IPodTouch in the clear YES, WPA-No-WEP-no  Failure to aquire in secure mode

I moved my router and modem. Before the move the router was secured, now on reinstall the wireless devices work if I keep the router in the clear ,but fail to connect if I use a secure type connection.
I have reset the router a Netgear WGR614V5 and it has the latest firmware. The error on the both the Ipod Touch and the netbook is incorrect password. I know the passsword after the reset it's 'password.' Any ideas here, I'm using the default setting on the router-I using Comcast as the provider.

Don't confuse your router password with your network password. Open the router control screen in your browser and go to the WPA encryption screen. Make sure you select a personal version, no server needed (often referred to as PSK) and enter a password. I suggest you make it rather complex example: 8gBiPodt which is 8 characters (it can be longer). Save your settings, and then restart your router.
On your touch, go to Settings > WiFi > Other network and type in your network name. Select security and then tell the iPod you are using WPA, then enter your network password "8gBiPodt" or whatever you chose. The password is case sensitive, so don't forget.
You should be connecting fine. Reconnect all of your other wireless devices.
If you still are having problems, write back.

  • Problems auto-connecting after sleep & startup (Changed from WPA to WEP)

Okay, I know there have been several issues similar to this, but after two days of sifting through posts, I still can't resolve this.
A few days ago I switched my AirPort network security from WPA to WEP-128. This was required to allow my Nintendo DS to connect to the netwrok, by the way. After the change, two similar, but slightly different problems started:
My 15" PowerBook G4 no longer auto-connects to the network at startup. The network is listed in the drop-down, and connects with no problem when I choose it manually. The computer seems to have no problem re-connecting after waking from sleep, which is odd because...
My other PowerBook, a 12" G4, won't auto-connect at startup AND won't re-connect after sleep. As above, it has no problem connecting using the Keychain once the network is selected from the drop-down.
So far I have tried, on both machines:
    - trashing the system airport prefs
    - deleting and resetting the network's keychain entry
    - repairing the keychain (no errors found)
    - turning off some unneeded power mgt options
    - disconnecting USB peripherals
I have also reloaded the software on both my AirPort Extreme base and my AirPort Express hub, as well as restarting both hubs. I've also made sure that AirPort is at the top of the network connection list.
Both laptops are running 10.4.3 and have all the latest software updates installed.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks.

Both of these replies are helpful, in that they help confirm something I figured out this morning, almost accidentally.
One thing I didn't mention was that during the change from WPA to WEP I changed the network password. Now, I assumed that since the Keychain seemed to be working and I could get on the network manually without needing to enter the password each time, that meant the new password had correctly propagated throughout the system.
So, this morning I go into the Network settings, switch from Automatic to Preferred, select my network, look at the properties, and notice that somehow it has way too many bullets for that to be the correct password. I re-entered the password and that seems to have solved the problem. The new password I had entered somehow didn't make it into this setting. I guess trashing the network prefs, or renaming the network would have had the same effect.

  • WPA versus WEP for Wireless Routher Setup

What is the difference between WPA and WEP for the wireless router setup?
I have a WRT160N router and after a lot of hassle and downgrading my firmware to build 8, I had to change the wireless setup from WPA to WEP in order to get my wireless laptop to connect to the internet.
Previously, I had been able to connect with the WPA setup, but after the firmware downgrade I was unable to connect and customer support had me change the wireless setup to WEP.

Hello jns, WPA is stronger than WEP encryption. Check out their description.
Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is a 64-bit key with 10 hexadecimal digits or a 128-bit WEP key with 26 hexadecimal digits. This encryption will prevent other users from connecting to a wireless network using your own WEP key. It will also protect your wireless transmissions/communications from being accessed or received by other users.
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a Wi-Fi standard that was designed to improve the security features of WEP. WPA is stronger than WEP encryption. PSK and PSK2, types of WPA, give you a choice of two encryption methods, TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol), which incorporates Message Integrity Code (MIC) to provide protection against hackers, and AES (Advanced Encryption System), which utilizes a symmetric 128-Bit block data encryption.
If your PC is using WinXP SP1 then WPA is not advisable for your wireless security because WinXP SP1 is not supported with WPA, you can use WEP for your wireless security but if your PC is using WinXP SP2 or Vista OS or MAC then I suggest you use WPA personal for your wireless security to make your wireless key stronger.
    Hope that helps!

  • Can WRT54G use WPA and WEP at the same time?

I used to have a smc 802.11b wireless router and a dlink 802.11b wireless print server.
In order to have WPA and a firewall, I replaced the wireless router with a linksys WRT54G.
Then I realize the dlink print server, even though it has the "g" keyword in the model name, does not do WPA (DP-G321).
Do I have to buy a 802.11g wireless print server? Or is there another solution?
I don't supposed the linksys router can do both WPA and WEP at the same time?
Connecting the print server to the router with a cable is not feasible. They are on different floors.

both of your devices are has a wireless b technology settings, just set a wep encryption on your network rather than wpa because some wireless b devices don;t work with wpa. with regards to your query if wep and wpa can be used at the same time, the answer is no.

  • WRT54GL Can't set WPA or WEP and connect

Okay, brand new WRT54GL, setup on the network, can connect, no problem.  If I goto setup the WPA or WEP and enter the corresponding info on the Windows machine, I can't connect to the router.  It leases an IP, and I can see in ipconfig (dhcp client) that I have a IP from the router, the new router IP (I changed it to 250 to verify I'm connecting and not getting something legacy) shows up as my router, but then I can't ping it or connect to the router in any way.  If I disable the WPA or WEP, it works fine.
Just for the record, I run WEP on everything I touch, home, work, family and friends houses when I set up their wireless, etc.  I do networking day to day, but granted I'm not changing my WEP WPA regularly (often enough to consider myself safe, but not Best Practices regularly) so I know what's up there.  But on this box, it doesn't do.  This is my first foray into the GL (I was thinking of the WRT fw's, but this isn't my box), so I didn't know if there was something different I should look at?
So, as you can probably guess, this box isn't at my house, it's at my buddies.  I can go over and check on things, but I can't do it immediately.  I'ld like to just see if maybe I overlooked something stupid.  The part that's throwing me off is that I've done this countless times.  Does this sort of thing ever happen to anyone else?  I'm trusting that one of the forum regulars can thump me on the head and I'll see clearly.  He is using it right now in unsecured mode, so no problem there.

Tried resetting about a dozen times while I was attempting this the first time.  I did that because I knew that would be the first thing I would be asked to do.
The only error I was getting was that Windows could not authenticate with the device.  (I forget the error, and did not go over there this weekend).  Wouldn't it be nice if Windows told you exactly what the error was?  What has me stymied is that Windows got it's complete DHCP info from the router, but wouldn't let me connect to the router (or anything else) so obviously it did auth at some point.

I Checked SE11 REGUP table, if the documents You don't see by F-44 are already contained into a payment proposal.
If Yes, You should delete the F110 payment proposal to see them by F-44.
I deleted the payment proposal, even though Iam not able to see the docuements in F-44. what to do?
I Checked the table BSIK and Also BSAK it is showing this docu nos.

  • Block cancelling the cleared billing documents

    Hi Friends,
Currently system is allowing to cancel the cleared billing document and business does want to do that, for example when F2 billing type document is cancelled then it is generating S1 type cancelled document.
I think I can prevent this by config ( in VOFA for billing type F2 under section cancellation>Copying requirements> assign 29.
And I need to do it for all billing types,
    Now my queries are:
Do I need to do any config for cancelled billing type (S1)  as well ?
Is there complication for doing that?
Whether I would be able to cancel the uncleared billing document in this way?
Or just I can proceed what I mentioned above.
    Regards
    Ashu

    So I do need to assign 29 in only billing document type F2;
is there any change required for cancelled billing document type (S1)?
Yes only in F2. Not in S1.
So if accounting document of billing type is showing as
cleared then only system will not allow to cancel it.
Will it allow to cancel the billing document if accounting
document ( of type F2) is showing as not cleared?
Yes that will allow you to do so.
Say, due some price change, you want to cancel an invoice with cleared accounting doc and you are using 29 in routine. Then in that case take use of Invoice correction request / credit memo request / debit memo request based on your business requirement.
    Thanks & Regards

  • I changed my WRT54G security settings from WPA to WEP

I changed my WRT54G security settings from WPA to WEP and now one of my latops (Dell 5100) will not connect wirelessly. It is using a linksys wireless-B notebook adapter. I am at a loss at how to reconnect this to my wireless network.

Go to the setup page of the router on the wired computer and click on the Wireless tab, check the network name(SSID),change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462 GHz,Keep the SSID broadcast enable and click on save settings...Click on the subtab Wireless Security and change the Security mode to WEP or WPA as per your requirement. If you are using WEP then, note down the KEY1 as the network key(case sensitive)...
Now,on the laptops, delete the preferred network and then, try to connect the Wireless Network.

  • I am unable to deleat history since I updated my ipad to iOS 7. The clear button is not working, any ideas please?

I am unable to clear my browsing history in safari since I updated to ios7. The clear button is greyed out. Any subsections please?

If it is one year old minus one day it is still under warranty. If it is more than a year since you purchased it then yes, the warranty has expired.
Millions of iPads have been sold. Most continue to function long after their warranty has expired. Check the many requests about updating the iOS on the original iPad on these forums and you'll see that there are many iPads still working after three years. My iPad 2, which I had for over two years is still working well for my son in law who took it over from me when I bought a new one.
Given that there will always be a few iPads that fail early. Most of those will be covered under warranty. But some will fail after the warranty has expired and before the owner expected it to. I'm sorry to hear that you are in this category. Take your iPad to an Apple store and have it looked at. They will provide you with alternatives, one of which is to purchase a like model to the one that failed at a discount. You can then know your options and make the best choice for you.

  • Wireless speed haircut using wpa vs wep vs no security.

I'm just curious what type of speed haircuts people experience when using wpa vs wep vs no security.  I would have expected something like a 10 to 20% decrease in download and file transfer speeds instead of what I'm seeing.
My non scientific tests are as follows:
                                        d/l                  u/l
    wpa
                                     1.280            692
                                     1,189             338
                                        909          1,602
    wep                         8.089           1,043
    no security
                                    11,485          1,658
                                      4,813           1.072
                                       3,047          1.842
Please ignore the obvious anomilies in the test speeds other than the slow wpa transfers.
The tests were taken at dslreports, but reflect my "real world" observations including transferring files.  I used a linksys 54GS router, a linksys54??? wireless desktop card running on a 15MB cable connection.  The connection was establish using netcfg2.
I was just curious if other people are experiencing the same type of speed slowdowns using wpa.  Before I started using netcfg, I assumed I screwed up, but the information needed for netcfg seems pretty simple and basic.
If this is typical, I might turn the access point off, and use wep when I need wireless access.

    cactus wrote:
upstream results are not the best test scenario, as they are entirely too variant.
For testing, I would connect a box to one of the ethernet ports on the linksys, and then use iperf to test between a node on the wireless to the wired node.
note: wireless is more suseptible to packet loss, so udp throughput over wireless will most likely be crappy. Make sure to test with tcp instead of udp.
It was my "real world" experience that caused me to make the speed tests and to try wep and no encryption.  The tests only confirmed what I was already seeing and was drastic enough to not be concerned about speed variations or anomalies.   WPA browsing was sluggish with d/l speeds of 1 to 1.5 MBs but both WEP and no security was responsive with good downloads including pacman upgrades.   I am usually able to close to my rated bandwidth of 15MBs using WEP with 128 bit encyrption.
The wireless card is in a desktop and would be a pain to connect with a cable.  The fact that I'm getting such good speeds with WEP indicates that the router and card are working OK.  At this point I'm just going to go with 128 bit WEP encryption and try to turn off SSID broadcasting when I'm not using the wireless computer.
I pretty much assumed it was my fault when I was using ifconfig, iwconfig and iwpriv to make the connection, but netcfg2 seems pretty easy and hard to mess up.  I'm really not that concerned about the security with WEP, but I was curious if anybody else had the same type of experiences.
    Thanks

  • Where is the Clear History button?

I have an app that is called "7-in-1 offline photo translator" and someone told me that if you press the ''clear history'' button you can clear the apps translation history. Where is that on the iPad? I dont see it! Please help me!! Is that button on iPhone only? Or is there a way to do it on iPad or ipod touch?

Yes thats right: someone told me that the "7 in 1 offline translator" has such a feature built into the app itself, they said it is a phone button in the lower left corner that you can press to clear translation history. Is there a non-iPhone equivalent to that button?

  • Trying to add PC - Do I have to change from WPA to WEP?

    Here's my set up:
    iMac
    iBook
    Tiger
    Airport Express (Main BS)
    Airport Extreme (Remote BS)
    WPA & WPA2 encryption
I've just got a laptop from work which is a PC running XP, but without Service Pack 2 as SP2 has, I'm told, all sorts of server related problems (don't ask me what these Microsoft bug ridden issues are, I just know I'm not allowed to download SP2)
When I boot up my PC it recognises my network but when I try and type in my network password I'm being tod that the "network password needs to be 40bits or 104 bits depending on you network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters"
The dialogue box that popped up before this where I was invited to enter my password told me that hte network requires a network key (WEP). But it doesn't it requires WPA.
Now I'm not at all knowledgeable about WPA, WPA2 and WEP, but should I assume that I need to change my network encryption to WEP, if so is this less secure and how exactly to I go about doing that? I've had all sorts of problems in the past when I've meddled with my netwprk security. Should I change the settings on my remote BS and then the main, or the other way round.
Seems a bit odd that the PC doesn't just ket me enter my password, but I guess that's Windozed forya!

Even though Windows says it is connected to your wireless network, you cannot take Windows word for it. Most likely the PC has indeed failed to establish an authenticated wireless connection to your wireless network. Therefore, go through the process of setting up Windows to connect to your wireless network again, but this time enter the hex-format "network equivalent password" for your Base Station that you obtained with the help of the Airport Admin Utility.
"Bonjour for Windows" isn't of any use for what you are trying to do. It is only helpful (though not essential) if you want to set up printing from the PC to a printer connected to either the Mac running 10.4 or the Airport Express.
As for the oddness with getting the Macs to connect to each other - try using the manual connection method described in this passage I've copied from elsewhere:
The first step is: on each computer, go into System Preferences, then Sharing, and turn on "Personal File Sharing". On that page, you'll see, at the top, the computer's name (which you can change), and at the bottom, the IP number (eg 10.0.1.2), which you may need as an alternative.
Then, on each computer, go to Finder, then click on Network. You may straightaway see the other computer appear - you can click on it, click "Connect", and then either log in as a user (it has to be a user that's been set up on that machine), or a guest.
As a guest, you can access all Public folders on the computer.
As a user, you can access that user's Home folder
As an admin user, you can access the whole hard drive.
So, if you have different user accounts set up on the computers, it's best to use Guest access and then put the files you're sharing in your user's Public folder.
Now, if that computer doesn't immediately appear, go to the Finder, click cmd-K (to open the Connect to Server dialogue), and type in
    afp://ip-address-of-other-computer
    eg afp://10.0.1.2
You'll then get the same login dialogue as above.

  • Satellite M30-107: WPA and WEP security software

I wish to connect my Satellite M30-107 P-M 745 to an up-to-date MIMO G+ wifi network.
I have bought a router and PCMCIA adapter card.
I wish to set-up WPA and WEP security - do I need any special Toshiba software on the PC itself to do this, or do I just use the software that came with the Router and adapter card?
    Thanks

    Hi
First of all you cannot both Wlan encryption WPA and WEP together.
You can use either WPA or WEP. I would recommend using WPA because its safer.
I agree with Barrie. If you want to use one of this encryption you should be sure that the WLan card and the router support this features.
In my knowledge most of the newer Wlan routers supports WEP and WPA. In this case you have only check the WLan card if the option is available or not.
By the way: You don't need any special software to set the encryptions.
You can set the encryptions also in the Windows own WLan configuration area.

  • I have a 4th gen ipodtouch and the screen doesnt work to touch only voice???help

i have a 4th gen ipodtouch and the screen doesnt work to touch only voice???help

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

    Hello,
can anybody tell me if its possible to use both WPA and WEP security access on the same SSID.
And can anybody point me out to some references for follow reading.
    Thanks
    Mark

According to the documentation I have been able to find it is possible. See conversation titled Reality Check ... about 10 lines down from this one. The article includes links to the docs. I cannot get it to work, however. I can get my WPA clients to connect but I lose my original WEP clients. If you find a solution please pass it on.
