Ironport C150 Mystery Shutdown

Hi,
Our C150 running 6.4.0-273 switched off on its own today, and we have no idea why. When we switched it back on again, it worked fine and so far no problems. It's been running perfectly normal for a long time (many months) and we've never had this problem before.
Is there a logfile we can check somewhere that could indicate the cause of the shutdown?
Thanks.

Might this be caused by an incidenticaly pressing of the power button on the appliance?
Customer support said that:
After looking through your support request and looking through the system via remote access, the only thing we found was a process that locked up and caused the reboot. This should not happen often at all. Please keep an eye on the system and let us know if it reboots unexpectedly again.
I emailed them back saying that whatever did it caused a shutdown and not a reboot, and asking if that is normal.

  • Ironport c150 and c170

    Hello All,
i have IronPort c150. I wanted to load configuration from C150 to C170 but it shows me an error
The reason i guess is from different AsyncOs versions:
    C150 - 7.6.3; C170 - 8.0.1.
When i check for upgrade on C150 there is none.
My question is can i downgrade C170 or upgrade C150 so versions to match? Or maybe some other workaround to load the configuration. It is too complicated to do configuration manually.

    Vasil -
The appliance must have matching AsyncOS revisions in order to migrate the C150 to the C170.
If your C170 is already running 8.0.1 - you can run 'revert' to get it back to the previous OS revision.  The C150 is EOL, and is not elgible for 8.x.  So - you'll need to get matching 7.6.3 revisions, most likely.
But - both have to be running similar ---> C150/7.6.3-019 vs. C170/7.6.3-019
If you need full/further assistance - please open a support/TAC case - and we'll be able to advise the full paths, best practices.
    Hope this helps!

It looks like the system is corrupted. How i can start Ironport for "factory settings"... as same that it was when i bougt it.
    Thanks for help

Had a few customers that have had this same problem. Something to do with the database/config getting corrupted because the unit was power cycled before the update was complete.
The way we fixed it was to get Ironport engineers to log in via a tunnel and revert the system to the previous image.
System came back up; got the customer to upgrade the unit via the CLI so they could check the status of the upgrade and give it plenty of time to reboot and come back up.

  • IronPort C150, unable to connect

Does anyone have any experience with IronPort? I am unable to connect to it via Ethernet or by serial.
Is there a way to set it to factory default?

Is it a new device? You should be able to connect via the Data 1 Ethernet port on the 192.168.42.42 address.

  • Mysterious shutdowns on Lenovo 3000 N100

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop around two years old. Half a year ago its battery when dead, and I've been running on AC power since. However, that doesn't seem to be enough anymore.
The computer has begun to shut down randomly for no apparent reason - sometimes during boot, sometimes after a couple of minutes, sometimes after several hours or more.
I'm using Ubuntu as my operating system after Windows went haywire, and haven't experienced any trouble with it so far.
    Ideas, anybody?

    Exactly same here...............solution?
I run lenovo n100 on ac power. If battery is inserted it is detected but shows not charging on windows 7.
After few minutes the laptop switches off without any indication within a second. And then if I switch on again with/without battery same thing repeats. To over come that I hav to Restore the system in Safe mode.
So we can conclude there is no Hardware problem.

  • Mysterious Shutdowns.

For the second time, my Imac shut down out of nowhere. It happened last night, and again today. The shut downs were abrupt and a little startling. Both times I was doing stuff I normally do. Running a few applications and listening to itunes. I have no clue as to why this is happening, and when I used the search to look for evidence of kernel panic, I found none.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm in the process of backing up my info because I'm afraid that the next time could be the last! I felt around the dome and while it is warm from use, the fan does run and it's not scorching. The monitor seems to be average in temperature, but a little warm on the right side. Other than that, everything appears normal.

Thank you so much! As it turns out, it was a weird problem with the power strip I was using. For some reason, there was a short and that's why it was just zonking out.
    But thanks bunches!

  • Mysterious Shutdown During Overnight Render

    Hello all,
My Mac Pro (Running 10.5.8) eventually shuts down when I set my energy saver like this: the display is set to sleep within 1 minute and the computer is set to "never" sleep.  I do this whenever I render out a big file.  (Cinema 4D12 is what I was running overnight when it happened last)  Fortunately the next morning my render had already completed successfully, but I had to hit the power button on the tower once to boot up again.  When I logged in, there was no evidence of a crash (i.e. error messages)
Obviously sometime after the render was complete, the system decided it was time to shut down.  Has anyone else seen this before?  If I do a long render overnight, is there a better way I should be setting up my system or prefs?
As always, any help is appreciated - Thank you!

    Use SmcFanControl 2.2.x www.macupdate.com
the defaults are too low and system gets hot first, then the fans have to work to try to catch up to expell heat, which is very inefficient.
they are designed for running quiet.
Common to have defaults (499 and 599 rpm, very very low) which is what the SMC and OS run the fans at.
To keep FBDIMMs etc cool, and still quiet, 800-900 rpm
And if you know you will be cranking it out for any reason, switch to a higher profile like 1200 or even 1500 rpm.
Been doing so for 5 yrs, RAM will perform and last longer without added stress of heat, and it is heating up / cooling down cycles that stress, wear and cause fatigue and issues. Same for disk drives.
Nehalem / Westmere processors can jump 10-20*C in 1/10th of a second just from asking them to do anything, and they can run up to 80*C. More than 80 is not a good stable running temp but that is where and what people do to test their system's abilty and over-clocking skills. 65-75*C for cpu is perfectly fine, while anything under 45*C for idle or low workload.
Hardware Monitor would be my #1 thermal and system monitoring
    iStatPro is popular
Temperature Monitor is free version of HM above and lacks abilty to alert and such if you set an alarm for a sensor reading threshold.
Don't over do background monitoring. Less is better and they do interfere. A perfect workstation runs as little non-essentials.
An audio bug in 2009 chipset Mac Pro was serious issue. It was patched by the OS, fixed in the next editions, but was never 'back fixed" to 10.5.8, so any user that wanted the fix had to upgrade to 10.6.  not all apps were SL compliant. 2010 model is the result of all the learning and hard knocks I guess.
There are always bugs. Some known. Some waiting to be found. Some so rare they just hide.
If you know you will be rendering, it is also quite possible to have a special configured boot OS optimized just for that, rather than "general purpose" setup. Lean, mean, stable.
Start with a clone. Or start with a clean install. Test your setups.
Some people have extra drive sleds for such, they cost around $25 for those metal trays.
That is how I would go at it.

  • Mysterious shutdown f700

My Compaq F700 died so I installed a new motherboard (not used, brand new). I used the original 2.0GHz AMD processor, but I am having two problems. 1) When I turn the laptop on, it asks me to remove my wireless card because it is not supported. It's the stock card. 2) It only stays on for 10 minutes then shuts down. It doesn't appear to be running hot. When I installed the new motherboard I also installed copper shims on the CPU and GPU and I'm using a cooling pad under the laptop. The internal fan is also functioning properly. The second problem is my biggest concern. This laptop should be running fine but I can't even install the OS because it shuts down.

I'd suggest nuking the KN preference plist file and see if that works. If not, I would uninstall KN (and its preferences) and reinstall.

  • IronPort Clustering questions

    Hello all,
I have some questions about clustering in Ironport:
Actually I have one IronPort C150 in "Standalone mode" with an ip adress who takes the mail flow (192.168.1.34)
We received a second Ironport for setup a cluster configuration between them.
    My question are :
    1) What happen for the mail flow if the first IronPort ( 192.168.1.34) move to a cluster configuration ?
I have to configure a virtual address to be same of the original ip adress mail flow (192.168.1.34) or the cluster takes the original configuration of the first IronPort ?
    2) If one Ironport Fail, the second IronPort automatically takes the mail? or i have to reconfigure manually the ip address ?
    Thanks for your help.
    PS: Sorry for my english

I agree with your thoughts on MX records. The biggest benefit to using a load balancer is with the management. Once you start getting a large number of hosts in an MX record you start running into problems with senders correctly resolving your MX records due to inproper DNS configuration on the internet (UDP vs TCP). Standing up a large number of hosts behind some load balancers is one potential solution. This of course comes with its own set of challenges.
I'm still using MX records, but at some point will need to look at having multiple machines behind each host in my MX records to cut down on the size of the returned record.
I just wish I could get all of my application developers to write their apps to understand MX records. Load balancers have worked well for my outbound environment where most applications are pointing at a host name instead of an MX record.

  • Bulk Emails shown as Clear messages in C150

    Hello ,
we have IronPort C150 with 7.5.1-028 OS..
I have observed that from one particular user within 3 hours time period  around 4000 emails has been sent and all messages are shown as clear messages in repoting tool.  so, we are not able to review any message body for those emails.
why do Iron Port not dectected as spam messages??
    Can any one explain same??
    Thanks

You may like to try using a well known, stand-alone, email application PegasusMail that has been available for many years.   I don't know which applaiction you are using but PMail can be run quite independently.    I have used it since 1995.   See < http://www.pmail.com/
It has a distriburion list facility and having looked at the help file (as below) will accept thousands of addresses

System-wide lists   Pegasus Mail allows you to create distribution lists that are visible to all your users. It normally does this by creating the list file in the same directory as WINPM-32.EXE, but you can also specify alternative locations for system-wide files using Windows environment variables: for distribution lists, youwould create a Windows environment variable called PML, whose parameter is the path to the publicly-accessible directory where the list files should be stored. Note that you can create a personal distribution list then make it system-wide later on simplychecking the System-wide (visible to all users) control in the list's settings dialog. Similarly, you can convert a system-wide list into a personal list at any time by unchecking this control.
To add addresses to your distribution list click in the address list area and either type in the addresses or select them from address books or the local user list. Make sure that you have only one address per line in the list. Any valid address  can be entered in the list, including addressbook aliases.
The Pegasus Mail distribution list manager can handle many thousands of addresses.

Chrom shuts down suddenly and when I re open, the restore banner shows and then disappears
within Chrom, the recently closed tabs in HISTORY does not show the tabs that were up when the mysterious shutdowns occur.

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the problems still occur?

  • CS3 stopped working on two imac's

Hi I really need an Adobe CS3 expert and a Mac expert's help. I have been troubleshooting two days without luck. I have been in the forum trying to solve the mystery shutdown of my CS3 software. I have an imac 2006 with Snow leopard 10.6.8.
    details:
           Model Identifier:          iMac8,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
           Processor Speed:          2.8 GHz
           Number Of Processors:          1
           Total Number Of Cores:          2
           L2 Cache:          6 MB
           Memory:          2 GB
           Bus Speed:          1.07 GHz
My daughters also have an imac (newer like 2010) and since I have two educational edition's of Adobe CS3 One is WEB the other is Design Premium. At one time I had both installed on mine, then put Design Standard on my girls computer to let my artistic 17 year ols use Photosshop for school.
Everything has been working great untill two days ago, while in Photoshop on my computer, no error message has been seen.
It  stopped working, the cursor became a pin head, and all options grayed and must force quit to close. Dreamweaver, Illustrator and InDesign are also no longer responding, all options grayed, and no when you open any of these a blank box pops up titled  Adobe Creavtive Suite 3 Web Premium that only has a yellow reduce function on it, or on my kids mac the box says Design STD.
First I installed istat pro, thinking its a memory thing. (and it still might be, but I dont fully know what to do. istat pro said I have 195 GB left, so I made room - After uninstalling the CS3 I had about 203GB on my hard drive before I reinstalled. )
I tried to reinstall, also uninstall and reinstalled. Repeated uninstall/ reinstall with cc cleaning, re booting after each step.
I called Adobe thinking they cut me off, since ironically both computers are doing the same thing! They said they wouldnt do that. I never registered my products but have both products theS#. The person who I spoke to entered in my S3's yesterday. She said reinstalling should work.
When I reinstall I am not asked for Serial numbers.
Last night I uninstalled, cleaned, and then restored software from Monday. Same thing is happening. AGH!
If was was making a living using these software products I would sign up to use the new CC. but because I am in the learning stage, I just want my CS3 back.
Looking for a saving grace. Thanks for your help!

    Thank you SO much!
(and last night the Adobe support took my Serial numbers, so I hope that can't bite me in the butt somehow).
The thread you directed me to still worked and you have made my day.
    So very grateful!
    HappyThanksgiving to you!

  • Have problem with update AsyncOS

    We have proxy ISA 2006

    ISA proxy authenticated users
but when i fill field parametrs user and password
our proxy logs showed not authorize /// user:anonymouse connect to update server.
Im reading about password policy not supprted symbol"#"
    help me pls ...

    Hello,
I'm not sure what you meant with
password policy not supprted symbol"#" "
is there a # char in your PW or do you mean something else?
    A few tips:
    1) Did you try to enter your username just plain or in the domainname\userID style? The latter should normally work.
    2) Try to use a userID and PW that only exists of "normal" chars (a-z/A-Z/0-9). If you Windows password policy do not allow those simple passwords, get in contact with your NT Adminteam and ask if you can get an exception for a short while. Within that short period you can use a "simple" PW and verify if the complex chars in your PW are the problem or not. (If these chars appear to be the problem, please raise a support case to find out what chars are accepted).
    3) make sure you use the correct TCP port for connecting to your proxy
    4) make sure the proxy does allow large (enough) files. The Ironport updates can be quite large; some AV scanning add-on products might block this.
    5) Ask you proxy admin to check his log files. Maybe some useful info can be found there.
    Hope this helps!

  • IMac shuts down intermittently

I know this is already a topic but I'm posting it because (a) nobody seems to know why it's happening, (b) the suggested causes, such as overheating, not using heat paste etc do not apply in my case and (c) the mysterious shutdowns are happening at the same time as another problem, which is that my WD Thunderbolt Duo drive keeps disappearing from the desktop and I can't help wondering whether there's a connection somewhere there, or in fact a lack of connection.
My iMac is a month old, as is the thunderbolt cable and the thunderbolt drive. The thunderbelt drive is my Time Machine drive and I keep getting messages to tell me it can't be backed up. At the moment there's no sign of it on the desktop and time machine tells me that the back up is delayed, but when I look at the "About this Mac" and select thunderbolt it tells me the drive is connected and gives me its details. What's happening? Can there be loose connections that are affecting the power supply and the thunderbolt socket?

Have you called AppleCare, using your free 90-day support? They maybe best placed to help solve the problem and you should not be having to troubleshoot anything. That said, it is possible that there may be some incompatible software causing the problems.
When the machine shuts down is it a kernel panic - screen goes dark and you are presented with a multi-language box telling you to restart. If so, post the panic log on here and someone may have some ideas:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2546
You could also run the free EtreCheck and post the contents of its report on here. I'm not an expert at spotting possible causes of problems, but there are plenty here who are:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Separately, although I haven't followed the info closely, there have been many reports about problems with WD drives and Mavericks. A bit of searching on here and Google may throw up more info.
