Iprint & cups coexistence on OES server

Looking for a way to run an iPrint server on OES and having that OES server
use the iprint client to print to its own printers.
However there is a conflict between CUPS used by the iPrint Client and iPrint.
iPrint server will not come up unless CUPS is disabled and the iPrint
client cannot load CUPS when it is not up. (Child exited with status 98)
Tried reconfiguring CUPS to a different port (632) and IP in cupsd.conf,
but unsuccesfull so far.
Anyone had experience on this ?
What I think needs to be done is configuring either iPrint or CUPS to a
secondary IP on OES. but iPrint will not let me do that during install, and
I cant find correct info on doing anything with CUPS.
I know iFolder can be installed to a secondar IP on OES so why not iPrint ?
Let me know if you have anything :-)
Kind Regards Bjrn

I have got a 6.5 server with NDPS/iPrint running and Zenworks printing
policies to push those printers to Win XP desktops. I also have an OES SP2
SLES9 server in the same tree.
Now I am looking at some software to manage printing costs, and this one
only works with Windows or CUPS printers. So I am wondering what the
solution for me might be .. if I could somehow get our NDPS printers running
(?) through CUPS just for the purpose of accounting and maintaining print
credits for users, while still being able to use Zenworks to deliver iPring
printers and printer profiles to desktops.
I only found this http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/qna/1733.html remotely
related to the problem. CUPS and NDPS do not seem to overlap in any way do
they .. besides competing for the same port ?

  • Communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager and OES Server

No communication between the DNS/DHCP Manager Console and OES server (status, start, stop)
The screenshot shows the tab "DHCP (OES Linux)" in the DNS / DHCP Manager console
in the bottom of the image it shows the state of the DHCP servers.
    allDHCP.JPG
The dhcp service is started on all these servers
You can see that the status is known only for four servers.
The button "start/stop DHCP service" works fine on this servers and
the dhcp service can be canceled and also restarted
But the status of the "dhcp service" is not recognized for all the other DHCP servers
and so we can not start or stop dhcp service on these servers.
All servers were installed at different times (last three years) with OES11 and
are upgraded to OES11SP2 with all patches.
The server keto (DHCP_keto) is a new installation OES11SP2 few days ago.
All OES servers were set up identically from me. LDAP, LUM, DMS, DHCP works fine.
Which service on the OES server is responsible for
communication (status indicator) between the DNS/DHCP Manager and the OES serve?
How the status query is performed by the DNS/DHCP Manager?
How can I test the communication to the server on the client (console)?
Which configurationfiles I should be compare on the server?
    Thanks in advance

  • Run OES Server in Isolation

    Hi
I have a client with a tree with multiple servers in multiple OU's and
    multiple partitions.
The remote servers have the ou=common,o=company partition and
    individual ou=site_x,ou=state_X,o=company partitions
The remote servers are platespin protected.
The work when the system fail's over
They dont work properly when the systems do a test mode failover.
They fail beacuse they are in isolation.
These servers do not have the root partition or the o=company
partition, only the above 2 partitions, otherwise the subordiante
reference and partition replicas go nuts.
An admin equivalent user is configured in the ou=common,o=company
nam is configured using that user, but I cant get the systems online
LDAP and eDirectory work, but NAM doesn't
what do I need to do to get nam working and hence nss etc??

Short answer: You can't do that. It's not going to work. Stop trying to
    make it work.

Your design is what's failing. eDirectory is designed to have all servers
available, as part of their participation in a shared database. It's not
designed to have parts of it lopped off to function independently.

    Hi all,
As far as I understand, all pages served by a default Apache2 instance

  • CUP 5.3: SMTP Server

    Good day Chaps.
Is it mandatory to have a MS Exchange mailbox created and the email name maintained in the Enter Email Notification Sender in CUP > SMTP Server?
If not, how will CUP send out the CUP Request email notifications?  The AC5.3_Config_Guide does not mention anything on the topic.
    Regards,
    M Hannie

    Dear all,
I've setup the SMTP server information, and CUP is sending emails to notify approvers of pending requsts.  However I have a few issues with this screen.
SMTP Server has been entered and has saved
I had tried to put in URLs for the Application URL and the Redirection URL.  The values I had entered were not correct and so now, the link that is sent to the approvers doesn't lead them to the correct CUP screen.  This is my first issue - what is the correct information that should go into these fields?
The second problem is that if I try to delete this information, and then try to save it, I receive the following error:
Action failed. An unknown error occurred while performing the operation
Upon checking the logs, I notice the following:
    2009-11-19 13:16:21,495 [SAPEngine_Application_Thread[impl:3]_3] ERROR com.virsa.ae.configuration.actions.SMTPServerNameAction
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
From this error, I can make out that it is being generated because I tried to remove the incorrect URLs that I had entered.
Have you seen this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?
    Thanks,
    Santosh Krishnan

You're trying to install the 64-bit novell-kanaka-engine-2.8.0-8 package that you've copied to /tmp but where did you copy it from? The Kanaka CD contains two versions (for want of a better word) of that package in /sles10 and /sles11 directories but they're actually different files - for OES2 you need the one from /sles10.

  • EXCHANGE Coexistence with two server

Think this situation of disaster recovery, that i am recreating in my lab.
EXCH2013 installed on a server, member of AD, CAS+MB.
That server goes down, and can't work anymore.
I reinstall, on other server in the same AD, CAS+MB. I have copy of db, for example in local pst or other kind, no matter now.
When i access to ECP new  server i will be able to manage users, i will find the users mailboxes activated in other server (and not working) but i will have the chance to "recover" situation creating new users or assigning user's mailboxes
    on new server.
    Is this right?
Why OWA, ECP, on new server DON'T permit to log (old server DOWN)? I can see the page, put the credential but then error 500...how think that IIS service want to find the MB on server down, it can't find and goes error.
    Any suggest?

I would do /RecoverServer first which will recover the server. And if I have the EDB file then I will mount that data. Or if I have Backup, I will restore the Backup.
Note: Make sure all the exchange services are running after /RecoverServer is successful
Does it works with new Mailbox?

  • OS X 10.5 client and NON-OS X CUPS server: adding printers, solved

    Dear all,
I had trouble in adding printers under OS X 10.5, those printers are shared via a FreeBSD CUPS 1.2.10 server on the local network.
    So I did the following:
    - System Preferences;
    - Print & Fax, right click on the leftmost part of the window, then "Reset printing system";
    - Open Terminal;
    - As admin via sudo or root edit the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and modify the first lines so they look like:
    Browsing On
    BrowseOrder allow,deny
    BrowseAllow all
    BrowseProtocols all
    BrowseRemoteProtocols all
    BrowsePoll hostnameof_your_cupsserver:631
    BrowsePort 631
    - Save the file;
    - Restart the client;
    - Now you should be able to see/add the printers.
This is a quick and dirty fix, hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Alessandro

    Hi John,
my apologies for having misinterpreted your post. I think that Apple engineers really did a big mistake by omitting the keyword BrowseProtocol="all" in the print engine setup (cupsd.conf), since that keyword basically allows the cups-polld daemon, that is the piece of the local printing engine of OS X that can "ask" the LAN for the presence of printers, to ask for printers shared via CUPS/LDAP/SLP and so on.
I hope that this will be soon fixed in a minor release, since quite a lot of people (especially in the educational/research environments) heavily relies on a centralized CUPS server to manage tens or hundreds of printers (we do have 40+ printers, exported to more 400+ clients, both OS X and Windows).
BTW, this morning I was asking a little joke to my colleagues I said to them "300+ new features, an old one missing.. try to guess which one"
    All the best,
    Alessandro

  • Novell-iprint-server patch-11778

    Hi.
I just installed patch-11778 via rug on a clustered node for the iprint
server and now I can not even start ipsmd on that node, iprint stops
with "FATAL Error (506D000C) occurred while initializing the Managed
Object database". Luckily I have not upgraded the other node in the
cluster so I can still start the iprint server there.
I searched everywhere on novell.com about this patch but could not even
find any confirmation that the patch exists. The patch info in rug
claimed to resolve the issues we have (needing to restart iprint every
    couple of hours/days).
    Anyone know anything more?
    /anders

I have just encountered the problem with the same results. Fortunately,
Novell came out with a patch that I installed via Linux Patch Manager.
The iPrint patch is Open Enterprise Server Patch 11856, released
10/16/07, and it resolved my Print Manager's inability to start.
    Good Luck with yours.
    Glen

  • Oracle Entitlement Server(OES) Security Module

    Hi,
I am a newbie in OES domain. I have installed OES Server 11.1.1.2 to protect an application.
What I am confused about is how to decide which Security Module(SM) to use for configuration post client installation?
    Kindly provide your inputs.

Just an FYI for you, this product does not get much focus in the forum here.  OES was added to the OIM product with 11GR2 version to handle some of the security for it in the last few years, but there is minimal use of it beyond installation.  Most individuals who have worked with it have done nothing beyond just logging in to the apm console and seeing that it's there or adding a permission for a new task flow.  It only requires checking a box during the domain configuration to include.  Your best bet might be asking oracle in an SR if you have an existing client CSI you are working with.

  • IPrint migration oes11 to oes11sp2

This summer I have to replace server hardware -- current one is sles11sp1/oes11. I will install sles11sp3/oes11sp2 this summer on a new temp server for the migration and id transfer. Reading up on the migration tool. Wondering if there is anything I need to be aware of in migrating the iPrint environment. The printers are not setup in dns (as we don't use Novell for our DNS server).
    Thanks

Well, if you're going on new hardware, you MAY be able to get away with a few things.
Choices (off the top of my head):
    1) Use the Consolidation part of the miggui. Downsides to that are that you have to create new driver store/manager and if you're not using DNS, then you'll have some interesting issues (ie, possibly reinstalling on all your pc's). But just because you don't have Novell as your DNS server doesn't mean you can't use DNS names for iPrint. We use Sun Solaris for DNS and we just have our Unix guys adjust/add the DNS entries as necessary and it works fine.
    2) IF you're going to use the ID Transfer so that the new server is going to have the same name/IP, then you can probably do this (I only know this because we just had a server blow up):
    https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3006957
    We chose option #1, BUT:
    Instead of restoring/copying just the:
    /var/opt/novell/iprint/[PSM].[OU].[O].psm/
    We did the:
    /var/opt/novell/iprint
directory as that also gets the printer driver profiles and driverstore
IF you choose the above option, I'd suggest that when you install your NEW OES server do NOT configure iPrint (install yes, don't configure it). Then after the ID transfer, copy/restore the configuration files and I THINK you'll be good to go.
    3) some other option I'm not aware of.

  • IPrint OES11 to 1.1 Appliance

I've migrated all the printers from our current OES11 SP2 iPrint server to the appliance a few weeks ago, but wasn't ready to switch to it yet. I'm trying finish the migration before Monday (spring break here). The OES server is still taking all the iPrint traffic. Here's what's under print manager identification:
    DS name:
    PrintMngr.iPrint.lmisd
    Version:
    3.0.2
    Database path:
    /var/opt/novell/iprint/PrintMngr.iPrint.lmisd.psm
    Driver Store:
    PrintDrivers.iPrint.lmisd
    Network address:
    DNS: pslmisd.lmisd.net
    IP: 168.X.X.X
"DS name" and "Driver Store" are pointing to the new appliance, while "Network address" is the current production OES11 iPrint server.
Do I use the miggui and "transfer ID" to finish? I'm unclear how to finalize the migration from here. Yes, DNS entries have been made for the appliance.
    Thank you.

What I did was to migrate all the printers from OES to the appliance ( http://www.novell.com/documentation/....html#b15nrce9 ), then enabled PA redirect and redirected all the printers from the OES server to the new iPrint appliance ( https://www.novell.com/documentation...c.html#b6kizcp ).
It didn't go as smooth as I hoped it would but with the help on ZENworks Printer policys we minimized manually reinstalling some of the printers that failed to successfully redirect.
I would recommend test installing all the printers you migrated to the appliance to see that they install, printer profiles for some models (mainly Canon) failed to get migrated even if the migration wizard finished without errors.
