have tried several times the complete restore + new iPod, but no luck!
The only change (after the last restore) is that now, instead of totally locking up (black screen), sometimes the iPod reboots (otherwise it locks up), though it is expected to simply wake up from sleep.
From other topics, I learned that Apple is far from acknowledge the problem and if you send the device to Service, they will return it as "no problems found".
I suspect this issue involves the first version of iPod Touch only and has something to do with power management and battery.
Let's only hope that Apple will set up a repair program for us...
The only workaround I found is to shut down the iPod Touch if I plan not to use in the next 10 minutes...
... quite annoying, but I guess this is safer than waiting for it to freeze.
    Cheers!

  • My ipod touch won't dim after one minute

I have an ipod touch 3rd gen and the other day I was changing some settings which changed a setting regarding the back light. I have it set to auto lock at one minute but as I have the music playing the ipod won't dim or lock itself unless I physically lock it.

    Follow the instructions here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/
It will probably result in having to restore the iPod. Here are those instructions, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the Pod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the iPod in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".

  • Ipod Touch won't sync after updating iTunes

I updated my iTunes and now my ipod touch will not sync, it says that the ipod is synced with another iTunes library when it is not, is there a way to get it to sync?

With all the synced media like apps and music in your iTunes library do the following:
    - Make a backup in iTunes by:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup. The above link includes that restore from backup instructions.
Somehow updating iTunes caused iTunes/iPod to think it was not synced to this library. That happens sometimes.

  • Ipod Touch Won't Start after Latest Upgrade

I was just prompted to upgrade my Ipod Touch 4g to the latest version of software. It went through the download process and started to install the software. At the end of the installation I got an error message that said something to the effect that the software could not finish installing. Now my screen is stuck with the usb cable and the itunes logo and I can't reset my Ipod. I have pressed the ON/OFF button with the HOME key button for ten seconds and I can't get rid of the usb cable and Itunes logo.
Do I have any options here? My Ipod is less than 3 months old.

You can use RecBoot to get it out of recovery mode or try doing a manual install, as  outlined in link below.
