Is 3.0 included on all new ipod touch from now on? +itunes question

Anyone know if 3.0 is included on all new ipod touch from now on? If so, does Apple have a history of giving you credit for the software update if say, you just got the ipod a couple days ago? I just bought my first mac and got the 2g ipod touch with it on Friday. Argh. If I had known I would've waited but I was so excited from the WWDC news of the 13" macbook I was stalking for so long that I just bought it! I would like to save that $10 if I could. Anyone know if Apple does such things?
Also, I have a 1g iPod touch that was synced with my windows pc. I figured out how to transfer my paid apps and other apps to the new touch, but it says it can only be linked to one iTunes. Is there a way for me to set it up so I can sync the ipod from my new mac from now on? but keep the apps?
THANKS!

Suz, as long as iTunes on both computers are authorized, you should be able to start synching to both. But make sure you do a back-up on your old computer(the one you was synching to all along) before starting to sync your apps to the new one. If you're not sure whether your iTune has been authorized, you can click on 'Store' then go down to the last section where it should say 'View My Account (your e-mail)...'. If not then Authorize it again. Since you may not have all the music files from your previous computer, you should uncheck all sync categories check boxes until you've transfer them by other means to your new pc, otherwise it will erase them from your iPod. The first time you click the sync button(assuming you've already authorized both pcs), a message will pop up asking whether you will want to 'Erase data' or 'Transfer purchases', click on 'Transfer purchases' and iTune will automatically transfer all your iTune purchased songs and apps to your new iTune.

  • Do all new iPods Touch's come with the January Update?

I'm looking at getting myself an iPod Touch and I've found the 16GB version at a really low price but it doesn't mention whether it includes the January update. Do all new iPod Touch's include the January Update or do you still have to buy it separately?

It varies depending on where you look.
I emailed one online store (in the UK) asking whether or not the iPod Touch they were selling had the update and they said some of them do, some of them don't.
I would make sure you ask when ordering (unless from a site like Amazon which sells both those with updates and those without.
You can get the update for 12.99 in UK

  • I just purchased a new ipod touch so now I have two. I do not want the second ipod touch to sync the same as the old ipod touch - 2 people with 2 different music preferences. How do I keep them separate.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • If I get a new iPod touch from Amazon, will it have the new apps?

If I order a new iPod touch from Amazon.com today will it have the new apps? Or will Apple recgonize its new and download them for me for free? Just wondering because I don't want to buy a new one and then get stuck without the apps. Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I have $300 in Amazon gift cards for buying an iPod touch, but found this statement on the product page:
"Does not ship with the latest announced new software applications for the Touch. Software upgrades are available via iTunes for $20"
The 16GB Touch sells for $358.99, which is 2% lower than it was the day before the Keynote. I have a feeling Amazon may have a glut of them before the announcement and will wait to see if Apple even sells them to Amazon for resell.

  • Can't connect brand new iPod touch 4th gen to iTunes, please help!

I just got a new iPod touch, 16 gig 4th generation. I'm going through the setup process. Once I get to the option to connect through a network, I hit a problem. My internet at home requires a MAC address to be "invited" into the network before I can connect, however I can't get the MAC address until I complete setup!
So I choose the "Connect to iTunes" option instead. My computer recognizes that there is an iPod connected to it, but iTunes won't pick it up. There is nothing under "Devices".
    What do I do?? ):

I just retried a step I missed earlier in the articles before and ran into a problem here:
#5 Verify that the apple mobile devi usb driver is installed
    > for windows 7
    > if the apple mobile device usb driver is not listed
    > if only Apple iPod appears
    > for windows 7
I went through all these steps until #8: Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog. At this point it tries to load for a bit and I get this message:
"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. (Apple Mobile Device USB Driver)
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)"
As for your reply, I did indeed already try removing and reinstalling all the Apple programs with unfortunately no effect.
When I do the sync test, I get that one or more things failed: iTunes Helper not running and No iPod found.

  • Syncing a new iPod Touch in a different iTunes library

I just bought an iPod Touch (4g) this afternoon and now I'm ready to set it up on my Macbook.
I already have an iphone 3g synced up to my itunes library. But now I want to create a new library for the ipod so i don't have to keep checking and unchecking songs, apps, etc... when i go to sync either one.
In other words, I want to keep them separated! So, I successfully created and named a new itunes library by pressing the OPTION button and opening itunes.
Now, the library is blank...so how do I get the songs from my ORIGINAL library into the ipod touch library???
Is it as simple as copying and pasting the music folders from the ORIGINAL into the new ipod touch libraries' folder??? Or do I have to redownload everything and insert all my cds again an rip away?
I doubt that I have to do this since I'm using the same account and username. Just want to make sure before I set up the Touch that this is the proper procedure and save me the agony of screwing it up
If anyone knows how to do this, I would appreciate the tip. Thank You!

Good idea. How would I deal with Apps though? If I wanted different Apps on my Touch, won't I have to check mark and then uncheck mark for each device??
I only want certain Apps on the Touch. Can I make playlists for Apps too? Anyway, thanks for your help roaminggnome. I appreciate it.

  • HT1212 I just bought a new ipod touch from a friend but she didn't reset it and everytime that I try to rest it, it keeps saying "Ipod is disable, connect to Itunes" but I'am connected to Itunes and it also says put in correct passcode?? how do I reset it

I just bought a new Ipod ios from a friend and she didn't reset it before she gave it to me and when I try to connect it to my laptop it keeps saying "Ipod is disable, connect to itunes"and it says to put in the correct passcode but I don't know what the passcode is and now I can't get ahold of my friend that sold it to me. So my question is: How do I reset the passcode and the Ipod touch so that I can sync it to my laptop and so that I can enjoy my new Ipod Touch?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • How do I download current music and apps to new ipod touch from old ipod touch?

My daughter is getting a new IPod Touch and we aren't sure how to transfer all the apps and music to the new one. Does it download easily from her account when she registers the new IPod. We don't want to have to buy everything all over again.
    Thanks!

You can sync as many ipods as you like to one computer.
Plug in the new one and sync whatever you lime to it.
Everything that is on the old ipod should be on your computer.

  • Should I hold off on buying a new iPod Touch right now?

My 4+ year old first generation iPod Touch completely died about a month and a half ago. I am planning on buying a new one but I need some advice. Should I buy one now or is it worth it to wait another month until the new iPod Touch 5th gen comes out?
I don't particularly care about buying the 5th gen, I just am curious if you guys think there will be a big price cut in the 4th gen next month when the newer model comes out. Is there usually a price drop on the older gen models right when a new one comes out? I'm all about saving money lol

Seems 4g is going to stay the latest model for years to come kidding, coz u know they just keep mum about it. All they care is about their iPhone & iPad.

  • New iPod Touch with January Update Restore Question

    Hi,
Few days ago i bought new iPod Touch with 1.1.3 software and January Update.
When I restore it I'll lose my January Update programs ? And if that happened what can I do to get them back ?
PS. Sorry for my poor english :P
    Cheers

It was mentioned already in this thread. If you look at the package check the seriel number. If it ends with /B then that is the new model and it has the new applications that were provided in the Jaunary update already programmed into the iPod. If you restore you will not lose them.
If it ends with /A then it is an older model that required the January Update in order to get the applications on your iPod. If you restore then you will lose them but you don't need to purchase them again as your iTunes will keep track of the purchase for you.

  • Is new iPod Touch 5 now shipping with iOS7?

Was just wondering is the new iPod Touch now shipping with iOS7 or still (6.1.3) depending on the date of manufacture. Because on the Apple website it's still stating the system requirements for iTunes is still 10.7. When did it require iTunes 11 on the (iOS7 or the iOS7.2) update?
If they're now shipping with (iOS7). Apple forgot to update that page because it still stating the minimum requirements for iTunes is still iTunes (10.7) Not that it really affects me because I have iPod Touch (4th gen) and running (iOS 6.1.3) but I though I would point that out anyways.

I know but now if you've upgraded or it ships with iOS7 in order to sync with iTunes a message pops up and states in order to sync this iPod you now have to have iTunes 11. Now if you want to manage your IPod Touch (5th) your forced to download iTunes 11, that is unless the iPod is still at (6.1.3).

  • New iPod Touch, Can't get iTunes to work, extra headaches

    Hello,
This is my first day in the Apple world: I caved and thought it would be good to get a new mp3/video player after my last one died. I ended up getting a 4th Gen Black iPod Touch - not sure if the color matters, but why not?
Anyway, my second problem (first being the weird packaging, of tape through plastic then stuck on) started with iTunes: the thing just would NOT download. Every time I tried, the website kept saying "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to completecould not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." That's just great: I can't get any music or video ONTO my iTouch without iTunes...right?
After browsing around I found an older version of iTunes that seemed to work. Yay! But not really. Nobody ever mentioned that .flac and .avi files can't be imported into iTunes at all...so I had to go hunting online for third party converters. This took care of THAT problem...
However, now that conversion is up, the older version of iTunes won't pick up my iPod Touch and Sync it. There is actually a "Sync iPod" button under "File" tab, but it's grayed out and I can't use it.
Not entirely sure if this is why, but according to a few people, when a new iTunes comes out, the older one stops functioning as fully as it originally did, forcing people to upgrade their iTunes in order to make it work like normal.
I tried to find a third party program to pick up my iPod Touch so I could upload files, but no luck. I feel like an idiot for not knowing how to turn source code into a program, and the binary installers I did find were user-hostile (ie. Right clicking to bring up a menu actually plays the movie and there's no stop button, you have to end task from the task manager). Windows Explorer only shows one folder in my iPod Touch, which is empty and four letters long, which gives no clue as to what it is.
So here's my big question: now that I finally am fully ready to upload my files to my iPod Touch, I can't. Why?
Is it my version of iTunes? Why can't I download iTunes' newest version? Why does updating from the older version yield the same result (though I'm sure both installers are the same)? Is there another way to get all my media onto my device?
Thanks in advance...talk about a four hour headache...

I've used the Reset Network Settings feature in my iPod Touch after every failed attempt to connect to my wireless network. I've also reset the wireless access point and router after making changes to them.
It appears that my Touch is finding the wireless network, accepting the security password/key, and connecting to the wireless access point and router (I get a full signal on the strength indicator). However, the Touch appears to be acquiring the IP Address automatically, right? Thus, it gets the IP Address starting with "169". If I can manually set up the TCP/IP settings, I believe I can get it to connect. Is there a way to set up the TCP/IP settings manually?

  • Got a new iPod touch and now i want it to be the iPod i can use on my iTune

So i got an itouch to replace an older ipod of mine. But now my itunes only recognizes my old ipod and the only way i can get new stuff onto my new ipod is by syncing it which is fine but i can't create playlists or organize my music at all. So what do i do? I don't use the old one anymore so i don't care about it not being the main ipod on my account. help!

    I don't understand?
"But now my itunes only recognizes my old ipod"
    and
" i can get new stuff onto my new ipod is by syncing i"
How do you sync if itunes does not recognize your new ipod?
You can sync as many ipods as you like to the same computer/library.
What is the problem? You are syncing music to your new ipod.

  • Brand new iPod touch not showing in iTunes - HELP!!!

It showed when I first got it home, then I updated to iTunes 10.1, and it wouldn't show. Called Apple, they had me put iTunes in the trash (along with some other things) and reinstall it. It showed again, and everything was fine - until I updated to iTunes 10.1.1, then it was gone again! Called Apple again, they had me check all kinds of things. Then had me reset my iPod touch. It came up with an error, and they said it was a hardware problem, to send it back to them and they would send me a new one. Got the new one today, and guess what? IT DOESN'T SHOW UP IN ITUNES!!! I'm beyond frustrated! I don't want to have to reinstall iTunes every time there is an update. I have yet another call set up with them, but if there are any other suggestions before then, I'm all ears!
