Is DG4ODBC part of 11Gr2 install?

I have created a test database in 11Gr2 on 64 bit windows 2008 server, the production database is running on 10G 32 bit windows, and using heterogeneous connections to connect to several AS400 databases.
I understand that 11G has replaced the old HSODBC with DG4ODBC gateway. My questions are:
#1 - do I need to install any "extras" in my 11Gr2 (EE) install, or is it part of the install - how can I tell if it's installed? There are sample files in the oracle_home\hs folder, is this still the home for the init files etc?
#2 - is this basically the same as HSODBC? Anything I need to do different?
#3 - another 11GR2 database I will be creating on this machine requires a connection to a 32 bit MSAccess database - is this going to be an issue with the 64 bit drivers?
thanks in advance.

Hi,
Yes, DG4ODBC is installed along with the RDBMS in 11.2 so to answer your questions -
1. You do not need to install any extras for it to work, apart from the third party ODBC drivers. To check if it is installed look for the dg4odbc.exe executable in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory and $ORACLE_HOME/hs is still the home directory for the DG4ODBC init files.
You will need to setup and configure the gateway as this is not done automatically. See this note in My Oracle Support -
Note.1083703.1 Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products
which has links to setup and configuration notes.
2. DG4ODBC is the direct replacement for the earlier HSODBC and is used in the same way as HSODBC.
3. You will need to check with Microsoft if the 64-bit Access drivers can connect to a 32-bit Access database. If that can be done then the connection will also work using DG4ODBC.
Please get back if anything isn't clear or you have any further questions. Otherwise, please mark the thread as 'answered'.

  • Stuck trying to remove Cluster/RAC 11Gr1 in prep for 11Gr2 install...

    Hello all,
I'm thinking I'm missing something simple here...but I can't figure it out yet.
Ok, I have a 3 node RAC cluster, Oracle 11Gr1...I want to remove all instance, and clustering (ASM is ok to keep)...before I try to put on 11Gr2.
    This is on RHEL5.
I had previously used srvctl to remove the databases, nodeapps, asm...etc., in anticipation of removal of everything.
I found the de-install directions for 11Gr1 at Oracle's site...and found they said for this release, to use DBCA to remove the RAC instances, and then the clusterware.
This is where i"m stuck. I opened up DBCA, and for the RAC stuff...the option to delete databases was greyed out unselectable.
I thought this odd. I went to look at the instructions...and while in the Preamble of what was going to happen with the de-install, it mentioned shutting down database instances, etc....it did NOT in fact, say to do this prior to firing up DBCA.
So, I went back with srvctl, I added nodeapps (clustering was still running). I added back the ASM..I could do lsnrctl status, and I saw it up, and saw ASM there.
I next tried adding my databases back...which seemed to go without error. However, I did a database start..and no error, but when doing a ps-ef | grep pmon, I see nothing running on any node??
I tried to do a config on the database instances...no error messages returned...but again, doing the srvctl start did nothing.
I thought, well, lets see if DBCA can work from here.
This time, it DID see the RAC instances...but said they were "inactive". It would not let me past this screen (even after adding sys user and password)...to delete the databases.
I've never used srvctl to start from scratch to add asm, listeners, nodeapps and database instance...only to delete them, so I'm guessing I'm missing a step here.
I saw there was an add service option, but I'm not sure what the service is or how to use this command. I tried to add a service with best guess something like
    ./srvctl add service -d INSTANCE -s INSTANCE-u -a "INSTANCE1 INSTANCE2 INSTANCE3"
But it threw an error saying :
PRKP-1085 : Service name cannot be same as the database default service name "INSTANCE"
So, am I missing the service part of getting these database instances up and running? If so, can someone give me some suggestions on what I'm missing doing here.
As a second part to this...can I remove all the instance stuff without DBCA? If I go back, and remove everything with srvctl......
Then go to DBCA to remove the clustering software (I should still be able to do that)
Can I then go, and just hit each node, remove each $ORACLE_HOME...to get rid of all binaries, etc?
I wanna make sure I clean off everything 11Gr1 (except the ASM libs)...before I try to put 11Gr2 on these nodes..as that I know they are pretty different, and I don't want any old stuff there messing with the new install.
    Thank you in advance,
    cayenne

    Hi,
did you also add back the instances? srvctl add instance?

  • Oracle win 11gr2 install in Windows 7 environment

I installed oracle 11gr2, the installation went very well. I could login to sql plus created tables and query the database.
Only one thing i see is different than past installations is that oracle files are installed in c:\app\userid\ admin... and other files in that path.
My experience in the past is to define oracle hone and files are found there.
is it going to be a problem when I use third party tools like erwin, toad etc.
how do i fix the problem. I tried to connect to the database thru erwin and had problem.
    Thank you

  • Oracle 11gR2 install query

I have downloaded the Oracle 11g Release 2 form the Oracle website for installation.
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)
    win64_11gR2_database_1of2.zip (1,213,501,989 bytes) (cksum - 3906682109)
    win64_11gR2_database_2of2.zip (1,007,988,954 bytes) (cksum - 1232608515)
    Directions
    1. All files are in the .zip format. There is an unzip utility here if you need one.
    2. Download and unzip both files to the same directory.
    3. Installation guides and general Oracle Database 11g documentation are here.
    4. Review the certification matrix for this product here.
I am confused about the directions When it says "Download and unzip both files to the same directory" as I have never done it before, can someone please clarify?
Basically, I have folder C:\temp where I have downloaded the .zip files and unzipped them and ended up with two folders in the same directory:
folder "win64_11gR2_database_1of2" containing folders and files database\doc, install, response, stage, setup.exe and welcome.xml
    and
folder "win64_11gR2_database_2of2" containing database\stage\Components\and other folders within it.
What does it want me to do in order to have everything ready for installation? Do I need to place the content of the components folder "win64_11gR2_database_2of2" into the components folder in "win64_11gR2_database_1of2" and then run the setup.exe from "win64_11gR2_database_1of2"?
    Thanks

Ok, so I need to copy the contents of the "Components" folder in the part 2of2 into the "Components" folder of part 1of2 and then do all the install form part 1of2, I guess?
Apologies for this, just found the wording a bit confusing.
Thanks again in advance for your help.

  • Client 11gR2 install on Win 7 Pro fails java.lang.NullPointerException

I'm attempting to install the Oracle 11gR2 Client on a windows 7 professional (32 bit) system and the install is failing.
I've downloaded the latest client files from this web link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/112010_win32soft.html
I launch the install with a user account that is a member of the local machine administrators.
A command window opens, the text says that the system passed the minimum resolution test and that it's preparing to launch the Oracle Universal Installer.
After about 10 seconds an application error window pops open that says java.lang.NullPointerException with an OK button. Pressing OK ends the install session.
This is a new Dell (E5400) laptop that has never been deployed. It has the latest java version (and updates) installed,
Does anyone have an idea on how I can resolve the install issue?
    Thanks!
    Vince

  • What ADF version is compatible with FormsReports 11gR2 install?

    Hello everyone,
our customer has installed a vanilla FormsReports 11gR2.
This comes with a WLS 10.3.6 and JRF libraries.
They want to start with ADF development and they wondered what version of ADF is compatible with this FormsReports release?
The same question but differently formulated: how can you see what version of the JRF libraries are used? Looking at the version numbers in the deployment table of the WLS console is not conclusive.
Thank you very much in advance.

  • Nsldap32v50.dll is part of CR11R2 install but has no file version

Hi, I have a Windows applications that I have CR reports in it. In my setup pacakge I have included the use of CrystalReports11_5_net_2005.msm to install the CR run time libraries for my application.
nsldap32v50.dll is part of crystalreports11_5_net_2005.msm installatino.  This and another 2 nsldap dlls are installed onto c:\windows\System32 folder.  I would like to know why CR requires to install this and other 2 nsldap dlls.
I'm getting error of nsldap32v50.dll has file version (same with the other 2 ldap files that CR will intall) when I run my applicaiton's setup package through MS Application Verifier V2.5.  Is there a fix for this problem?  If not, how can I go by to get rid of this error?
    Thank you.

The nsldap*.dll files are utilized in Enterprise .NET applications for LDAP authentication to BusinessObjects Enterprise. We only have one set of merge modules for Crystal Reports for .NET and Enterprise .NET applications so this is why these files are installed even though you may not be using LDAP.
    nsldap32v50.dll
    nsldappr32v50.dll
    nsldapssl32v50.dll
The only way I know of to get them out would be to modify the MSM file with Orcas. But that may be a bit risky.

... how can you see what version of the JRF libraries are used? ...The approach in the blog post "How to find the version of ADF libraries installed on WLS 11g" searches the contents of some JAR file.
A disadvantage could be that a wrong JAR file is searched (of a different installation for which the files are on the same file system) and also that you would need access to the file system where these JAR files are (which might not always be trivial).
Where "wrong JAR" refers to the difference between "installed" (as in the blog post) and "used" (as in your question).
To see what you really have available at run-time, an alternative approach could be to deploy ADFLibrariesVersionsApp.ear [1] and review the response you get from URLs like these:

Check the asm_diskstring parameter in the pfile if the ASM can discover the drives correctly .
Are you create a partition our ASM drives ?.

  • How to start the SCAN listener on new 11Gr2 install?

Ok...starting dbca on first RAC install on the new 11Gr2 cluster.
I was about to proceed from screen 3 to 4...and it comes up with an error saying the SCAN listener hasn't been started.
I started what I thought was the listener with lsrnctl start...but apparently that isn't enough.
What do I do to start the SCAN listener? I'm still a bit hazy on what this is for.....
    Thanks in advance,
    cayenne

Man..there just is NOT a lot of good, easy to find direct documentation on this.
I found this document that had some srvctl instructions:
How to update the IP address of the SCAN VIP resources (ora.scan.vip) [ID 952903.1]
    And from there...I tried experimentingL
    # $GRID_HOME/bin/srvctl stop scan_listener
    # $GRID_HOME/bin/srvctl stop scan
    # $GRID_HOME/bin/srvctl status scan
    I did:
    [oracle@node1 bin]$ ./srvctl status scan
    SCAN VIP scan1 is enabled
SCAN VIP scan1 is not running
    SCAN VIP scan2 is enabled
SCAN VIP scan2 is not running
    SCAN VIP scan3 is enabled
SCAN VIP scan3 is not running
    [oracle@node1 bin]$ ./srvctl start scan
    [oracle@node1 bin]$ ./srvctl status scan
    SCAN VIP scan1 is enabled
SCAN VIP scan1 is running on node node5
    SCAN VIP scan2 is enabled
SCAN VIP scan2 is running on node node3
    SCAN VIP scan3 is enabled
SCAN VIP scan3 is running on node node4
Trying to start the scan listener:
    [oracle@node1 bin]$ ./srvctl status scan_listener
    SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is not running
    SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN2 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN2 is not running
    SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN3 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN3 is not running
    [oracle@node1 bin]$ ./srvctl start scan_listener
    [oracle@node1 bin]$ ./srvctl status scan_listener
    SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN1 is running on node node1
    SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN2 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN2 is running on node node3
    SCAN Listener LISTENER_SCAN3 is enabled
SCAN listener LISTENER_SCAN3 is running on node node4
So...it appears I figured how to get scan and the scan listener running.
I'm guessing I need to do some form of the srvctl add....I found this:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e10718/srvctladmin.htm#CDDEEBCH
On it, I found the generic instructions for add:
    srvctl add scan
Adds Oracle Clusterware resources for the given SCAN. This command creates the same number of SCAN VIP resources as the number of IP addresses that SCAN resolves to, or 3 when network_number identifies a DHCP network and Oracle GNS configuration.
    Note:
This command is only available with Oracle Clusterware.
    Syntax and Options
Use the srvctl add scan command with the following syntax:
    srvctl add scan -n scan_name [-k network_number]
    [-S subnet/netmask[/if1[|if2|...]]]
Table A-14 srvctl add scan Options
    Option      Description
    -n scan_name
A fully qualified host name, which includes the domain name.
    -k network_number
The optional network number from which SCAN VIPs are obtained. If not specified, the SCAN VIPs are obtained from the same default network from which the nodeapps VIP is obtained.
    -S subnet/netmask
    [if1 [|if2|...]]
Creates the network_number. This option must be specified when network_number does not exist.
    Example
An example of this command is:
    # srvctl add scan -n scan.mycluster.example.com
    srvctl add scan_listener
Adds Oracle Clusterware resources to the SCAN listeners. The number of SCAN listener resources created is the number of SCAN VIP resources.
    Note:
This command is only available with Oracle Clusterware.
    Syntax and Options
Use the srvctl add scan_listener command with the following syntax:
    srvctl add scan_listener [-l lsnr_name_prefix] [-s]
    [-p "[TCP:]port_list[IPC:key][NMP:pipe_name][TCPS:s_port] [SDP:port]"]
Table A-15 srvctl add scan_listener Options
    Option      Description
    -l lsnr_name_prefix
    The SCAN listener name prefix.
    -s
Use the -s option to skip checking of the ports.
    -p "[TCP:]port_list
    [IPC:key][NMP:pipe_name]
    [TCPS:s_port]
    [SDP:port]"
Protocol specifications for the listener. port_list is a comma-delimited list of TCP ports or listener endpoints.
If this option is not specified, then the default TCP port of 1521 is used.
    Example
An example of this command is:
    # srvctl add scan_listener -l myscanlistener
So, if I understand this correctly, to get scan and scan listener to autostart on boot I do something like this?
If my SCAN name is database-scan
I'd need to do srvctl add scan -n database-scan ?
For the scan listener, from the instructions it sounds like I can name it anything I want...is that correct...?
So I could do something like
    srvctl add scan_listener -l fred ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. (Ok, not going to really name it fred)

  • Strange DG4ODBC problem on 11gR2 RAC connecting to MySql

I have a two node experimental RAC that was built using Jeffrey Hunter's "Build Your Own Oracle RAC Cluster on Oracle Enterprise Linux and iSCSI" paper. I upgraded it to 11gR2 for kicks. This is running on 64bit CentOS.
I am trying to get the RAC to connect to a remote MySQL database. One node (RAC2) always connects, the other (RAC1) does not. I've tested the connection using dg4odbc, a database link, and sqlplus. Both nodes will connect to the mysql database via the isql client.
Since this is an experimental setup, it is just being used by me, so it has low traffic. The requests for mysql data on both nodes are getting directed to RAC1. From the listener log file on that node:
    07-JAN-2010 08:33:59 * (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=mysql)(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=rac1)(USER=
    oracle))) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=192.168.1.20)(PORT=33196)) * establish
    * mysql * 0
    07-JAN-2010 08:34:03 * (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=mysql)(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=rac2)(USER=
    oracle))) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=192.168.1.11)(PORT=55698)) * establish
    * mysql * 0
so the listener on RAC1 is successfully receiving requests from both nodes.
A 'select * from "test"@mysql' on RAC2 successfully returns data. That same request from RAC1 returns the dreaded Net8 error:
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from MYSQL
I am fairly certain that in this case, the dg4odbc agent fails to launch. No dg4odbc log file appears in the /hs/log directory. In the case of the successful RAC2 request, I do get a proper log file.
So what would cause the launching of the dg4odbc agent by the listener to fail if the request comes in from RAC1 vs RAC2?? All the config files / libraries are the same on both nodes, I've checked them a half dozen times.
Executing 'dg4odbc' on both machines from the OS command prompt returns:
    Oracle Corporation --- THURSDAY JAN 07 2010 09:01:56.170
Heterogeneous Agent Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production Built with
    Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC
So I know it isn't a library issue with DG4ODBC. It will launch on both machines.
    This one has me stumped!
    Thanks in advance....

    Hi ,
I'm trying to configure dg4odbc on oracle RAC 11.2 with two nodes but I having the same error like you on both nodes! could you please share with me your configuration on the correct node ? particulary tnsnames.ora, listener.ora , intdg4odbc.ora.
    Thanks

  • 11gR2 Install Error, Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it

    Hi all,
I'm currently studying towards my OCA, I've passed 1z0-051 (SQL Fundementals I), and now I'm moving onto 1z0-052 (Admin 1).
Im really having trouble creating a database in Oracle 11g R2 Enterprise Edition. I install the software no problem. Then I create a database, and during the creation I have to createsa listener which uses TCP (default port:1521) and IPC. whilst creating the database I get the following error
'Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it. Start the Listener and register database service and run EM configuration Assistant again.'
Now, before you lynch me, I have searched this forum for answer to this for a day and a half. I've also tried google, i just can't find a answer that sorts out my problem. please assist me.

I can login as sys into my database through sqlplus, so it seems the database is up and running, it just seems to be a listener problem maybe??
Many thanks for any assistance that you give. I'm learning so be gentle...
    Damien

    SOLVED!
OK all solved now, thanks to the link to Ed Stevens website that Baris posted (mucho respect )
Seems that like Barus said I was not using Dynamic Registration, which means that I would need to manua
ly update the listerner.ora file. On top of that it seems that for some my tnsnames.ora wasn't resolving mt database name so the tnsping wasfailing.
What I did to solve the name resolution problem
    1. Opened the
Network Configuration Assistant and saw that my listener didnt have my DB registered with it. So I added it. What this horrible GUI tool does is update the tnsnames and listener.ora files for you. So once that was done I went to the command prompt and did ;'tnsping <dn name> and hey presto it was getting a nice response.
Then I re-ran my DB Configuration Assistant and tried to reconfigure my database. However it aing failed and gave me the same message that I was originally getting about the DB Service not being registered etc..the lister status still said that same thing:
    Services Summary...
    Service "CLRExtProc" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "CLRExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
the 'unknown' means that the DB  didnt tell the listener that it was there but instead the listener is in manual mode and will just use the configuration in the listener.ora to know where the DB is.
So then I followed the steps on the ED Stevens website (follow the link). He has steps which show how to enable Dynanmic registration so that your DB regusters itself with the listener. In a nutshell, he states that he listener actually doesnt need the listerner.ora if using dynamic registration. I shutdown the DB, stopped the listener then I renamed the lsitener.ora to listerner.old, then started the lietener and checked the status and it said 'the listener supports no service' I then started the DB and, then resched teh listener status, it then read 'status: READY'... hooray!, the DB had dynamically registered itself with the listener. I then was able to successfully start up and run Enterprise Manager.
Thanks for all your help Baris, and Ed Steven website.
I know more now than when I started so I'm happy.
    Thanks.

  • Forms 11gR2 installed on linux (centos 6.3) cannot start

    hello ervery one,
I installed weblogic 10.3.5 and jdk first ,and then installed forms11gR2 on my linux virtual machine.
I can not start up my forms builder .
it report an error: cannot find libjvm.so :cannot open shared object file ,no such file or directory.
the weblogic server can start normally.
what may be the reason and how can i fix it ?
    lmw.

CentOS is not a supported operating system for 11g Forms/Reports - thus if you run into a brickwall on this, don't be surprised :)
Despite it not being supported, I have ran Forms Builder in an unsupported linux environment before. You likely just need to setup missing environment variables to get it to run, make sure the environment variables listed below are set. I'd probably do this in a little shell script to launch forms builder. However just a fair warning, the user interface isnt pretty when you run it on UNIX-based systems.
