Is connection NAME property DSN or connection name

Hi We run std 2008 R2.  I have what I hear is an odbc connector to a btrieve general ledger system.
I also hear that I have to and have created two separate odbc DSN's on my local to extract data from this source for two different companies.
I want to use the same conn mgr in ssis for otherwise identical DFTs in both companies and am hoping by making the conn mgr "name" property an expression, I'll be able to pull that off.  But am not sure what that property is for.
My recollection is that there was trouble going with "use connection string" (too bad cuz that property is obvious) instead of "use user or system dsn" when setting up the conn mgr but wouldn't swear to that.
Can someone advise?  I'll keep looking on the internet but am coming up short so far.
my provider is ".net Providers\odbc data provider".  I didn't see a property for my oledb sources to use an expression based conn mgr but may look again at that alternative.  Unfortunately the going is slow cuz ssis keeps locking up in
the gui presumably because its checking this connection's availability periodically.

Hi db042190,
A data source name (DSN) is a data structure that contains the information about a specific database that an Open Database Connectivity ( ODBC ) driver needs in order to connect to it. Included in the DSN, which resides either in the registry or as a separate
text file, is information such as the name, directory and driver of the database, and, depending on the type of DSN, the ID and password of the user. Name is just the name of the connection manager. They are completely different.
If you want to change the DSN dynamically, I suggest you configure the ConnectionString property via Expression.

  • Name property of XML forms

    Dear All,
    I need to display a fixed name (which cannot be edited by the end-user) on my Edit and Show Xml forms.
    The Name property available allows the Name to be entered on in text field and carries the same perfectly when rendering the Show form.
    However being in a text field allows the user to edit the name.
    Is there any way by which I could display the name property on a label or a locked control?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I have tried placing a label and getting the Name Property to refer to the same but the system does not pick up the text on the label.
    I have also tried to replace the text field with a label but that didn't work either.
    It only seems to picks up the text as 'Name' when placed in a text field.

  • Cognos iView Name Property not changing

    Hello,
    I have some Cognos iViews that was imported into the portal.  These iViews are pretty much similar to other SAP iViews with the addition of some CPS properties which is Cognos specific.  I'm able to change the name of the iView but the change did not apply to the PCD object or at run time.  The Name property shows the changed name but just didn't apply.
    Upon looking into this further and wondering where the default name is coming from, it seem to be set at the ID level.  I went to change the ID and seen the property where you change the object name but it's greyed out.  I believe that's because the SAP Portal version that we're on.  So, I'm unable to change this property.
    First off, is there a way to override the defualt property object name setting?
    Secondly, if no to the first question, is there a way to activate the object name setting so it can be changed?

    Thank you very much for that suggestion.  That process worked!
    I did have to export the role in the PCD to XML and then edit the instance of the iView's name to be a space.  I was then able to re-import the role with out any problem.
    If anyone else runs in to this, make sure that you set all properties on the object you need to re-name <u>before</u> you export it.  Otherwise as soon as you open the object you'll get the same error.
    Next I am going to create a ticket with SAP about this problem.  I can see why they would not want to allow a null value in a property but they should allow a space.
    Thanks again,
    Steve

  • About the "Omit Oracle Connection Name" property

    now every time i connect to the db using components of Oracle.DataAccess i get the 603 error, but using System.Data.OracleClient and setting "Omit Oracle Connection Name = true" in the connection string it works. then i go back to use the Oracle.DataAccess and set "Omit Oracle Connection Name = true" in the connection string, when connecting a exception pops up saying "Omit Oracle Connection Name" is invalid .
    so what the "Omit Oracle Connection Name" is, is there any way i can solve the 603 error using Oracle.DataAccess?
    thx in advanced

    "Omit Oracle Connection Name" is not a connection string attribute of ODP.NET (Oracle Data Provider for .NET) hence it can not be used.
    What is the version of database you are attempting to connect to? What is the version of ODP.NET are you using?

  • TTIMDB Connection issues: Can't resolve a non-optional query descriptor property [DSN]

    Hi there,
    We currently have the 11g TTIMDB plugin deployed in our EM10g instance without issue and looking to migrate to 12c.  We've installed/deployed the 12.1.0.2.0 plugin into our EM12c instance and deployed it to 12cR3 agent on our TTIMDB dev server.
    When adding the TTIMDB target in the same manner it's deployed in 10g, the connection tested fine to the DB however the target is showing down with the following errors.....
    1. Under Monitoring > All Metrics we get this... "The TimesTen database is down: [data source/db name] is not loaded"
    2. Under Target Setup > Monitoring Configuration we test the connection, and though testing the connection when first configuring the plugin worked fine it's now failing... "
    Response;Can't resolve a non-optional query descriptor property [DSN] (DSN)"
    Any thoughts on what may be causing these errors?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Maybe you are confusing the main daemon running (TimesTen instance is up) with a specific database being up? When you install TimesTen you create a TimesTen 'instance'. This instance has several daemon components the most critical of which is the main daemon. When the main daemon is running the instance is 'up' and when the main daemon is not running the instance is 'down'. An instance may manage several distinct databases concurrently and those may each be up (in memory) or down (not in memory) independently of each other. In order for anything meaningful to happen within an instance the instance must be up.
    The default behaviour for TimesTen is to load a database into memory when something connects to it, to maintain it in memory while there are open connections and to unload it from memory when the last connection is closed. This can be useful for development and testing environments but is not necessarily the best choice for production environments. Generally, in a production environment, you should set the database(s) to 'manual' ramPolicy:
    ttAdmin -ramPolicy manual DSN
    then you can explicitly load the database into memory (i.e. start up the database):
    ttAdmin -ramLoad DSN
    and, when all connections have been close, you can explicitly shut it down:
    ttAdmin -ramUnload DSN
    Many customers find this a better way to manage production databases than the default behaviour.

    Did you already try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data.
    If this does not work, try to reset the network settings in Settings/General/Reset. After that you'll have to put in the passwords for all known networks again.

    I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
    But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.

    It is so clear: host not found error for network connection and the other SID servcie name not found means your oracle instance name is not up. check with srvctl status for given servcie name or node, else check CRS_Stat -t if you are using RAC.

  • Getting "There are no speakers connected to the AirPlay device " device-name "

    For the past several years, I have had a stereo receiver hooked up to and airport express to stream music wirelessly from my iMac to stereo speakers.  All of a sudden, I started getting the message "There are no speakers connected to the AirPlay device "<device-name>".  So, what changed, we recently changed ISP from Verizon DSL to RCN cable, I changed my Apple ID (due to the ISP change), I upgraded all computers to OS X Lion, and I have a new iPhone5.  I can't tell you exactly when during the process things went bad, but I can tell you what I have done to solve the problem:
    I checked that my devices are configured correctly. The network layout is as follows: I have an Airport Express on the 3rd floor of my house, along with the iMac containing the iTunes library, I have an Airport Express on the 2nd floor acting as a repeater, I have an Airport Express on the 1st floor acting as a repeater and connected to my stereo receiver and 4 speakers.  I control which set of speakers is "on" via the receiver.
    I checked that I can get sound out of the speakers via the receiver by selecting FM and got radio to play, so I believe the receiver is ok.
    I swapped this receiver with another receiver and got no sound and still the message "there are no speakers connected..."
    I moved the Airport Express from the AUX port to the TAPE2 port to check the port.  Still no sound.
    I checked the cable with a Bose box and got sound, so I believe the cable is ok.
    I plugged a headset directly into the Airport Express and got no sound.
    I swapped the 2nd floor and 1st floor Airport Express units, reconfigured the new 1st floor unit to turn on Air Play and still get no sound and the error message.
    I am controlling the music using the Remote app on my iPhone.  I have configured the new device to use this library.
    I am tired, confused and at a loss.  What can be going on here?

    All that I can suggest is that you perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express to wipe the current settings and set it up again.
    If you are still having problems after that, you need to take the Express to an Apple Store or Apple Servicer near you to let them have a look at what I suspect is a defective AirPort Express.

  • #Name in Access table - Connection string problem

    Dear All,
    Hope you can help with this one. I am using the 9.0.1.8 ODBC driver set to connect to our Oracle817 database. Usually when connecting tables everything is fine, and no problems appear. There are, however, a small handful of tables that cause ODBC Call Failed errors when I attempt to connect and open them, they display an incorrect record count, and fill all columns with #Name.
    After checking someone else's PC, I have found that the problem is caused by the connection string. Obviously the connection string is genereated from the setting used in the ODBC Admin panel, but how do I get it to include or exclude the settings that are causing the problems?
    With thanks in advance,
    Paul.

    The Application Name is used for the database administrator to see the name of the application that is connecting to SQL Server. If it is not provided, the default value is '.NET SQLClient Data Provider'.

    If your provider won't tell you then you must use their provided router.. some ISP are like that.

  • How to connect the database (JDBC) using service name rather than SID

    How should we make the connection to the database using service name. Initially, we are using the SID to make the database connection, with following setting in the data-source.xml in OC4J using ABCDB as the SID.
    <data-sources>
         <data-source
              class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
              name="jdbc/ABCDB"
              location="jdbc/ABCDB"
              pooled-location="jdbc/OracleDSPooled"
              xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleDSXA"
              connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
              username="ABC"
              password="ABC"
              url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@191.1.4.126:1521:ABCDB"
         />
    </data-sources>
    It work, but now we need to make the connection using this service name ABCSERVICE, but it doesn't work in the OC4J (JDBC). May I know how should we handle this connection?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Pang

    Finally, I got the solution to make the database connection using service name, with putting the tnsname setting in URL portion.
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address=(host=191.1.4.126)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(SERVICE_NAME = ABCSERVICE)))"
    And now, it is working fine.

  • Import connections with + (plus) sign in the name

    Hi...
    There seems to be an issue with importing connections that contain a "+" sign in the (reference) name.
    This is easy to replicate:
    * Create a new connection and name it e.g. "Test 123 +" (no matter if there are whitespaces or not)
    * Export the connections (e.g. c:\temp\exp.xml)
    * Look at the XML- you will find the connections names as they are...
    * Now delete the test connection in SQL developer and try to import the connection from the file
    I do not get any errors but nothing happens either. The connection simply gets skipped. When importing a connection file with many connection entries in it it will import all but those with a "+" sign in the name (this might apply to other characters as well).

    You can override the check we do in the UI and manually edit the connections XML file to change the name to whatever you desire.Alas, only white-space and dash/minus signs in mine, I figured colon was bad. (e.g. Group - subgroup1, Group - subgroup2 type names)
    I do have one that is just named as a hostname, with the periods, but I don't see that in the list.

  • Need help/info on "database link of same name has an open connection"

    Hello,
    I am trying to create an application on html db (new in html db) to see if I can move data from one database (oracle 9i) say dbdev to another one called dbtest. I want to be able to select the data from html db app and by clicking on a button move them to dbtest ( right now only looking at data from one table ). This is what I have done so far:
    1. created a duplicated table of dbdev into html db with no data.
    2. created package with procedures to
    A. create a database link
    B. delete if there is a record on html db table
    C. go trough a loop (cursor) and get the data from dbdev
    D. drop the database link
    Now, when I do all of the above steps I get an error “database link of same name has an open connection" but when I don’t do the step C. I don’t get this error. So something is wrong in my step C. On my step C, I just open the cursor, do a for loop and insert the records into my html db table.
    Any idea!!!
    Thanks
    More questions to come…..

    never mind, I should not drop the database link with in the procedure.
    thx
