IRS Form 941 un-fillable line using Preview

There is one line item on the January 2007 version of the fill-in IRS Form 941 that I cannot select and fill-in information using Preview 3.0.8 (409): "Name (not your trade name)". With every other item on the form, I can tab or mouse into, but not this one. Is this a known bug affecting more than me? Is there a fix?

Thanks for pointing out the issue with this form. I checked it out in Reader 8 and in Acrobat 8 and it worked fine (just like you said). I also opened it in Preview and it had the same problem as you mentioned. I opened the file in Acrobat and looked at the properties of the field, and could not find a reason for it.
I did all this because I work at the IRS in the Forms area - specializing in fillable PDFs - and we take any problem with our forms seriously. You can let us know about problems with our forms by using the "Contact Us" part of the www.irs.gov website. If you leave your email, they will reply back to you.
I will pull the form apart and see if there is anything under the covers that might be causing this, but at first glance, I could not find anything.
We do not recommend using Preview when interacting with IRS forms though. You get more consistent results with Adobe Acrobat or Reader. And the form is saveable using Reader.
I will let you know what I find out.

  • 2011 New Form 941 Table entries missing

    Greetings,
    We have implemented note 1568184 but the new functionality appears in the existing 941 form.  The note says:  new forms are being released in the standard system - "The Form 941 Federal and Form 941-PR PDF layouts are being released in this Note, by means of the new forms HR_F_941_11 and HR_F941PR_11 respectively (available for release SAP ERP 6.0 and above).  We are on 6.04 and the new entries are not in the tables V_T5UX7 or V_T51T5 as indicated in the note.
    Has anyone else had this problem?  Or have input as to why the new forms are not listed in the tables as specified after applying the SYST and ZIP files?
    Thank you for your assistance.

    Great article. Thanks for the info, you made it easy to understand. BTW, if anyone needs to fill out IRS Form 941, I found a blank form here Fillable Online Form 941 (Rev. January 2014) Fax Email Print - PDFfiller. This site also has some tutorials on how to fill it out and a few related forms that you might find useful.

  • I used Preview to fill in a .pdf form. I saved it, re-opened and saw my annotations. When I attached it to an email, the annotation and filled-in materials were no there. What's happening?

    Having been gently chided by "How to write a good question," I offer additional information as a preamble to my question.
    I am writing about Preview 7.0 (826.4) on Mavericks 10.9.4; my computer is a MacBook Pro, late 2011 model with not modifications.
    I used Preview to fill in a .pdf form and saved it. To check, I re-opened the form and saw all the info I had filled in. However, when I attached it to an email, the info was not there; the form contained none of the info I had added. I re-did the form several times, but the results were the same when I attached it to email. What's going on?
    Here's a secondary matter. When I filled in the form, the print was red and the type too large. Though I went into fonts, etc. and selected a type size and color black, the info I added was still red and the wrong size. Again, how do I manage color, size, and font?

    Form document will automatically be saved after closing the file. As far as cloud message is concerned, it seems your Mobile link setting has been turned on. When you pressed device back button after filling the form, it was saved to your Acrobat.com account. You can access this document by going to Acrobat.com tab present in left pane. Its a cloud storage area where you can upload/save any document.

  • PDF saving in Preview with IRS forms ruins PDF

    I am trying to save my tax form after filling it out in preview and when you "save as" the entire pdf shifts to the top right margin cutting off the edge. It prints correct and if you print - save as pdf it is also correct. However, print -save as pdf destroys the editable fields.

    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Phew, I'm glad to find out that it isn't my Preview. I am trying to do the exact thing, and got the same issue. But I'm glad to hear that it prints correctly at least, although I haven't tried it myself. It's VERY annoying why the pdf shifts like that.
    Regarding why the editable fields are destroyed, I'm almost certain that it's just how Preview is. I'm quote-ing the help from Preview Help. Topic is "Filling out PDF forms."
    "... However, after you save the document, you can no longer edit any of its fields. Before filling out a form, you may want to create a copy of it, so you can go back to the original. And before saving the form, be sure it's filled out completely and correctly. ..."

  • How can you change the leading in a fillable forms in the multi-line setting?

    I am creating multiple pdf files with check boxes, single text boxes and multi-line. On the form, I have multiple lines where the person will be able to type a description but I can't figure out how to change the leading so that when they do the fillable part, the copy will sit on the printed lines. Does anyone know how to do this, besides with the Typewriter tool, because that tool makes the rest of the document's fillable boxes unusable.

    Try making a new PDF from a blank page and add a couple of text fields. Save and reopen. You'll get a purple box at the top of the page that says there are form fields to be filled. If anyone needs more help they are in trouble. Again if you must have the lines you need to do some experiments with a text box and see what the leading is in Acrobat for the size of the text you are inputting and then adjust your lines to match, not the other way around. You have no control over the leading, just the font size.

  • How to commit the PO form after each line using form personalization

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement, wherein we need to commit the Purchase order form, once a line is entered or before moving to the next line using form personalization.
    Please assist me in getting it done.
    Regards,
    KR.
    Edited by: 834152 on Feb 17, 2011 9:13 PM

    Hi Sandeep,
    Thanks for your response.
    At the line level in the purchase order form, we have configured DFF with one field for train# and 14 fields for the container#.
    In order to prevent the user from entering the same container# twice in the same PO. We need to save the PO on each line. So that when the user move to the next line, our program will check with base tables and confirm whether the entered container# is free to use or not.
    Regards,

  • IRS Forms

    In the past I have always been able to go to the IRS website and fill in forms and then print them for filing with the IRS.  Today when I tried to do that, the form would come up with the blue shaded lines where you can fill in, but then changed and mentioned something about contacting the original owner or something of that sort. I could then no longer fill in the form.  I found the link on the web page to click to create PDF using Acrobat.com. I registered and downloaded Acrobrat 9.3.3 but am still unable to use the fill-in feature on the IRS website.  Am I going to have to take a step backward and print them to fill out by hand now?  If not please explain to me how to be able to fill in the IRS forms online.  I cannot figure out how to do it.

    I downloaded the upgrade to Acrobat X last week.
    My problem with the IRS forms: I can download the forms from the IRS, I can fill them out, but I can't print them. When I try to send the job to either of my printers, I get the message "save form" or something, so I save it. Then I open the saved form in Acrobat X and try to print it. The same thing happens again, with the ultimate message in both cases "document failed to print". This happened with the quarterly 941 yesterday and with the annual 940 today.
    However if I bring up the form on another computer with an older version (9) the forms print just fine, on the same printer I was trying to print to from MY computer.
    This isn't just specific to X, it was the same on v.8.
    Any ideas?

  • Using 'Preview Layouts' on specific objects

    Hi everyone,
    I would want to know if it is possible to import CR layouts in SBO, and use it with the menu "Preview Layouts" on personalized objects.
    When I try to import a CR layout with the Report And Layout Manager of SBO, I choose my RPT file, check the Layout radio button, and open the List Of Documents. But in this list, there are no items which correspond to my specific objects, so I can't link my report and my objects, and when I open a record of my object, the menu "File -> Preview Layouts" is disabled.
    So my question is : is it possible to create new Document Types to be able to link my layout and my objects? Or any other solution which can allow me to use "Preview Layouts" on my specific objects?
    Thanks.

    Hello Charly,
    There is a way to add layout on User object. Using a piece of code, you can add your report in the table RDOC putting it in a BLOB field
    SAPbobsCOM.ReportLayoutsService rptService = (SAPbobsCOM.ReportLayoutsService)oCompany.GetCompanyService().GetBusinessService(SAPbobsCOM.ServiceTypes.ReportLayoutsService);
    SAPbobsCOM.ReportLayout newReport = (SAPbobsCOM.ReportLayout)rptService.GetDataInterface(SAPbobsCOM.ReportLayoutsServiceDataInterfaces.rlsdiReportLayout);
    newReport.Author = oCompany.UserName;
    newReport.Category = SAPbobsCOM.ReportLayoutCategoryEnum.rlcCrystal;
    newReport.Name = "APRS";
    newReport.TypeCode = "TypeCode";
    SAPbobsCOM.ReportLayoutParams newReportParam = rptService.AddReportLayout(newReport);
    newType = rptTypeService.GetReportType(newTypeParam);
    newType.DefaultReportLayout = newReportParam.LayoutCode;
    rptTypeService.UpdateReportType(newType);
    SAPbobsCOM.BlobParams oBlobParams = (SAPbobsCOM.BlobParams)oCompany.GetCompanyService().GetDataInterface(SAPbobsCOM.CompanyServiceDataInterfaces.csdiBlobParams);
    oBlobParams.Table = "RDOC";
    oBlobParams.Field = "Template";
    SAPbobsCOM.BlobTableKeySegment oKeySegment = oBlobParams.BlobTableKeySegments.Add();
    oKeySegment.Name = "DocCode";
    oKeySegment.Value = newReportParam.LayoutCode;
    FileStream oFile = new FileStream("D:\\DEV\\Layouts\\Demo.rpt", System.IO.FileMode.Open);
    int fileSize = (int)oFile.Length;
    byte[] buf = new byte[fileSize];
    oFile.Read(buf, 0, fileSize);
    oFile.Dispose();
    SAPbobsCOM.Blob oBlob = (SAPbobsCOM.Blob)oCompany.GetCompanyService().GetDataInterface(SAPbobsCOM.CompanyServiceDataInterfaces.csdiBlob);
    oBlob.Content = Convert.ToBase64String(buf, 0, fileSize);
    oCompany.GetCompanyService().SetBlob(oBlobParams, oBlob);
    Then you have to associate your form to the reportType using this line of code in your form's constructor:
    oForm.reportType = "ReportType"
    Hoping that can help you
    Best regards

  • Hello Apple community... I am trying to combine multiple pdf's into one, using preview, but when I drag the additional pages they show up as separate documents.

    I am trying to combine multiple pdf's into one, using preview, but when I drag the additional pages they show up as separate documents.  When I drag the doc in a line would show up in the past, and if I went above th eline all was good.  It doesn't have a line, and no matter what I try I am having no success.
    Please help!

    According to an Apple Support article, unless there are unforeseen issues
    in file ownership or permissions, the combining of .PDFs should be simple.
    •OS X: Combining PDF documents using Preview - Apple Support
    There are a few variable and similar methods, some change with version
    of OS X in use; some vintage OS X may vary a little in the process...
    A variety of similar topics appear in search results, with terms:
    " mac os x combine pdf into one " such as this page shows...
    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=mac%20os%20x%20combine%20pdf%20into%20one
    If the system is older than Mavericks there may be other methods to try.
    Suggestions are among linked results in the search. I see a few fair ones.
    •Here's another that offers generally similar suggestions...*  this info looks OK, extra links, do not:

    If you have a problem after trying other methods, based on an OS X

  • How can I remove a signature on a PDF file that I created using Preview on iMac computer??

    How can I remove a signature on a PDF file that I created using Preview on iMac computer??  I inadvertently hit the icon on the Preview tool bar with an xS and a line through it.  There is my signature in the middle of the PDF file I was editing.  How do I get rid of it?  Cannot select it.  Cannot find any tools that allow me to delete it.  The Preview documentation tells how to create and apply a signature, but not how to remove it.  I think when a signature is added the doucment becomes locked from any editing.

    Hey needadobehelp10,
    Using Adobe Acrobat/Reader, you can simply change your PDF view settings under "View > Page Display > Single Page View"
    Is this really you wish for?
    Please let me know.

  • HT2506 I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any Preview updates in the works. I find there is a problem with Preview crashing, or taking a very long time to "catch up" (spinning beachball of death) while I'm editing.

    I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any updates to this program in the works. It seems Apple is constantly updating its software, except for Preview. I find it crashes all too often, and also takes forever to "catch up" with me (as in spinning beachball of death) when I'm editing a lrge amount of photos. Yes, I know I should be using Photoshop or somesuch, but it's just too **** confusing, and I don't have the time to figure it out. Thanks!!

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • I can't print PDF files from the latest Firefox; asks which program created the files. None of the options listed will print the files, such as IRS forms. Running Mac OS 10.6.8.

    I run Mac OS 10.6.8.
    When I try to print a PDT file, such as an IRS form, Firefox opens a small dialog box asking what program was used to create the file I wish to print.No matter which of the selections I choose, the file will not print.
    I have the latest Adobe Reader installed.
    Note that these files always open normally in Safari.

    Hi there,
    Does you printer/RIP support protocols other than AppleTalk? If it does, then I would change it to something like HP Jetdirect-Socket.

    Hello Ankur,
    You need to get the Adobe Document Server running if you are going to
    print PDF files from Tax Reporter. Please have you basis group check
    that the Adobe Document Server is working correctly.
    Please use transaction SFP to test the Adobe Document Server using the
    Tax Reporter forms.
    From Adobe Document Services Implementation Guide;
    Installation Preparation
    Install a SAP Web AS 6.40 J2EE Engine or higher
    A SAP J2EE Engine on Windows is the basis for the Adobe Document
    Services.
    Therefore, before you begin with the installation, make sure that one of
    the following prerequisites are met:
    SAP Web AS J2EE engine on Windows is Installed
    The following installation types are supported:
    - SAP Web AS 6.40 ABAP + J2EE system (J2EE Add-In) or higher
    - SAP Web AS 6.40 J2EE system or higher

  • How Do You Annotate a Graphic Such as your Signature in PDF Using Preview?

    Hi. I'm filling out a form that needs a signature. How do you annotate your signature (as a graphic perhaps?) to the PDF using Preview. Thanks in advance.
    Gbu.

    I'm not sure you can...try dragging & dropping an image onto the PDF. If that doesn't work, you'll have to use the Text tool. That's where Zapfino comes in.
