Ipod Wifi reception weaker than 90 year old granny

Is there a way to increase the ipod touch reception of wifi?
I live right next to a park, so close I open my back gate and I am in the park.  One of my normal summer activities is sitting in the park tapping away on my laptops on the internet while my boy plays.  Well, we got him this Ipod touch 4g (a pretty penny spent for a fancy 21st century walkman mind you).  After reading about it I was excited to see it had wifi and I could use yahoo messenger to contact him while he was in the park (you know, so I can stay on the couch watching 2 1/2 men).
The ipod doesnt get enough reception after 20 steps into the park, so unless he is just outside the gate it has no connection.  Odd, I've been in a friends house using my wifi signal and they live on the opposite side of the park...  I just dont get why my other electronics can read the wifi, yet my ipod cannot.  I'd love to ask apple support - but you sly guys, requiring us to pay just to even ask a question.
So on the net I browsed for answers, and found old posts telling of an app you can get that adjusts the reception power in the settings (you know, same way you raise the power of your wifi router signal, which is the first thing i tried to resolve the issue - which got it the bars, but still no connection).  So hey, it gets wifi inside our house where its pointless (you know, in the house is where we have 5+ computers, why use an ipod inside for the net).  Back to the app... the last replies mention how apple removed the app from their store.
So... have I just missed the proper fix posts on the net or is the wifi reception just hopelessly weak?
PS - I did a test, had my 90 year old grandma stand by my back door and holler to my son in the park.  He heard her.  Then I tried to IM him, but nope, no signal.  So my conclusion is the Ipod touch wifi reception is weaker than my 90 year old grandma.

They sell high-gain antenna for wifi routers.  I would try one of those.  Some have directional features so you can aim them where you are. Otherwise, there is nothing you can do since you can't change anything on the iPod.

  • Why is wifi reception weaker on am ipad than a macbook

Why can I pick up more hotspots on my macbook than my ipad mini even when they are placed next to each other?

Even a 3 year old MacBook has 4 times the CPU power and about ten times the RAM of an iPad.
You can run speed tests on the iPad and make sure that you don't have a connection problem.

  • Ipod nano 2nd gen, 5 years old, has short battery life. Can the battery be replaced? If not, does apple have a replacement program? how much?

    Details:
5 year old 2nd Gen Ipod nano only works for an hour the most. Battery may be approaching end of life.
Can this still be replaced? if not, what are my options? Does apple have a replacement program?

Just would like to share with you, my experience with a friend's Nano with a smiliar problem
The battery level could be too low to boot up the OS of the iPod, which even may corrupted (if you see a folder icon).
The best way to fix it, is to connect it with different device other than your PC as it is likely not get charge at all, e.g.
    1. car charger
    2. ac charger
    3. ipod speaker dock system
    4. using firewire cable
    5. with a Mac computer
The key is to charge the battery level up to the minimum for you to put your Nano into disk mode

once you see the "tick" mark, connect it with a computer, and try to do a Restore for your iPod. In case you still do not manage to get your iPod to be recognized by a PC, I am afraid you have to connect it with a Mac, very likely it will allow you to do a Restore as I did last night

  • Why doesn't work my wifi on my one year old phone?

    Dear Apple Support,
I have a problem with my phone (Iphone 4S). I bought my phone in November
2012. The problem is that the wifi does not work on my phone since
approximately December 2013. This very unfortunate for me, becouse the
warrancy terminated in November 2013. So one month after the warrancy time.
I realised the problem after seeing my phone bill was higher due to the
    increased use of 3G.

And it would cost me 1/4 th of the price of the phone. In the service they
said, there is a waiting list becouse of the many problems of the same
kind. So I have to wait 2 weeks for the new part for a lot of money.
I have a similar issue with my Toyota.  I got a letter last year that my
car has a type problem with the airbag. The company replaces the airbag in
may car for free. May car is 10 years old.
Finally, I have always liked the products of Apple and the company.
I would appriciate it if we found the best solution for my problem. I hope
    you can help me.
Thank you is advance. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
    Yours Sincerely,
    Anita Jokán

  • Can I disable the iMessage feature on an iPod touch for my 8 year old

  • Iphone 4s less than year old att, want work, blue and white lines black screen

I have a iphone 4s with ATT, not even a year old.  I dropped phone and now the screen is black with blue and white lines.  I have attempted to reset the phone with no success.  Is this a matter I can resolve with ATT or do I have to drive to genuis bar to get resolved?

It's probable that the iPhone has suffered hardware damage, and I don't believe an AT&T Store can do anything for you on such issues. You'll need to take or send your iPhone to Apple and pay their out-of-warranty service charge to get the iPhone replaced.
    Regards.

  • Restore keeps asking for my wife's previous, 5 year old, no longer remembered, Apple ID password. What can I do?

Gen 3 iPad went into "Recovery" mode while updating to 8.0.2. requiring a "Restore."  iPad is now in it's 17th hour of trying to restore and recover all data backed up in cloud and on MacBook Pro.  Odd think - I keep being asked for a password my wife had on her first iPad, one associated with an email provider with haven't used in over 5 years.  We have no recollection of that old password.  What can I do?

First, the iPad should not take 17 hours to restore. Perhaps if your wifi was extremely slow, but if you're restoring from a backup made to the computer, it should take no more than 20 minutes or so. I would be inclined to start again - connect to iTunes, click Restore within iTunes, and go from there.
The only time an AppleID would get in the way of restoring is if it was used to set the Find My iPad feature. If this is the case, you're going to have to recover access to the AppleID. Start here:
If you forgot your Apple ID password

  • My iPod touch is only a year old, and it won't work properly.

About a year ago I got a refurbished iPod touch. It worked fine for a while. Then one day the screen stopped turning sideways and I got used to that it was ok I could use the iPod for music without a sideways screen. But now it is just going crazy. I'll turn it on and be listening to music or watching Youtube videos for a little bit and it will do a combination or all of these things:
-The screen with go white and it will take a really long time to restart itself and go back to the black screen with the apple on it.
-I will randomly lose internet connection and I'll have to restart the iPod to get it back
-The iPod will keep bringing up the sliding thing that asks me if I want to turn it off
-The screen will turn black for a second and go back to the locked screen. It will keep flashing and when I press the home button it will take a screenshot of my locked screen. (The picture appears in the photos section of my iPod. I didn't even know iPod could take screenshots! I don't have any cameras or photo equiptment on my iPod.) My on/off button will stop working and the screen will keep flashing and turning off randomly until it either turns white or resets itself.
-(This one happens every time) My speakers have stopped charging and working with my iPod. They worked fine before! I don't know if it's the iPod or the speakers:(
All these happen randomly and have gotton worse over the days. I can still kind of use my iPod but it is definetly a struggle. As far as I know, it is not a problem with my battery. The battery works fine and charges normally but only when I connect it to my laptop.
What do you think? Is it time to get a new iPod or can I fix it somehow? I know the newer iPods cost a lot so I would like to keep this one as long as possible because I like it and it wasn't a lot of money. I really hope I don't have to ask for a new one they cost a lot but as I read this over it sounds like fixing it may cost more then just buying a new one.......
And by the way how long do the newer iPods typically last? If I'm going to get a new one I want to make sure it isn't crappy and won't die on me after one year.

    Typically they work OK until:
    - They break because of misuse like dropping
    - The battery dies
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPhone5 WiFi/3G SLOWER than my old iPhone4. Can download speeds be improved??

I am in Brisbane, Australia and recently upgraded to the iPhone5, while I gave my old 32GB iPhone4 to my wife and her old 16GB iPhone4 to my daughter. We are all with the main telco here - Telstra.
I am also a long term user of the app TuneIn Radio.
    WHAT I HAVE NOTICED...
I have gone back and forth between our old iPhone4's and new iPhone5 and the iPhone5 is definitely slower with both WIFI and 3G and even 4G. Even when I was in Sydney CBD with 4G, the TuneIn Radio was buffering every ten minutes or so, while the iPhone4 played uninterrupted with 3G.
I wonder if it's the hardware and if a new iPhone5 replacement might fix the problem or should I wait for a software update?
Or can someone suggest some settings changes or diagnostics to troubleshoot?
    Thank you.

    Hi Bapiow,
Remember that the connection between your WiFi router and any device will only be able to use its theoretical maximum speed if the device, in this case his laptop, is pretty much in the same room with no line of sight obstructions.
As his laptop isn't a Wireless N, he won't be able to get the theoretical max 108Mbps connection, obstructions (like brick walls) and distance will also be factor. Old stone walls, and concrete prefab walls are especially disruptive.
Also keep in mind that connection speed isn't the same as a browsers download rate. E.g. Your connection speed could be 40Mbps, but your browser download rate would read as 5MB/s
    Hope this helps.

I Bought a new battery less than a year a go since the original wasn't holding a charge. The new one is doing the same thing. Now what do I do?

Did you buy a battery directly from Apple or a cheap third party knock off? Experience has taught me that you get what you pay for. Buy a better battery and follow the tips here for maximizing it's life.
