I cannot sync songs and it doesn't show that I am connected to the cloud on my desktop. Just downloaded a bunch of songs and have no way to sync them to my ipod eventhough the ipod is connected and syncing.

This worked brilliantly!!! Thank you so much!! Pre is set......only issue now is that fact that half my music in iTunes is in a Protected AAC file format that the Pre can't play

I can't delete them. I've tried unticking all the music that was on the ipod via itunes and re-syncing, which in theory should delete all music from my ipod. It does except for the 5 ghost songs.   So at present I have no music on ipod except the 5 ghost songs.   Has anyone got any ideas how I can get rid of these?

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

You need to copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.
The iphone will sync itunes content and pics with one and only one computer at a time. If you sync to another, then it will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.
The music sync is one - way -computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
If you sync contacts and calendars to a blank computer, then they will be erased as well.
Copy everything from the old computer.

What you describe in your situation is completely different from what I'm talking about: You have iTunes on and you are syncing the iPod, and then you eject it from within iTunes. What I'm talking about is NEVER having iTunes on, and just plugging the iPod into the USB port and just recharging it, nothing else.

I have an iPod touch which no longer syncs normally. It will let me have a small proportion of my music library even though I have 2000 songs checked. Says its syncing but doesn't add the rest of my music. It lets me have my podcasts but only let's me have one movie, I appear to have only used half the capacity but if I check even one movie the capacity suddenly shoots up to full. My computer crashed back in Feb or March of this year and I just recently reinstalled itunes on it. Once reinstalled itunes updated software. Once this was all done I noticed that alot of songs on my IPod were no longer in itunes. Also, the folders in itunes no longer matched what are on my IPod. itunes says the computer is active for itunes and many songs on my IPod are on itunes but many are missing. How do I get itunes to just sync and match what is on my IPod to include all songs and folders. Many of the missing songs on my IPod and not in itunes are ones I purchased from itunes so they should have them. I am getting very discouraged with itunes. I tried to do a support call and pay the fee to have them call to address but I am stationed oversees and they would not accept my overseas number as valid.
Any help is greatly appreciated. As stated, I just want the music now on itunes to match with my IPod to include folders. Seems music got lost. Any suggestions how to back up the music so if this happens again I do not have this issue. I figured itunes would have my music or at a min just sync up what is on my IPod.

Some of the tools linked to will only work if the iPod has a valid library. Others can scan the drive independently and some may even be able to rebuild a damaged library. The manual method towards the end should be able to recover your media regardless of the state of the library.

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with syncing music to your iPod. For issues like this, I recommend resyncing the music to your iPod.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPod by unchecking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply," then checking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply" again.

Connect your phone to computer, and sync like this. Check the boxes for the playlists, artists, albums you want to sync. Then click Apply. If you have enough space on your phone, you can choose Entire music library.

Well, you could trade it in for a white one!
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

Usually, the exclamation mark tells you that the song was not where the program expected to find it. It may also mean that there was an error with the file itself.
   If you click on the exclamation mark, it may give you a reason. You can also double click the file to make it play. If the file is not found, it will tell you. Just follow the prompts to look for the song again. It will ask you if you want to look for the other missing songs in the same folder. You can do it, but unfortunately, the last few updates have made the program blind to the songs that are there and you sometimes have to do the same process for each song.
   If neither of these help, I would suggest starting from scratch and reinstalling iTunes. I have had to do that before. Do your best to back up the library and such first.
   Sometimes a computer will rename a hard disk (Windows) and all the songs on that disk will be gone to iTunes because it will think it's looking in the right place. It can't recognize that the hard disk or partition has been renamed.
I know that this is a podcast, but the principle is the same. A dialogue box should pop up to tell you just what the problem is.

You have to connect the iPod to the PC and sync it to get the songs in the device. You will only get your music in your iPod automatically if you have purchased your songs in the iTunes Store and Automatic Downloads are enabled in your iPod

I can no longer see my iPods names with the new look iTunes and also don't know where to sync it when I've added songs.

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 and later you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views
Turning on the sidebar should make things easier.

iDevices are not backup devices.
