Ipod won't sync to music files on external harddrive

I have too many music files to keep on my computer, so I 've got them on an external (E) drive. Itunes has no problem with that. I have my Library file on the computer (C drive) and the music files on the E drive. When I want to use Itunes to play a song from the E drive, I just click on the library listing in Itunes on the C drive and it finds the song and plays it no problem. However, my Ipod can't seem to find the files on the E drive to sync to them or download them.

Have you connected any new USB devices recently? Has the drive letter of the external drive been changed? Have you checked the external drive for errors? Does the problem persist if you power off the computer, then restart with the iPod & your external drive as the only USB devices?

  • IPod won't sync all music to iTunes

I recently got a new Macbook Pro and needed to transfer over all of my music on iTunes from my old laptop. My iPod Touch has enough space to hold my entire iTunes library, so I synced it with the iTunes library on my old laptop, got everything onto it, and then synced it with my new Macbook Pro.
However, the iTunes on my Mac refuses to sync any music from my iPod that was not purchased from the iTunes store at some point. 75% of my music is from CDs and so 75% of my music will not transfer from my iPod to my iTunes.
I can't adjust anything on the tab on iTunes for syncing all music/entire library because I get a message saying if I do this all of the content on my iPod will be erased and replaced with what is currently in iTunes, which is barely anything.
All I've ever done is fought with iTunes every single time I try to do anything significant with it and I'm sick of it. I don't understand why iTunes won't simply take all the music from my iPod and put it into the library. That's all I want.
Please, can anyone help me with this?

OK after a long night I think I have answered my own question. I hope this helps others who may have experienced the same level of frustration I have.
If your music won't download from iTunes to your iPod because it is not 'authorised' see if this helps.
Go to the album or song that is not 'authorising'. Select it and push play. It should ask you for authorisation or a username and password. Put in your username and password, it should then go to iTunes store and it will now be authorised.
Be careful not to make the same mistake that I made and have multiple iTunes Store accounts. Mainly because I think it creates these problems on transfer of your library and secondly because you may not remember the password. If you forget the password, then simply get iTunes store to resend it. The only problem may be if your email account no longer exists. Mine does, so not sure what happens if it doesn't.
This in itself may not fix the problem either. I noticed on the left hand side of the music library, met to the song names etc, the '!" symbol in the column. This will also prevent it copying to your iPod. I am not technical, but it seems it lost the file path in transfer. Just double click the song and it will ask you if you want to find the path. Click yes and then search through iTunes library until you find the song. Double click the song and bingo you should now be able to transfer the music.
It took less time for me to finish by Business Degree, but its the only way I found to get around all the authorisation problems
    Hope this helps

  • IPod won't sync, neither music nor update

    Hey all,
So i've got a 32GB iPod Touch 4g running 4.3.5 (8L1). Every time I try to update it on my computer, it won't work (laptop running OS X Lion and iTunes 10.5); It constantly tells me that my iPod is ineligible for the selected build. Additionally, every time I hit the sync button in iTunes while my iPod is connected, it doesn't sync music; there is the loading screen saying that it is determining the tracks to sync, but never actually syncs anything. Any help on this would be very much appreciated; I've tried many things, including:
    - Restarting my computer
    - Attempting to restore iPod (Won't work)
    - Trying to put it into DFU mode (Can't seem to enter DFU mode,

This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • IPod won't sync my music

Hi there. I'm not exactly technically savy, and I've hit a wall as far as critically thinking is concerned with this issue. So, I cannot figure out what's wrong with my iPod.
I have a 5th Generation iPod and I'm having some problems uploading music. Earlier today, when I plugged in my iPod I realized that some music that I'd formerly purchased at the iTunes store was still on my iPod; I have since purchased the cd, erased the iTunes files from my computer, and downloaded the music from the cd.
An alert popped up saying something to the effect of: "You have purchased music on iPod that have been erased from computer; do you want to download them?" I quickly said yes because I forgot about this music. Then, I uploaded all of the checked items in my iTunes music library, including several playlists. It took a little tinkering (unchecking music that I didn't want to listen to), but I pared down my song selection and crammed the iPod practically to maximum capacity.
Later today, I realized that my iPod now had duplicate copies of the same album, so I tried to delete the purchased music from iTunes, and then update my iPod. But now it won't download that same amount of music??? I've reset, reinstalled, and restored my iPod, but I keep getting notices that it won't hold that same amount of music that it held earlier today.
What might I be leaving out of this process? Is there any way of telling how much I've gone over so I can cut out the appropriate amount of music?
Thanks for any support you guys can give.

  • Ipod won't sync...files/directory corrupted..

    Hello,
I have been trying to sync my Ipod with Itunes and I keep getting an error message that says basically it can't sync because the files or directory has become corrupted and unreadable.
Searching other sites I see some mention of this issue for others, and suggestions that the issue is likely due to files being "locked" in the directory and once "unlocked" the problem goes away.
My issue is I am pretty computer dumb when it comes to locating directories and knowing what to look for and do once I am there. Also, the "fixes" I've read thus far are for folks running a Mac..I have a PC...any fixes for a PC?
Has anyone had experience with this Ipod issue, and can someone please explain to me in step-by-step directions how to get to the directory so I can look for these "locked" files?? Then what to do with them?
Thank you so much, any help is greatly appreciated!!

  • New ipod won't sync purchased music from itunes library

I just purchased a new ipod and when I try to sync my library it will not transfer any purchased songs that are in my library.  All the songs are checked and I selected sync all music.

Do these purchased tracks play in iTunes?  What other options do you have enabled from under the Summary and Music tabs for your iPod?  Are you saying non-iTunes purchased tracks sync okay?

  • IPod won't sync purchased music...

I'm using the 5th generation ipod nano...which I haven't used in a while due to getting a touch screen.
Now that I'm trying to use it again... it won't sync anything I've bought on itunes, because of some 'error' ... I don't know how to fix it at this point considering I've reset it more than once.
    ...any ideas?

  • IPod won't sync purchased music, games, or video?

Ok so i plugged my iPod in a few days ago to my computer to sync it. everything was going well until- "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." Now, i went into 'store', clicked authorize, it worked, i can play them on my computer now. so when i go to sync them to my iPod, it still won't do it. I have done everything itunes support has told me to. The 5 R's, deleting certain files, putting the files in another folder and then back again. everything. i have spent well over $300 on stuff from the itunes store and cant just write all of it off. please keep in mind, i CAN play the songs on my computer. my computer IS authorized. it's just not transferring them to my iPod. i have a 5.1 generation iPod video and all of my music is on an 80g external hard drive. Please help!!! thanks.

  • My iPod won't sync new music

This is a long explanation of my problem: I have an iPod Nano 6th gen that I've had for years with a pretty large playlist. I also just upgraded my iPhone to the 5s and have made recent music purchases. I just recently purchased a new laptop and am trying to sync the new music to my iPod. I can see my iPod being recognized in my iTunes, but I can't get any of the music to play (the text is a dim gray color), but the recent music purchases from my phone will in a separate playlist. I can't find a way to combine the 2 playlists and update all the music onto my iPod. How can I combine the 2 playlists, and sync them to my iPod? I tried going to the music settings on iTunes for the iPod, and it has "sync playlist" checked (once again, gray text and I can't change options). The only box I can check is the one at the top, but when I check it a warning window pops up and I'm pretty sure it's warning me that all the content on my iPod will be wiped clean. Help

That error means that yo are trying to sync more media to the iPod than you think,

  • IPod won't sync "too many files currently open"

Every time I try to connect my iPod there is an error that says "cannoy sync iPod too many files currently open." I'm not sure what this means because I only have iTunes open and it still will not sync. Please help! Thanks!

I had the same problem. I just turned off my shared playlists and restarted my itunes. it worked after that

  • IOS 7 won't sync some music files (unsupported)

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2 and MacBook running iTunes 11.3.1.
When manually syncing music, I get an error with some files - "File type unsupported." The mystery is that the files it says aren't supported are the same kind that have been synced. I cannot figure out what the difference is--all are MPEG-1, Layer 3 files. Even one from the same album will sync while the next will not.
I have enough storage for all music I'm trying to sync.
    Thoughts?

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes and provide your account information when prompted.

  • Ipod classic won't sync, lost music DESEPERATE!!!

Downloading new music that i had just bought from the Itunes store, my Ipod classic (30 gb) forze up and now it won't sync any music file. At first it stated a 48 error, then something about artwork error and now it posted that
there's a corrup file and should run Chkdsk utility (which I have no idea what it is), and lost all the music I had in the Ipod but didn't lose any photos. This happened in both machines I work on. What can I do about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes won't sync new music

I recently put some new albums on my iTunes, but my iPod won't sync the music! I also updated some things with other albums by the same artist(I added album artwork) and it showed those updates. Then I got another album and put that on there, and that album syncs! These three albums just WON'T sync to my iPod...why is that? I checked and they have the right information for the artist/album artist, album, genre, tracks, all that stuff. What would keep music from being synced?

Well that's weird they won't sync, then - if they play in itunes, your PC is authorized OK for those songs if they are purchased, and if they are not purchased, it's a file type itunes can recognize.
    Any errors?
Are you actually syncing the music to the iPod, or manually managing the music?
Where did you get them - download, ripped from CD using itunes?
