IPS 5.0 Device Manager

Has anyone had any issues with the new IPS 5.0 Device Manager. On the majority of my IPS Sensors, after the initial login and launch of the application, it just hangs at the 77% point of the parsing configuation stage.
Anyone had similar issues?

We saw this all of the time in testing when the JRE was not configured with the extra memory.
We also saw this when the JRE memory was changed, but there was still a JRE running on the machine.
All JREs have to be stopped in order for the new setting to take affect.
So be sure to close all explorer and other web browsers after editing the JRE settings. Or better yet reboot your PC to ensure all JREs are stopped so the new settings will take affect.
You might also see this issue if you try running multiple IDMs. Connecting to the same sensor, or even connecting to multiple sensors. Each IDM instance will need 256 Meg of memory.
I used to see it when I used the same IE window to start different IDMs on the same or another sensor.
Once IDM starts be sure to close the original window where the connection was made. You will see this wording in the window: "Close this window and open a new browser window to continue web browsing" This includes even connecting back to the same sensor to start IDM again. Close that window and open a brand new window if you need to start IDM again.
To do some further debugging you might also consider configuring your JRE to open the console.
Go to Control Panel.
Double Click Java Plug-in
On the Basic Tab click "Show Console"
Click Apply
Now connect to the sensor.
A Java Console window should popup.
Keep an eye out for any errors (like out of memory for example).
You will see some debug messages every now and then, but any errors could give a clue as to what is going wrong.
You can also execute "m" in the Java console to print the current memory statistics.
You will be able to see how much memory the JRE is allocating and how much is free. NOTE: When the percent Free starts getting Low then it will allocate additional memory up until the full 256 MB is allocated.
If the free memory ever drops to 0% with the full 256 MB allocated, then you've come across an issue. Close down the IDM and the browser you started it from. Then open a brand new browser window and connect back to the sensor. Execute "m" in the console window and ensure that the total memory is fairly low when IDM initially begins to open, otherwise another JRE instance may be using up the memory.
If your PC itself is low on memory then it is also possible that there is no memory left on the PC for Java to allocate.
NOTE: If you don't want the console window to always popup you can leave it Hidden by default and instead just Right Click the Java Icon in your System Tray and select Open Console when you want to look at the Java console.

  • "Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer" when local

    Hello - since configuring a Windows Web Server 2008 R2 x64 to be hardened for an internet-facing deployment I receive this:
    "Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer."
    when entering Device Manager.
    I have tried reversing the changes I have made, such as:
    - Re-adding Client for Microsoft Networks
    - Re-enabling NetBIOS over TCP-IP
    - Re-adding File and Printer Sharing
    - Disabling the Windows Firewall in all profiles (public, domain, private)
    I get no joy. It looks like a Microsoft ballsup. I'll try and use Process Monitor to have a look. Google returns only 1 page for this error.
    Luke

    Got it.
    After my changes to DHCP and static IPs the machine picked up the IP address of another server on my little home LAN. The hostname in IPCONFIG was different to the actual server computer name and so this led Device Manager to think the connection and the
    local machine were different.
    What an odd and infuriating problem. My thoughts on this are that Microsoft should be more verbose with error messages and their causes. For example, displaying the values of the assertion would help diagnose a problem; "The host-name www02.farm.brand.com
    that you are connecting from does not match the local host-name rest01.dev.farm.brand.com. Connections from remote computers can only use Device Manager in read-only mode; some options will be disabled."
    When troubleshooting, the main thing on an engineer's mind is "what has led Windows to its [unexpected] conclusion?"

  • 2 exclamations in device manager.

    I have 2 xclamations in device manager and system update is unable to find the drivers for it. Even windows update could not find them. but I dont have any issues with my laptop though. Just one problem CAPS lock doesnt glow but its functioning well. Please suggest if any ideas if it drivers issue.

    Actually the last time I checked the Ricoh drivers won't install on windows Seven, you need to extract the drivers, then go to device manager and update each device that is unrecognized manually by directing it to where you extracted the drivers.
    If you're using 64bit windows, then one of the devices needs to be pointed towards one of the sub-folders that has "64" iin it's name. You'll know which one when it cannot fint the proper driver and there are two folders that have "64" in the name. I forget which you need, but it's easy enough to figure out, one works, the other doesn't.

  • Ipod 5th Generation 80 GB / Device Manager / Driver not Installed / Code 28

    Well, where do I begin! Got my 1st Ipod 2 days ago & still unable to use it! I have installed & uninstalled the itunes 7 software numerous times. On phone w/ Apple for 1 hour...followed by online chat help w/ Dell.
    I've tryed 4 different USB ports on my computer. The device Manager shows the Ipod w/ a ? and a ! in yellow. The add new hardware tells me, "Drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28." My computer reconizes that the ipod is plugged in, but will not do anything. There is no communication between the 2. Keeps telling me to insert cd for software for ipod.
    Help! Does seem that other people are having similar issues. I think a software cd should of been provided w/ the ipod....not sure if that would of corrected my problem.

    Hi,
    Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run. the Run dialog appears,
    Type %temp%, then click OK.
    locate and enter into the HP Installation temporary folder, start with the 7Z characters.
    If you can see several folders starting with 7Z, locate the latest one.
    Click the Address bar area, then the full address path will appear,
    Copy the full path location by clicking CTRL + P while the path is selected.
    Enter the Device Manager.
    Right click the printer name with the error mark, then click Update Driver.
    Select the second option to manually locate the driver.
    Paste the temporary folder path and click Next (Keep Include Sub Fulders marked), the driver should be updated.

  • IPod is not recognized by Windows, iTunes or Device Manager

    I'm running Windows XP with external hard drive. When hard drive is connected, iPod will not sync and I get message stating "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices had malfunctioned..."
    When disconnect, iPod will sync. However, iTunes is on external drive; therefore musc is not syncing onto iPod. I've attempted the 5 R's as well as searching for iPod in Device Mananger. When iPod is conncected, it is listed in Devce Manage as "Unknown Device." Articles to solve recommend relettering device, bu how do I get it to be recognized by Device Manager?

    I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO THAT I JUST BOUGHT MY 30GB IPOD VIDEO ABOUT 4 HOURS AGO, SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN REALLY STRUGGLING TO INSTALL IT. A SOON AS I GOT IT, I DID EXACTLY WHAT IT SAID, I WENT TO WWW.APPLE.COM/IPOD/START AND DOWNLOADED THE NEWEST ITUNES VERSION. THEN I PLUGGED IN MY IPOD TO MY COMPUTER, AND ALL THAT HAPPENS IS A LITTLE BUBBLE OPENS UP AND SAYS "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" WHEN I CLICK THAT, IT OPENS UP, AND I CLICK "INSTALL THE SOFTWARE AUTOMATICALLY" WHERE IT SAYS IT, THEN I CLICK NEXT AND WAIT. AFTER, IT SAYS "THE HARDWARE WAS NOT INSTALLED BECAUSE THE WIZARD CANNOT FIND THE NECESARRY SOFTWARE".AFTER I WENT TO WWW.APPLE.COM TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, I'VE LOOKED THROUGH AND READ EVERY ARTICLE THAT CAN PERTAIN TO MY SITUTAION, BUT NONE HAVE HELPED ME I AM DISPLEASED TO SAY, THE LAST ARTICLE I READ WAS THIS ONE:

If no such entries are present, the iPod is most likely represented by "USB Mass Storage Device." I LOOK FOR WHERE IT SAYS "IPOD" OR "USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE" UNDER "UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS, AND CANNOT FIND EITHER THING..I HAVE RESTARTED MY COMPUTER A NUMBER OF TIMES, I HAVE EVEN UNISTALLED ITUNES THEN REINSTALLED IT I HAVE STRETCHED EVERY OPTION AND NOTHING HAS WORKED..CAN SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME??..I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM FOR 4 HOURS STRAIGHT STOPPING ONLY TO GO TO THE BATHROOM AND GRAB A BITE TO EAT..

  • [solved] Digital Camera not recognized in device-manager

    My digital camera "Canon Powershot SX120 is" is not recognized by the devicemanager. I have read Digital Cameras.
    $ groups
    wheel storage users printadmin
    The "camera"-Group isn't needed anymore and this group doesn't exist on my system.
    The Powershot SX 120 has a  MTP/PTP connection mode (as the manual says). But:
    # mtp-detect
    Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6
    Listing raw device(s)
    No raw devices found.
    gphoto succeed:
    $ gphoto2 --auto-detect
    Modell Port
    Canon PowerShot SX120 IS usb:002,019
    A gphoto --summary could be found here
    There is no udev-rule for this camera. If i create one while copying a rule from a similar camera from /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules, and store it into /etc/udev/rules.d/69-canon.rules, the device-manager shows up. My udev-rule:
    # Canon PowerShot SX120AX (PTP/MTP mode)
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="31e0", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1"
    The device-manager shows me only the option to open with a file-manager. Doing so will result in an error:
    The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/ do not exist.
    With my udev-rule:
    solid-hardware listen
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceAdded(QDBusObjectPath)
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceRemoved(QDBusObjectPath)
    Listening to add/remove events:
    Device Added:
    udi = '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
    Without the active udev-rule, "solid-hardware listen" produces nothing, but
    udevadm monitor
    monitor will print the received events for:
    UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
    KERNEL - the kernel uevent
    KERNEL[5077.662572] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8 (usb)
    KERNEL[5077.662655] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/2-8:1.0 (usb)

    UDEV [5077.693035] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/2-8:1.0 (usb)
    Don't know what to do ... is a udev-rule necessary to bring up the message from device-manger? Or is the Camera not recognized as a mtp-device (the Camera has no such settings)? How could i figure it out?
    With Digikam i could import Fotos, but i would do so with gwenview. I've tried to check it out with gwenview_importer:
    $ gwenview_importer --udi '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
    QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
    gwenview_importer: Missing required source folder argument.
      (don't care about the different udi, i took this example from a former try) but i don't know, how to find out where the "source folder" is ...

    I have solved this by making an extra udev-rule for my camera. See my adventure on forum.kde.org for details

  • Just boot camped mid-2012 MBP using Apple's BootCamp 5.1.5621. However, no wireless adapter is listed in device manager

    [In Windows 8.1] When I access the Device Manager, it does not list my wireless adapter as one of the devices available. I have attempted to manually install the drivers from the BootCamp 5.1.5621 file.
    I've spent several hours attempting to remedy this but have only found threads explaining how to solve the problem if the 802 adapter is already listed in the device manager.

    I recently had some BT issue's in Win8 so I wrote a topic about this subject. Maybe you need to replace the Broadcom drivers as well.

  • Unable to open 2 9509 switches at the same time in Cisco Device Manager

    Dear Friends,
    There are a pair of MDS 9509 switches whose management addresses are 172.16.2.197 and 172.16.2.198.
    When we try to manage these Devices through Cisco device manager, the first device opens up without any problem, but when the second 9509 is opened in Cisco Device Manager, it fails giving the following error message:
    "Open udp transport failed: Address already in use: Cannot bind"
    To get around this issue, if we close the first interface to the 9509 switch, then we are able to open up the second 9509 in Device Manager.
    We have this problem only in Cisco device manager. If we open one switch in Cisco device manager and the other switch in Cisco Fabric Manager, it works.
    Also, we can telnet to both the devices successfully at a time.
    The device manager in use is 4.1.
    Please find enclosed the sh version outputs for your kind reference.
    Can you please help me understand the cause of this issue?
    Thanks a lot
    Gautam

    Is it always the same MDS that fails to open, or can you open either one first, and then the second one poses the problem (no matter which one is second)?
    Can you try from a second work station and see if you can open DM to both switched at the same time? I suspect the address it is complaining about is the local workstation IP, not the MDS IP.
    If you open the FM map, then you click on the MDS ICONs, can you open DM to both MDS?

  • Questions on mobile device management

    Hi All,
    I'm not sure where to post this question since I couldn't find a forum specific to Afaria, so thought someone here might be able to help.
    1. Afaria mobile device management solution claims that data and content is backed up and can be deleted if a device is stolen or lost. Can this deletion be done if the mobile is switched off of the SIM card has been removed? What is the mechanism of the data deletion process when the device is either ON/OFF?
    2. How does Afaria handle online and offline user authentication? If a mobile app is opened, can Afaria be configured to force the user to enter credentials for authentication? Or should there be a separate login page as a part of the mobile app? (The user's credentials are needed to find his role from LDAP and the rest of the app to work properly, which is y the question).
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vaishnavi

    This forum is fine for Afaria discussions and questions, no worries.
    1.  If mobile device is switched off or not network connected then Afaria is not able to do anything with that device.  The content though would be secured, encrypted etc. so that there should be no risk as long as the device is switched off.  The "kill device" command that can be sent from Afaria will work if device is turned on and connected to a network.
    2.  Afaria can force quite a lot of things and one of them is regarding the device itself, forcing a password/pin type of unlocking.  The mobile app normally has it's own mechanism for authentication, user name and password.  That is a SUP function and has little to do with Afaria, I don't believe Afaria can force that part of authentication.
    You can get a good overview of the technical part of Afaria here:  [Afaria Technical White paper|http://www.sybase.com/files/White_Papers/Afaria-Technical-WP.pdf]
